BIKERNET MOST MAGNIFICENT WEEKLY NEWS for October 8th, 2015

Hey,

This is going to be good. There’s so much going on in the Custom Oz, and more than a handful of critical items in the air, but it feels good today. For a moment there’s a calm between storms.

Let’s hit the news. The Bikernet Las Vegas Editor’s Choice award, sponsored by Cycle Source, was picked by Associate Tech Editor Jeremiah Soto between shots of something bizarre. He chose a hard working Zack Conway from Diamonds N Rust. You’ll see the feature shortly. The new Las Vegas Bikefest was a hit! No more Cashman Center in the dust.

The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in Part by Cycle Source Magazine, Motorcycle Riders Foundation, and Iron Trader.

NOS PARTS SCORE OF THE WEEK– Hey, y’all!
If anyone out there is restoring or hot rodding an old car, from the ‘20s to the ‘60s? I discovered a treasure trove of used and new old stock parts. Everything from brand new carbs to used sheet metal and trim stuff, impossible to find radios, engines to bearings, seals, timing gears, and garnish moldings…

Even saw at least three Lincoln V-12 engines. Literally tons of good stuff! I took a few pix, and I’m supposed to do an article for Street Rodder magazine on it soon. It’s in Fresno.

HARLEY RACERS REUNION– As I gathered my cameras up Harley drags the next morning, there was a feeling of nostalgia and a bit of wondering. Nostalgia due to the fact that I’ve been attending the Harley Drags at Little River Dragway/Temple Academy Dragway for 20 + years.

Growing up in Houston, we were lucky to have had two dragstrips, Eastex Dragway on Hwy 59n and Houston International Speedway on 45S. But the Temple track always allowed for catching up with folks I knew from the Army and those I would meet and had met at the track.

This time I wondered whether this might be the last time I make my way to this track. It is currently up for sale, possibly ending a 56-year run?

While I don’t see it being turned into an office park, will it probably be there to continue the memories next year, hard to say.

It was good to see the TF bikes running along with the V/TF twin engine Shovel and a Sporty also, along with a few others in the vintage category and everything else on down to Sportsman. While the number of TF, TG bikes entered has dwindled some and the attendance fallen off, it was still a fine weekend. Heck, who knows, all this BS nostalgia may be for nothing. I guess we’ll see what next year holds?

Till Next Time

NEW DISTRESS BANDANAS
My wife Vivian and I are current members of the Lincoln Land Abate Chapter, Illinois. We have come up with a Product that we have a Design Patent on that everyone can use. The Distress Bandanna is a great fundraiser for chapters and at the same time help a lot of bikers stranded alongside the roadways.

You can see this at our Website www.distressbandanna.com. This is a Distress Bandanna Designed to Signal For Help in an Emergency Situation. Broke Down, MC Accidents, Heath Problems etc… This will get Passerbys Attention real fast.

This is 100% American Made right down to the Last Stitch. It is 27″ X 27″ for Excellent Visibility. This size adds more color and is plenty big enough to wear on your head and hang down to prevent the sun from burning your neck.

The Colored Corner is the Brightest Neon Orange offered in the U.S.A. We get the dye from the Pantone Color Company. It’s Serged around the Whole Edge to keep from Fraying. The Strap on the opposite corner of the Colored end is made to pull through and snug without tying. The Strap was applied with extra strong serging. This Distress Bandanna construction cannot be made any better.

Our Packaging is also very nice for each individual Distress Bandanna.

We have had many Abate Chapters and other MC Chapters on board buying them from us to raise money for their Chapters. They all feel a strong need for it. Automobile Dealerships as well. We are letting a Batch of 20 or more go for $5.00 a piece and then the Abate Chapters sell them back to their members for $10 a pc. We hardly make anything off this. But we are Helping the Abate Chapters Double their money on them. In return we get this New Product Marketed for us for those who buy.

We are here to serve you and Abate and I look forward to hearing back from you.

THE LONE STAR RALLY JOINS FORCES– The Lone Star Rally has joined forces with Mike Ballard from the Full Throttle Saloon and Jesse James of Jackyl to bring “Throttlefest” to Galveston Island November 5-8th.

Located at Beach Central Park, 2100 Sea Wall Blvd. in Galveston Island, TX.

