QUICK ACTION NEEDED– MRF Friends, Allies & Supporters-

If you’ve been following the news, you know there is currently a fight brewing in the Senate over the nomination for Administrator to the EPA. Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt is the current nominee, but will face a tough confirmation by the U.S. Senate before he can assume his post.

Your MRF is closely following developments as it relates to this. As you know, we have always been fierce critics of the EPA and have never hesitated in raising our opposition to the Agency which has historically overstepped its authority and jurisdiction in several areas including, but not limited to, the Clean Air Act. So it’s not surprising that we have done extensive research on the likely incoming head of the Agency, Mr. Pruitt. In his position, he will have the authority to determine the direction of the Agency and serve as the top influencer in what priorities the EPA pursues over the next 4 years.

To his credit, Pruitt has been a thorn in the EPA’s side over the last several years, filing numerous lawsuits against the EPA in his position as Attorney General to the state of Oklahoma and also strongly criticizing many of the EPA’s efforts to address climate change. In addition, Attorney General Scott Pruitt, has been a vocal opponent of the Renewable Fuel Standard; the regulation that mandates ethanol into our nation’s gasoline supply. These types of activities and positions are encouraging as members of the motorcycle community.

It’s also important to point out, and may be a surprise to some, that Pruitt has also been an advocate for the motorcycle community since serving in the Oklahoma State Senate in the 90’s. I had a chance to speak with Charlie Williams with ABATE of Oklahoma who informed me that Mr. Pruitt has always been a friend to the rider community opposing a helmet bill which came before the state legislature and helping to champion a rider education bill. As such, Charlie and many others have been vocal about their support for Mr. Pruitt in his quest to serve as Administrator to the EPA.

To this end, if Scott Pruitt is someone you would like to support for EPA Administrator given his positive history with the motorcycle community, we have created a letter that you can send to your Senators expressing your support. It takes about 1 minute to complete and will be automatically sent on your behalf to your Senators. Time is of the essence; Mr. Pruitt will likely face his confirmation hearing next week, so we ask that you take immediate action if you would like to support him:

Killer “Spring Mounted” look!

Yes, that means a bit of the mechanics of the bike are exposed. You will notice the seat lines don’t follow the strut, as if the seat were spring mounted.

Its minimal, slammed to the ground stance adds the finishing touch to these bitchin’ bikes.

Mounts like stock. The seating area is 10.5″ wide.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON ROAD KING SPECIAL DELIVERS ALL-NEW STYLE AND ATTITUDE POWERED BY THE MILWAUKEE-EIGHT ENGINE–
Swapping chrome for black and powered by the muscular Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine, the new Road King Special motorcycle pushes Harley-Davidson’s touring line in a dramatic new styling direction, expressing a contemporary perspective on the classic Road King model.

“The Road King Special pounds down the boulevard like a gleaming locomotive rolling through a train yard at midnight,” said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice-President of Styling and Design. “The Road King has always reflected the purity of the Harley-Davidson FL riding experience. By exchanging chrome surfaces for black and lowering the bike’s profile, we’ve moved the traditional Road King into a new space that’s very current in the custom bagger scene.”

A dark front end topped by a massive gloss-black headlamp nacelle is the signature styling element of the Road King Special. A new 9-inch-tall, 1.25-inch-diameter mini-ape handlebar puts the rider in an aggressive posture on the bike that’s also comfortable for long runs on the open road.

“Chrome was retained only on some key engine components,” said Harley-Davidson Designer- Stylist Dais Nagao. “The lower rocker boxes, pushrod tubes and tappet blocks are finished with chrome to emphasize the V-Twin shape of the Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine. We added a new engine-turned air cleaner insert, a finish that’s also featured on the tank console.”

The Road King Special’s engine guard, handlebar and hand controls, mirrors, turn signals, engine covers, air cleaner cover, mufflers and exhaust shields also feature black surfaces. New gloss black turbine cast-aluminum wheels include a 19-inch front wheel topped by a low-profile fender.

At the rear, stretched saddlebags flow over the mufflers to provide a slammed-to-the-ground appearance without reducing suspension travel. A rear fascia panel fills the space between the saddlebags and rear fender, and a low-mount license plate module completes the tight, low lines of the rear end.

