LAWS, ACTION AND BAD JOKES RETURN TO THE BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for April 21st, 2016

Hey,

About Freedom. We seem to live in a society admonishing Freedom as a thing of the past. I had a conversation with Dennis Manning. The EPA told him point blank that they are controlling everything that rolls, and ultimately custom motorcycles had to be apart of the mix. So, why isn’t it the other way around?

Why don’t government agencies have a mandate to find freedom, not control? I had a notion. The EPA was started as an advisory group. So, let’s start a freedom advisory group. Then someday the president will wake up and say, “Freedom works, it’s what keeps humanity breathing, celebrating, being innovative, and strong.” They will then give us billions to mandate that government agencies relinquish control and return freedom to the public. Amazing!

FOXBOROUGH to Host PIRELLI Supercross Stars for the First Time in 26 Years–The Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, is set to take place at Gillete Stadium in Foxborough this Saturday, April 23, for Round 15 of 17. For the first time in 26 years, the sports brightest stars will return to the city that sits just southwest of Boston and serves as home to the iconic New England Patriots football team. The weather could play a key factor in the open roof stadium, but regardless of the conditions, Pirelli’s SCORPION™MX lineup will be up for the challenge.

BTO Sports/WPS/KTM’s Justin Brayton has been a man on a mission, however, misfortune out of his control has struck several times in recent weeks while running comfortably inside of the top five. The veteran has no apparent lack for speed and shows no signs of slowing down soon. It’s only a matter of time before things work in favor of the No.10 and we see him fighting for a podium position at the checkered flag.

After starting the season injured, Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha’s Justin Barcia has been working non-stop to climb his way back towards the front of the field, which included recording his best finish since returning to racing this past weekend in St. Louis. The New Yorker will have plenty of fans when he lines up on the starting gate in the northeast this weekend.

JGRMX rider Weston Peick has returned to the form he relied on to establish himself as a contender and grab his first career 450SX Class podium last season. The Pirelli rider has shown promise in the northeast before and is expected to keep the momentum rolling.

Pirelli’s support is widespread across the paddock in Monster Energy Supercross, which includes being the tire of choice for a variety of privateer’s, such as Alex Ray and TPJ Racing’s Nick Schmidt who regularly go bar-to-bar with the sport’s elite riders. Each rider has scored multiple top-20 finishes throughout the season, but will be determined to crack the top-15 in the remaining races.

The Eastern Regional 250SX Class has been nothing short of exciting through the first six rounds. After powering his SCOPRION™MX32 tires to a podium finish in Toronto, MAD Racing/Dirt Candy Graphics/Suzuki’s Matt Bisceglia has been forced to battle from the tail end of the field due to first lap racing incidents. He currently sits top-10 in the championship standings and is eager to find his way back on the podium.

Motorcycle Superstore Suzuki’s Jimmy Albertson has been plagued by injury throughout most of the season, but despite the injury, he continues to soldier through the pain and give his best effort each weekend. If the season opener in Atlanta was any indication of his abilities, the friendly Suzuki rider will be looking to rejoin the front-runners inside the top-10.

Supercross action from the Gillette Stadium gets underway on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. ET and can be viewed on FOX. Check local listings for channel information.

WEEKLY GUN NUT REPORT–West Virginia Concealed Carry Change.

Beginning June 5, anyone over age 21 who can legally possess a firearm will be allowed to carry it concealed on their person in West Virginia without having to obtain a permit. While West Virginia has allowed open carry in the past, they required a permit to carry a concealed firearm. With the new law the state will become the eighth in the nation to implement what gun rights activists call “constitutional carry.”

In early March, the West Virginia legislature overturned the veto of Democratic Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin to allow permit-less gun carry in the state.

The law also implements a provisional permit for those between the ages of 18 and 20 who wish to carry a concealed firearm within the state. Previously, people age 18 to 20 could not legally obtain a permit to carry.

As a lifetime resident of West Virginia and someone who has held a permit to carry concealed for several years, I plan to keep my permit for the purpose of reciprocity with other states as I travel a good bit to surrounding states where the permit will still be required.