As many of you know, Mike Ballard has just experienced a devastating fire and the ultimate loss of his incredibly popular Full Throttle Saloon in Sturgis, SD, with damages estimated to be in the millions of dollars. While not sure about what the future holds for him or the Full Throttle Saloon, he along with his friend and partner, Jesse James of Jackyl, are coming to the Lone Star Rally to thank all those who have shown such an outpouring of support.

Throttlefest will be his brand of fun and excitement!

JACKYL Playing At:
Friday: 10:00pm to Midnight – BEACH CENTRAL PARK
Saturday: 10:00pm to Midnight – BEACH CENTRAL PARK

It’s been nearly 20 years since Jackyl shot out of Georgia with its wild, untamed and uncouth approach to rock ‘n’ roll. Equal parts hard rock, heavy metal and Southern rock, Jackyl formed in 1991 and brought back rock ‘n’ roll back — back to its down-to-earth, wild, fun-loving origins. Full of spit and swagger — and a “dirty” sense of humor to boot — Jackyl quickly earned a deal with Geffen Records. Jackyl’s live shows were already legendary before the ink dried on the Geffen contract…

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STRANGE WORD OF THE DAY—
Amphigory:

noun
1
. a meaningless or nonsensical piece of writing, especially one intended as a parody.

Quotes
For all this, Schott’s Original Miscellany is strangely unputdownable. It is the mother of all miscellanies, aka an amphigory, a medley, a pot-pourri, a gallimaufry, a salmagundi, an omnium-gatherum, a vade mecum, a smorgasbord… Oh boy, but Schott is a snapper-up of unconsidered trifles, a mad magpie at large in the wide world of facts and words.

Origin
Amphigory entered English in the early 1800s from the French word amphigouri, but its origin in French remains unknown.

NO MATTER THE STATS, GRIMES ALWAYS FAVORED AT THE ROCK–
Top Fuel, Funny Bike, Pro Fuel Titles on the Line at 24th Jim McClure Nitro Nationals

No matter the points, no matter who’s won the previous events, when the AMRA All-Harley Series comes to Rockingham Dragway for the Jim McClure Nitro Nationals, as it will for the 24th time Oct. 16-18, the man to beat for the Top Fuel title is Carolina’s Tommy Grimes.

Astride the “Raleigh Rocket” of Harley Hall-of-Famer Ray Price, Grimes has been the No. 1 qualifier at the fall classic the last four years. Moreover, as the 2013 winner he is the reigning McClure champion insomuch as the race was rained out after the qualifying phase a year ago.

As if that wasn’t enough to establish the Clemmons, N.C., rider as a solid favorite, consider the fact that he is the AMRA national record holder for quarter mile time (6.197 seconds) and speed (227.27 miles per hour) and he set both of those marks at the Rock.

So, while Joey Sternotti of Naples, Fla., will roll into the Carolinas as the point leader with Jake Stordeur of Goshen, Ohio, Larry Stanley of Norton, Ohio, and Jim Doyle of Chicopee, Mass., close behind, they’ll all be focused on Grimes and his dominance at Rockingham.

The last time a Ray Price Top Fuel bike didn’t start No. 1 at Rockingham was 2010 when Takeshi Shigematsu of Ehime, Japan, grabbed the top spot.

In addition to Top Fuel, champions will be crowned in all the other major categories including Nitro Funny Bike, Pro Fuel, Pro Gas and Pro Mod plus a full complement of sportsman classes.

While Grimes will focus strictly on Top Fuel, a number of entrants will have double-up potential including Stordeur, Stanley and Doyle, who also will compete in Funny Bike. Stordeur is the Funny Bike point leader ahead of Rocky Jackson of Youngsville, La., who himself will have a double-up opportunity astride a Pro Fuel Bike.

Jackson, who won Pro Fuel at The Rock in 2013, leads the points in that class but likely will be challenged at the McClure Classic by Dennis Fisher of Dayton, Ohio, Keith Kelly of Dickson, Tenn., and Gary Stroud of Valparaiso, Ind.

The three-day cyclefest, which includes a live band following qualifying on Saturday, begins with a 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. test session on Friday. Saturday qualifying will begin at 10 a.m. and will set the field for single elimination finals starting at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Three-day adult tickets are $45. Combo Saturday-Sunday tickets are $35. Admission at the gate will be $20 for adults with children six and under free when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Parking is free in Rockingham’s main lot.