Comfort, control and performance are enhanced by the all-new front and rear suspension components featured on all 2017 Harley-Davidson Touring model motorcycles. New hand-adjustable emulsion-technology rear shock absorbers offer 15 percent more pre-load adjustment than previous low-profile touring shocks.

The front suspension features new double-bending valve suspension technology that delivers the damping performance of a racing-style cartridge fork with linear damping characteristics and reduced weight. Reflex linked brakes with ABS and the Harley-Davidson Smart Security System are standard equipment on the Road King Special.

Powered by the new Milwaukee-
Eight engine
New for all 2017 touring models, the Milwaukee-Eight engine offers quicker throttle response, more passing power, purer sound, a smoother ride and more of the feeling riders want from a Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycle engine.

· More Power Each Milwaukee-
Eight engine produces 10 percent more torque than the engine it replaces in touring models. In addition to increased displacement, the Milwaukee-Eight engine features a higher compression ratio and four-valve cylinder heads with 50 percent more intake and exhaust flow capacity.

The valve train requires no adjustment as the design of the rocker arms enables valve lash to be set at the factory for life. Dual spark plugs for each cylinder contribute to more-efficient combustion. A single chain-driven camshaft is lighter, mechanically less complex and creates less friction and noise.

· Quicker Acceleration The Milwaukee-
Eight engine weighs the same as the engines it replaces, so its extra power contributes directly to improved acceleration performance. The Milwaukee-Eight 107 accelerates 11 percent quicker from 0-60 mph, equal to a two-to-three bike length improvement, and 11 percent quicker from 60-80 mph in top gear, equal to a one-to-two bike length improvement, compared to the Twin Cam High Output 103.

· Heat Management The Milwaukee-
Eight engine offers improved rider and passenger thermal comfort due to reduced heat absorption, increased heat rejection and a redesigned exhaust system. The Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine features a precision cooling strategy that targets a flow of oil around the hottest areas of the cylinder heads. A new knock sensor for each cylinder enables more-precise timing control. The rear exhaust pipe is repositioned and the exhaust catalyst is relocated to move heat away from the passenger. Idle speed is lowered from 1,000 rpm to 850 rpm.

· Improved Fit A new, slimmer primary drive cover and the low-
profile shape of the air cleaner cover provide improved rider legroom around the engine and an easier reach to the ground for many riders. All Milwaukee-Eight powered models are fitted with an assist and slip clutch with improved hydraulic actuation and 7 percent less clutch lever effort.

· Reduced Vibration The rubber-mounted Milwaukee-
Eight engine features a single internal counter balancer that cancels 75 percent of primary vibration at idle for a more refined feel and more comfortable experience for rider and passengers while retaining the classic character of Harley® V-Twin engines.

· Richer Exhaust Note Lighter
valves, a single camshaft, optimized cover designs and improved driveline components greatly reduce mechanical powertrain noise. The engine intake and air cleaner are designed to reduce intake sound while ensuring maximum air flow. As a result, the new Milwaukee-Eight engine is mechanically quieter, enabling a richer exhaust tone that meets all global noise and emissions standards while allowing the unmistakable rumble of its exhaust note to resonate.

· Improved Charging The Milwaukee-
Eight engine charging system delivers 50 percent more output to the battery at idle to better support the power demands of touring riders, including accessory lighting, performance audio, and heated gear and other accessories.

· New Engine Styling The Milwaukee-
Eight engine features sleek, modern styling that respects the heritage of previous Harley-Davidson big twin engines. The Road King Special is the first model to feature the Milwaukee-Eight in an all-black engine finish.

The Road King Special model is offered in four color options: Vivid Black, Charcoal Denim, Hot Rod Red Flake Hard Candy Custom, and Olive Gold.

BIKERNET NEWS EXCLUSIVE FROM LAS VEGAS MOTORCYCLE HALL OF FAME–

So last week Branscombe contacted one of the inductees to the 2017 Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame. I was about to tell you the first name, but I’ve been sworn to secrecy.

