Hey, I know I’m running late, and I could bury you with excuses, but fuck it, let’s roll. I would have kicked this off with another weekend’s work on the Sturgis Shovelhead, but Thursday, after returning from the dealer show in Indy, I came down with the airplane mung. It hit me like a sledgehammer and I fell, half-dead, into the sack. I dodged all the Asian flus, California colds, all winter long, but you know how that goes. It’s just a roll of the dice, before the shit takes you down. I spent two solid days in the sack feeling like the mummy from the rank lagoon.
But that was all the weepy bullshit I was allowed. Today the show had to go on. You know the code, besides we missed the Post last weekend. Hope this will make up for it.
I’m also cleaning up two Shovelhead techs, which we will post as soon and the Sunday Paper is complete. Enjoy:

The Most Incredible Engine In Indy
For several years the quest for more power from the classic 45-degree V-Twin motorcycle engine has been accomplished with the use of Big Bore and Stroker Kits, pushing the limits well beyond what is considered to be practical for street use.
Wayne R & D, Inc., is proud to announce the release of its Peregrine Engines product line.
The radically new, V4 Engine, is designed to satisfy the ever-increasing demand for more power by adding more cylinders, rather than increasing bore and stroke to the extreme. By utilizing the vast array of Twin-Cam Style engine components available on the market today, we can offer endless combinations, increasing torque and horsepower, not to mention a look that will surely turn heads! An internal drive system that allows for an optional drive ratio of 1:1.19 (overdrive) provides for lower cruising RPM and higher top speed.
Intended for use in custom street bikes and trikes, our three base models to choose from, are the Falcon-176, Falcon-190, and Falcon-206, ranging in horsepower ratings of 125-hp to well over 200-hp. For those who desire still more power for racing or other demanding applications, engines can be built with off the shelf Big-Bore and Stroker Kits, to obtain an insane 300-hp or higher.
Whatever your application, all Peregrine Engines will be made to order, custom built to your specifications.

Cha-ching: 5 businesses get OK to take part in Bike Week
DAYTONA BEACH — Peter Scianablo pleaded successfully with the City Commission to let him cash in on Bike Week at his Tombstone Silverworks business on Main Street ? or else.
“I’m going to put it all for sale if I can’t get some cooperation tonight from the city of Daytona Beach,” he told commissioners late Wednesday night.
The stakes were high for six businesses left out of plans two weeks ago for outside activities on 48 properties during Bike Week in March, including parking, retail sales, entertainment, food and beverages.
Business owners want to get in on the estimated $260 million economic boost Bike Week brings. Commissioners hope to use the lure of profits to shape policy to promote improvements along business corridors.
Scianablo’s sin was failing to keep his Main Street store open between biker events. A sign on the store urges patrons to visit his “year-round” location on Beach Street. Another sign says the Main Street site is for sale.
He’s spent $1.2 million to buy and renovate the Beach Street site, but $600,000 in hurricane damage to various properties is preventing him from constructing a building on Main Street. Property taxes have nearly tripled to about $71,000 in five years.
Some commissioners said they’ve heard the same song before. Scianablo’s promise to build a new building on Main Street dates back to before the hurricanes.
But sympathy for hurricane damage won Scianablo a 4-3 approval to waive a rule requiring businesses to stay open a minimum of 250 days a year to participate in the outdoor biker carnivals of Bike Week and Biketoberfest.
Commissioners made similar exceptions, also on split votes, for:
*Main Street Station, where plans for a new building have been delayed.
*Daytona Aqua Toyz, which delayed opening while making improvements to comply with city codes.
*Carl Marion Rentals, where access to Bethune Boulevard will be improved for parking.
*The Wreck Riverfront Bar and Grill, where a plan for employee and vendor parking was approved.
Only Eric Doyle, owner of Palm Court Apartments on Harvey Avenue, left empty-handed. His plan for paid motorcycle parking got no support because his apartments are a block outside the zone where the Bike Week festivities are permitted. Bikers cruise by looking for parking, he said.
“I recently spent $60,000 to beautify the area and build a legal parking lot with water retention and landscaping,” he said.