While I have mixed feelings on certain aspects of this section of code and local law enforcement, among others, was fairly outspoken about their concern in passing this legislation, it is certainly a win for the NRA and does take another step to assure the right of citizens to possess firearms.

To review the actual bill as passed into law, you may review HB4145

THE MAGNIFICENT UNCLE MONKEY ON REPAIRS–
We’ve all seen them around. Motorcycles that have been neglected for far too long. Dirt and grime, missing lens here, tattered seat there. But under the dirt and grime you can see a diamond shining through.

A strong heart, a strong foundation. Your buddy laughs at you as he helps load it into the back of his truck. The price was cheap enough that you just can’t let it pass. Once in the garage you look it over confirming that you are not crazy, that you weren’t just seeing tricks of the light.

A good wash goes from here to Sturgis in making it look better. Most of the stuff is there. Simple and honest it requires more time than anything. A few zip ties clipped, a set of broken signal lights on the bench. Your buddy swings by with the rest of the crew to mock you but each trip there is marked improvement.

A simple check list. Clean it, make it functional, make it beautiful. You take it for a spin around the block; take it on a poker run or two. A new Saddle man seat here, soft and supple saddlebags for a clean t-shirt and toothbrush.

On a cold winter’s day you tackle the paint. With Moorhead on the stereo you start rubbing the tank down. Years strip away to reveal a vibrant color. A part here, a part there, your traditional item right there where it belongs.

Your buddy asks how it is coming along, when will you be riding it again. He bitches about his ride, tells you that it might be time for something else. A few beers later, a firm handshake later you are helping him load it into the back of his truck. You hold shotgun over to his place. There it is sitting in his driveway. Worn and neglected for far too long. But under it all you can see the diamond shining through.

THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY RE-OPENING–

A little boy was waiting for his mother to come out of the grocery store. As he waited, he was approached by a man who asked, “Son, can you tell me where the Post Office is?”

The little boy replied, “Sure! Just go straight down this street two blocks and turn to your right.”

The man thanked the boy kindly and said, “I’m the new pastor in town. I’d like for you to come to church on Sunday…I’ll show you how to get to Heaven.”

The little boy replied with a chuckle. “You’re bullshitting me, right? You don’t even know the way to the Post Office!”

· Auctions America readies for its annual Auburn Spring weekend, May 5-7 at Indiana’s historic Auburn Auction Park

· Powerful American muscle cars join roster of approximately 450 collector vehicles set to go under the gavel

· Auction docket features select automobiles from the personal collection of Wayne Carini, star of ‘Chasing Classic Cars’; Carini to attend weekend to film for his hit television series and conduct autograph sessions

· 100 percent of proceeds from sale of two vehicles to benefit Autism research and education

· Full event information and digital catalog available at www.auctionsamerica.com

With a successful start to its 2016 season in Fort Lauderdale securely under its belt, Auctions America is looking ahead to its Auburn Spring sale, May 5-7. The first of two annual events held at the historic Auburn Auction Park, this year’s Auburn Spring weekend will offer more for collectors and enthusiasts than ever before. In addition to all the auction excitement, featuring some 450 cars and select automobilia, the May event will offer a number of new automotive-themed activities for enthusiasts of all ages.

The focal point of Auburn Spring is, without question, the multi-day auction. This year’s event will feature three sale sessions: a Thursday evening sale, followed by full-day sessions on Friday and Saturday. Once again, enthusiasts will be treated to Auctions America’s trademark quality and diversity of product: an eclectic group of vehicles spanning over a century of automotive history and a variety of price points, along with assorted automobilia.

Paying complement to market trends witnessed at Fort Lauderdale, the Auburn Spring docket is highlighted by a fantastic selection of quality American muscle cars. Leading the pack is a rare, highly original 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429. Built by Ford to maintain its edge in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series, the Boss 429 is recognized by many as the ultimate ‘pony car’, and arguably one of the rarest and most valuable muscle cars of its time.