THE ALL NEW REVIVAL 140–

Of all the projects Revival has undertaken, this was by far the most challenging design-wise. Not necessarily from a technical standpoint, as the original chassis and most of the electrics would remain, but from a purely aesthetic point of view.

The challenge lay simply in the fact that the Confederate Hellcat (and all Confederates for that matter) have a very distinct visual design ethos and it isn’t exactly an empty canvas that will easily accept changes.

Alan, our founder, obsessed over sketching out many simple drawings, images, shapes, cardboard bucks, and taped line drawings. The final winning design came from a combination of several inputs from the team, as always.

Built into Revival’s DNA is that team vision and execution is better than that of any one person, and there is no better example of that coming true than with this Confederate project. A cohesive design only came together for the project when the group chimed in.

KIWI NEWS–
From Russia With Love

It’s not every day you receive a tub full of vintage Indian engine components. Especially not from Russia!

Kiwi Mike explains: “We had been supplying our customer, Vasily, parts for a few months. Then he decided to ship his 1948 Chief engine parts (at least what he has) for us to work our magic. In his words, he wanted his engine rebuilt by ‘the Kiwi legend.’ Wow, it’s exciting to share American quality around the world!”

That Kiwi “magic” involves a full engine rebuild, using proprietary Kiwi and original Indian parts to bring Vasily’s vintage Indian Chief roaring back to life. Then it’s back to Russia!

Don’t worry, we’ll ask Vasily to send pictures when the project is complete.

THE BIKERNET HARLEY INVESTOR WEEKLY–
This article says a lot. When you look at H-D’s chart from their investor website they show the growth of the demographic we need to survive, and what to they do? They killed Buell, killed V-Rod, and gave MV Agusta back to the Italians with a trust fund (which is now depleted and so they are out with their hat in hand again).

My scooter added to the chart may be our future? Shit……….

CLIMATE GATE REVEALED–
This section contains various articles, videos and links to websites that expose the business of “Climate Fear Mongering”.

Yes, it is a business and they are making big bucks by keeping you scared. Back in the ’60s they told us we were headed for another ice age but when temperatures started to climb it was “Global Warming”.

Now as it looks like that bugaboo is not going to pan out, they are moving to “Climate Change”. So now, no matter what happens their bases are covered–that is unless there is no change and they have find a new scare like “Climate Stagnation”.

Yes, the climate does change. Sometimes there are warm periods and sometimes there are cooling periods. Does human activity cause it? Not likely. Can bad science be used convince the masses to follow their leaders to economic doom and submit to control and regulation thus increasing their wealth and power? Very likely!

Many of the regulations that threaten to destroy the California economy or regulate the way we live our lives are justified as compliance with AB32–now law in California. This law was passed by politicians who never miss an opportunity to expand government control and used the fear of global warming, now climate change, to justify their power grab.

“Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will pledge with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenarios, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government.”

–Henry Kissinger in an address to the Bilderberg organization meeting at Evian, France, May 21, 1992. Transcribed from a tape recording made by one of the Swiss delegates.

“A lie told often enough becomes truth”

SOFTAIL DEAL OF THE WEEK– Sorry, I did not even wipe it off, it has been sitting in the back of my garage for the past 7 years.

I start it 3 or 4 times per year and occasionally take it around the block, otherwise as you can see, 120.9 miles.

After running the bike I shut off the fuel and run the carb dry, also there is Sea Foam stabilizer in the tank to keep the gas from going bad.

The bike is original down to the oil in the motor except the battery was changed twice. The windshield and engine bars are H-D parts and there is a short back rest that locks on with a couple of levers, (also HD, not shown).

I see them on the internet for $10,900 with 30K miles to $14,000 with 4K miles. I realize that asking and getting are two different things, but would like to get a fair price for the bike. What are you thinking?

JIMS SPECIAL TOOL OF THE WEEK–
No. 2268 5-speed Main Case Seal Installer Tool.

JIMS No. 2268 5-speed Main Case Seal Installer Tool simplifies seal installation on Harley-Davidson 5-speed transmissions.

Let’s face it, most mechanics don’t have a socket big enough to fit the large diameter of the main drive bearing seal. This leads to the use of wood blocks or tapping on the seal with a hammer, and that rarely turns out good.

