Wayfarer speculates: They probably stopped producing the current FTR, because they can no longer sell it in 2027. This is because of the Euro5+ regulations (FTR is Euro5). Euro 6 emission standards set limits for PM at 4.5mg/km and for NOx at 60mg for petrol vehicles. They specify mass emission standards, type approval requirements, and on-board diagnostic (OBD) system and durability levels.
As per Official Records: Indian Motorcycles has announced the discontinuation of the FTR 1200. The decision comes after the model struggled with poor sales. The FTR 1200, a roadster/flat tracker hybrid, was inspired by the successful Indian Scout FTR 750 flat tracker. Despite its unique design and features, the bike did not achieve the expected commercial success.
The discontinuation was revealed during an earnings call by Polaris Industries, Indian’s parent company. The company mentioned “certain costs associated with the wind down of the FTR product line beginning in the fourth quarter of 2024”. This indicates that Indian is no longer selling new stocks of the FTR 1200 and is likely clearing out unsold inventory.
The FTR 1200 featured a 1203cc, liquid-cooled V-twin engine producing 121.6PS and 117.9Nm. It had electronic riding aids such as traction control, cornering ABS, wheelie control, and launch control1. Despite these features, the bike’s sales did not meet expectations, leading to its discontinuation.
The Indian FTR 1200 will remain listed on the brand’s website until the remaining stock is sold off. This marks the end of a unique bike that stood out in the Indian Motorcycles lineup.
PREVIOUSLY IT WAS ILLEGAL ON THE FLAT TRACK: Indian FTR is illegal on American Flat Track SuperTwins class. Only street legal motorcycles a are allowed as of 2024. The Indian FTR750 motorcycle is now ineligible to compete in the AFT SuperTwins class. According to the new rules, all bikes competing in the series must be based around a production engine.
