V-TWIN SHOW REPORTS THURSDAY NEWS FOR FEB 13, 2014

Hey,

Here’s Doc Robinson’s report on the Easyriders V-Twin show for Cincinnati 2014:
The V-Twin Expo is shrinking and dying. That is an opinion I have heard expressed a number of times by people in the industry in the weeks leading up to this event. Well, as Mark Twain once said, “Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated” and that certainly applies to this event. Why? Well take the fact that out of 187 vendors, a whopping 40 were there for the first time!

Despite the severe winter weather conditions blanketing out much of the upper US at the time, overall attendance at the Expo seemed reasonable. In these tougher economic times the dealers who invest both the time and money to attend are there for a purpose, seeking out further knowledge and product to enhance their bottom line. Seeing new products up close, talking with their developers, bonding relationships and taking advantage of various specials available by ordering at the Expo, make a compelling package.

Add to that the series of high-powered seminars that were presented by Daytona Twin Tec, Power Vision, ThunderMax, TechnoResearch, Baker Drivetrain, S&S Cycle and the new and exciting Viola V-Twin, a branch of S&S set up to service the older bike market.

While the Expo has indeed shrunk somewhat in size over the past few years, mainly due to the economy, many of the major players in the aftermarket V-Twin industry still had a presence.

Most importantly, the ones with whom I spoke on Sunday afternoon, were positive about the event and overall seemed happy and stated they would be back again next year. Their responses seemed genuine and I didn’t detect any of that “whistling in the dark” kind of bravado that I think has been expressed over the past couple of years at the Expo.

In the decade that I have been attending this event, I have experienced both the boom years in the middle of the first decade of this century through to the reduced event of the past coupe of years. But I truly think it is on its way back up, and definitely deserves to be supported by the entire V-Twin aftermarket industry.

That said let’s take a look at one major aspect of the event. That is the fact that baggers are still king! Yes, especially big wheel baggers. Who knows how long this phase, craze or even – as some people call it “insanity” – will go on for? Who indeed! However, there is no doubt that many of them are stunning works of mechanical modification and styling. Exaggerated in many cases, yes? But envelopes are meant to be pushed; that’s the reason the human race has progressed and we no longer live in caves and dress in animal skins.

Overall, I certainly found it a worthwhile event to attend and plan to be back next year.

HELMET BILLS REVS UP NEBRASKA DEBATE– A bill that would let motorcyclists ride without helmets in Nebraska has reached the full Legislature, but supporters will have to overcome a filibuster for it to pass.

Lawmakers began debate Thursday on a measure to partially repeal Nebraska’s helmet requirement for motorcyclists, exempting riders older than 21. The measure’s author, Sen. Dave Bloomfield of Hoskins, said he views helmets as an issue of freedom and personal choice.

The Declaration of Independence says life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” he said. “Not conformity, control and a safe cocoon.
Opponents promised an eight-hour filibuster on the bill _ the maximum time allowed _ saying the helmet law saves lives while reducing insurance and Medicaid costs. Lawmakers adjourned for the day before voting, and could resume debate on Friday.

Sen. Steve Lathrop of Omaha said the 24-year-old helmet law has helped Nebraska prevent needless deaths and brain injuries.

It would be inappropriate, in my judgment, to step back and allow our roads to become a place of greater carnage, filling up our emergency rooms with the brain injured who then go to the rehab hospitals in our state.

Opponents have tried for decades to repeal the helmet law, and this time they hope to find enough votes among the senators who were elected in 2012 because of term limits. The closest they came was in 2010, when supporters secured a 27-vote majority but failed to hit the 33 needed to end a filibuster.

Opponents of the helmet requirement argue that the state is losing tax revenue and tourism because riders often bypass the state. Motorcyclists testified in a committee hearing last year that many riders avoid Nebraska because it requires helmets, while all of its border states except for Missouri do not.

Medical and traffic-safety groups remain opposed to the bill, saying Nebraska already lacks services for residents with brain injuries, and eliminating the helmet requirement would only worsen the problem.

A MEMO FROM THE BIKERNET LAW FIRM OF BANDIT, RENEGADE, AND SNAKE– A young Law student, having failed his Law exam, goes up to his crusty old professor, who is renowned for his razor-sharp legal mind.

Student: “Sir, do you really understand everything about this subject?”