JIMS No. 2268 Seal Driver fits the seal perfectly, centers on the main drive gear, and allows the mainshaft to pass through it, so no major disassembly is required.

All it takes is a few taps with a hammer and the seal is installed to the perfect depth for a leak free install every time.

Made in the USA and featuring JIMS® lifetime tool warranty, JIMS No. 2268 retails for $68.35. Use on 1985-2006 Big Twin 5-speed and aftermarket 6-speed transmissions.

Not for 2006 Dyna.

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT–
Jim Ellis Customers Raise $65K for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta

Jim Ellis Automotive Group announces charity campaign total of $65,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta to give kids in need the gift of a great future.

This holiday season, the Jim Ellis Automotive Group found a new opportunity for giving back to the community, to the tune of $65,000, through partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta. Thanks to the support of old and new customers alike, this surpassed the original donation goal for the campaign by $15,000. The official check presentation was held on January 31 at the A. Worley Brown Boys & Girls Club in Norcross.

“Many of the youth we serve face big challenges. They don’t have access to the resources and relationships they need to excel,” said Missy Dugan, president & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta. “We are so grateful to partners like Jim Ellis who believe in our kids and invest in their future potential. We know with the right resources and support, these kids and teens will become the next leaders in our community.”

All 13 Jim Ellis family-owned and operated dealerships participated in this holiday giving campaign. A portion of every new or pre-owned vehicle purchase that occurred at one of our Jim Ellis dealerships between November 25, 2016 and January 2, 2017 was set aside to go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.

For more than 75 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta has been helping kids and teens and have positively influenced more than 100,000 young lives. The organization started with one Club on Washington Street in 1938, and has grown to dozens of locations in and around Atlanta, serving thousands of kids each day. Through the support of others, the Atlanta area clubs are able to provide innovative programs that help kids succeed in school, living healthy lives, and cultivate an attitude of giving back.

BIKERNET COUNTRY WESTERN SINGLE OF THE WEEK–
Denny Strickland Keeps Heat On With New Single,
“We Don’t Sleep”

Denny Strickland keeps the heat on with his newest single, the suggestive and steamy “We Don’t Sleep.” The track officially premieres today on The Boot; radio can access the tune via Play MPE and CDX, and fans can pre-order their copy HERE. Denny will debut “We Don’t Sleep” to Nashville insiders during Country Radio Seminar with a full-band performance at The Listening Room’s Fresh On The Row show Wednesday, February 22 at 3 p.m.

Strickland and Sean Giovanni co-produced the song, which was written by hitmakers Jaida Dreyer, Cole Taylor, Tommy Cecil and Jody Stevens. It is the first release from Denny’s upcoming CD, CALIFORNIA DREAMIN’.

Strickland’s wide range of artistic influences is on full display here, but it’s a cohesive sound that should resonate with the eclectic music fans that form Denny’s core audience. Giovanni notes their production goal was to give listeners the “structured depth of a Pop/Country record along with the emotional impact of a live band feel.” Sean adds, “It’s a sonic roller coaster.” For Denny, this was unexplored territory. “I think my fans will love it. We’re thrilled with the result,” Strickland says.

Early radio believers weigh in:

“This is THE song that’s taking him to the next level in his career. This is a #1 single!”
– Melissa Frost, KRRV

“The absolute best music to date from Denny proves this Country powerhouse has arrived. Great vocals, perfect harmonies, simply stated, A HIT.” – Ed Carter, WKSR/WLLX

“Well written, well produced and well sung. Denny presents a whole new side of his Country personality. He’s always been good but he just continues to impress.” – Mike Thomas, KFAV

“Powerful, infectious song. Denny’s best release yet.” – Heath Shelby, KWCK

“We Don’t Sleep” follows Denny’s three previous MusicRow CountryBreakout™ Chart hits: the full throttle “Swerve On,” the driving “How Far You Wanna Go” and the grinding “Get A Grip.” The “Get A Grip” video premiered on VEVO to over 18 billion viewers. The clip has enjoyed over 500,000 YouTube views to date and won the International Hotdisc award for Best Video in 2016.

