MOM’S SUNDAY POST–IT’S A MIX OF THIS AND THAT FOR MOM

don rogers chop
Shot from Don Rogers. We’re looking for custom Pans, Knucks and Shovels for Street Chopper mag.

Hey, it’s mom’s day so take care of business, even if it’s a long distance phone call. I’m in a daze. All the gang from Primedia came over yesterday and we barbequed and drank shots of Compadre Teguila, the smoothest Agave juice I’ve ever had. When we ran out I grabbed a bottle of Quervo Gold and Greg Friend, Street Chopper editor, cringed. He wouldn’t have anything to do with it.

We finished it anyway then watched Greg find a ground to his rear fender. No taillights at all until he reground the tail section. I threatened to weld the fender rails to the frame and he split.

Agent Zebra pulled his new Glock 45, Toph, Birdie, Eric Ellis and his wife Erin ducked. Steve Bohn, the articulate editor of Hot Rod Bikes, soon to be relaunched as the Primedia tech bible, as Bike Works threw beer bottles. Steve’s wife, Gale, the agent’s wife, Sonya, and John Gilbert from Hot Rod Bikes grappled with loose attack dogs and Sin Wu’s Macaw screeched.

It was a wild afternoon. Let’s hit the news:

Club Action Nears Laconia

LACONIA ? Police are keeping a close eye on rival motorcycle clubs after a shooting at a tattoo parlor in Portland, Maine, last week.

Laconia Police Sgt. Steven Clarke said a national ride-in of Outlaws in Portland is set for the same time as Laconia’s Bike Week, June 11-19, and the two cities are less than two hours apart. The New Hampshire Hells Angels are based in Weirs Beach and have a clubhouse there.

“We have to pay attention to this,” Clarke said. Police will also be watching a Hells Angels ride-in May 7 in Laconia. New Hampshire officials said they have no information to lead them to be concerned there could be a conflict between the clubs, but will monitor the situation.

A 58-year-old member of the Vietnam Vets Northeast motorcycle club, which is affiliated with the Maine Hells Angels, was shot and wounded April 19. Witnesses told police several men wearing Outlaws “colors” or insignia entered the Portland Tattoo Shop downtown on Forest Avenue about 1 p.m., fired and fled.

Dennis Towne of Denmark, Maine, suffered an injury to the groin. Police are investigating.

At the recommendation of the Portland police chief, city officials have canceled a June 16 concert by country singer David Allen Coe at the Portland Expo because the event was expected to draw bikers, particularly members of the Outlaws.

State Police Trooper Richard Spaulding said the Hells Angels look at New Hampshire and Maine as their home turf. Bike Week is traditionally a Hells Angels event, he said, in much the same way that a rally at Daytona, Fla., each spring is considered an Outlaws event. *** Spaulding and Clarke said the Outlaws have not yet appeared in the downtown Weirs Beach area, the center of the rally, during Bike Week.

Check Out Voodoo-Customs

If you check out voodoo-customs.com under the projects link page 3, second row is a Shovelhead they built. I spoke with Noah the owner a few weeks ago and he was OK we me shooting some bikes they have but the were newer engines. This was before I knew your were looking for older bikes. There is also an orange Shovel caption says was for a calendar that may already be a complete shoot on page 4 of the choppers link.

I am trying to get time to go back over there and get a few images of a new one he just built, I think there some images of it on the project link page 1. I would have attached a couple images but they are protected. I could be wrong but I do not believe any of there bikes have been in magazines. RFR (512) 426-9302

‘Whore College’ offers Hands-on Training

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The 25 students in jeans and T-shirts could have been in any career that requires hustle. The classes, covering topics such as effective marketing, stress reduction and legal issues, could have been part of any professional development seminar.

But this was “Whore College,” and any illusion it was just another corporate how-to for young go-getters abruptly ended at the sex toy display and was stripped away for good during a graphic demonstration that put a whole new twist on the concept of hands-on training.

“We are still illegal,” instructor Kimberlee Cline said before her 20-minute demonstration. “If we want to be treated as business professionals, we need to act ethically within the industry.”

Presented in conjunction with the San Francisco Sex Worker Film and Arts Festival, the class Wednesday at an erotic art gallery was billed as away for working girls and guys to polish their skills in a supportive atmosphere.

