Hey,
We survived the Bubs Bonneville meet. History was made. The Easyriders Streamliner effort stood tall at 321 mph for 16 years and was broken twice, almost three times this week. First a dual Hyabusa powered streamliner, the Ack Attack, set a new average of 342, then Bub’s, pure American Streamliner, blew the doors off that record with an average run over 350 mph, with Chris Carr at the handelbars. Later in the week Sam Wheeler’s dual Kawasaki slipped along the salt at over 355 with a flat tire. Unfortunately they couldn’t make the return pass.
Tires are rare for Streamliners, because the manufacturers are afraid to make them. Yet, to this date no one has died or been seriously injured on the salt. I’m going to lean on Avon to step up to the plate.

The salt is similar to going to the moon. It’s a beautiful 64 square miles of pure white for as far as you can see. Unbelievable. On our first pass with the Salt Shaker, with Valerie Thompson at the bars, the bike slipped through the 1-mile trap at over 140 mph. I was like a kid with a straight-A report card, under the tent, at the starting line, jumping up and down. I was later told that due to the elevation, vehicles run 20 percent slower on the salt than at sea level. That made that a 168 mph pass. Let’s hit the news and I’ll spill more of my rattled brain cells in the summary:

BIKERNET PARENTING ADVICE– An old country preacher had a teenage son, and it was getting time the boy should give some thought to choosing a profession. Like many young men, the boy didn’t really know what he wanted to do, and he didn’t seem too concerned about it. One day, while the boy was away at school, his father decided to try an experiment. He went into the boy’s room and placed on his study table three objects: a Bible, a silver dollar, and a bottle of whiskey.
“I’ll just hide behind the door,” the old preacher said to himself, “and when he comes home from school this afternoon, I’ll see which object he picks up.
If it’s the Bible, he’s going to be a preacher like me, and what a blessing that would be! If he picks up the dollar, he’s going to be a businessman, and that would be okay, too. But if he picks up the bottle, he’s going to be a no-good drunkard, and, Lord, what a shame that would be.”
The old man waited anxiously, and soon heard his son’s footsteps as he entered the house whistling and headed for his room. He tossed his books on the bed and as he turned to leave the room he spotted the objects on the table. With curiosity in his eye, he walked over to inspect them.
Finally, he picked up the Bible and placed it under his arm. He picked up the silver dollar and dropped it into his pocket. He uncorked the bottle and took a big drink.
“Lord have mercy,” the old man whispered, “he’s gonna be a Congressman

SALT SHAKER RIDER REPORT– Thank you! Nice to be on board. 200 mph club is my goal….yeah! Do you have a banner I could put in my sponsor page. If you need anything…I would like to help in anyway. Here is the information to the gage guy…Mark @ Custom Rod Gauges, 160 M Street, Fresno, CA 559-277-3560.

THREE ARKANSAS SURGEONS WERE PLAYING GOLF– One of them said, “I’m the best surgeon in Arkansas. In my favorite case, a concert pianist lost seven fingers in an accident, I reattached them, and 8 months later he performed a private concert for the Queen of England .”
The second surgeon said. “That’s nothing. A young man lost an arm and both legs in an accident, I reattached them, and 2 years later he won a gold medal in track and field events in the Olympics.”
The third surgeon said, “You guys are amateurs. Several years ago a woman was high on cocaine and marijuana and she rode a horse head-on into a train traveling 80 miles an hour.
All I had left to work with was the woman’s blonde hair and the horse’s ass. I was able to put them together and now she’s a Senator from New York .”

