Hey,

This is going to be a strange news. We’ve received some killer antique motorcycle memorabilia from Bob T. and with Paul Garson’s help we’ve come up with some killer historic articles for the Cantina.

Oldd ridergirl

I always wanted the Cantina to house dazzling material that you can’t find anywhere, in any book or magazine. We’re getting there with the help of Bob, Paul and Bikernet Readers all over the world.

I’m now scrambling to build my two bikes for Sturgis and Bonneville, but while frames and sheet metal are out to paint, I’ve spent late nights launching chapters of the second chance book. Jaqhama in Australia has volunteered to assist with editing the first Chance book. Appreciate his help. If I’m real lucky I’ll get that one published this year.

Okay, let’s hit the news. It’s going to be packed with girls and antique bike shit you may never see anywhere else. And thanks roll out to Russell Roberts for the girl shots.

WORLD’S FASTEST INDIAN SPOT REVIEW–We just watched it the other night on dvd. Great flick — only complaint is that the Bonneville extras overacted. New Zealand scenes are terrific, and you really feel like you’re along for the ride. Sound effects? Crank it up!

THE HUNT FOR A PRODUCTION CHROME SHOP– Thanks for jumping on this. I’d suggested Southern Plating but that and Brown’s are about all I know. I think Billy Lane uses a shop in Melbourne but that would only be for his one-offs, not this kind of step and repeat production.

Techmount manufactures at their own facility in Oakland, FL, which is just west of Orlando. This is the mount HD riders would use; available in bar sizes from 7/8″ thru 1 1/2″.

MOTORCYCLISTS KILLED IN RUSH-HOUR LIGHTNING STRIKE– WESTMINSTER, Colorado (AP) — A motorcyclist died after he was struck by lightning while riding in rush hour traffic between Denver and Boulder, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing a flash of light shortly before the motorcyclist struck the center divider on U.S. 36 Wednesday, police spokesman Tim Read said.

Gary Missi, 46, of Longmont was pronounced dead at the scene.

A coroner’s investigation was under way to determine whether the lightning bolt, the collision or something else caused his death, Read said.

The lightning blasted a 4-inch-deep hole in the highway and sent chunks of asphalt hurtling across the highway.

rolling sixes

ROLLIN SIXES COMES TO THE CANTINA– You see all my builds are done in my garage old school I know, but that’s how I do the bikes. Jerry takes care of the parts and I do the builds and paint. I paint the bikes at my Buddy’s booth lucky me. I have friends who help me out but that is what it’s all about.

I’m satisfied making a living doing something I love and have always had a passion for, it’s not about the money for me. To bad I cant say the same for the rest of the industry. We’ve lost some great builders in the past few years. I attached both logos we have been using.

ILLINOIS JUDGE PROTECTS MOTORCYCLE TRAINING FUNDS– SPRINGFIELD-A judge dealt a blow Wednesday to an attempt to limit the state’s ability to use special-purpose funds to pay its bills.

Sangamon County Circuit Court Judge Leo Zappa extended an order that prevents the government from transferring about $344,000 out of two motorcycle safety funds.

But, he ruled that the group ABATE cannot represent other groups in order to prevent over $34 million from other special interest funds from being transferred into the state’s general fund.

ABATE, which stands for A Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education, is challenging the transfer of money from its funds established for training programs. The judge set a July 10 hearing date for ABATE of Illinois Inc.’s case.

The comptroller and treasurer plan to go ahead with taking the steps to transfer the money not protected by Zappa’s order.

”We’re going to make the transfers,” said Martin Noven, deputy treasurer. ”But we don’t think they’re legal.”

Over $62 million already has been transferred as a way to keep the state operating. In all, the governor’s budget plan calls for $97 million to be transferred out of the special funds and into the state’s main checking account.

Noven said Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka’s office notified groups last week that their special purpose funds were being swept. ABATE responded by going to court in an attempt to protect its money.

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL-I’ve got to jump away from the computer and rock ‘n’ roll on the 45 Bonne Belle. I want to complete it as a roller, because next week the 120-inch Panhead Sportbike should start to fly together for the ride to Sturgis. I’m getting edgy. I’ve burned too much daylight. Plus we could use a few more sponsors to support our efforts. Cash is short. I have to pick through the change jar to buy fasteners.

Next week will be wild. I have another terrific Paul Garson/Bob T., H-D history piece for the Cantina, more chapters of the World Run, a report on the ROT Texas Event, Larry Curik’s bike feature, a Von Dutch feature, a feature on Big Dog’s 20,000th bike, a Capn Bill Ride saga, a bike feature from R&S Customs, and later today I’ll post a Chop N Grind update.

That’s all you’re gonna get out of me. It’s margarita time, now. Maybe that’s my problem. Fewer margaritas, more work. Fewer girls, more work. I say it’s a balance. We’ll see. As a brother once told me, “Time will tell and shit will smell.”

Ride Forever,