Professor: “Actually, I probably do. Otherwise I wouldn’t be a professor, would I?”

Student: “OK. So I’d like to ask you a question. If you can give me the correct answer, I will accept my marks as it is. If you can’t give me the correct answer, however, you’ll have to give me an “A”.

Professor: “Hmmmm, alright. So what’s the question?”

Student: “What is legal but not logical, logical but not legal, and neither logical nor legal?”

The professor wracks his famous brain, but just can’t crack the answer. Finally he gives up and changes the student’s failing mark into an “A” as agreed, and the student goes away, very pleased.

The professor continues to wrack his brain over the question all afternoon, but still can’t get the answer. So finally he calls in a group of his brightest students and tells them he has a really, really tough question to answer: “What is legal but not logical, logical but not legal, and neither logical nor legal?”

To the professor’s surprise (and embarrassment), all the students immediately raise their hands.

“All right,” says the professor and asks his favorite student to answer.

“It’s quite easy, sir,” says the student. “You see, you are 75 years old and married to a 30 year old woman, which is legal, but not logical. Your wife has a 22 year old lover, which is logical, but not legal. And your wife’s lover failed his exam but you’ve just given him an “A”, which is neither legal, nor logical.”

COMMENT FROM BIKERNET FEATURE BIKE OWNER–Richard, you and Bandit gave me something better than any gift. Recognition for my type of creativity. I know my type of bike isn’t for everyone, and that’s exactly why it is what it is.

UNCLE MONKEY ON SPINNING WRENCHES–Spinning wrenches on bikes is therapy right up there with rolling on the miles across this great country. We all like to tinker with our bikes making them faster, making them prettier, making sure everything is as perfect as possible.

The previous owner assured Mrs. Monkey the HondaMatic had spent the last ten years under a cover in a shed, but it obviously spent the majority of its life out in the elements. It is rare to find a 34- year-old-bike in pristine conditions, but there is a diffident difference between inside and out, a bike that is ridden and one that has been sitting in a barn.

With the Kawi off the lift sporting a couple new oil seals it was the HondaMatic’s turn on the bench. Most of the dirt and grime were easily wiped away, but that’s where the fun starts, the satisfaction of taking a neglected bike that hasn’t been ridden in years and bringing it back to the road. Chrome was cleaned and polished, cables oiled and lubed.

Satisfaction in the little things like freeing up the stiff “Parking Brake” lever. It’s not a big job, not really time consuming but something that just screams to be handled. I busy myself cleaning up the controls, getting everything working properly and smoothly. After a couple hours and some elbow grease and it doesn’t look like the same bike, doesn’t feel like the same bike.

There is joy working on a new project, happiness reworking someone’s old bike or building a bike from scratch, but there is uniqueness to resurrecting the forgotten, returning a bike to the road. I’m not going to do a full concourse restoration. I’m not going to trick it out into a chopper, bobber, or cafe racer, just put it back on the road where it belongs.

‘CLASS OF 2014 V-TWIN SHOW’ – this year saw the 9th annual AMD industry photo at the V-Twin Expo in a year which may well prove to be a turning point in the fortunes of this important feature of our industry.

Congratulations to everybody at Easyriders Events and Reaction Management (their show contractor) for delivery of this year’s 13th annual V-Twin Expo at Cincinnati, Ohio, on February 8th and 9th.
Trying to generalize about the outcomes of any industry expo is also an invidious task, but based on a balanced assessment of the several dozen exhibitor perspectives that we here at AMD Magazine garnered, the consensus view is that the show worked, worked well, and that there’s no reason why it cannot continue to do so in the future.

The hall did stay reasonably busy longer into the afternoon than has been the case, with the majority of the exhibitors that we spoke with reporting good numbers of above all quality meetings with dealers who are genuinely in a position to make buying decisions.

One big concern had been what would happen on the Sunday. The experience last year, which was the first time that the V-Twin Expo had been cut down to two days following the abandonment of the Monday half-day, had vendors and organizers nervous.

Well, the good news is that the second initiative taken by Easyriders Events in recent years, namely to move the show back by a week in order to avoid a clash with the NFL Superbowl, appeared to have worked.

The aisles were noticeably busier, certainly until the early afternoon, than had been the case on the Sunday last year, and there were, no question, some Sunday-specific visitors… it wasn’t only dealers who had stayed over.