IRON ORDER MEMBERS JAILED– Retired city officer, 2 others sentenced in motorcycle club fight.

A retired Baltimore police officer and two other men were sentenced in bar fight involving rival motorcycle club.

A Baltimore County judge on Friday sentenced three men — including a retired city police officer — for their involvement in a Dundalk bar brawl involving rival motorcycle clubs.

Eric Jansen and Darrin Shiflett received probation before judgment. Erick Calkins, who prosecutors say started the brawl, received a two-year sentence with all but 60 days suspended. They each pleaded guilty in July to one count of second-degree assault.

Prosecutors said the three men attacked members of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club at Kenny B’s Blue Marlin bar in Dundalk on Feb. 7.

Members of the Iron Order were inside the bar with several women when members of the Iron Horsemen Motorcycle Club entered the building “and immediately began to physically attack the Iron Order members,” according court documents. Police said that several members of the Chosen Sons, including Jansen, the retired Baltimore police officer, arrived and also attacked the Iron Order members, the court documents say.

Police described an ongoing conflict between the motorcycle clubs that included previous attacks on Iron Order members. Surveillance footage showed Jansen pushing a woman out of the way to strike a man, and then punching Tim Kielian twice in the face, according to the court documents.

Kielian, who appeared in court Friday, asked the judge to consider a heftier sentence.

“The point is, there were people in there that night that were doing nothing wrong,” said Kielian, noting that his wife was pushed. “It’s inexcusable.”

A Baltimore police sergeant, David Crites, and another retired city officer, Keith Romans, face charges in a separate fight between rival motorcycle clubs in Essex. Both have been identified by county police as Chosen Sons members and are scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Jansen’s attorney, Warren Alperstein, noted that his client has previously served in the military, retired from the Police Department in September 2014, and most recently worked at IKEA but lost his job because of the charges.

Jansen spoke briefly at the sentencing. “I would like to apologize to the court,” he told Circuit Judge Robert E. Cahill Jr., adding that he wanted to “move on, sir.”

Alperstein said “the court recognized that Mr. Jansen is an upstanding, accomplished individual and that is why the court favorably resolved the case.” He added that Jansen “is eager to move forward.”

Joseph Murtha, who represented Shiflett, called the fight “an isolated incident.” He said after the hearing that his client “worked hard his entire life. Unfortunately, he was present on a day when something happened.”

Calkins’ attorney, Marshall Henslee, asked the judge to consider a lesser sentence for his client, who was injured while serving in Iraq and has an upcoming surgery. Calkins had a cast on his leg and was on crutches when he appeared in court. Prosecutors, however, asked for jail time, saying Calkins initiated the brawl.

Among those attending Friday’s sentencing was a young woman who wore a black sweatshirt that read “Support Your Local Iron Horseman” around a picture of a motorcycle, and who wept when Calkins was sentenced. A man sitting next to her, who wore a T-shirt that read “Wild Rider” beneath a long ponytail, tried to comfort her.

The Iron Order has been involved in all kinds of things. Do you remember the Black Piston member that was killed in Jacksonville by an Iron Order member, who was not charged because he was law enforcement.

Also the Iron Order is the only club to ever be Banned from Easyriders shows.
The list goes on and on.

UNCLE MONKEY ON DREADED FORK SEALS–

We all have that one thing that we just can’t seem to wrap our minds around. For me it was replacing fork seals. I’m a pretty handy guy when it comes to spinning wrenches, so there are few things that I won’t tackle, but unfortunately fork seals proved to be too much for me.

Time after time, I would dive straight into them only to have them leak or even for the complete fork to refuse to come apart. Bolt heads might strip out, and seals leaked even worse than before I started. I eventually threw my hands up in defeat.

For years now I’ve been taking my forks out to be repaired. It’s always been a thorn in my side. I’ve read the books, work side-by-side with master mechanics and watched hours of YouTube videos, but something kept eluding me, just out of my grasp, taunting me.

With a garage full of bikes, all needing fork work, I decided to try once more before loading them up. The first set went like usual with the damper bolts stripping out. But I kept with it determined that this time would be the time. Eventually the fork came apart; eventually the fork went back together, surprisingly easier than other times. I moved on to the next set, and the next set; both of which disassembled and reassembled just like they are supposing too and without any leaks.