UNCLE MONKEY COMES AWAY FROM WRENCHES AND MOTORCYCLES TO DISCUSS THE MOTHER-IN-LAW–
The sister in law is a little miffed. It seems that she is having a hard time tracking down her mom. One week the mother-in-law is here, the next couple she is over there but never at home where she is suppose to be pining away her golden years waiting for the good Lord to sweep her away.

You see the mother-in-law was never really far from her daughter – I tore her youngest away and moved away – and so she spent a large part of her time baby-sitting the grand children. But like everything time marches on. Those young babes are grown now, have children and homes of their own.

She has spent some time when the great grand children were first-born baby-sitting but even they are rapidly closing in on teenage years. Through out that time Mrs. Monkey and I have commandeered the mother-in-law to dog sit for us when we went away. But now as the population has grown older many people are finding that their own kids are grown and self-sufficient but they still have pets.

The mother-in-law fills her days cat sitting for this couple on holidays, puppy sitting while the next heads to the coast to welcome a great-grand child, watching our Rhune when we roll through the Black Hills.

In fact for the next couple of months she is booked solid scratching behind ears and giving belly rubs to furry family members. Perhaps that is the progression of life. First raising our own children, then our grand children, a few years caring for our parents and possibly great-grand kids and then finally our pets.

The mother-in-law is more than happy to be caring for the four-legged children. They usually pay for all her meals, etc and throw her a couple more bucks for her time to stay in their homes while away.

In the mean time her daughter will have to get use to her mom wrangling pets instead of diapers.

PPG Announces Key Advances in Color Tools–
PPG today announced that it has developed several key advances in its popular array of color software and hardware tools. The news was delivered by Denise Lu, PPG global marketing director. While specifics are still under wraps, Lu indicated that dramatic enhancements to the company’s PAINTMANAGER® color management software, RAPIDMATCH™ X-5 spectrophotometer and TOUCHMIX® color retrieval system are clear expressions of PPG’s commitment to maintaining its leadership position in automotive refinish color technology.

“We have been working on critical initiatives that will elevate our color tools to a whole new level, all to the benefit of our customers,” said Lu. “Those individuals who attended the SEMA show and saw our video about color tools have an idea of what’s coming. Our color management, identification and retrieval products are already highly efficient and accurate; they’re in daily use in collision centers around the country. Now we’re giving these products advanced features and capabilities to make automotive refinishing even easier, more productive and more quality-focused.”

The advanced tools will be part of a new Color Solutions product line branded XI. “XI means excellent, innovative, exciting, intuitive and exceptional, all key attributes for this line of tools. We firmly believe that our customers will quickly see and embrace the value of XI products, and we are proud of bringing 25 years of consistent, reliable color matching technology to the refinish industry,” Lu added.

The first of the three initiatives, the TouchMix XI computer, was released this month in the U.S. and Canada. Exclusive to PPG, this robust Windows OS computer provides a secure and compact solution for the most demanding environments.

Second is the PaintManager XI program software. It will be rolled out across the U.S. and Canada this spring and introduced to additional markets soon thereafter. This next-generation software features numerous process improvements and a more intuitive workflow to help managers oversee the productivity and profitability of their paint mixing operations more effectively. The new software also provides greater opportunities for collaboration.

Rounding out the trio of new tools is the RapidMatch XI spectrophotometer. This third-generation spectrophotometer was designed exclusively for PPG to significantly advance collision repair. The innovative spectrophotometer combines eleven color angles and five texture angles for a total of sixteen geometries powered with six blue-enhanced LEDs, making it the most advanced technology in the industry today.

Details about the new color products will be released in a few weeks.

For more information about the PPG range of color tools, call (800) 647-6050 or visit www.ppgrefinish.com.

BEGINNER’S GUIDE OR MOTORCYCLES TO GET STARTED ON– WRN’s guide to bikes for new women riders

For a new rider, the selection of motorcycles on the market can seem overwhelming, especially when you’re not sure where to start. Fortunately there are bikes that prove time and time again to be ideal choices for new riders. We’ve compiled a list of those bikes with the new woman rider in mind.