Either way, while it was punishingly cold in Cincinnati for the show this year (no surprise there!), the expected snow storms didn’t materialize, and if there is scepticism about the effects of winter in the Midwest on powersports industry shows, then I should imagine that the organization currently hoping to reinvent its failed ‘Indy’ in Chicago in December have way more to worry about than Jim Betlach and his team!

Watch out for more show news and new product reports in upcoming editions of AMD Magazine – and remember that you can find an archive of all editions at www.amdmag.com

CAMPAIGN REVS UP ON MOTORCYCLE SAFETY–  Jason Geiger, 42, rides his motorcycle from Riverside to work in Buena Park. He said a CHP-approved safety course heightened his awareness of what to watch for.

Geiger just wishes drivers were more attentive. He sees them illegally holding cellphones to their ears every day.

One such driver changed the life of former Riverside resident Scott Shepherd, 49.
In 2010, Shepherd had fixed a flat tire on a pregnant woman’s car on Highway 91 near Serfas Club Drive. As he eased his motorcycle into the slow lane, a driver talking on her cellphone merged from the left lane to the offramp, striking him.
The impact threw Shepherd 30 feet. He still has three metal rods in his back and has difficulty bending and lifting.

One person’s irresponsibility could have a long-term effect on someone else’s life,” Shepherd said.

SAFETY TIPS FOR MOTORCYCLE RIDERS

1. Ride within your skill level. Without practice, you might not be able to do maneuvers your friends can, or your motorcycle might be more powerful than you can handle.

2. Wear proper clothing.

3. Practice defensive riding. Don’t assume other vehicles can see you. Aggressive riding, including going far faster than slowed traffic while lane splitting, can be dangerous.

4. Take a DMV-approved riding course. “It’s huge. It teaches you a lot of awareness of what to look for,” says Riverside resident Jason Geiger.

5. Brake evenly. About 75 percent of braking power comes from the front brake. Squeeze the front brake progressively and use the rear brake as well, says Jim Bridges, of Riverside Harley-Davidson.

FOR CAR DRIVERS

1. Avoid distractions that could cause you to not see motorcyclists. “My No. 1 advice for four-wheel drivers is to stay off of cellphones and pay attention to their surroundings,” former Riverside resident Scott Shepherd said.

2. Double check for motorcyclists. A bike can easily be hidden in a car’s blind spot. In addition to looking at mirrors, turn your head and look.

3. Don’t follow too closely. Motorcyclists often slow by downshifting or merely rolling off the throttle, thus not activating their brake light.

4. Don’t expect a motorcycle to dodge you. Maneuverability is one of a motorcycle’s better characteristics, but not at faster speeds or in poor weather conditions.

5. Assume a motorcycle is closer than it appears. Because of its small size, a motorcycle may look farther away than it is. It may also be difficult to judge a motorcycle’s speed.

HOW TO FIGHT MOTORCYCLE BANS FROM THE AMA—This is from Imre Szauter, AMA government affairs manager. He says, “While private property access is more difficult to secure, in the case of public property, such as Jackson Square or the French Quarter, more can be done to preserve riding freedoms. Here are his tips:

Find out exactly what form the rule takes, whether it’s a covenant, deed, restriction, bylaw or regulation. Then find out specifically what it takes to change it.

Educate fellow homeowners about the rule. Explain to them that it’s unfair to ban motorcycles. Tell them how the restriction effects you. Find out if other bikers live in the area.

Work to alleviate any legitimate issues. If the bike ban is prompted by concerns about noise, propose a uniform vehicle sound rule to replace the motorcycle ban.

Consider contacting the media to focus attention on the problem.

Run for the community association board and encourage other bikers to join in. Don’t try to run as a one-issue candidate. You want to be in favor of the greater well-being of the community.

If you can’t make progress any other way, consider consulting a lawyer. They can sometimes uncover legal precedents for striking dow discriminatory rules. They may vary from state to state, but can give you ammo for negotiating.

HUNDREDS PROTEST QUEENSLAND’S ANTI-BIKER LAWS–Hundreds protest against the Newman government’s anti-biker/anti-association legislation.

The crowd, estimated to be about 600-strong, gathered in Brisbane’s King George Square on Tuesday evening, prior to marching on State Parliament.