We all have those things that trip us up. Sometimes we just need to walk away, or just need to lean on a friend’s shoulder to get us through. I never gave up on myself but just let others do the heavy lifting. Now that I’ve come back to it, it’s no longer an obstacle, no longer a foreboding chore taunting me. I kept with it, kept learning about it and eventually I overcame it—Amazing!

HARLEY-DAVIDSON RECALLS– Soaring To 312,000 In 2015. U.S. government data (NHTA) compiled by The Wall Street Journal show recalls affecting 312,000 motorcycles so far in 2015, 210,000 in 2014 and that compares with an average of 69,000 annually in the 10 years through 2013.

Although Harley-Davidson doesn’t communicate how much these recalls cost the company, for sure they damage the brand’s image. Michelle Kumbier, Harley’s senior vice president in charge of manufacturing and suppliers, said in an interview that the Milwaukee-based company was studying its manufacturing, design, testing and sourcing of supplies to see how future flaws might be avoided.

New technology used on new models tends to increase recalls for all vehicle manufacturers. Harley’s recent defects included a clutch master cylinder, a defective fuel-pump seal, engine coolant leaks, clasp failing to hold saddlebags. Harley-Davidson, Inc. (NYSE:HOG) will release its third-quarter financial results before market hours Oct. 20, 2015

IVEY CALLS GUN BILL ANTI-CRIME (Ivey is Brevard County Sheriff)

TALLAHASSEE — Licensed gun owners would be able to openly carry their weapons in public under a bill approved by the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee on Tuesday.

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz cited federal crime statistics that show that states that allow the open carry of handguns have fewer robberies, murders and violent crime.

“The statements from some of the shrillest voices that oppose the Second Amendment that this will lead to the wild, wild West are unfounded based on any review of the crime data and statistics that are maintained by the Department of Justice,” said Gaetz, R-Shalimar, who is sponsoring the bill (HB 163).

Florida is one of five states that don’t allow people to openly carry guns in some form. The others are South Carolina, New York, Illinois and California.

“I don’t like being in the same league when it comes to gun laws with California, New York and Illinois,” said Eric Friday, a lobbyist for the group rights group Florida Carry. “Open carry provides a deterrent effect on criminals that no other method accomplishes.”

But Orlando resident Shawn Bartelt told lawmakers it would be scary and intimidating to see people walking around openly carrying guns. She said it could also affect tourism.

“I don’t want my kids raised in a world where we’re not being more civilized. We’re being less civilized,” said Bartelt, 61. “Sixty million tourists come to Orlando every year. They’re on I-Drive, doing the I. They don’t want to be walking down I-Drive with a bunch of people with open carry. What does that say about Florida?”

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said the bill is a crime prevention measure, saying people will be unlikely to attack someone they know has a gun.

“We have to not only need to be prepared to protect ourselves with the right to bear arms, but we also have to be able to demonstrate that we are prepared to protect ourselves,” he said.

Democratic Rep. Dave Kerner of Lake Worth, who is a former police officer, said he couldn’t support the bill because it doesn’t require guns to be safely holstered and it doesn’t require gun owners be instructed on how to prevent someone from taking their gun from them during a fight or other situation.

“They can lawfully walk past a bank, past a bar, past a school with a weapon in their hand not encased in a holster. They can have it in their pants exposed without the benefit of a holster. The right to carry a weapon irresponsibly is not a constitutional right,” he said. “To have an open carry policy in the state of Florida with 20 million without even one mention of how to safely retain and protect your weapon is unconscionable.”

Also Tuesday, the Senate Community Affairs Committee unanimously approved a bill that would ban backyard gun ranges and celebratory gunfire on residential neighborhoods with one or more homes per acre.

BAD JUDGE REPORT– Court suspends Brevard judge

County Judge John Murphy may have presided over his last case.

The Florida Supreme Court on Tuesday suspended Murphy immediately without pay and has given him 20 days to show why he should keep his job.

Murphy has been under fire for a 2014 outburst in which he challenged a public defender to a fistfight. The scuffle took place just outside the courtroom, and the audio was captured by recording devices.

The six-member Florida Judicial Qualifications Committee — the panel that oversees judges — had previously slammed Murphy for refusing to take responsibility even during his written response, saying he would accept the panel’s recommended sanctions stemming from the altercation with Assistant Public Defender Andrew Weinstock.

