Hey,
This is going to be a wild one, and sorta exclusive in several respects. I jumped into the Bikernet Hearse just before 5:00 in the morning yesterday and peeled out to Pasadena to hook up with Don Whalen and his cousin, Rod. We jumped in his SUV and peeled north just under 300 miles to the Quail Lodge Motorcycle Gathering and vintage auction.
We arrived right at 11:30 starving and thirsty. We wandered the bike show on the golf course greens, the displays, and the previews for the auction at 1:30. After a fine upscale buffet lunch of curried chicken thighs and legs, and a barbecued rib lunch with fresh strawberry shortcake then we hit the auction.
I brought some brass tour badges from 1948-’49 Jack Pine Gypsy races, home, and wished I had picked up a 1912 edition of Motorcycling Magazine, but I missed it. Don bought a completely restored 1953 Simplex at 3:00 for just over four grand, we loaded it and peeled out, back to Los Angeles.

I rolled up to the headquarters at just about 11:30 p.m. I poured a stiff Jack Daniels, interrupted the girls’ party and kicked back. Whatta run. One of the highlights of the day was the custom bikes being built by Falcon motorcycles based near here in LA.

Let’s hit the news.

ATK TO WORK WITH AFT–What’s Ironic is about three hours ago I was looking for his number and couldn’t find it.
I will call Jim at AFT tomorrow. I know Bikernet would like to see what Jim G can do to customize one of our new cruisers.
FYI, I heard some at H-D are going to forward your story on ATK to the Board of Directors at H-D….. They think it’s spot on for an entry level motorcycle at H-D dealerships.

ARTICLE ONE OF THE CONSTITUTION– I need to study the Constitution. I have a bitch about all the legislative bullshit constantly coming at us, but I need to study the real thing first, before I spout off about freedom in this country, or lack thereof. Here’s a brief on article one: Legislative Power.
Article One describes the Congress, the legislative branch of the federal government. The United States Congress is a bicameral body consisting of two co-equal houses: the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The article establishes the manner of election and the qualifications of members of each body. Representatives must be at least 25 years old, be a citizen of the United States for seven years, and live in the state they represent. Senators must be at least 30 years old, be a citizen for nine years, and live in the state they represent.
Article I, Section 1, reads, “All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.” This provision gives Congress more than simply the responsibility to establish the rules governing its proceedings and for the punishment of its members; it places the power of the government primarily in Congress.
Article I Section 8 enumerates the legislative powers. The powers listed and all other powers are made the exclusive responsibility of the legislative branch:
The Congress shall have power… To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof.
Article I Section 9 provides a list of eight specific limits on congressional power and Article I Section 10 limits the rights of the states.
The United States Supreme Court has interpreted the Commerce Clause and the Necessary and Proper Clause in Article One to allow Congress to enact legislation that is neither expressly listed in the enumerated power nor expressly denied in the limitations on Congress. In McCulloch v. Maryland (1819), the United States Supreme Court fell back on the strict construction of the necessary and proper clause to read that Congress had “[t]he foregoing powers and all other powers…”
THE FINE LEATHER WORKER WHO IS MOVING TO TEXAS–
Bandit/for some reason my pictures disk that I had made long ago isn’t working on this lap top. thinking it may have been damaged in the fire. Anyway’s I was looking at some of my old e-mails and found some epic’s of my work. So I put them on this, as you see very detailed work.

I can do anything on leather, no matter what it is, western, biker, portraits, just give me an idea and I can create something or if someone has a special design in mind, doesn’t matter. It is all 3D and hand dyed. Also vests are hand stitched and laced. These are just samples.
Okay, plans have changed, was expecting to be in Lubbock the 5 or 6th, but I won’t be there till the first wk. of August.

BIKERNET AIRFORCE HIRES BLIND PILOTS– Two blind pilots both are wearing dark glasses, one is using a guide dog, and the other is tapping his way along the aisle with a cane.
Nervous laughter spreads through the cabin, but the men enter the cockpit, the door closes, and the engines start up.
The passengers begin glancing nervously around, searching for some sign that this is just a little practical joke. None is forthcoming.
The plane moves faster and faster down the runway and the people sitting in the window seats realize they’re headed straight for the water at the edge of the airport. As it begins to look as though the plane will plough in to the water, panicked screams fill the cabin. At that moment, the plane lifts smoothly into the air. The passengers relax and laugh a little sheepishly, and soon all retreat into their magazines, secure in the knowledge that the plane is in good hands.
In the cockpit, one of the blind pilots turns to the other and says,”ya know, Sut, one of these days, they’re gonna scream too late and we’re all gonna die.”