Waving banners describing the LNP as the “Liberal Nazi Police”, the crowd cheered the speakers
loudly despite ongoing problems with the public announcement system.

Australian Council for Civil Liberties president Terry O’Gorman and long-term Aboriginal activist Sam Watson reflected on their struggles under the corrupt Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen’s government and warned Queensland was headed back to those days.

Mr O’Gorman took special aim at Queensland Premier Campbell Newman and Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie.

“This boy Attorney-General, this ex-conveyancer who is now making our laws, tells the judges – and they have absolutely no power to mitigate this – says to the judge ‘yeah you’re going to fine that biker for being in possession of drugs, but because he’s a biker you must send him to jail for a minimum of 15 years” he said.

“How obscene and how draconian is that”

Mr O’Gorman also warned the Vicious Lawless Association Disestablishment legislation, passed by the Newman government last year, could be applied to people other than bikers.

“So for those who listen to the Premier’s pronouncements on television, very reminiscent of Joh ‘don’t you worry about that, it’s only about bikers’, well let me make it quite clear to you – Assistant [Police] Commissioner Brett Pointing, who’s in charge of these laws, made it clear, these laws apply to everyone,” he said.

When Mr O’Gorman said motorcycle club office bearers were up for a mandatory 25 years, it drew a retort from the crowd.

“A paedophile gets less,” shouted one interjector.

“It’s not just about bikers, it does not apply to just bikers,” said Mr O’Gorman, a defence lawyer.

“But how absurd is it that bikers cannot be present at this political gathering? The very people that are subject to this obscenely draconian legislation.

“If more than three of them are present at this protest rally, they get arrested and serve a minimum of six months in jail. How obscenely draconian and extreme that is.”

Mr Watson said the current political climate reminded him of the Joh era, in which he took part in many protests.

“We kept mobilised back then and that’s what needs to happen here,” he said.

“We’re a bit greyer and a bit broader in the bellies, but we’ve still got the fire.”

In what may be a first for Mr Watson, he was cheered on by protesters waving American Confederate flags.

One of those protesters, Bruce Thomas, said the flag was a nod to the Rebels motorcycle club.

Mr Thomas said although he was not a member of the club, he was a lifelong friend of several members and had attended functions at a Rebels club house.

“If they came here [to the protest], they would be arrested because there would be more than three in a public place,” he said.

“I can’t associate with them, I can’t say ‘hi’, I can’t go see them, because it puts them in jeopardy.

“And because I’ve known them so long, I can be classed as an associate. It’s just draconian.”

The protest, which was organized by the Queensland Civil Liberties Network, also attracted unions, Aboriginal activists and non-club bikers.
The Electrical Trades Union and the Maritime Union of Australia, which were recently accused by Newman to be partially funding the bikers’ High Court challenge to the legislation were also represented.

Badlands President, Dan Lewis, felt that NAMZ would be able to take his company to a higher level of operational excellence, improve distribution and increase productivity. “They are the best at what they do and the synergies between our companies make this deal a no brainer for NAMZ and the future of Badlands,” said Dan.

NAMZ will close down the Badlands location in Sparks, Nevada, and move all operations to its suburban Philadelphia facility. “We will produce the same quality Badlands modules as they have been for the last 23 years while continuing to develop new and innovating products into the future”.

ROYAL ENFIELD UNVEILS A BOLD PRICING STRATEGY– Exciting news for all Royal Enfield enthusiasts and riders here in the U.S. In a recent move to reposition the brand, Royal Enfield has dropped its retail pricing dramatically, shifting up its efforts to lead the mid-size motorcycle market.

With increasing global demand and a new state-of-the-art factory, Royal Enfield has set its sights on becoming a worldwide leader in the growing midsize motorcycle market. (250cc-750cc)

Siddartha Lal, the CEO and owner of Royal Enfield, kicked off the campaign by setting the tone immediately with the MSRP of the new 535cc Continental GT Café racer at only $5,999, much lower than industry observers expected.

Kevin Mahoney, the CEO of Classic Motorworks (the exclusive US importer of Royal Enfield), stated lowering the MSRP prices on the rest of the product line naturally followed suit from Siddartha Lal’s vision for the GT and the brand positioning overall.