The panel had recommended a four month suspension from the bench, a fine, as well as continued mental-health counseling to deal with anger-management issues. Murphy said he would accept the punishment though he called it “harsh” and said he was “dismayed.” He also continuously referred to Weinstock as a “discredited witness.”

But Tuesday, the Florida Supreme Court, citing the complete record in the case — including Murphy’s refusal to take full responsibility — ordered his immediate suspension and is moving forward to remove him permanently.

“It appears Judge Murphy will be removed unless he can convince the Florida Supreme Court otherwise,” said defense attorney Keith Szachacz. “Funk, Szachacz & Diamond continue to support  Judge Murphy. The incident on June 2, 2014, is a small snapshot that does not accurately reflect the man who has served the citizens of Brevard County and the United States of America honorably. We hope he will continue to serve the citizens of Brevard County and our country.”

Chief Judge John D. Galluzzo said Murphy’s suspension should not cause any significant changes to the day-to-day operations.

CLUB PROFILING EFFORT– The Florida Confederation of Clubs, Florida Coalition of Independent Riders, and the Law Office of Jerry Theophilopoulos has joined with the Motorcycle Profiling Project, and announces the launch of the National Motorcycling Profiling Survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/?sm=nFhBGtZx2K9m3xbn3pkZtA%3d%3d) aimed at collecting data that will assist motorcyclist rights advocates throughout the country by gathering the information that is needed to build an effective argument in the request for legislative relief in protecting all aspects of the motorcyclist’s lifestyle.

Moreover, this survey will provide quantifiable up-to-date data from a national perspective, as well as a state and local perspective. This information will help identify the geographical areas that have a higher propensity of motorcycle profiling and discriminatory acts directed towards bikers. This survey will also help identify the core issues and support legislative relief efforts on a state and national level. We would also like to identify the biker friendly areas and share this information with the communities so they can look into the best practices and what is working, and help build a better social environment for all.

This survey will take about 15 minutes to complete. HOWEVER, it will provide a lifetime of benefits. In its entirety, this survey will run no less than 12 months with quarterly updates published through the sponsors’ websites, the first quarterly update will be released around 1 January 2016. We are seeking cosponsors for the FY2, FY3, and FY4 quarterly update releases.

If you or your organization is interested in cosponsoring this survey, please contact David “Double D” Devereaux at: doubled@motorcycleprofilingproject.com or Bobby “C” Colella at: bfcbobby386@gmail.com
I also attached a snap shot of some of the tentative results.

Please consider posting this on your website and other social media.

WISDOM COMES WITH THE YEARS–
A 72 year old man had one hobby – he loved to fish.

He was sitting in his boat the other day when he heard a voice say, ‘Pick me up.’ he looked around and couldn’t see anyone.

He thought he was dreaming when he heard the voice say
again, ”Pick me up. ‘

He looked in the water and there, floating on the top, was a frog.

The man said, ‘Are you talking to me?’

The frog said, ‘Yes, I’m talking to you. Pick me up, then kiss me; and I’ll turn into the most beautiful woman you have ever seen. I’ll make sure that all your friends are envious and jealous, because I will be your bride!’

The man looked at the frog for a short time, reached over, picked it up carefully and placed it in his shirt pocket.

The frog said, ‘What, are you nuts? Didn’t you hear what I said?’
I said, ‘Kiss me, and I will be your beautiful bride.’

He opened his pocket, looked at the frog and said,

‘Nah. At my age, I’d rather have a talking frog.’

With age – comes wisdom!

THE ESCALATING PRICE OF VINTAGE MOTORCYCLES– Last month, a 1915 Cyclone board-track racer that was once part of Steve McQueen’s collection was sold by Mecum Auctions for $775,000. One data point does not make a trend. But it is true that over the last decade, through the Great Recession and the real estate bust, through the slow economic recovery and wide fluctuations in other assets, the value of vintage motorcycles has steadily risen.

That begs the questions: “What is driving these outrageous prices?” and “How long will it last?”

To start, let’s “go inside the numbers” and see what’s happening at the top auction houses. The folks over at Gizmag have spent hundreds of hours compiling a list of the top 100 most expensive motorcycles ever to sell at auction.