It was the first time the biennial festival, begun in 1999 to showcase films about and by sex workers, included a session devoted to how to maintain a satisfying career.

Although famously permissive San Francisco has long been a hotbed for prostitutes’ rights activism, the school reflects the movement’s maturation away from a focus on decriminalization toward a broader agenda that includes occupational health and safety and community-building, said organizer Carol Leigh.

Other cities, including Tucson, Ariz., Portland, Ore., Montreal and Taipei, Taiwan, have similar events, said Leigh, a veteran activist who takes credit for coining the term “sex worker” as an anti-euphemism.

Another Desert Project Bike

Well I got a start on another bike, the Sporster tank and fender were brand new still in the box, two aluniunm wheels 16″ and 19″ off a old flat tracker which I will put in new spokes, FXRP front end, trans, and a bunch of miscellaneous parts all free. Not counting all the parts I already have.

Just need to score a frame, rear brake and Motor. I am going to see how cheap I can build this bike with just parts that I find. I really don`t care how long it takes. Should be interesting, my son Johnathan wants to call it the JUNK YARD DOG.

Sturgis Events Coming Together

Regarding Sturgis, we’ll send you a schedule of the events we discussed as well as others we’re involved. The 2 key ones for Keith would be the builder/sponsor ride on Tuesday and the Hawaiian Tropic on THursday at 6.

For the Roadhouse, we’ll need:
-Hot Bike signage. Ideally flags or stand-alone signage to make you more recognizable.
-Giveways. We regularly have the gals on stage tossing sponsor goodies. Everything from tees to coozies.
-Prizes. We host contests on stage throughout the day. Would be great to have some prizes from Hot Bike. Maybe subscriptions and any of the limited more higher priced stuff…this can be hats, tees, jackets, shirts, etc.
-Hot Bike – Hard Rock builder signs. An idea that would be great is for any covers or articles youv’e done on any of the Hard Rock builders to blow up and present them to the buider and he can put at his display.
-Cross-promotion. Plan to send me some bulleted items for our emcee to promote your location at full throttle…hot bike row, concerts, etc.
-Speaking. Please let me know if Branscombe or if the tech seminars are coming together and want to use the stage. Certainly we think it would be great!

New VD Discovered

A woman walks into her doctor’s office, scared of the strange development recently to the inside of her thighs… a green spot on the inside of each.

They won’t wash off, they won’t scrape off, and they seem to be getting worse. The doctor assures her he’ll get to the bottom of this, and that she needn’t worry until tests come back.

He sends her home. A few days later, the woman’s phone rings. Much to her relief, it’s the doctor. She immediately begs to know what’s going on with these spots.

“You’re perfectly healthy–there’s no problem. But I’m wondering: is your husband a Harley guy?” the doctor asks.

“Yes–how did you know?”

“Tell him his earrings aren’t real gold.”

Swift Announces Plans to Double Production in 2005

Swift Motorcycle has announced the appointment of Arlene Helt as General Manager. Arlene’s duties will include overseeing continued improvements in production and quality and expanding the company’s dealer network.

In 2005, Swift Motorcycle is looking to expand its operations and double production from its present output of 40 bikes a month. In the relatively short time since the company was established by Jerry Moyes, President of Swift Transportation, it has been involved in the acquisition of the manufacturing rights to Excelsior-Henderson. While that side of the business develops, Swift continues to offer an expanding range.

The new ‘Icon’ chopper is due to enter production shortly. The bike uses Swift’s own 2in single downtube frame with a 40-degree neck rake and adjustable monoshock suspension. The front end has inverted forks with a dual disc set-up, the rear tire is a 280-series, and wheels may be selected from a range of styles.

The Icon is powered by a 117ci S&S motor, with the option of upgrading to a 124ci unit. Drive is through a hydraulically operated clutch and a Baker right-side drive transmission.

Germany Approves S&S Motor

S&S Cycle has announced that its popular high-performance 124ci engine unit has now gained T?V approval. This certification system is used in Germany to establish standards of safety and quality.

The S&S engine had to achieve stringent levels of emissions and noise outputs to gain certification.

As the 124ci engine now conforms to this standard, it can be used in new or existing builds for road use in Germany and in other European countries, where T?V certification is increasingly recognized.

Following this success, S&S expects to submit other engines from its range for testing in the near future.