SALT SHAKER CHASSIS DESIGNER SPEAKS UP– Glad you had a good time, and I am very relieved that the bike worked well and nobody got hurt, You did really good, and I hope that you have the time now to enjoy your bike.
CCI stopped the V-kit bike, and sold just the rolling chassis, and now I heard that they are going to stop that and are not even going to offer the frame/swing arm for sale . It’s sad that the project is no longer, because I believe that bikes of this type will become very popular. I am going to continue building sports bikes, personally (for myself), and I am getting quite excited with my next generation V’s.
If you could write a little note about what you did, and your opinion of their bike, and send it to the workers at CCI, I would appreciate it. DL-GMG-Everyone@globalmotorsport.com>

RAY WHEELER HITS THE SALT– Quite the week. Already planning my return trip, with a Bonneville type bike. Having been in a war, sky dived, drag raced since the ’60s. Thought I had seen it all–not even close.
Hope your return home was uneventful. As I departed the nugget at 6 a.m. or so, a bit nippy out, my first gas stop I discovered an oil leak that appeared to be coming from the transmission breather. Cleaned the swingarm and bags with brake cleaner. Still leaking at the next gas stop. What the ?????? Five minutes into Reno and I am beside the freeway. Thought I lost all primary fluids…. wrong, Sheared the transmission hub splines. Called Steve at Shoeman’s custom cycle (775) 348-9339. A very short period of time later and a truck and trailer arrived. About 5 or so I hauled ass for San Jose. Arrived home last nite about 11 o’clock. life is fantastic these days, as always. The banquet, another unforgettable evening, surrounded by the fastest and most giving people I ever met.
Running out of ink in the ribbon on my Royal, love and respect to all. Thanks again…

MOTORCYCLE LAND SPEED RECORD ESTABLISHED-OFFICIAL RELEASE– The Bub Enterprises two wheeled Streamliner owned by Deni Manning and ridden by AMA Grand National Champion Chris Carr established a new world speed record for motorcycles during the Bub Speed Meet event held on the Bonneville Utah Salt Flats September 3rd through the 7th. Exceeding the 342.797 record set by by Ack Attack a day earlier, which topped the long standing Dave Campos record of 322 MPH, the new record of 350.884 MPH results from two timed runs by the Bub streamliner on an 11 mile course per AMA rules.
Another motorcycle streamliner, EZ-Hook, went 355 plus MPH on the down leg of the course but was unable to back the run up with a return after sustaining a flat tire at over 300 MPH according to track officials. For further information contact the AMA or Denis Manning at Bub Enterprises.

SPEEDFREAKS WILL BASK IN LEGENDARY GLORY, SUNDAY NIGHT IN LUCAS OIL STUDIOS– Hollywood, CA (September 8, 2006) – The Freak Nation congregation will once again get a taste of SpeedFreaks’ ability to reel-in the Big Timers as legendary hot rod designer and builder,
“Hot Rods and metal? Boyd and Lemmy? Please!,” rants SpeedFreaks’ Lugg Nuttz. “It’s like beer and peanuts, fish and French Fries… or was that beer and fish… or beer and… you get it, they both go together, Einstein.”
“Lugg’s not too far off for a guy who graduated kindergarten with honors,” says Freaks’Kenny Sargent. “Boyd’s Cadzilla, Boydster, Lead Zephyr are as original as Motorhead albums like ‘Ace of Spades’, ‘Overkill’ and ‘No Sleep ’til Hammersmith’. If the cars and riffs don’t get your rocks rollin’ then maybe you should just park it.”
Coddington’s Discovery Channel show American Hot Rod is one of the most popular for the network, and has worked with some heavyweights itself in music from ZZ Top to Van Halen. Motorhead has played some of the heaviest music ever leaving waste to those who try to mimic. The latest Motorhead album to lay down the lead is ‘Kiss of Death’ and will be featured throughout Sunday night’s show.
Joining Coddington and Kilmister will be the newly crowned 2006 IndyCar Champion and a fly by from 2006 Supercross-Motocross Champ Ricky Carmichael . There will also be some heated Freakin’ discussion on who’s in and who’s out in the Chase for the Nextel Cup.
** To catch this legendary lineup, just tune in the Freaks on your Sunday night radio, Sirius or internet THIS Sunday night, September 10 @ 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT

BILLY LANE’S TRUCK COLLISION– MELBOURNE, Fla. — Motorcycle shop owner Billy Lane, who has appeared on the Discovery Channel’s “Biker Build-Off” and “Monster Garage,” was injured in a head-on traffic accident Monday that left a man riding a small moped dead. Lane was also the host of this year’s Biker Breakfast in Sturgis and is well known throughout the custom bike building world. The 9 p.m. Monday accident involving the 36-year-old Lane, the owner of the Melbourne-based Choppers, Inc., and resident of Melbourne Beach, occurred just south of Melbourne Beach on a Florida state highway. Florida Highway Patrol investigators said Lane was trying to pass two other vehicles on a double yellow-lined portion of A1A when his southbound 2006 Dodge Ram pickup collided with a northbound 1983 Yamaha moped. The motorcyclist, identified as 56-year-old Melbourne Beach resident Gerald Morelock, was wearing a helmet. He suffered extensive injuries during the collision with the pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene. “Lane hit the motorcycle head on, and then the pickup hit a power pole,” said Kim Miller, spokeswoman for the Florida Highway Patrol. Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Patrick O’Neill confirmed that Morelock was riding the small motor bike. “But it was street legal,” O’Neill said this morning. Miller said a passenger in the custom-painted black pickup, identified as 22-year-old Erin Derrick of Rockledge, was also injured in the crash. Lane and Derrick were transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne. Lane was treated and released while Derrick remained in stable condition this afternoon, hospital officials said. Lane, a tattoo-adorned, dreadlocked chopper-building legend was semi-conscious at the accident scene. He is known nationally for his work building custom-made motorcycles. Florida Highway Patrol traffic homicide investigators said no charges were filed, but added they were waiting on the results of blood-alcohol tests, which were sent to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement state lab for evaluation. This was not Lane’s first road incident this year. In June, he was arrested by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and charged with drunken driving. Police said Lane was riding a motorcycle the wrong way on a two-lane road without a helmet. Lane refused a Breathalyzer test. The Rowan County clerk of courts confirmed that he is to appear in court on Oct. 5. Employees contacted at Lane’s Choppers Inc. Tuesday morning would not comment about the accident. BY J.D. GALLOP, Reprinted with permission of FLORIDA TODAY September 07, 2006 HOT LEATHER/GOOD SPORTS MOTORCYCLE HELMET RECALL– The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is recalling 18,419 motorcycle helmets manufactured by Chinex Apparel, Inc. and sold in the U.S. by Hot Leather/Good Sports as model numbers NH30, NH31, NH32, NH53, NH54, NH55 and NH56. The agency is warning owners of these helmets that they could be seriously injured or killed because reduced head protection. The helmets do not comply with safety standards related to shell penetration and impact attenuation, according to NHTSA. Helmet owners can contact NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236. The recall is scheduled to begin in October. GET THIS, NEW 4-WHEEL MOTORCYCLE CATEGORY BEING CONSIDERED– This might drive all the helmet states to consider amending their laws to cover this new classification. Could be an opportunity for both sides to try and slip something in. GG Quad North America, importers of the GG Quad, have a problem. As we noted before, the GG Quad is a great looking machine, the problem is you can’t drive it on the street. It’s already street legal in Europe, Japan, Russia and Dubai but not in the U.S. GG Quad North America has filed a petition with the NHTSA to allow a 4-wheel classification for a motorcycle vehicle license. They gave a demonstration in Washington, D.C. on June 13th and the committee has 120 days to make a decision. I’ve wondered about these 4 wheelers before, some of them look like they would be perfectly capable of street operation, so why not? The GG Quad is a great example of a very streetable machine so it will be interesting to see what comes of this. Then we could import a Quadrazuma http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2006/05/31/quadrazuma-by-lazareth/ , too! How can you help? If you send a letter to your congressman or senator and fax a copy to GG Quad, they?ll send you a GG Quad t shirt. Sounds like a plan, you get a t shirt and maybe you help get a new 4 wheel motorcycle classification in place. NO-COLOURS POLICY EMPHASIZED BY ALBERTA CITY MAJOR– Alberta Daily Herald Tribune (subscription), Canada – Wearing colours of known criminal biker gangs is now officially unwelcome on city property. Mayor Wayne Ayling put up the first no-gang-colours policy sign on the front doors of City Hall Wednesday morning to officially start the city’s public campaign against criminal biker gangs, such as the Hells Angels or their affiliate club, the