While half or more of valuable vintage bikes still change hands privately, auction results give us a good look at the cream of the crop, when it comes to vintage motorcycles. The first thing you’ll notice (besides all the Crockers and Brough Superiors), is that all the entries, save one, are from 2006 onward. A deeper investigation yields an upward trend in average sale price starting in 2006 and continuing on through 2014. Obviously, there is not yet much information from 2015, but considering that Jerry Lee Lewis’ 1959 Harley-Davidson just sold for $385,000, I think it’s safe to say the trend is continuing.

While Gizmag’s list represents the upper echelon of motorcycles, price increases have also trickled down to the more modest machines you can find on eBay or Craigslist. It’s not uncommon to find asking prices of $60,000 for Knuckleheads, which were selling for a mere $40,000 in recent memory.

Every Crocker motorcycle was built to order and guaranteed to be faster than a Harley-Davidson or Indian. Examples have sold at auction for $350,000.

What is fueling this upward trend in prices? One factor is the age distribution in this country. More than 25 percent of the population is over the age of 55. Not all of those people are doing well, but a significant number have probably paid off their homes, put their kids through school and now have a big chunk of disposable income burning a hole in their pockets.

Add to that our society’s fixation on “buying back your childhood,” and things begin to get clearer. Ever since the first Chewbacca figure was purchased on eBay, Americans have been paying exorbitant prices for those things they wanted when they were kids. With a quarter of the population growing up during the heyday of vintage motorcycles, it’s no wonder that old bikes are getting snapped up and money seems to be no object.

At auctions or swap meets, vintage motorcycles are selling for impressive prices.

Add to this the mass adoption of online auction sites, like eBay, and now every motorcycle and every part that you ever wanted is just a few mouse clicks away. Gone are the days of hunting the want ads or searching old barns for bikes. The internet brings it all right into your living room and you don’t even have to get your hands dirty.

eBay has also opened the U.S. motorcycle market to the entire world, so we are no longer just haggling with other Americans, but also with Europeans and Asians who have an appetite for vintage Americana.

A few years ago, when the U.S. dollar was not as strong as it is today, I met a fellow from Australia who was traveling the United States by motorcycle. He wound up buying a vintage car and a vintage motorcycle, which he shipped back to Australia for less than he could have bought either back home. If you think this is an isolated case, take note next time you are at a major rally. It’s not too hard to pick out the foreign buyers scooping up machines to ship back across the ocean.

The last bit of pressure on the vintage motorcycle market comes from something I wholeheartedly support, which is actually riding your vintage motorcycle. Events like the Kickstart Classic and the Motorcycle Cannonball Run are inspiring more people to get out and ride their old bikes, and that inspires others to buy a vintage bike and join in. Not to mention that all this riding means more breakdowns and the need for replacement parts, which drives up the prices of all those old parts that have been collecting dust on shelves for the last 50 years.

MUSEUM HAS NEW LEAD IN HUNT FOR JAMES DEAN’S WRECKED PORSCHE– VOLO, Ill. (WLS) — The Volo Auto Museum says it has a credible tip regarding the whereabouts of James Dean’s Porsche Spyder wreckage, missing since the early 1960s.

Dean died on Sept. 30, 1955, after crashing his car. The wrecked Porsche toured nationally as a highway safety exhibit after the actor’s death, only to go missing while being transported from Florida to California.

This photo is widely believed to be one of the last taken, within hours of actor James Dean’s death while driving the Porsche on Sept. 30, 1955. (Volo Auto Museum)

Long rumored to be cursed, the Auto Museum made a reward offering of $1 million for the wreckage in 2005. Following an episode of “Brad Meltzer’s Lost History” that aired in winter 2014, the museum says, they were contacted by a man in the spring with an intriguing tale.

“He said he was 6 years old at the time, and was present as his father and some other men put the wreckage behind a false wall in a building in Whatcom County, Washington,” said Brian Grams, director of the Volo Auto Museum.

Grams said the man also recounted some conversational details that supported his claim and offered to take, and passed, a polygraph test.

Grams said the man has declined to reveal the building’s location until he has signed a deal for a portion of the reward and the museum will pay only if it gains legal possession of the car, whose current ownership is in question, but communications are still ongoing.

“This guy’s story is awesome, and our most believable lead to date,” Grams said. “It’s kind of like Al Capone’s vault. If it is in there, it continues the legend of this car’s notorious history.”