The example on offer, striking in Grabber Blue, is a rare preservation example and comes to auction just two owners and less than 17,000 miles from new (Est. $250,000 – $260,000).

Also set to cross the Auburn stage is an equally eye-catching 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Ram Air III Hardtop Coupe; finished in Orbit Orange-on-black, it is presented in concours condition and boasts numerous upgraded features, including a four-speed transmission with Safe-T-Track posi-traction rear end, rally steering wheel and Rally II wheels (Est. $95,000 – $110,000).

In addition to individual entries, Auburn Spring will continue Auctions America’s strong track record for single-vendor offerings, featuring a number of private collections – offered entirely without reserve. As a special highlight, this year’s catalog includes a selection of six vehicles from the personal collection of Wayne Carini, star of Velocity’s Chasing Classic Cars. Among highlights of the group, a handsome, CCCA Full Classic 1933 Pierce-Arrow Model 836 Sedan (Est. $70,000 – $90,000); and a stunning sky-blue 1966 Dodge Monaco Two-Door Hardtop, offered without reserve (Est. $15,000 – $20,000).

All proceeds for the sale of the Dodge Monaco will benefit the Treasure Coast Autism Porject (TCAP) of Stuart, Florida, a charity chosen by Mr. Carini and dedicated to improving the lives of children living with autism on the Treasure Coast by providing educational opportunities suited to each child’s unique academic, therapeutic and social needs.

‘Retro Swap’ – Flashback to the ‘70s when car clubs, coast to coast, sponsored casual Saturday morning swap meets – an inexpensive, quick and easy way for car buffs to turn extra parts into cash, and a great hunting ground for automobilia. Auctions America is excited to bring the experience back to the Auburn Auction Park as part of this year’s Auburn Spring event. Clean out your garage and join us at the East Gate from 8:30am on Saturday, May 7 as we collectively create the ultimate automotive flea market. Vendor admission is $25 and includes entry for two to the Retro Swap and the Auburn Spring auction;

COMING TO BANDIT’S CANTINA THIS WEEK–
One of the best memories of this past Daytona Bikeweek was our visit to Billy Lane’s new shop. Marilyn Stemp, the editor of editors, IRON TRADER NEWS, had grabbed me at the Broken Spoke and said we were meeting at Billies shop the next morning. Well you know I was all over that, couldn’t wait.

John Marcella (JOHNNY MAC’S CHOPPER HOUSE) and I arrived early & had a fantastic conversation with Billy regarding what he is presently doing & without spoiling anything, he has some projects in the wind that I’d rather let him explain, or, go on his website or facebook page and listen / watch his videos. CALIFORNIA TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION–Pickup may have intentionally hit motorcyclists on the 210 Freeway, CHP report says– n accident on the 210 Freeway that injured six people may have started with the driver of a pickup truck deliberately striking a motorcyclist, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday just west of Irwindale Avenue in Irwindale.

According to the CHP’s preliminary investigation, six motorcycles were heading west at 65 mph in the No. 1 lane when a black pickup in the No. 4 lane cut across the freeway, hitting one of the motorcycles. That caused a chain reaction with the other five motorcycles, and at least two of those bikes struck a BMW in the carpool lane.

The CHP said the driver of the pickup may have intentionally struck the motorcycles.

The truck was gone by the time rescue workers arrived. As of Sunday afternoon, the CHP had no license plate number or information on the driver.

Six people were injured in the crash, said Ed Pickett, supervising dispatcher for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Four of them were taken to hospitals, two in critical condition. The other two had minor injuries.

The carpool lane, as well as the No. 1 and 2 westbound lanes, were closed for about 1 and 1/2 hours Saturday night.

MRF STAFFER CAN’T CATCH A BREAK–
I got rear ended yesterday on my motorcycle merging on to Rt. 50. I’m okay but the bike took some damage and is currently sitting at the tow yard since none of the HD service departments would receive it yesterday. The merge is one of those special ones that doesn’t have a merge area and I guess she turned her head to look at traffic to pull out but went anyways.