A Horse, A Chicken & A Harley

On the farm lived a chicken and a horse, both of whom loved to play together.

One day the two were playing, when the horse fell into a bog and began to sink. Scared for his life, the horse whinnied for the chicken to go get the farmer for help!

Off the chicken ran, back to the farm.

Arriving at the farm, he searched and searched for the farmer, but to no avail, for he had gone to town with the only tractor.

Running around, the chicken spied the farmer’s new Harley.

Finding the keys in the ignition, the chicken sped off with a length of rope, hoping he still had time to save his friend’s life.

Back at the bog, the horse was surprised, but happy, to see the chicken arrive on the shiny Harley, and he managed to get a hold of the loop of rope the chicken tossed to him.

After tying the other end to the rear bumper of the farmer’s bike, the chicken then drove slowly forward and, with the aid of the powerful bike, rescued the horse!

Happy and proud, the chicken rode the Harley back to the farmhouse, and the farmer was none the wiser when he returned. The friendship between the two animals was cemented: Best Buddies, Best Pals.

A few weeks later, the chicken fell into a mud pit, and soon, he too, began to sink and cried out to the horse to save his life!

The horse thought a moment, walked over, and straddled the large puddle.

Looking underneath, he told the chicken to grab his hangy-down thing and he would then lift him out of the pit.

The chicken got a good grip, and the horse pulled him up and out, saving his life.

The moral of the story? (yep, there’s a moral!)

“When You’re Hung Like A Horse, You Don’t Need A Harley To Pick Up Chicks!”

Christy Hemme Rides from Playboy To The Motorcycle Press

Christy Hemme is taking the world by storm. Not only is she one of the beautiful Divas of World Wrestling Entertainment, but she will grace the cover of the upcoming April 2005 Playboy Magazine, to be released on March 10th. Since winning the WWE Diva Search Contest, Hemme has become one of the most popular Divas on Raw. She has appeared in numerous magazines such as Rolling Stone, Maxim, Stuff, Muscle and has also modeled for Muscle & Fitness. Her dancing talent also landed her a role as a “Juggy Dancer” on Comedy Central’s “The Man Show,” while it was on the air.

Hemme was born and raised in Temecula, CA. Growing up with a brother and a sister in her family, she spent her childhood riding motorcycles and dirt bikes, snowboarding, wakeboarding and jet skiing. As a child, her father taught her to be strong, ambitious and independent. Hemme graduated from Temecula Valley High in 1998 at age 17. As a teen, Hemme says she was “a real dork”, she rarely dated and was often teased by fellow classmates. Although she was quiet and reserved, Hemme still felt as though she was a strong, confident person, as her father predicted. Following her father’s advice, Hemme moved to Los Angeles at age 18, and was confident and driven to succeed. She knew her path would lead to an entertainment career. After being in LA for six months, she got the opportunity to attend the Sturgis South Dakota with a group of girls to sell pictures and participate in pudding wrestling. Striving for success, Hemme decided to form a dance team with the girls, and they called themselves the “Purrfect Angel”. After winning the Diva Search Contest, Hemme has won almost every contest she?s competed in and resembles a hero among her fellow Divas. She is the fourth WWE Diva to be featured on the cover of Playboy Magazine and is extremely excited about the issue’s March 10th release date.

Although her mother passed away two years ago, Hemme still has her family’s support. She is thankful for her career and where it is heading. Hemme currently resides in Los Angeles but she still calls Temecula her home. She loves motorcycles and enjoys extreme sports. She owns a 100th Anniversary Edition Harley-Davidson.

IT’S A MOTHER’S DAY WRAP–Let’s ride over to see mom. If you’re a registered Bikernet reader, you may have received a questionair regarding our HOT BIKE covers. If you do, I hope you don’t mind us using that e-mail list to find out how you feel about upcoming covers. There’s no sales effort attached. We’re just looking for your response.

There is half-a-chance that cooperate officers killed the effort, but we’ll see next week.

That’s it for me. I’m still trying to dodge this hangover and Mom called this morning. She wants me to ride over. She has a list of projects, like trim the tree, fix this and that. I’m hoping to ride the Panhead into Long Beach just for the kicks.

One final comment. Layla has three kids and she’s a helluva mom to them and the entire Bikernet clan, including my sorry ass. She deserves tremendous recognition and love. “Love you, baby.”

Ride forever,

–Bandit