October 17th Celebration to include a large-scale
assembly day and press conference
Since November 2013, Operation Gratitude has been based at the National Guard Armory in Van Nuys. With your tremendous support, especially the last few years, we have outgrown this facility and now have big plans ahead of us! But before we move, Operation Gratitude requests the honor of your presence at the final weekend Assembly Day at the Van Nuys Armory on Saturday, October 17th from 9am to 3pm.

This memorable day will offer our usual array of volunteer opportunities: Assembling care packages, creating paracord survival bracelets, screening thousands of handwritten letters from children around the nation, sorting donated items and much more!

During our formal program, currently scheduled for 11:00 am, we will host a press conference to announce our future plans. Special guests, dignitaries, members of the media and our volunteers are invited.

Also in attendance will be members of the California National Guard leadership. Over the last 12 years, the National Guard has graciously donated the use of the Armory for our volunteers to receive, assemble and ship 1,291,143 care packages to deployed troops, veterans, new recruits, first responders, wounded warriors and military families. Please join us to thank the National Guard for their hospitality and generosity.

We are thrilled to share with you our immediate and future plans for Operation Gratitude and know that you will be delighted about them as well!

We look forward to celebrating with you on October 17th! Thank you for your dedication to our military!

Walker’s coaching style is like no other, discovering first the unique talents of leaders, then creating a strategic plan to help them meet their goals in ways that feel natural. In Invent Your Future – Start With Your Calling, twenty successful business leaders provide various anecdotes which illustrate Walker’s practices that when we recognize our natural abilities, our actions come from our calling.

Among the lessons learned in his book, Walker details strategies to:

• Discover your calling and the answers that are key to your future.

I own a H-D 2004 Softail standard, with a 240 tail kit from Performance Machine.

I have no fender struts on it, and I also wood like a bag support.

I read this article, and wonder where I can buy the fender struts and the bag seat/bag support system. Price and shipping cost would help.

BIKERNET BAD JOKE LIBRARY STILL OPEN– Oh Boy!

A man and a woman were having a quiet, romantic dinner in a fine restaurant. They were gazing lovingly at each other and holding hands
The waitress, taking another order at a table a few steps away, suddenly noticed the woman slowly sliding down her chair and under the
table – but the man stared straight ahead.

The waitress watched as the woman slid all the way down her chair and out of sight under the table. Still, the man stared straight ahead.

The waitress, thinking this behavior a bit risqué and worried that it might offend other diners, went over to the table and tactfully said to the man, “Pardon me, sir, but I think your wife just slid under the table.”

The man looked up calmly and said, “No, she didn’t. She just walked in.”

THE THIRD AMENDMENT EXPLAINED– I am sure some of you know what the 3rd Amendment is all about. In any event, you may want to review it. This is a great explanation. Listen to the dummy who is not so dumb at all. Maybe all the anti-gun advocates should be more aware of the 3rd amendment.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ECONOMIC SEMINAR ON Globalization– A definition of globalization that I can understand and to which I now can relate:

Question:
What is the truest definition of Globalization?

Answer :
Princess
Diana’s
death.

Question:
How come?

Answer :

An English Princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a French tunnel, riding in a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on Scottish whisky, (check the bottle before you change the spelling), followed closely by Italian Paparazzi, on Japanese motorcycles, Treated by an American doctor, using Brazilian medicines. This is sent to you by a Canadian, using American Bill Gates’ technology, and you’re probably reading this on your computer, that uses Taiwanese chips, and a Korean monitor, assembled by Bangladeshi workers in a Singapore plant, transported by Indian truck drivers, hijacked by Indonesians, unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen, and trucked to you by Mexicans who are in the US illegally.

That, my friends is Globalization !

NEW FROM AUSTRALIA– Hydraulically Slam your Softail.

Softails give their owners the best of both worlds…the look of a hardtail but the comfort and ride of a bike with suspension. Most agree that a lowered “Slammed down” Softail looks best but is it worth sacrificing the ride quality? Well, thanks to Ken Rutherford and his all new Slamtail, Softail owners no longer have to choose between the look and function.