“We have always been a unique high value brand. Our high volumes (over 250,000 units will be sold globally in 2014) and increased efficiency allow us to make this aggressive move. We have lowered the MSRP on some of our products by almost $1,400.

The suggested retail price range of the product line now starts at $4,999 and tops out at $5,999 for the new 535cc Continental GT.

This effort in repositioning Royal Enfield as a brand will not only put more bikes on the road, but simultaneously gain more of the market share here in the U.S. We are thinking long-term with this move and feel the timing and the opportunity to grow even more will ensure success for Royal Enfield in the U.S.”

Voxan’s 200-Horsepower WATTMAN Electric Motorcycle–Trumpeted by Voxan as being “the most powerful electric motorcycle in the world,” the company’s new model, known as the WATTMAN, certainly has a lot to live up to. Given the specs, though (listed below), it certainly appears to have an arguable claim to the title.

For those unfamiliar with Voxan, the French motorcycle manufacturer has been releasing high-end bikes since back in 1999. It released a number of notable models up until 2009, when it was forced into liquidation, before then being acquired by Venturi Automobiles. The WATTMAN is the first model to be released since being acquired by the new owners.

The WATTMAN, powered by the first Voxan-designed electric motor, possesses an impressive 200 HP with 200 Nm instant torque up to 10,500 rpm. The bike accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62.137 mph) in just 3.4 seconds, and possesses a top speed of 170 km/h (106 mph). The range is impressive as well, possessing the capability of traveling as far as 180 km (112 miles) on a single charge.

And recharging doesn’t seem to be much of an issue — an 80% recharge can be achieved in less than half an hour! with the aid of the COMBO II European quick-charge standard.

What do you think?

MEMO LEFT AT THE BIKERNET HOME–To the guy doing my wife. You know who you are. Yes I know. No I am not angry; I would just ask a few things of you. After all you are giving it to my wife.

1. Please stop leaving the seat up, I keep getting blamed and it is starting to get old.

2. You may be giving me a chance to go fishing more often but please stop drinking all my beer. It is fine if you have a couple while you visit (god knows I drink plenty before I find her attractive), but please leave me a few as I have to be there longer than you.

3. If you do drink the last one buy more or leave money on the counter I will pick some up.

4. Please replace the toilet paper when you use it all. For some reason my 5-year-old son believes if its not there he does not have to wipe. We keep it under the sink, unless you can recommend a better spot?

5. After doing my wife please use something disposable to wipe off with. The basket of clothes on the right is mine and the clothes are clean as my wife does not do my washing, I run out of time rushing to work. Last week my sweatshirt was crusty (thanks).

6. Please do not tell my children that you are their uncle, they are young not
mentally challenged.

7. Please stop turning the heat up, you pay nothing and MUD is putting it in my ass, my wife may like it but I think it hurts.

8. When she asks “do these pants make me look fat”, say no. You may think giving a different answer will make her think twice about eating a gallon of ice cream a day but all you are doing is giving her a reason to go buy more pants that she will look just as fat in.

9. Stop eating the baked goods. The brownies you ate were from my mom for my birthday. My wife has not cooked anything that good for years and if she does she will not share.

10. Try shifting your weight when you sit on my chair. The recliner that I rarely have time for (soccer games and practice, basketball camp for the kids takes much of my time and I try to help with school work too) has a grove in it that forces me to roll to the left.

Lastly I would like thank you for taking her to lunch on Valentines Day. She was not as hungry as usual and only ordered one meal. I may be able to use the money I saved to take the children to a movie. I hope you can help me with these items, it may become awkward if I have to confront her. If you can do this for me I will give you a heads up on when I will be gone and for how long so that you don’t feel rushed.

P.S. I am going to take the kids to the Sunset State Beach Camping on the 26th of September for two days; I have a bottle of vodka above the fridge if you find yourself low on beer.

Thanks. This was not written by anyone named [deleted].

NEW SPONSOR FOR THE BREW DUDE–Waterbury, Connecticut – Fowlers Distribution is very proud to announce our newest industry partner as we have come to an agreement to sponsor Steve Garn at Brew Bikes.

Steve is an industry associate of Joe Distefano, Fowlers Distribution marketing and sales consultant, and has set up this deal for us.

