CLIMATE DEPOT FLASHBACK–Men Warm Globe, Women Feel the Heat, Group Claims – The solution?! ‘Climate gender justice’
The spokesman for a feminist-based environmental group at UN climate summit, accused men of being the biggest contributors to human-caused “global warming” and lamented that women are bearing the brunt of the negative climate consequences created by men.
“Women and men are differently affected by climate change and they contribute differently to climate change,” said Ulrike Rohr, director of the German-based group called “Genanet-Focal point gender, Environment, Sustainability.” Rohr, who is demanding “climate gender justice,” left no doubt as to which gender she believes was the chief culprit in emitting greenhouse gasses.
“To give you an example from Germany, it is mostly men who are going by car. Women are going by public transport mostly,” Rohr told Cybercast News Service. Rohr was standing in front of her booth, which featured a banner calling for “creative gender strategies” from “rural households to global scientific bodies.”
“In most parts of the world, women are contributing less [to greenhouse gasses],” Rohr continued. But it is the women of the world who will feel the most heat from catastrophic global warming, she said. “At least in the developing countries, it is women who are more affected because they are more vulnerable, so they don’t have access to money to go outside the country or go somewhere else to earn money and they have to care for their families,” she said.

NMA TIP OF THE WEEK–Driving through a Weather Disaster
Weather disasters can take on many forms: a sudden downpour that is much worse than predicted, an ice storm that hits suddenly, a dust storm that shows up unexpectedly, or localized ground fog so thick, you can only see a few feet in front of you.
Everyone likes to say, “Be prepared.” You can be by knowing what to do before anything happens. For an unexpected weather event, you need to, more than anything, remain calm, think about where you are and where you need to go, and if you don’t need to drive, then don’t.
If you have to drive out of the situation, remember to travel at a safe speed for the road and weather conditions. Don’t be in a hurry no matter if you’re late. Safety should always be your priority.
Here are two prime examples of recent sudden weather events. In late September, a downpour in Abilene, Texas, was so severe that many drivers were caught off guard when driving their regular route. They found themselves in high water and had to be rescued. An atmospheric river event hit northern California in late October. Fresno and Sonoma County drivers found themselves in a deluge with the possibility of mudslides.
If you find yourself in an acute downpour situation, here are some things to keep in mind.
Avoid driving through water if it is fast-moving across or down the road. Even six inches of water may cause you to lose control, and two feet of water could carry you with the flow.
Underpasses are particularly vulnerable to rising waters.
Do not drive through flood water if fallen electrical lines are nearby or have dipped in the water. (You shouldn’t go on flooded roads anyway, except in extreme emergencies, since you might not know where the road is, or if the road could have been damaged in some way.)
Be alert for debris and trash, tree limbs and even trees, loose farm animals, and stranded vehicles.
Stoplights and stop signs may be missing or not working. Treat intersections as four-way stops and be courteous with other drivers.
Recognize that law enforcement will be busy and may not be able to direct traffic.
Bad weather coupled with dangerous driving conditions should be expected. If a forecast says bad weather is on the way, heed the warning. Postpone your travel plans. If you must drive, here are some general tips that might help:
Plan Ahead
Leave earlier than planned. Bring a paper map in case cell or GPS service is spotty or affected by the storm. Make sure your equipment is in good working order. Wipers need to work well. Keep all head and tail lights clean and visible for other drivers. Clear the windshield, mirrors, and all windows of ice and snow as much as possible. Keep wiper fluid in your vehicle in case you need to add more during the trip.
Check the Weather before you Leave
Know the current forecast to anticipate what might happen when you’re on the road.
Drive like you Want Others to Drive
Drive a speed based on road conditions and the weather.
Leave room between you and the vehicle in front of you. Some say double the cushion when the weather is frightful to have time to react to what is happening in front of you. You can control what you are doing, but not the actions of other drivers.
If someone is tailgating, let them pass you and then leave plenty of space between them and your vehicle.
If you become stressed during the drive, take deep breaths and calm yourself.
Pull Over for Safety
Driving during weather events can be stressful. If you need a break, find a safe place and pull over for a few minutes. Make sure you are not pulling into a deep puddle or snowbank, and are out of the way of other traffic. Rest your eyes and listen to the radio for additional road information and weather reports if you are tired.