I just got off the phone with her insurance and she is claiming that I caused her to rear end me by trying to pull off the road??? The road there doesn’t even have a berm to pull over and I was in 2nd gear accelerating.

So, I’ve spoken to Matt Danielson and he has given me the next steps to take.

I just want to get her out of the impound/holding yard and off to a shop.

FEDS RESUME CONTROVERSIAL ASSET SEIZURE PROGRAM–
Bikers have become all too familiar with the law enforcement tactic of asset seizure, with club patches and trademarks coming under fire in recent years, and now the Justice Department has just announced that it is resuming the controversial practice that allows local police departments to funnel a large portion of assets seized from citizens into their own coffers under federal law.

Asset forfeiture is a contentious practice that lets police seize and keep cash and property from people who are never convicted – and in many cases, never charged – with wrongdoing. The “equitable-sharing” program gives police the option of prosecuting asset forfeiture cases under federal instead of state law. Federal forfeiture policies are more permissive than many state policies, allowing police to keep up to 80% of assets they seize.

The Justice Department had suspended payments under this program back in December due to budget cuts included in last year’s spending bill, raising hopes the department was reining in the practice, but law enforcement groups recently rallied members of Congress to call on the Justice Department to restore the payments.

Reports have found that the use of the practice has exploded in recent years, prompting concern that police may be motivated more by profit and less by justice. In 2014, federal authorities seized over $5 billion in assets.

IN BRIEF: MEDICAL MARIJUANA LAW SIGNED IN PENNSYLVANIA–

Pennsylvania has become the 24th state in the country to legalize medical marijuana.
Gov. Tom Wolf signed the Medical Marijuana Act on Sunday. It will take effect in 30 days.

It could take months, possibly a year or more, before marijuana grown in Pennsylvania will be able to treat in-state residents. Growers and processors will have to go through rigorous steps of establishing a new business through the state.

Additionally, doctors will have to get the education they need to recommend the drug.

A legal medical marijuana program in the state would establish no more than 25 growers/processors and 50 dispensaries. Each dispensary can have as many as three locations. That program could take several months before implementation, if not a year or more.

BIKERNET DEBATE OF THE WEEK FEATURED IN THE BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY–
No English dictionary has been able to adequately explain the difference between these two words. In a recent linguistic competition held in London and attended by, supposedly, the best in the world, Samdar Balgobin, a Guyanese man, was the clear winner with a standing ovation which lasted over 5 minutes.

The final question was: How do you explain the difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED in a way that is easy to understand? Some people say there is no difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED.

Here is his astute answer:
When you marry the right woman, you are COMPLETE. When you marry the wrong woman, you are FINISHED and when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are COMPLETELY FINISHED!!!

PAUL YAFFE Celebrates 25 Years of Custom Motorcycle Building During
Arizona Bike Week–
Paul Yaffe Bagger Nation Was the Official Start of the Hamster “Dry Heat” Run

Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation, the motorcycle shop owned and operated by venerated bike builder Paul Yaffe, used the opportunity of the 2016 Arizona Bike Week motorcycle rally to celebrate 25 years of designing and building the best and most sought after custom motorcycles, parts and accessories in the world.

Paul opened his first custom shop, American Legend Motorcycle Company, in 1991. Today, 25 years later, while not operating out of the same location, Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation (together with Paul Yaffe Originals) is recognized as one of–if not the–preeminent custom motorcycle and parts manufacturers in the world.

“It all started with a love of motorcycles and a curiosity and desire to see what could be made of them,” says Paul. “I never would have guessed, when I first started experimenting in the mid eighties, that it would lead to where we are today.”

Paul Yaffe has enjoyed one of the most storied and influential careers in motorcycle designing and building. In the past 25 years, he has won many awards, contests and honors, including three “World’s Most Beautiful Motorcycle” awards at the famous Oakland Roadster Show and two “Builder of the Year” and three “Trendsetter of the Year” honors from Easyriders Magazine.