“Though it is not a huge sponsorship, we know as we are all family people and family owned businesses, every little bit helps. The company director, Sasha Fowlers was instant in her support of the program. In fact, we will go a step further to assist in the marketing of Brew Bikes and the racing and bike show competition efforts throughout the year via the resourse of Pro Riders Marketing.” Said Joe Distefano.

In a statement from Steve “Brewdude” Garn, he says “As we prepare for the 2014 motorcycle shows and East Coast Timing Association’s (ECTA) race season at the Ohio Mile, we thank you so much for your support.

In 2012, BREW had a GREAT year! The Honda CB350, named 9605, tied for 1st place in the Performance Class at the World Championship Show of Bike Building in Sturgis. After a tie-breaker, 9605 received 2nd place, losing to four-time World Champion Aft Customs. Next, the bike 9605 received Editor’s Choice from Cycle Source Magazine. Over the years BREW now has over 50 awards from major shows and also named 2008 Easyrider Old School Builder of the Year.

BREW also had a successful year at the Ohio Mile while achieving 8 new land speed records with the CB350 and the 1948 Harley Davidson WL45. In all total, BREW now holds 15 land speed records with ECTA.

While 2012 was a very good year for BREW, 2013 was even better! BREW was invited, and accepted, to show the new bike that we built in the Lichter Exhibit, located at the Buffalo Chip in Sturgis, SD. Michael Lichter each year has an exhibit for the week in Sturgis. He also hosts a VIP party that is attended by the Who’s Who of the motorcycle industry including several magazines from across the globe. The new bike, which was unveiled there is also our new land speed race bike that Brew will race this 2014 season.

The bike will also be the subject of tech articles that I write for The Horse Magazine. The Horse is the #1 chopper magazine sold and can be found at Wal-Mart and other magazine/book stores.

The bike will then be raced at the ECTA Ohio Mile hopefully to set several land speed records. Bonneville and Loring are possibilities also for the 2014 race season.

We have set our sights on 2014 and the racing of this new bike. The new bike is a 1974 Yamaha RD350. It has the first frame built in the USA with Reynolds Technology 853 Air Hardening steel. This super steel is four times stronger than regular steel used in frames. It is also a featherbed frame which is a favorite for vintage enthusiasts. The RD350 had a stock weight of 374lbs and 35 HP. This new bike is 243lbs and over 60 HP!

The other bike Brew will be racing is a 1948 Harley Davidson 45 Flathead. It is a full custom race bike and has already achieved 4 land speed race records.

Both bikes will also be shown at different events this year.”

In response to this, Sasha Fowlers said “We are very happy to be part of this exciting season coming for Brew and look forward to working together for sometime to come as we can easily see both Steve, his company, and all of us at Fowlers are on the same page…….old school values, hard work, and top quality in everything we do”

So, be on the lookout for great things from this combination of Brew Bikes and Fowlers Distribution in the future.

CUSTOM CYCLE CONTROL SYSTEMS Offers Lifetime Warranty on the New Improved Simplified Air Suspension/SAS–Las Vegas, NV- Custom Cycle Control Systems announced today a new lifetime warranty on all of the machined parts as well as a 3 year “all encompassing” warranty on their new SAS air suspension. If ANYTHING happens to your SAS the first 3 years, take it off and send it back to CCCS (it only takes a few minutes), You’ll receive a reconditioned or new unit…no questions asked…and there’s no wait!

Raise and lower your rear end at the touch of a button. Add air pressure to improve ride quality during changing road conditions or while hauling added weight. Also improving the ride quality is a “pre-set factory” dampening valve. At approximately 150 psi, the bike will be fully raised and the suspension will be resting on its piston bumpers at *maximum ride height*. After that your height will not change, but you can continue to increase air pressure for improved riding during cornering or with a passenger.

The SAS is super easy to install and comes complete with mounting instructions. There’s no compressor to mount, no pressure hoses to run, no fittings to fail…All you have to do is replace your old shocks with a new SAS unit and wire an on/off switch directly to the battery.

The biggest advantage to the SAS vs. “old style” compressor suspension units is that there are no hoses to run…Hoses that after a while get invisible pin holes causing your suspension to leak. It may be hours or days to track down one of these pin holes, but you’ll never have that problem with CCCS’ new SAS System.

You won’t have to remove your EPA canisters to make room for an ugly compressor so you’ll always be legal. Fits all softail Harley-Davidson’s, as well as custom production bikes. Its water-resistant design is perfect for those inclement weather rides and they are manufactured right here in the USA.