The vanishing breed, where parts availability makes the difference between an old bike or car being a survivor or scrap. Lack of Indian parts in the 1960s cost me the opportunity to carry on with the war surplus US Navy Indian my dad rode after getting home from the war. It had been handed down from dad to an uncle who kept it running into the ‘60s, but he could never find brake parts for it and that forced him to park the bike for good.
When I started making noises about wanting a bike dad said we’d look into getting the Indian for me. Sadly, after not being able to find brake parts my uncle gave up and sold the Indian to a collector who would use it for parts if nothing else. One more of the old breed had vanished.
I keep thinking what could have been if I’d gotten that bike as a 15-year-old and someday I’ll build a battleship gray bobber as a tribute of sorts to dad and my uncles who rode that bike after serving in the war.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Nov. 9, 2021)—The Comoto Family of Brands is thrilled to announce it raised over $300,000 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF), smashing its $100,000 target. The month’s long effort culminated with the inaugural National Ride for Kids Day held on September 12.
For more than 30 years, the PBTF’s Ride for Kids has inspired powersports communities across the country to raise funds to help children with brain tumors, which is the leading cause of cancer death in children. $309,500 was contributed directly from the Comoto community of riders. Inspiration and Recovery: Wounded Veteran Climbs the Seven Summits (on display now)
In September 2009, Specialist Benjamin Breckheimer, a Cavalry Scout with the U.S. Army 2nd Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, was severely wounded during a tour in Afghanistan. His rehabilitation was difficult as he endured numerous surgeries. During this same time, the Harley-Davidson Museum regularly sent care packages – including H-D Museum flags dotted with well wishes – to active-duty military personnel. Breckheimer took to mountaineering during his recovery and over the summer carried the H-D Museum flag to the summit of Denali, the highest point in North America. With that peak reached, Breckheimer became the first and only Purple Heart recipient to reach all the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. He continues to climb, and he shares his inspiring story to encourage resiliency and support the mental health of veterans and current service members.

In the early part of the 20th century, motorcycle culture was a homegrown phenomenon. It grew out of the passion of riders for their evolving sport. The camaraderie that developed around riding and attending competitive events led to the formation of motorcycle clubs that hosted destination rides, family picnics with motorcycle games and other riding competitions.
The newly reinstalled display case in the Clubs & Competition gallery highlights clothing from club members from primarily the 1930s and 1940s. The clothing selections on view include full dress uniforms, shirts, sweaters, jackets and caps, customized by the owners with their club name and logo, and pins or patches indicating membership in the American Motorcyclist Association. The H-D Archives™ collection includes Motorclothes® apparel sold in H-D® product catalogs but also non-H-D produced clothing items that have been proudly customized by riders.

Gail Anderson’s 1986 Softail® Custom motorcycle, “Harley Fox,” built by her partner Bob Burrows, took top prize at the first Ladies of Harley® (LOH) ride-in show during Daytona Beach Bike Week in 1987. With her custom bike and themed riding gear, Anderson presented a striking image that fit the growing visibility and exciting new options for women riders in the 1980s.
Alfonso Sotomayor’s 1957 Model FL (on display now)
The Harley-Davidson Museum is proud to announce its collection has recently grown with the addition of a 1957 Model FL that was ridden by famed Mexican stunt rider and racer Alfonso Sotomayor Canales.
Harley-Davidson’s history in Mexico dates back to at least 1913. In the 1920s, the brand was more frequently spotted throughout Mexico City as the motorcycles proved popular with the local traffic police who would also perform stunts with their Harley-Davidson® bikes. After racing from the 1930s into the 1960s, Sotomayor launched his own stunt riding career by performing the famed “Salto de la Muerte” or Jump of Death. Learn more about Sotomayor’s feats of derring-do and Harley-Davidson’s early entry into Mexico with this new display located in the Custom Culture area.

In the decades before America paved its highways, early riders had to be prepared for all sorts of terrain: sand, clay or dirt – and wandering those makeshift byways were Harley-Davidson® motorcycles. Today, it’s called off-road or adventure touring; back then it was just called riding. Since 1903, Harley-Davidson motorcycles proved their toughness by riding over wooded hills, through stone-choked creek beds and up mountain sides. “Off-Road Harley-Davidson” tells the history of motorcycles designed for rough roads, the people who rode them and the adventures they shared.
“Building a Milwaukee Icon: Harley-Davidson’s Juneau Avenue Factory” (on display now)
A recently recovered cache of architectural drawings includes plans for the original Juneau Avenue facility. The pencil drawings, along with archival photographs, demonstrate the whirlwind pace of the company’s early growth. While building an international business—going from producing just over 1,000 motorcycles in 1909 to manufacturing 27,000 motorcycles in 1920—the company’s Milwaukee factory experienced near-constant expansion. Construction through this relatively brief period created the buildings that today, a century later, are still the proud home of Harley-Davidson.
“Building a Milwaukee Icon” provides a snapshot of Harley-Davidson’s formative years and illustrates a chapter of Milwaukee history when the city was known as the “Machine Shop to the World.”