The subject of over 300 magazine articles and profiles, Paul has also featured in the Discovery Channel’s popular show Biker Build-Off and the 10-episode docudrama Biker Battleground on the History Channel as well as dozens of other nationally televised shows on networks such as NBC, Travel Channel and Speed TV.

Bagger Nation was also the starting point and sponsor of the 6th Annual Hamsters Charity “Dry Heat” Run, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars when combined for Lifescape Children’s Care Hospital. Riders joined fellow Hamsters Arlen Ness, Donnie Smith, Paul Yaffe, Nick Trask, among others, as they welcomed special guest for this year’s charity run: NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace, making his first Dry Heat run on his brand new Bagger Nation custom Street Glide.

After a scenic and exhilarating ride through the foothills, participants enjoyed lunch, prize giveaways and frosty beverages as they spend the afternoon “Hamster Style” before wrapping up at Arizona Bike Week at Westworld for the Reverend Horton Heat and Social Distortion live shows.

COPS KILLING BIKERS!– DENVER – No one will be charged in the deadly shooting and brawl that happened during the Colorado Motorcycle Expo in Denver in January – including the Department of Corrections employee who fired the fatal shot.

One person was killed and eight people were hurt inside the National Western Complex after a fight broke out between members of the Mongols Motorcycle Club and members of the Iron Order on January 30.

Four people were shot, one person was stabbed and three others suffered lesser injuries.

Victor Mendoza, 46, died from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Medical Examiner’s report.

In a statement released Tuesday, Denver Police said shots were fired by Mendoza and Derek Duran, a Department of Corrections employee.

“It was determined that Duran fired a shot first, injuring one person. Within a minute or so of that shot, Mendoza fired at Duran, grazing Duran’s torso and hitting another man behind Duran. Duran immediately fired a shot at Mendoza, killing him,” investigators stated.

“[The] legal review concluded that there is no likelihood of a conviction due to the self-defense claim of Mr. Duran,” police said.

“We have not considered this to be an officer-involved incident at all. Early on, we looked up the state statue that is required and Mr. Duran’s color of authority is only applicable when he is at a facility that he is working… Nor did Mr. Duran anytime during this incident claim he was taking action under his color of authority,” said Commander Ron Saunier with the Denver Police Department. “I do not believe he got any special treatment.”

Police said the lengthy investigation was complicated in part by the large number of eyewitnesses. Attorneys representing both clubs had differing accounts of how the fight happened.

Biker club lawyers tell differing stories of motorcycle expo shooting
Stephen Stubbs, who represents the Mongols, told Denver7 members of the Iron Order instigated the attack after one of them pulled a gun and threatened some of the Mongols. Mendoza, who was part of the Mongols, was eventually shot. Mendoza’s shooting was followed by a large brawl in which there were fistfights, a stabbing and multiple shootings.

John Whitfield, the attorney representing the Iron Order, told Denver7’s Kyle Horan the scuffle began after one of the Mongols said a racial slur to an African American member of the Iron Order. Whitfield added the brawl then took place, and one member of the Iron Order pulled out a gun and started shooting, fearing for his life.

BIKERNET TECH COMING WITH BIKER’S CHOICE—
I spoke to Kent Weeks of Lucky Devil Metal Works about the weather in Houston and my problem with the Crazy Horse engine. We discussed VOES switches and advanced weights.

“Sometimes you need to ground the VOES wire or the ignition won’t advance correctly,” Kent said.

We are in the process of installing a new Vulcan Engineering ignition system (from Biker’s Choice), with Rivera/Primo advance weights, a Twin Power coil and Lithium battery. We will keep you posted.

WORD FROM THE BASE OF THE MOUNTAIN—
GUAN YIN holding a purification vase and willow twig, sprinkles the sweet dew of the Dharma to alleviate the suffering of all sentient beings. This bodhisattva is an embodiment of great compassion and loving kindness to whom we should pay homage and whose spirit we should emulate. The more compassion we have, the less hatred and selfishness there will be, and suffering will be transformed into happiness.