Red Demons. “We believe it is inappropriate for people to advertise that they belong to a criminal gang on city property,” said Ayling. He said although Grande Prairie is the first city in Western Canada to have such a program in place, three other major cities in Ontario – Barrie, Durham, and Toronto – already have similar programs. Ayling said the goal now is to get local businesses to put up no-gang-colours signs on their premises. He said he had no specific number of how many businesses plan to get involved in the program as it is still in its early stages. “Like any new program, there is a process of education that we have to go through and we anticipate there will be businesses that will participate,” he said. “We will continue to educate owners of their rights under the Trespass to Property Act to ensure that people they don’t want won’t come into their businesses.” That may be a hard sell for some local businesses that regularly have motorcyclists as customers. MOST BIKE ACCIDENTS– Most accidents involving a car and motorcycle are the fault of the automobile driver. Most occur at an intersection and involve an illegal left turn into the path of an oncoming motorcyclist, just like Mr. Roethlisberger’s. But even when an automobile driver kills or maims a motorcyclist by disregarding the rules of the road, the penalties usually do not reflect the seriousness of the driver’s illegal conduct. In Iowa, an automobile driver was fined $70 for crossing the centerline and killing three motorcyclists. In Oklahoma a driver was sentenced to 30 months probation and ordered to perform “acts of kindness and generosity” after killing a motorcyclist and pleading guilty to negligent homicide. An Ohio driver who backed out of a driveway and killed a motorcyclist received a 10-day suspended sentence and three-month suspension of driving privileges. And former U.S. Rep. and South Dakota Gov. Bill Janklow was sentenced to 100 days of incarceration and fined $11,000 for running a stop sign in excess of 70 miles an hour and killing a motorcyclist, a notoriously heinous case within the motorcycling community. There is simply no excuse for “slap-on-the-wrist” penalties for such devastating violations of the law. The killing of a motorcyclist by an automobile driver is too often charged as a right-of-way violation instead of a more serious crime such as vehicular manslaughter. The latter typically requires gross negligence or recklessness on the part of the driver who caused the accident, a standard below mere careless driving, and prosecutors often believe that standard has not been met for car-motorcycle accidents. Even when a driver is convicted of vehicular manslaughter, judges do not impose a sentence commensurate with the crime. PROPERTY RIGHTS ATTACK CONTINUES– Last year, the U.S. Supreme Court, in its Kelo v. New London decision, ruled that the private property of one American could be taken and given to another American as long as it served a public purpose. The public purpose in that case was greater tax revenues for the fiscally strapped city of New London. The city figured that if it used its powers of eminent domain to force private homeowners out and then transferred their property to developers to build commercial property, there would be greater tax revenues. Many Americans were angered by this violation of both the letter and spirit of the Fifth Amendment, which in part reads, “nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.” Public purpose is not the same as public use. Public use means property can be taken, with just compensation, to build a road, a highway, a fort or some other public project. My response to the Kelo decision was, “See, I told you so.” For decades, Americans have been willing to allow politicians to trample over private property rights, so why should we be surprised when politicians become more emboldened? Here’s a brief history. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers fined one landowner $300,000 for “destroying” wetlands because he cleared a backed-up drainage ditch on his property. The Fish & Wildlife Service told one landowner he couldn’t use 1,000 acres of his property so the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker could have a place to dwell. Another owner was prevented from clearing dry brush near his home to make a firebreak because it would disturb the Stephens kangaroo rat. Building a deck on his house brought one owner a $30,000 fine for casting a shadow on wetlands. Smoking bans are another violation of private property rights supported by most Americans. If a person owns a restaurant, it is his right to decide whether or not he will permit smoking. If a restaurant owner wishes to permit smoking, he might put up a “Smoking Permitted” sign and let customers decide whether they wish to enter. Similarly, if an owner didn’t permit smoking, he might put up a “No Smoking” sign and let customers decide. I’m guessing that a restaurant owner who didn’t permit smoking would see it as a violation of his property rights if a coalition used the political arena to