Hey,
Just returned from SEMA in Vegas to complete the Thursday News. Was up a 4:15 this morning to catch a flight. I hung out with Bob Kay and Jeff Najar, the bosses of Biker Pros who are the producers of the custom bike show aspect of the IMS show series of some 12 motorcycle shows all over the country. But that’s not all. They will be responsible for an additional series of six shows throughout 2013.
I like what they are doing for the industry, for builders, and for spectators. They added another level of quality to show judging, IMS show displays, and the manner is which they handle the contestants and bikes. It’s all class.
Jeff and I spoke about the GEN Y generation and how to use standard media, social media, and web sites to keep a shop growing. Let’s hit the news, then I’ll tell you about some items I spotted on the floor of the show.

SOA Fiction or Reality?– Anyone who watches TV knows most of what they are viewing is fiction even the news skews the truth depending on how the network leans. So when a TV show about a group of Motorcycle Thugs comes on the TV you have to wonder if any of this is based in fact or pure Hollywood fabrication.
Ok I’ll admit it our family is not hooked to cable or dish instead we use rabbit ears with a digital converter box. That said, I am a few years behind the cable TV show times. So when my teenage son brought home the first season of Sons of Anarchy from the local library I thought great now I can find out what all the hullabaloo is about.
Five episodes into Sons of Anarchy and I’m hooked, just like cigarettes or donuts even though you know it’s not good for you, you still indulge anyhow.
As I watch I continue to ask myself where do the writers get their intel? Knowing a bit about clubs (Keep in mind I’ve never been a member of any club this side of the Cub Scouts) I can say some things I have witnessed are true while much is just action and behavior designed to keep me coming back for more. So, regardless of what is most likely over hyped violence and ugliness, I will enjoying watching as the show unravels, like an old boot lace.
Overall SOA reminds me of some of those 60’s and 70’s biker flicks, but with much better acting and story arc. As for truth, I think the closest comparison would be to the CSI franchise where truth is pushed far beyond reality into the realm of fiction.
As for the actors, Ron Pearlman does a fine job as the thuggish SOA “Sam Crow” President who shows no remorse over killing someone who gets in his way. His wife the former Married With Children Mother does a fine job portraying the cunning “Mystic River” type of wife who backs the actions of her man all for the sake of maintaining her small but powerful fiefdom.
As for the concept, I think when the creators sat down they thought how can we mimic the success of the Soprano’s? What they came up with was SOA a violent group of outlaw bikers complete with personal dram and human foibles. Just like the Soprano’s, who is trying to balance their brutish business life with their out of control personal life. Anytime you can mix in human frailty, tragedy and personal train wrecks with bigger than life ugliness, action and a dash of suspense you have the recipe for a successful TV show.
Since I’ve just begun my journey, I don’t want to know what has transpired to date so please don’t send me any spoilers. The library has all the seasons in stock so it’s just a matter of time before I work through each one.
As a closing note. The actor who played Half Sac in the first two seasons went nuts killed his 84 year old land lady, then killed himself. In his case, truth is stranger than fiction.

CTS & CD Baby Introduce New “Quarter Mile” Recording To Support B.R.A.K.E.S. Student Driving Education Program– (Phoenix, AZ) –October 30, 2012 –The award-winning rock band CTS (Consider The Source) has joined forces with CD Baby, the world’s largest digital distributor of independent music, to benefit the non-profit 501 (c) organization B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible, Keep Everyone Safe) Their goal is to generate additional funding to take the B.R.A.K.E.S. life-saving student driving education programs nationwide. CTS recently issued a new single recording of their popular drag racing song, “Quarter Mile,” on CD Baby and other music download services, with proceeds dedicated to the B.R.A.K.E.S. Safe Driving Programs for teenage drivers.
As part of this fundraising effort, the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) will lend promotional support through its numerous marketing platforms, including social media and NHRA.com, to promote the song’s availability.
B.R.A.K.E.S. has provided safe driving instruction courses for over 8,000 students from 19 different states and 2 countries. The organization’s goal is to increase funding to introduce the B.R.A.K.E.S. program to public & private schools throughout North America with the goal of reducing teen driving accidents.
“The song ‘Quarter Mile,’ was inspired by a drag racing friend of mine who said she lived her life a quarter mile at a time. I was so impressed by all the obstacles she’d overcome to pursue her racing passion, I had to write a song comparing her life’s journey to achieving any dream we have,” stated Jeff Senour, founder of CTS.