Designed to reuse the OEM spring and shock units and maintain the stock ride quality the Slamtail uses hydraulically powered rams to raise and lower the bikes rear suspension. A simple remote key fob moves the bike from the stock ride height to slammed down in a matter of seconds and actually standing by the bike and watching it go through the travel looks impressive to say the least. The whole system is neatly packaged under the bike and is protected from the elements and road grim by a zinc plated powder coated steel plate.

Every part of this lowering kit is made from high quality aerospace spec steel and aluminum alloys. In addition the rear wheel and gas tank do not have to be removed for installation and it is virtually invisible when installed. The Slamtail will fit all Twin Cam Powered Softails.

In short the Slamtail has impressive packaging, quality, operation and ease of installation. What more do you want from a system that makes your Softail look better and still ride like a stock bike.

Features Include:
*High quality
*Unique design
*Hydraulic operation
*Easy to fit, can be removed and re-installed on another bike, revert to original.
*Uses the OEM spring and shock unit, better value
*Retains the OEM ride quality at any height.
*Never leaks, designed by former Formula 1 Design Engineer
*Remote control and backup on-board toggle switch
*Quiet linear operation, raising or lowering, stop the bike at ANY HEIGHT, and ride, or park.
*Virtually invisible from the outside, integrates with the Softail look!

CAMERON STEELE LOVES BAJA– Only on the Dave Despain Show, Sunday, October 11, at 8:30pm ET

Cameron Steele – Show Preview

Few people know the harsh, rugged terrain of Baja, California better than Cameron “PAB” Steele, and fewer still race so well in a 800 horsepower Trophy Truck. This Sunday, October 11 at 8:30pm ET, Steele talks with Dave Despain as both a MAVTV on-air colleague and as someone who loves the beauty and challenges of the desert. He discusses both his triumphs and tragedies in life and racing, including the SCORE Baja series and short course Pro Buggies in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series.

Cameron Steele is a veteran off-road racer, a television personality, and entrepreneur. With over 25 years of driving experience, he has ridden professionally on Pro Bikes, Pro Buggies, and Trophy Trucks. Steele holds over 25 major class wins including the Baja 1000. He is a 3-time Parker winner, 4-time Mint Winner 400, 2010 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Pro Buggy Champion, and a two-time SCORE Person of the Year. After finishing 3rd last year, his remaining goal is to win the Baja 1000 overall.

Steele explains what he loves about the Baja desert: “It’s a society of people that are working hard and appreciate everything that they have. I had to trick my wife into it originally, but once she started going and racing and being a part of it, she totally got it, so now we’re both hooked on it.” He recalls, “I’ve had some of my greatest moments and most horrific tragedies on the peninsula, so it’s a beautiful, magical place for me.”

He and his wife Heidi Steele both own and race for their team, the Desert Assassins.

Steele has served as a TV commentator and announcer for over 15 years, including the X Games, the Indy 500, Running of the Bulls for ESPN, Super Bowl Sunday, and New Years No Limits. He is a familiar face on many networks including MAVTV, NBC, ABC, ESPN, CBS, FOX, MTV, Discovery and Fuel, covering the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, Indy Racing League as a pit reporter, Supercross, Champ Car, and Endurocross. A native of San Clemente, California, Steele grew up in a racing family. His dad Mark, a 2-time Baja 1000 winner, introduced him to Baja at age 3.

GOALS— I’m a good one for goals. No, I’m not starting a motorcycle company. Goals can be: Paint the kitchen, tune the FXR, finish an article, and such. One of my goals this year is to finish my next Chance book. I get damn close then stumble.

It may be my last fiction book, but it needs to be my best, so I’m working it. I was going to slip into the San Jacinto mountains and hide out in Idyllwild for four days in a cabin this weekend, but we are also building a deck outside the headquarters and the bros from Vegas are hammering away, while the redhead of redheads coats the bare metal frame. So, the cabin trick is out for another weekend.

In the meantime, after just a couple of years, we are going to bring you this feature from Todd’s Cycle. He moved to Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands and life is slower surrounded by the sea and rain forests.

I’m also working on trying to improve our ghetto community. I had a notion about brick work facades to improve the buildings, so I went to visit a Hamster, Urban, who is a nut for Brickwork. I’ll post some shots on Sunday.

In the next couple of weeks we will finish our Custom Cycle Engineering tech and will bring Cantina members an interesting Paul Garson, piece on Henderson history.

Hang on, and never give up on those goals.

Ride Free Forever,

–Bandit