Boot Hill Saloon to add 2nd location in Ormond Beach
DAYTONA BEACH — Boot Hill Saloon, the world-famous biker destination on Main Street, is expanding to a second location in Ormond Beach.
Thomas Blawn said he sold his Jackson Hole Saloon biker venue at 1081 N. U.S. 1 in Ormond Beach to the Boot Hill Saloon. The deal closed on Monday, he said.
?My family?s getting older,? he said. ?It?s not an easy business. Bike Week and Biketoberfest are long hours.?
Blawn declined to reveal details of the sale that included the business, a restaurant and nearly three acres of property with a stage and large party area for bikers and vendors. The property was appraised by the Volusia County Property Appraiser?s office at about $200,000 for tax purposes.
He approached Boot Hill Saloon owner Karin Gerhis after learning of her interest in expanding.
?I think everyone has a lot more interest in U.S. 1 because of Harley-Davidson moving out here,? Blawn said of Harley-Davidson?s plans to open a new biker destination off Interstate 95. ?I?ve had numerous inquiries about selling the business, but I was looking for an operator I could trust.?
Dean Cormier, manager of the Boot Hill Saloon at 310 Main St., said the company plans to continue operating at its existing location and open a new business to be called the Boot Hill Bar and Grill to replace the Jackson Hole Saloon.
While the original Boot Hill is across the street from a cemetery, the second location will be across the street from a mobile home park, county records show.

Daytona Action For HOT BIKE
I forwarded two mails from James at Raw Power. He and his wife are friends of mine. He builds some nice stuff. I’ve shot a few of his past builds for V-twin(metric bikes). Would you care to shoot either of the bikes for any of your publications. I’m attaching some pics I took of his wife, Danielle. She’s interested in modeling, particularly with James’ bikes. Interested in putting her with on one of these two builds in a bathing suit?
–Don

Sure, we’re gearing up for shooting bikes from all over the east in Daytona this year. And, of course, Mrs. Raw Power is invited to come along. –Bandit
Third annual Gotham Motorcycle Classic
April 16 and 17, 2005 on the decks and docks of the Intrepid aircraft carrier in New York City.
Last year there were over 13,000 people and 120 custom and classic motorcycle at the Gotham Motorcycle Classic, and even more are expected this year.
Sponsored by American Iron Magazine and RoadBike magazine, this is one of the country’s biggest and best all-brands motorcycle weekend.
Motorcycle-related vendors, show bikes and celebrities. Last year hosted Roger Bourget, Indian Larry Legacy team, Dee Snider, Eddie Trotta, Doug Keim and others. Many of them are planning on attending again this year plus others. Meet Buzz Kanter and Chris Maida of American Iron Magazine and Jessica Procup of RoadBike.
There is a class for all motorcycles, ranging from original classic Harleys and Indians to American or metric choppers, bobbers and racers. Some of the show winners will be photographed and featured in American Iron Magazine and/or RoadBike.
All show bikes must be pre-registered as most classes fill up before the show opens. Visit http://www.GothamMC.com for information and forms.

I MADE IT–I’m not feeling too bad, would even like to wander around in the sun before tomorrow’s Seattle rains set in. It’s bullshit, this weather, but we’ll survive, damnit. The folks in Seattle put up with this shit constantly.
In the next hour I’ll post a couple of chapters on the Sturgis Shovel Project. If I’m still standing I post a biker’s rights news from Bill Bish.
I’ll throw out a couple of items I’m working into my July editorial for HOT BIKE. First I met with a sharp guy, Ken Ciocci, from Spectro Oils, and he fixed me up with some info Bikernet readers requested recently. Oil always gets thinner as it warms, that’s the code. Here’s the clincher. The W in 20W50 doesn’t stand for weight. It stands for winter. The 20 is the minimum weight it will run at 240 degrees and the 50 is the maximum at 0 degrees.
Finally I turned on the tube the other day and it was hooked on CMT–Country Music Television, and I watch Julie Roberts sing her Breakdown song. It’s killer, and meant for bikers. Watch or listen for it.
Let’s hit the road.
