Hey, It?s almost midnight on Sunday PST and I?m rattling this bullshit Sunday Post. It?s not actually bullshit. I spent the entire day representating Bikernet at the World Class LA Calendar Bike Show at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. The show was sponsored by Performance Machine and Bikernet.com. PM gave a bike builders a check for $5,000. Jim Gianatsis, the show promoter, gave another check to Larry Nagel for the Best of Show Dream Craft bike.
This show draws bikes and builders from as far away as Hawaii, Phoenix, Oregon, Washington and Florida. It?s a world class event in a park on the Long Beach coastline. It?s incredible. So I was there all day, judging the bike show, picking girls for the Girls of Bikernet.com, and wondering if the Sturgis Shovel would start.
I?ll tell you more about the bike project in a minute, but here?s two announcements. I?ll fill in more tomorrow after I get some sleep.

Dr. Jeffrey Runge to Leave NHTSA The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) has announced Dr. Jeffrey Runge will be leaving the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to take a position as Chief Medical Officer for the Department of Homeland Security where he will coordinate the department?s response to biological and other catastrophic attacks. Dr. Runge has served as NHTSA Administrator for the past four years.
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) is hopeful Dr. Runge?s replacement will offer a broader based and common sense approach to motorcycle safety issues. “The Bush Administration will select Dr. Runge?s replacement,” said Jeff Hennie, MRF Vice-President of Government Relations. “As of today the timeline and who that will be is unclear. The MRF will be monitoring this closely.”
From Rogue
This is very good news for motorcycle people. Dr. Jeffrey Runge?s attitude about motorcycle people has been less than desirable to say the least. Hopefully his replacement will me a more logical person.

Rogue I am sorry to be sending such an impersonal email at such a personal time, but I am trying to let as many people as possible know about the tragedy that the motorcycle community suffered this weekend with the untimely passing of Christian Neuhauser, Publisher of RoadRUNNER Magazine. I do not know any more details than what is contained in this news report at this time, but I ask for all of your prayers for his family and loved ones. Respectfully, –Eric Bass SOLVANG, Calif. (July 17) – Actress Sandra Bullock, star of “Miss Congeniality,” has married reality TV star Jesse James at a ranch in the California wine country near Santa Barbara, according to reports. Bullock, 40, and James, 35, exchanged vows in a sunset ceremony Saturday in front of several hundred guests at the Folded Hills Ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley. It was the first marriage for Bullock. She was previously engaged to actor Tate Donovan and romantically linked to actor Matthew McConaughey. James has been married twice before, most recently to adult-film star Janine Lindemulder. He has three children. According to the Web site for PEOPLE, the pair arrived in a red monster truck with James driving. The guests were shuttled to the ranch from area hotels and weren’t told they were there for a wedding until shortly before the ceremony took place. Guests included actor William Shatner, actresses Jamie Lee Curtis and Regina King, and Metallica lead singer James Hetfield, according to “Entertainment Tonight” and Us Weekly magazine. Many in Hollywood have been surprised at the pairing of the tattooed bad boy James and the on-screen good girl Bullock. They met in 2003. For wedding bands, Bullock wore a vintage ring by Neil Lane. James wore a ring made by Bullock herself out of steel. A spokeswoman for Bullock was not immediately available for comment Sunday. Bullock, who typically plays a good girl in her film roles, met the tattooed James, who is also a motorcycle mechanic, in 2003.

Think Street Chopper would be interested in any of these bikes?

The Legend Top Fifty Custom Bike Show is the latest event to become an affiliate of AMD’s official World Championship of Custom Bike Building.
Devised and hosted by Legend Air Suspension and Lowlife/Hardlife chassis engineer Jesse Jurrens at his Rapid City, Dakota facility during the Sturgis Rally and Races, the event made its debut last year to considerable acclaim.
“The idea was to create an event that showcased builds using our own products, especially our frame designs. But if it has succeeded for us on that level, in fact the event immediately became one of the principal showcases during Sturgis for the work of builders from all around America and beyond”, Jesse told AMD.
The list of entrants for this year’s show on Wednesday August 10th is already impressive and, as with last year, is set to burst through the fifty bike mark by some distance.
As with all World Championship affiliate events, the winner will be invited to enter the World Championship at the Big Twin West Dealer Show in Las Vegas on November 18th to 20th this year.

THERE I WAS–I?m not kidding. Nothing on that bike was going correctly until Roger from Kustom FAB and Nui flew in from Hawaii with their bikes. They uncrated them in the middle of our Wilmington Ghetto. Then we spent the night starting and shutting down the Sturgis chop. First I discovered earlier in the day that I didn?t have the correct Compu-Fire ignition.

Here?s the deal. Most electronic ignitions demand that the starter system shove the engine over three times before it ignites the ignition. That won?t work with a kicker system. I had to unwire and rewire in a single-fire Compu-Fire kicker system. I drove forty miles and met a CF engineer in a gas station. I handed him a signed copy of Orwell and he handed me the correct ignition.

So it fired by didn?t run worth a damn. That?s when Roger and Nui yanked off the carb and we tried, unsuccessfully, to install rubber band manifold seals. We didn?t have the straps long enough to make them work. The heads didn?t fit the Rivera Intake manifold, but we installed the massive O-rings and one side was cool, the other had a gap. We filled it with silicone and let it set, as we cruised to Joe?s Garage in Tustin for a private party.
When we returned, we installed the stainless straps and hit it again. Keep in mind this is a kicker system only. It fired again, but still ran lean. Roger yanked the carb again and we fought until the float bowl was removed. We installed a larger one and it ran like a top.
Then I rode it around the block and shorted the battery against the frame. I pushed it home. We fixed it and I rode it around the block again. It was much improved, but still needed a cross threaded oil line repaired. I slipped off the seat, like oil on the fender for a passenger. The front fender wasn?t going to work. We removed it to haul ass the next morning to the show. I felt tentatively, that I was ready to rock.
Ride Forever,
