SUNDAY POST SWAPMEET SUCCESS AND BIKERNET REPORTERS EMBEDDED IN HURRICANE RIDDEN FLORIDA

bree w glasses on

Watch for feature on Bree and the latest Steed Muscle Bike, next week.

This is nuts. I was up at 4:45 this dewy morning to roll up to the Long Beach Motorcycle Swapmeet by 6:00 a.m. since it doesn’t open until 7:00. Bright. I’m building a mini-chop/pocket custom for my grandson. We went on a mission to find parts for his project, Dr. Hamsters Shovelhead, which is for sale ($9,500) and for my Ultimate Chopper. Try scouring a vast Veterans Stadium bike swapmeet for three projects.

Here’s the twister. My 11 year old grandson has played organized football for four years. He’s totally into it. By decree he had to be in Whittier by 9:45 (25 miles).

So we blazed up and down rows of parts with a fist full of lists, a pocket full of cash, the kid pushing a wandering cart and I ran into pals on every corner. I’ll fill you in on the outcome at the end of this mess:

Hurrican News From Bikernet Reporter Embedded (literally)In the Coast Of Florida

September 25, 2004: One week after Ivan took out the Panhandle, three weeks after Frances soaked the state, and just over a month since Charley destroyed Punta Gorda, now comes Jeanne storming back ashore like some weird zombie weather nightmare; The Day of the Living Hurricanes. Oooh, yuck!

Over three million have been ordered to evacuate ? again, and major airports in Orlando and Tampa will also be shutting down ? again.

You may remember a couple of weeks ago. Jeanne formed right after Ivan and proceeded to rain all over the Carib, then wandered up into the Atlantic. Since then it’s reformed into a Cat 3 storm forecast to come ashore during the night and proceed up through central Florida throughout Sunday.

2:30 p.m. Just talked with Susan Barwell to get an update on the Brevard situation. Susan and Richard live on the top floor of their five-story Cocoa Beach condo, a block and a half from Ron Jon’s on the Bannana River side, and Susan says the river’s already getting whipped up in a heavy chop.

Though in a mandatory evac zone, they’re staying, and were busy shutting down the condo elevators and otherwise preparing for the next 24-hours. We’ll talk tomorrow for an update on the latest round in a season that’s already affected nearly every facet of the state.

Here on the west coast, we’re expecting high winds and heavy rain in the early morning hours and throughout the day on Sunday. Since the last couple of blows pretty much caught the power company unprepared in terms of tree trimming, the action’s been heavy getting limbs and branches away from overhead lines, so perhaps we won’t lose power this time.

Was Von Dutch Really A Nazi?

The answer was featured on Television last night. “Saturday night 10:00 p.m. on channel 11 there was an interview about Von Dutch and me,” Cindy said.

We missed it. Did anyone see it?

Hope someone watched.

Rogue Embedded In Daytona

The check you sent arrived today. Good timing. Just in time to buy supplies for the next Hurricane Party.

These Hurricanes are starting to be a pain. I am sure I can find a lot of other reasons to party.

I will stay in touch as best I can.

David Mann Tribute Sites

Ron Segal from Segal Fine Art is putting together two separate tribute sites for David Mann and Indian Larry.

We are interested in obtaining some quotes from known people in the industry, friends and associates

Would it be possible to get a written “tribute” line or two from you for David’s Tribute?

Also, any unseen, candid photos of you two would be an excellent addition and much appreciated.

The key here is that all quotes and photos have never been published elsewhere.

We would be very grateful for your help. Each site will have donation buttons with proceeds going DIRECTLY to the families.

– The Draft will Start in June 2005 —

There is pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills: S 89 >and HR 163) which will time the program’s initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005 — just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public’s attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately.

$28 million has been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (SSS) budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. Selective Service must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation. Please see website: www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html to view the sss annual performance plan – fiscal year 2004.

Old shot from Bob T.

THAT’S IT–So I dropped the kid off in the nick-of-time and peeled back to the headquarters to launch the Sunday Post. I found a primo Sportster tank for the kid and picked up a Peashooter single H-D motor to begin my first ground up restoration. I negotiated this deal with old friend, Mil Blair, for several months.

I went primarily to buy a mini-chop chassis and front end. My connection was in attendance, but without product. Get this. He had a booth full of parts, used Briggs and Stratton engines, other lawn mower engines, bent and busted doodle bug frames. As he described each product I soon discovered that his wares were all garbage. All the engines were worn out and you can buy a brand new engine for less that $300. I’ll hit him again at home.

So let’s quit this shit and go for a ride. There’s a party on the other side of town at the Harbor Kick Boxing dojo and I’ve been called to attend. Better move.

Ride Forever,