BIKERNET STAFF HONORS THE HERITAGE OF THE TRIKING VIKING, THE SUPREME EDITOR OF BIKERNET TRIKES—
On Nova last night scientists followed Viking writings to a time when a murderous Eric the Red was kicked out of his homeland, of Norway, for murder. He sailed to Greenland in 985, then his son, Leif Eriksson sailed to Canada and farther south in 1000.

Recently they discovered that members of his clan were making nails and Parkerizing them to repair sailing vessels 500 years before Columbus arrived.

Congratulations, oh wise and colorful Triking Viking.

QUICK, New Bikernet Reader Comment!–

Greeting from Kansas, where you had one of the early planning meetings when you were in the National Pres position for ABATE.

I have an ‘86 Heritage that has been up on my lift for 5 years. It has around 260,000 miles on it, and I had the factory re-man rebuild, because of case damage when the lower end decided to let go in 2006. My wife was riding it then. I had a 91 bagger. The factory base gaskets suck. It developed a leak, so I took it down to fix it.

I had some parts on the shelf from an earlier project, Manley oversize valves with springs. So I took the heads in, got them milled. Figured I best do a little more while I had it torn down. I picked up an S & S breather and a Andrews EV 27 cam. Got Wisco pistons while I was at it.

I picked up a new bike after I got a little inheritance money, and got my wife one too. (I got a ‘07 Roadglide, she got a ‘07 Roadking)

Any way, the ‘86 Heritage was now on the back burner.

My wife had health issues so I was tending to her she couldn’t ride anymore. She passed on 25 July 2015.

I am wanting to get the Heritage back on the road. I Just ordered some more parts to get busy and get the bike going: S&S Super E kit with manifold & air cleaner, Crane / S&S Hi-4 multi function single fire coil ignition kit, Accel high flow fuel valve, Hayden M6 Primary chain adjuster, Rivera Primo Pro Clutch, James Gaskets with metal base gaskets, and I’m going back to what I had on this bike in ‘91 after I got home from the Gulf War, Paughco Upsweept Fish Tails, and 16-inch apes. I’m 6-foot 4 inches, so I don’t like the stock height.

I was dicking around on the internet and visited this web site, haven’t been on it for awhile. This article was right on time, like I said, I’m ready to get the ‘86 Heritage going. I’m glad to see most of the choices I’ve made were also recommended in reading this re-build article.

I’ve been riding my RoadGlide all along, but have gotten away from my involvement in motorcyclist rights and laws. I was on the MRF’s BOD as the states rep’s member to the board and then as the director of the State Rep program. I stepped down from that position to become Lobbyist for ABATE of Kansas, my proudest bill was repealing the handlebar height law. We got it passed with no restrictions.

I stepped down from that to take care of my wife when her illnesses progressed but continued to teach MSF Rider Ed classes.

Sorry about writing a novel, I’m just stoked to make time and get back into my shop to work on my bikes. I quit my job to stay home and raise my granddaughter. She’s 10, and I’ve had her for six years.

Thanks for this website, and thanks for what you’ve accomplished in the motorcyclist rights arena!

What an amazing story. I would enjoy working with you on your story for Bikernet. It’s a story more young riders need to hear. A story about devotion to the industry and to Freedom. Think about it. I would love to work with you on it.

Regarding the ’86, Evos are the best. What a kick. Can you send me a shot or two of it for the news.

Back to Bikers Rights: It’s a new world and a new fight. Tough times ahead and we need a new approach. Freedom needs to be a priority.

MSF Classes INVESTIGATION–
I’m not sure what you mean by “licensed”, but the MSF has a pretty tight grip on motorcycle rider training in Alabama.

I have also taken classes given by the R.I.D.E. Motor School and Ride Like a Pro. I will put links to those as well.

R.I.D.E.

Ride Like A Pro

If we ever get a requirement to take a riding test in order to get an “M” endorsement here in Alabama, I feel like the MSF will manage to be the only entity that can administer the test. They also give classes at several Harley Dealerships around the state, which they call the Harley-Davidson Riding Academy.