At Women Riders Now, we recommend starting out on a smaller motorcycle, one on which a newly minted rider can easily and confidently practice the skills learned in the motorcycle training class. There are certainly other motorcycles beginners can learn on—for example, some small displacement dual-sports—however this list reflects the most popular new and used motorcycle choices among beginning women riders.

Except for the Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 models included in our list, we don’t recommend learning on a motorcycle that is more powerful than that so we list only motorcycles with engine displacements less than 500cc, with a few exceptions. The only reason the Sportster 883s are listed is because they were long considered Harley-Davidson’s entry level model before the Street was introduced. Because the majority of the female riding population rides a Harley-Davidson it’s necessary we include the Motor Company’s “entry level” model that many women have started on over the years.

Other than that, all these motorcycles fall into the small displacement category with a few exceptions. Again, it’s worth stressing that historically these are the motorcycles that women have had the highest chances of success learning on and practicing with before trading up to a bigger motorcycle. That is the premise of this list.

Two sections where you can read first-hand from women about the motorcycles they started on, including their successes as well as their “bumps in the road,” are the Your Questions Answered, and the Your Stories sections.

Read the whole story on Women’s Riders Now.

The great PBS science series Nova scores another hit with Mars: Dead or Alive, capturing all the excitement surrounding the Mars rover landings of early 2004.

Originally broadcast just as the first of the twin rovers (“Spirit” and “Opportunity”) was experiencing temporary communication problems with Earth-bound mission controllers, this riveting hour-long episode chronicles the risky $820 million Mars Exploration Rover (MER) project from design to touchdown, dramatically illustrating (through the use of detailed simulations and sophisticated computer animation) the considerable chances of failure–a nail-biting gamble considering that fully two-thirds of all previous Mars missions never reached their destination.

Through rigorous testing and initial failure of the MER parachute system to the celebrated transmission of pristine photos from the “Spirit” landing site, we see just how intensely complex and emotionally involving the missions are, especially for Cornell University astronomer and lead MER scientist Steve Squyres and his devoted team of colleagues at Pasadena’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Careers are on the line as technical problems accumulate, and one feels the same mixture of dread, anxiety, and elation that accompanied the historic return of Apollo 13. A bonus interview with Mars-mission pioneer Donna Shirley puts everything into resonant perspective, celebrating science and the MER missions as an essential human endeavor.

LAWMAKERS RESPOND–
to Motorcyclists’ Concerns Over Lack of Representation on Motorcyclist Advisory Council

When last year’s highway bill passed into law, motorcyclists worked hard to re-establish the Motorcyclist Advisory Council or ‘MAC’. By design, the MAC was created to coordinate with and counsel the Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on infrastructure issues that affect motorcyclists.

So, it came as shock when the FHWA announced in January they would only dedicate one seat out of a possible ten for a motorcyclist on the Council. Instead, the other nine seats were to represent experts in road design, construction, safety and engineering.

Riders from across the nation quickly sounded the alarms, calling on their elected officials to correct what was viewed by many as not only a misstep by the Agency, but a sharp turn away from the congressional intent behind the statute of the highway bill itself. Officials in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate agreed.

Approximately one month after the announcement about the composition of the MAC was issued, letters were sent to the newly confirmed Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao asking her to ensure that a balanced makeup of the MAC be guaranteed to address motorcyclists’ concerns.

The bipartisan Senate letter, led by Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK) included a total of eleven signatories including that of John Thune (R-SD), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation which has jurisdiction over transportation-related matters.

The U.S. House of Representatives issued its own letter to Secretary Chao outlining its concerns with actions by the FHWA, asking the Secretary to go as far as to delay future activity of the MAC until a fair and balanced composition could be reached.

The House letter, led by Representatives’ Tim Walberg (R-MI), Mark Pocan (D-WI), Mike Burgess (R-TX) Donald Norcross (D-NJ) stated,
“It is critical to allow motorcyclists to have a strong voice on this Council. These are the individuals who have experience and can provide a motorcyclist’s insights on the challenges and benefits of our roadways. Depending on where they live, riders have unique experiences and are differently impacted by roadway and barrier design, and construction, among others.”

