Over 12,000 units of Harley X440, and Hero Mavrick 440 (which has the same engine), sold from April to December 2024.
X440 is a partnership between Harley-Davidson and their exclusive distributor in India, Hero MotoCorp. Both X440 and Mavrick 440 have distinctive features and specs with engine and frame as common elements.
It competes with other motorcycle brands having models with 350cc to 500cc engines.
Hero sold 8,974 Harley X440s and 3,214 Mavrick 440s in the first nine months of FY2025.
Royal Enfield, with 29,519 units comprising the Himalayan 450 and Guerrilla 450, accounts for a 32 percent segment share.
Bajaj Auto, with its own models and a clutch of bikes under the Husqvarna, KTM and Triumph brands, is the category leader with 47,766 units (up 51 percent) and a 51 percent market share.
As per Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data for the said nine-month period, two-wheeler makers dispatched 92,881 units of 350cc to 500cc motorcycles, up 36 percent.
However, the strong double-digit year-on-year growth is a pointer to the rising demand for premium two-wheelers.