MSRP-$1,395.00

For those interested in obtaining more information on Custom Cycle Control Systems new SAS system, you can reach them at 866-438-2129, or 702-438-2129. Check them out online at www.customcyclecontrols.com or email them at lyaple@customcyclecontrols.com.

building this show winning ground up custom bike I sourced the very best parts on the market. Naturally that included the Simplified Air Suspension from Custom Cycle Controls as this system rocks!

Being able to slam the bike to the ground at shows, but then at the touch of a button pump it up again, is totally cool. The installation couldn’t be simpler and the unit itself seems bullet proof. Highly recommended.”

THE BAD COP FILES OPEN–Here is a Cop That Was Doing Her Job and Others Harassed Her For Doing It.

We all know about Cops Who Think Laws Do Not Apply To Them. See this statement below – Law enforcement officers have long been known to band together and protect each other, but Watts said in her lawsuit that these actions went too far.

http://news.msn.com/crime-justice/fla-trooper-who-stopped-cop-sues-after-harassment

Fla. trooper who stopped cop sues after harassment, Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Frame grab from an Oct. 11, 2011, video shows Florida Highway patrol officer Donna Jane Watts arresting Miami Police department officer Fausto Lopez.

After pulling over a speeding police officer, Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Donna Jane Watts says she was harassed and threatened by other cops.

MIAMI — Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Donna Jane Watts was on routine patrol early one morning when a Miami police car whizzed past at speeds that would eventually top 120 mph. Even with her blue lights flashing and siren blaring, it took Watts more than seven minutes to pull the speeder over.

Not certain who was behind the wheel, she approached the car warily, with gun drawn, according to video from her cruiser’s dashboard camera. “Put your hands out of the window! Right now!” she yelled.

It turned out the driver was Miami Police Department officer Fausto Lopez, in full uniform. Watts holstered her gun but still handcuffed him and took his weapon.

“I apologize,” Lopez said, explaining that he was late for an off-duty job.

“You were running 120 miles an hour!” Watts barked back.

That October 2011 confrontation made national headlines and eventually got Lopez fired. But Watts’ actions involving a fellow officer didn’t sit well with many in law enforcement, and not long after she made that traffic stop, she says, the harassment began. Random telephone calls on her cell phone.

Some were threats and some were prank calls, including orders for pizza. Unfamiliar vehicles and police cars sat idling in her cul-de-sac. She was afraid to open her mailbox.

Watts suspected her private driver’s license information was being accessed by fellow officers, so she made a public records request with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. It turned out she was right: over a three-month period, at least 88 law enforcement officers from 25 different agencies accessed Watts’ driver’s license information more than 200 times, according to her lawyer.

Law enforcement officers have long been known to band together and protect each other, but Watts said in her lawsuit that these actions went too far.
Watts is suing those police agencies and the individual officers under the federal Driver Privacy Protection Act, a 1994 law that provides for a penalty of $2,500 for each violation if the information was improperly accessed.

Watts’ attorney, Mirta Desir, said it’s clear most of the officers had no legitimate reason to look up her data. If all the searches were found illegal, Watts could receive more than $500,000.

THE DREAD LEFT TURN RED LIGHT BILL– OLYMPIA, WA— Motorcyclists could turn left at an intersection if the traffic light doesn’t give them the green arrow after a complete cycle under a bill that received strong support from the Senate.

SB 5141 would change state traffic laws to account for a problem some motorcyclists have at intersections controlled by some sensors triggered by weight. They don’t weigh enough to register on the sensor, and the left-turn arrow never turns green.

Sen. Jim Hargrove, a Hoquiam Democrat who rides a motorcycle, said he’s experienced the problem and joked that some Priuses also don’t weigh enough to register on some sensors.

A motorcyclist would have to weight through a complete cycle of lights changing for all directions before making a left-turn when clear.

The bill passed on a 46-2 vote. The same bill passed the Senate last session but didn’t receive a final vote in the House.

The Crew at H P I showed up in force…and we survived another round trip flight across the good old USA to attend the Easyriders V-Twin show in Cincy.