In total, almost 40 lawmakers signed onto the letters representing sixteen different states. Still, other lawmakers including Congressman LaHood (R-IL) directed his own inquiry to the Agency while others including Representatives’ Ted Budd (R-NC) and Mark Sanford (R-SC) called the Federal Highway
Administration directly speaking with Michael Griffith, Director of the Office of Safety Technologies within the Agency and the contact for the MAC according to the Federal Register notice. Both registered their opposition on the composition of the Council though reported the response from Griffith was “limited.”

The Federal Highway Administration is accepting nominations to the MAC through February 23. It is unclear as to whether they will look to increase the number of motorcyclists on the Council despite the concerns expressed from various lawmakers and the motorcycle community at-large.
Leading the charge on the issue is the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, the Washington, DC-based organization for states’ motorcyclists’ rights organizations as well as motorcycle clubs and individual riders.

President of the Board of Directors Kirk ‘Hardtail’ Willard explained the impetus for the organization’s strong stance on this issue, “Motorcyclists deserve robust representation on bodies handling issues that affect their community. It’s a scary world for riders when this all-important dialogue between the federal government and the motorcycling community may very well take place among bureaucrats who have never swung a leg over a motorcycle.”

QUICK, CONNECTICUT RIDERS ALERT–
Motorcycle Riders from Connecticut fought very hard to get Freedom of Choice on Helmet Use and All Residents of Connecticut are Requested to Contact Their Legislators on Request They Do Not Let These Bills Pass.

Helmet mandate introduced in the Connecticut General Assembly

Contact your Representative today!

H.B. 6048 and H.B. 6281, introduced in the Connecticut House of Representatives, would require all riders in Connecticut to wear a helmet while operating a motorcycle or motor scooter. Current Connecticut law allows riders 18 and older to choose whether to wear a helmet. These bills would take that choice away.

The American Motorcyclist Association believes adults 18 and older are capable of making personal safety decisions for themselves. Society’s role is not to mandate personal safety, but to provide the education and experience necessary to aid adults in making these decisions for themselves. Rather than spend taxpayer dollars enforcing helmet mandates, the AMA instead urges lawmakers and regulators to invest those resources in rider education, motorist awareness and programs designed to reduce distracted driving.

Please read the AMA’s positions statement on voluntary helmet use.

Please use the form below to contact your representatives and urge them to oppose H.B. 6048 and 6281.

QUICK, KEEP THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY OPEN–
A policeman was rushed to the hospital with an inflamed appendix. The doctors operated and advised him that all was well, however, the patrolman kept feeling something pulling at the hairs in his crotch. Worried that it might be a second surgery and the doctors hadn’t told him about it, he finally got enough energy to pull his hospital gown up enough so he could look at what was making him so uncomfortable.

Taped firmly across his pubic hair and private parts were three wide strips of adhesive tape, the kind that doesn’t come off easily — if at all. Written on the tape in large black letters was the sentence, “Get well soon, from the nurse in the Ford Explorer you pulled over last week.”

WHICH WAY TO TURN–
This is so interesting. We were once the land of the brave and home of the free. Now we are in a competition to become the most regulated country on the planet. We will attack our neighbors, ruin businesses, and force whole industries to die in the name of CLIMATE CHANGE, while other countries do nothing.

And is the Global threat really real? Was the communist threat real in the McCarthy era? Why can’t we find balance and Freedom again? If you want to recycle and ride a bicycle perfect, but we don’t need to attack the neighbor who has a hot rod or a chopper.

I’m trying to figure it out. It’s as if high school principals were running the country, telling us kids what we needed to do and when. But the tables have turned.

Okay, so I’m hoping some of these issues will be resolved and we can return to our roots, chasing custom bikes, girls and whiskey. Much more fun and within the Code of the West. We have a couple of features headed your way.

Just rode my Indian to OC Indian in Westminister. I got the 10,000 mile service and Jose the mechanic noticed a very bent shift linkage. He fixed it, and it’s never shifted easier. What the hell?

We are planning to install these super Lindby bars and highway pegs on one of the wild Indians in the shop. They make them for all Harley Touring Models and Indians.

Hang on as we figure life out and the folks who run it.

In the meantime, Ride Free Forever!