create legislation forcing him to permit smoking. It is no less of a property rights violation the other way around. Tyranny breeds tyranny. Chicago’s City Council recently enacted a ban on foie gras — a French delicacy made of duck and goose liver. The ostensible justification given for the ban is that foie gras represents cruelty to animals because it involves force-feeding ducks and geese in order to fatten up their livers. Mayor Richard M. Daley has mocked the ban as the “silliest law” passed by the council. Pressured by animal rights activists, a Philadelphia councilman, following his Chicago brethren, has recently introduced legislation that would ban foie gras in Philadelphia restaurants. These bans are just more of the same — attacks on private property rights. –By Walter E. This is pure conjecture. While it may or may not be true in this particular instance, it is not so in all instances. In some studies, helmets have been found to impair the safe operation of a motorcycle. The writer also failed to see the sense in having a mandatory seat-belt law but not a motorcycle helmet law. It is true that this makes no sense, but the bigger issue is that neither law should exist. Since when is government responsible for protecting us against ourselves? Citizens should be free to deal with their own comfort with safety devices. Instead of arguing over seat belt or helmet, we should be arguing the law. Citizens should have the freedom to choose in either case. ==Jimmy Epps, Wilmington BUELL ANNOUNCES SUPPORT OF NEW MOTO-ST ENDURANCE SERIES– EAST TROY, Wis. ATTENDS 52ND ANNUAL NHRA MAC TOOLS U.S. NATIONALS– LA CROSSE, WI (September 07, 2006) S&S Cycle attended the 52nd annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals NHRA drag racing competition held August 31-September 4, 2006 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Fans had a chance to visit with S&S factory representatives and see Proven Performance? S&S products up close and personal as they enjoyed the weekend of racing at this popular event. Engine displays included the T124, V124, and SH93, along with the new high performance clutch, 6-speed transmission, closed loop electronic fuel injection, the hot setup kit for Victory? motorcycles, and more. Visitors to the S&S booth also had the opportunity to see the first Street Pro bike to go in the “8’s” and the S&S-powered Pro Stock bike that Chip Ellis ran last year – the same bike that won the Vegas NHRA race last year. “We are very thankful to Mac Tools and the NHRA for allowing us to be part of this event again this year,” said Timm Fields, Director of Sales & Marketing for S&S. “This venue is a great opportunity for us to visit face to face with consumers who are excited about performance equipment for their motorcycles. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to bring our complete semi-truck display in this year due to existing NHRA exclusivity agreements – it’s too bad that the fans lost out on seeing the custom bikes from our World Builders Showcase. However, we’ve built our business on grass-roots relationships and having a chance to visit with NHRA fans up close again this year was excellent. We were very proud to tell people about the number of bikes, including the winning bike, that are S&S powered and we can’t wait to return in full force next year.” Six S&S powered bikes qualified for eliminations at this prestigious event. Matt Smith, racing for the G2 team, won the race on his Torco/Skull Gear S&S powered Buell and set a new track record as he entered the Mickey Thompson Six-Second Club with a #1 qualifying run of 6.994. In addition to meeting the fans and displaying Proven Performance products, S&S also had race specialists on hand to assist the many teams using the S&S 160″ Prostock engine. It’s based on this experience, from the planning stage to the final outcome. The salt is a mystery for racers annually, and if it wasn’t for all the brothers gathered to test their metal against the elements, no man would survive. We gathered our shit in the Bikernet pick-up and hit the road. We didn’t have many tools, and can of fasteners, a jack and an On-site pad to prevent any spillage from getting on the salt. If it wasn’t for our crew of Glenn and Kerry Priddle, who flew in from Australia, Wil Phillips of True Track, Dr. Chris Reichardt and Gene Koch from Drag Specialities, we wouldn’t get shit done. Our co-team, Chop N Grind bastards from 13 Palms, California showed us how it was really done. They brought a complete shop in their trailer and Larry, Bob T., Bob’s son, Robert, Danny, and Steve all were organized and we followed their cues. The lovely Layla and Kerry set up our tents daily as I made mods to the bike and prepared for the next 3-mile pass, with Berry Wardlaw, of Accurate Engineering on the phone coaching me. I’m going to stop here, ’cause we’ll post a major feature next week on the Bonneville Adventure 2006, and I’ll do my damnest to give every helpful soul credit as we attempted to make history on the salt since I was a member of the Easyriders crew in July of 1990.