In the future of my dreams, Dixie ABATE will also teach motorcycle safety classes, or at least put on regular gymkhanas. But we have some growing to do before that can happen.

THE RETURN OF ROGER STONE–
Los Angeles (CNN): Roger Stone loves resilience. It’s why the former body builder had Richard Nixon’s face tattooed on his broad back.

“It’s there to remind me that in life, when things don’t go your way, you get back in the game,” Stone said in an interview with CNN. “Nixon said, ‘A man is not finished when he’s defeated, he’s only finished when he quits.'”

When it comes to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential bid, things did not initially go Stone’s way. He had one vision for the campaign; Trump had another. But after leaving in August, Stone is back, in a manner of speaking. With the Republicans potentially facing a contested convention, his brand of political trench warfare is now in greater demand than ever.

Late last month, Trump appointed veteran GOP strategist and lobbyist Paul Manafort — Stone’s longtime friend and business partner, dating back to the Reagan years — to lead his fight for delegates. Sources close to all three men say Stone played a role in that appointment, which gave him a new lifeline into Trump’s campaign.

Stone also heads “The Committee to Restore America’s Greatness,” a pro-Trump super PAC that has redirected its mission “to help stop the Republican establishment from stealing the Presidential nomination” from Trump — which, of course, will be the campaign’s chief preoccupation between now and the Republican convention in late July.

The campaign changes come as Trump has repeatedly charged that the nominating process is “rigged” to block him, a statement Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus dismissed as “hyperbole” in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union.”

But Stone’s most significant role will likely take place this summer in Cleveland. In a contested convention, his mastery of political dark arts could prove instrumental in securing the delegates that Trump needs. He has been to every Republican convention since 1964, and he’s worked the floor at every convention since 1972. And even he readily admits that he is capable of employing tactics other operatives wouldn’t dream of, let alone try.

While Trump and his campaign can claim no connection with Stone — after all, he left the campaign last August — those who know the two men say that they speak regularly, and that Stone is an influential voice in Trump’s ear.

VINCE GILL, EMMYLOU HARRIS & THE GRAND OLE OPRY TO BE HONORED BY NATIONAL MUSIC COUNCIL AT 33RD ANNUAL AMERICAN EAGLE AWARDS–
The National Music Council will bring its annual American Eagle Awards presentation to Nashville, Tennessee, for a second year in a row on Saturday, June 25, 2016. The highly prestigious Eagle Awards are presented each year in national celebration of an individual’s or an organization’s long term contribution to America’s musical culture and heritage. This year, music legends Emmylou Harris and Vince Gill will be honored, along with the iconic Grand Ole Opry.

Past American Eagle Award recipients include Kris Kristofferson, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Clive Davis, Van Cliburn, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Morton Gould, Dave Brubeck, Marian Anderson, Jim Halsey, Lena Horne, Roy Clark, Elliott Carter, The Oak Ridge Boys, Roberta Peters, Odetta, Sherman Halsey, Stephen Sondheim, Sesame Street, Hard Rock Cafe, Music Makes Us, and VH-1 Save the Music Foundation. This year’s event in Nashville will mark the 33rd year of formal presentations of the Awards.

Emmylou Harris is one of the most admired and respected female vocalists in music history. With 13 Grammy Awards and a trio of CMA trophies, her work has garnered admiration and praise from her peers. Beginning with her 1975 masterpiece Pieces Of The Sky, Harris began to carve out a reputation as one of the genre’s most progressive talents – though one with a clear reverence toward the history of the Country format. She made songs by The Louvin Brothers, Buck Owens, and Hank Snow hits again. She also teamed up with Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt for the iconic Trio album in 1987. Harris was inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1992, and into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008.