We hauled ass out of LAX on a sunny afternoon, ice cold in the balmy high teens when we landed. Upon arrival in Cincy about midnight, pulled my faithful travel bag off of the luggage dispenser to discover the zipper pulls in a new location? A fukin clue? Of course it was, seems the lovable, jovial, ever diligent agents from the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) seem to delight in searching my shit every year…so what were they looking for? What ever it was…they missed it. Better luck next year…TSA…..

We squeezed into a cab with Jodi Perewitz (the fastest woman in town?), her boyfriend, Bandit and The Editor, Doc Robinson Heavy Duty Magazine, Australia. Hey, Doc may be the only man on the planet that doesn’t care for Lyndall Racing Rotors? My recommendation, return them for a full refund… oh? shit… they were free? Damn the bad luck.. send the back anyway and we’ll find a happy home for them. Just can’t please everyone can we, but we gave it a try. Maybe next time.

Destination, 19th floor of the Hilton located downtown, a bite of cold pizza, a hot shower and a night of very little rest in a strange town, in a strange bed.

Early Saturday, just about the crack of dawn a blazing ball of fire lit the room up….the sun if you haven’t seen it lately. Show Time in Cincy… Rock N Roll…Hit the floor runnin’…Your Bikernet Crew spent Friday on a jet cruising at 35,000 feet without a bite of food. So after a quick shower and a bite to eat, combed my locks, tucked my shirt in, loaded my pockets with business cards, 5-Ball Racing Team stickers and hauled ass into the elements, crossing the street into the Duke Energy Center.

Our own Andy from Crank & Stroker had our booth set up with the latest 5-Ball Racing Leather and heavy-duty clothing line, ready for non-stop action. The doors flew open and the crowds flooded in, sometimes more than one. The show amazes me every year and this year was just right.

Our table was loaded for bear and more….Bikernet goodies included the latest Wheeler Workstation Tri-fold, Unbrako nuts and bolts w/literature, a 5 Ball, the latest Lyndall Racing Brakes. We ran out of S&S Cycle Bonneville posters early Sunday morning, stickers by mid-morning.

Books written by K. Randall Ball including How To Build A Bonneville Bike.

Speaking of the Backstage Cantina Membership and a cold winter day….join the Backstage club and we’ll ship out a bag full on good shit that will warm your heart. Including a membership card, a 5-Ball Racing Team sticker, patch, Orwell book, bandana, the latest Cycle Source and more. Your latest ex-wife will love it. At least mine will.

Hello Sweetheart….This is the day to tell your Sweetheart ya Love her and mean it.

A shout out of thanks goes to my new editorial assistant, Nicole Becker, who’s responsible for all the fun, new image graphics we’ve been seeing on the WRN site. Her talent is raising the bar in how we bring stories to you. Exciting, fresh, but most of all fun! ‘Cause that’s what motorcycling is all about!

Finally, if all this frigid weather is getting you northerners restless consider attending Daytona Bike Week. If you’ve never been, then think about heading to Florida for the ultimate rally in the sun. Women: here’s the latest details on the 7th annual MDA Ride that Harley-Davidson puts on every year.

INCREDIBLE—Life is incredible. I watched a goofy Charlie Chaplin movie from 1940 making fun of Hitler. The generals discounted Freedom to their people and made fun of it, as they took one freedom after another from their citizens. They said freedom was bullshit. Check this.

It turned into a situation where folks were constantly afraid, for fear of regulation. Does it sound familiar? It’s not so much the economy hurting our aftermarket, but the regulators. But don’t get me started. But I do wish someone would put freedom first. We have supported any and all motorcycle rights groups over the years and helped kick off the Motorcycle Riders Foundation Industry Council.

I know we are burdened with everything from property taxes, to vehicle registrations, state and federal taxes, you name it, but save $100 every year for a motorcycle rights group. We need to keep the fight alive.

We need our freedoms to build and ride wild motorcycles into the sunset. Hell, I’m wrapping up Eric Bennett’s feature and he taught me a lesson about dynos. He discovered inaccuracies in dyno runs with rubbermounted bikes at about 6000 rpms. The vibration, with the bike strapped to the dyno is intense. Now, he removes the air cleaner and backing plate so the carb can relax through the vibration. It works. He pulled 119.5 max horses, and 121.3 pounds of torque with his 106-inch Dyna. You’ll read all about it next week.

And here’s another feature coming from Mike Pullin and the Charolette Easyriders show.

Ride Free Forever,