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OPEN ON THE WEEKENDS– Sunday word of the day: misnomer mis-NO-muhr, noun:
1. The misnaming of a person in a legal instrument, as in a complaint or indictment.
2. Any misnaming of a person or thing; also, a wrong or inapplicable name or designation.
Morning sickness is a misnomer — it can strike any time.
— Jane Bartlett, “Sick, and tired of it”, Guardian, June 20, 2000
Copy cat is a misnomer because cats never copy anybody.
— Carl Van Vechten, The Tiger in the House
The distinction between monkeys and apes is still muddled in the popular mind: Chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans are still frequently called “monkeys,” and very good monkeys, such as Barbary “apes” and Celebes black “apes,” continue to carry their misnomers.
— Noel T. Boaz Ph.D., Eco Homo
Misnomer is from Medieval French mesnommer, “to misname,” from mes-, “wrongly” + nommer, “to name,” from Latin nominare, “to name,” from nomen, “a name.”

If you are anything like the typical hard-working Biker out there, your original plan of 2011 action has hit some bumps in the road over the past 6 months. But, are you still going in the general direction of your dreams or are you way off track? Let’s review a few key areas of your life and feel free to use these tips to get you to the finish line by year end.
Goals Should be FUN.
And, they should also be adding value to your life and to the lives of those around you. So, revisit your goals for the year. Have you made any headway? Have you accomplished a goal already? What have you done that brought you unexpected joy? If you are currently living the life of your dreams, are having tons of fun everyday, and are completely happy with the path you are on at mid-year, then go on to the next Sunday News article. We can’t help you.
On-Track with your Goals
What activities brought you great success? (However, you define success.) And, what have you done to celebrate your successes so far this year? Life is short folks. Take the time to rejoice after each accomplishment, no matter how big or how small. If you are on-track with your key goals for the year, congratulations. You are amazing and an inspiration to all of us so feel free to share your stories of success with the Bikernet News Wire.
Off-Track? Make Changes – But only if they will help you reach your goals.
What goals went really well? What have you accomplished already that was not on your original list of goals? What have you done to make sure your dreams are still within reach in the future? Consider making a “TO-STOP DOING” list that will free up time for you to concentrate on what really matters so that you can get yourself back on track. Remember, focus, focus and focus on your goals is critical to their accomplishment. Don’t allow yourself to get distracted as you enter the second half of 2011.
Nurture Your Family
Are you spending enough time with your loved ones? Laughing, dreaming, loving, sharing JDs on the porch, working on bikes together, taking vacations together? Remember, love drives action. Good relationships make it all worth it. Make sure your journey includes family and friends.
The Power of Quiet Time
Get yourself to a quiet place and take some time to think about what is coming your way in the next six months. If you already love what you do, you will find great success. If you hate what you do, make a change now. Life is too short not to be living the life you want.

DISCOVERY OF THE WEEKEND–Last week I had lunch and a ride in a brother’s new to him 2003 M5 something something, Ferrari (I’m not a car guy), then we went to lunch with little 85-year-old Chuck Vernon, the recent author of the Crocker Registry, second edition. This heavy, large format, spiral-bound 55 page masterpiece contains virtually all the Crocker information available, plus a listing of every known Crocker in the world. It is truly the bible of Crocker motorcycles manufactured from 1936 to 1942. Only 70 Crockers were ever built, plus 25 extra engines. They were basically hand-crafted v-twin hot rods and rare as hen’s teeth. Chuck calls them the real American Superbike.
Chuck gave me one of only 100 of these issues printed, but I believe you can order them. I would suggest googling Chuck Vernon or the Crocker Registry for info. If I receive an e-mail address I will add it to this. Here’s Chuck’s phone, but please be respectful: 562 943-4868 This book will be invaluable for any Crocker Stories I write in the future. It contains history, resources, tech tips, restoration advice, you name it.
Tomorrow I wrap up the 1%er book forever and it goes to print, I pray. We will also launch our first product review from Robert Stewart, and Lorenzo Lamas is supposed to turn in his first “Life and Times” story. Plus, we will be working on the next Mudflap girl feature, another bike feature, and soon I will start on a smiling topless feature from Jerry Southworth.

Oh shit, I need to pick up our Metalsport wheels for the Mudflap FXRS from Settle’s Cycles. Larry mounted the tires. And rumor has it, I might be hauling out to Spitfire later in the week to pick up our frames, swingarms, girder front ends, and then life will start cooking around the bikernet headquarters.
Paul Cavallo gave me hints on how to tear down Danny’s XS650, since we are ready to roll. So you will see a report on that effort shortly. Plus you will see a new feature from the Sturgis Museum. Hang on.
Ride Forever,
–Bandit