Whether it be Country, Rock, Bluegrass, or Gospel, there is no genre of music that Vince Gill hasn’t excelled in during his much-heralded career. Starting out playing in a Bluegrass band called Mountain Smoke when he was a teenager, he later joined Boone Creek – a band fronted by future Country star Ricky Skaggs. He spent three years as lead singer of the Pop / Rock group Pure Prairie League before moving to Nashville in the early 1980s. It took him a few years to find his artistic path, but he hit big in 1990 with “When I Call Your Name.” Future hits included “Liza Jane” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain.” Twenty Grammy Awards later, Gill stands as one of the most revered male artists of all time. He was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1991, and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007.

Musical artists have come from all over the world for a chance to perform on the stage that is the Grand Ole Opry. Starting as the WSM Barn Dance in the fall of 1925, the show has enchanted artists and fans alike ever since. Legends such as Hank Williams and Patsy Cline have dazzled with their talents there, as have modern-day hit-makers like Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley.

It’s been called the “home of American music” and “country’s most famous stage.” Every year, hundreds of thousands of people make pilgrimages across town or around the world to the Grand Ole Opry to see the show live. Millions more tune in to Opry broadcasts via a mobile app, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Nashville’s 650 AM WSM, and on opry.com and wsmonline.com.

The event will also feature the New York Emmy award winning animation created by the NMC and the Music Publishers Association of the United States, as part of a primary school lesson plan that encourages kids to think about the ramifications of taking other people’s creative works without permission.

NMC Director David Sanders frames the animated piece as “part of a world-wide effort by creators to change the narrative in terms of fostering an understanding that the online protection of creative works enhances freedom of speech and the marketplace of ideas, rather than encroaching on them.”

The National Music Council continues to serve as a forum for the free discussion of this country’s national music affairs and challenges. Founded in 1940 to act as a clearinghouse for the joint opinion and decision of its members and to work to strengthen the importance of music in our life and culture, the Council’s initial membership of 13 has grown to almost 50 national music organizations, encompassing every important form of professional and commercial musical activity.

Through the cooperative work of its member organizations, the National Music Council promotes and supports music and music education as an integral part of the curricula in the schools of our nation, and in the lives of its citizens. The Council provides for the exchange of information and coordination of efforts among its member organizations and speaks with one voice for the music community whenever an authoritative expression of opinion is desirable. Proceeds from the event support the Council’s music education advocacy efforts.

The awards will be presented at a 1:00 pm ceremony in the Davidson Ballroom of the Nashville Music City Center as part of the Summer NAMM Show. A VIP luncheon and interview/reception with the honorees will accompany the awards presentation. For tickets, schedule, and sponsorship information, visit musiccouncil.org, or contact NMC Director David Sanders at sandersd@mail.montclair.edu.

SPEAKING OF BLACKED OUT–
It is funny how every guy I deal with thinks the new “blacked out” bikes are something new. They are something someone just recently came up with?

I got news for these guys I had a 1982 FXR that I blacked out in 1983 and my ‘03 Electra Glide STD, is blacked out, I did that in ‘04! So this is nothing new! The more things change, the more they stay the same!

I guess I was ahead of my time????? Ha! ha!

THE HUNT FOR THE BEST CACTUS IN THE DESERT—
We just featured Micah McCloskey’s Road Glide on Bikernet Baggers coupled to his ride from the West Coast to Daytona and Key West and back.

At one point he told me of a terrific cactus shot, but it had power poles in the background. So, he rode 500 miles back out to the desert to capture a better shot or shots. Check these.

TIME WILL TELL AND SHIT WILL SMELL—
It’s an old outlaw adage. I have my doubts about the above report. I’ll wait to see what smells.

We’ve hooked up this week with two Bagger features, and lot’s of action on Bikernet. I’m waiting for the Paughco feature on their very cool Billy Bike Trike from the amazing Triking Viking.

Everyone should take a look at Bill’s monthly report from NCOM. It covers legislative moves all over the world. We need to stay on top of this shit.

El Waggs stopped by today and mentioned a crowd funding effort to create a coffee table book around a friend’s collection. It could be interesting. I know the bikes are. I’m getting to a place to write another Cantina Episode. It takes a special whiskey, late on a cool, very dark night. Hang on.

In the meantime, believe in Freedom and Ride Forever,