Los Angeles, Calif. – Don McLean’s beloved hit “American Pie,” makes its way into the new AppleTV+ sci-fi movie Finch starring Tony and Golden Globe Award winner Tom Hanks. Hanks plays “Finch Weinberg,” a robotics engineer who builds an AI sidekick to take care of his companion canine after he’s gone.

Have We Become a Nation of Bullies?–
Online and offline, angry, aggressive, bullying behavior has become normalized, and it’s tearing our nation apart. Elaine Parke says it’s time we got back to behaving with kindness, respect, and dignity—and her unity movement must start with you and me.
“Adult bullies are everywhere,” notes Parke, author of The Habits of Unity: 12 Months to a Stronger America…one citizen at a time (Outskirts Press, 2021, ISBN: 978-1-9772-4276-1, $21.95, www.12habits4allofus.org). “They’re harassing healthcare workers and screaming at school board meetings. On social media, they’re arguing, name-calling, shaming, and slamming those who think differently.”
Yikes. Shouldn’t we know better by now?
That’s why Parke is leading the charge against incivility, division, and unproductive conflict in America. She says it starts with holding ourselves accountable for our own bad behavior—yes, even you and me.
“No one likes to think of themselves as a bully,” she acknowledges. “But most of us have raised our voices in anger, gossiped about others, or made snarky remarks on Facebook. We all have a civic responsibility to treat others with dignity and respect, even when we don’t agree.”
Parke worries that social media has played a role in normalizing hurtful and even abusive behaviors. It’s a shame because it was meant to be a source of connection and information (and used the right way, it still is that). Unfortunately, behind a screen, we’ll say things we’d hesitate to say in person. Plus, we’re steeped in a global echo chamber that tells us we’re right, while the other side is ignorant, ill-intentioned, immoral, or worse.
“We’ve all heard the saying that we are what we eat, but I say we are the messages we consistently consume,” Parke says. “It’s time we moved to a mental diet that nourishes, encourages, and brings us together.”
Parke’s The Habits of Unity is her attempt to help people take charge of what she calls their “mental nutrition.” Much in the same way that we (hopefully) approach the food we eat, we need to develop the discipline to make more nutritious mental choices every day. Her book’s 365 “one-magic-minute-a-day” motivationals make it easy to hardwire these choices into habits.
With her simple, doable framework for uplifting ourselves, boosting our mental health, and practicing unity, Parke hopes to get everyone focused on the same branded behavior each month—just like we all focus on holidays together. The idea is that the sheer force of all that concentrated positive energy sparks a unifying kindness revolution that rises from the ground up and sweeps the nation.
Yet, until that happens, we can leverage the power of The Habits of Unity on a personal level by forming one good habit per month:

“When we each commit, all together, to eliminating our own bullying behaviors, human nature will begin to evolve into ‘humane’ nature,” says Parke. “Our country needs all of us to move beyond persecution and name-calling, and focus on listening, understanding, and cooperating with one another as much as possible.
“And as for social media,” she adds, “let’s make it a space that fosters healing instead of harassment.”

One day, I’m going to leave work and make the 1.5-mile ride up there and enter my Panhead in the show. I built it with Edward Eisler ( Vintage Harley Works ) 30+ years ago. I should say that I was there and helped build it.
Edward Eisler actually won one of the Panhead or chopper divisions about 3 years ago. Not sure when it was.

FORBIDDEN OBSERVATION OF THE DAY–The difference between the arbitrary edict known as the Constitution and the arbitrary edict known as the Koran is it is taking longer for the Constitution to evolve to full tyranny than the Koran took. Because the Koran didn’t need endless interpreting by an appointed panel of 9 imbeciles for hundreds of years to determine its “actual” content. It was in full horrific sadistic form right out the gate in plain simple language and has stayed that way.
The Constitution, unlike the Koran, pretends to be, via mystical airy ‘we humans are gods” exhausting Kabbalistic cultic exultant enlightened blather, a gateway to “the common good” – a condition not exactly itemized as to what that actually is.
Time as shown, at least to those actually paying attention, that “the common good” is evolving into the same level of misery and death and absolute tyranny that the Koran provides.
The difference is the Koran is a lot more honest about it. I’ll give the fuckers that.