STORING BIKES FOR THE WINTER– Editor’s Note: This story was originally posted on Women Riders Now (WRN) on November 14, 2010. We’re bringing it out of hibernation because it includes good information to help you prepare for winter.
Can you believe it’s time for us to be talking about storing our motorcycles for the winter? Seriously, where did the summer go? My opinion is that fall is the best time to ride, and for some motorcycle riders there are plenty of awesome autumn riding days left. But the reality is that winter is just around the corner for most of us. I know that may sound depressing, but look at it this way: That gives you plenty of time to plan out what custom work you’d like to do to your bike over the winter months. Do you want more power? Is it time for a little performance work? How about looks—do you have a new vision of your motorcycle? Start planning your ideas now.
Do your research. Find a shop or artist you’d like to work with and start the conversations now. Trust me, as a former shop owner, I can tell you that if you don’t get your project in early, you’ll be at the end of the list, which means not getting your bike back until later in the spring. And before we start thinking about rolling our bikes back out for that invigorating first spring ride, we need to talk about winter storage.
There are a variety of motorcycle covers to choose from, including these two from Tour Master. The left cover is constructed of PVC and priced at $25.99. The high-end “Elite” cover on the right, priced at $72.99, has heat panels to protect the cover from hot parts on the bike and is 100 percent waterproof (in case your bike is stored outside). It’s also breathable, which allows air to get through so no moisture builds up when temperatures change—no moisture, no rust.
Depending on where you live, you might have to store your bike during the winter months. If so, there are several things you should do to care for your bike properly. First, there are two different types of motorcycles to address: fuel injected and carbureted.
The first thing to do when storing a fuel-injected bike is to add fuel stabilizer to your motorcycle’s fuel tank. Make sure the tank is full of gas. Turn on the bike and let it run idle with the stabilizer in the tank for a few minutes. This allows the stabilizer to work into the injectors and will help to prevent the fuel from gunking up the injectors.

FLAWED AUSTRALIAN ANTI-BIKER LAW TO BE WRITTEN– The New South Wales (Aussie’s biggest state) government is to rewrite its anti-biker laws after being warned that flaws in the legislation could leave it open to another embarrassing challenge in the courts.
The Crimes (Criminal Organizations Control) Act, introduced after a wave of club violence earlier this year, was intended to replace laws that were thrown out by the High Court last year.
At the time, NSW Attorney-General Greg Smith said the Coalition was “fixing the rushed and flawed” legislation of the Labor government.
In April, NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione gave his staff four weeks to draw up the paperwork to have the Hells Angels declared a criminal organization under the revised legislation.
This application, which is several folders thick, has since been passed back and forth between the police and state government, while independent counsel have warned the legislation remains open to a challenge.
The government has now privately conceded it will need to be redrawn, possibly as early as next month, as it fails to address the Hells Angels organization in separate chapters, rather than one identifiable hierarchy.
Wayne Baffsky, counsel for the Hells Angels, said he would consider another legal challenge to any new attempt to have the club declared a criminal organization.
A separate Supreme Court challenge to the government’s new consorting laws, which make it illegal for convicted criminals to communicate, is expected to be launched within the next fortnight.
At least three members of the Nomads motorcycle club are among about 10 bikers who have been charged under this legislation, with NSW police understood to be waiting for the court to rule on their appeal before issuing further charges.
Mr Smith declined to comment.

Anyway, we know that motorcycles don’t have to be that loud and it’s not a huge technical challenge. A lot of Japanese bikes’ exhaust noise levels are acceptable but it appears that if you ride a “hog” you seem to think you have some kind of right to deafen everyone around you.
If you are one of these obnoxious “hog” riders, please explain why your bike has to be so damn loud … we, those of us with hearing loss, would really like to know.

They actually are next to the Train station and some the central building like City Hall.
The hotel shots are from Champing – about 30 miles from GZ in China.
Notice the very wide streets and tall buildings give it the Vegas feel with the weather also.
Big town – small city – lots of entertainment – a lot underground, (not visible).
Last night here was Halloween and most of the bars were pretty well decorated.It was a very light customer night though. Surprise – I thought it would be busy.
After e-m abut 330 I went back to the room as I was feeling sluggish.
Had something to eat that created a light case of food poisoning.
After four hours sleep I was ok. Made for a good night.
Ex Shark girl danced the next night. Whispered in my ear things I like to hear. Lost my hanging skeletons ( Halloween costume). Closed the place at 3 am and headed out.
Closed that place at 4am again. Woke up around 11 and got out by 1pm.

Last week end the Texas Mile event was held at J&S Matus Motorsports in Pearland, Texas. The event sold out weeks ago. Not sure how many showed up, no official count available today. Although, managed to pull some speedy info off of their face book page for the speed freaks in the crowd. A Ford GT driven by Sean Kennedy was the fastest four-wheeler on the tarmac @263.3 mph, one mph behind him was a Camaro breathin’ down his neck @263.2 mph.

After meeting with the Crew at Race Tech in Corona yesterday afternoon we feel that we have a plan that will get us to the starting line in fine shape.

SAMSON EXHAUST CELEBRATES MOVE TO STURGIS, SOUTH DAKOTA–The Sturgis community came out in force earlier this month to help welcome Samson Exhaust to the community. Samson’s Kenny Price has been working since 2007 to be able to finally break ground on a new 45,000 foot facility in Sturgis that will be the new headquarters for Samson Exhaust.
The company is expected to employ 30 people when it opens. The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on the actual location where Samson will relocate, but high winds in the Black Hills moved the ceremony indoors to a nearby building owned by the Sturgis Regional Economic Development Corporation.
Kenny Price founded Samson Exhaust in 1988 with a few innovative designs and equipment purchased from a company going through Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Since then, Kenny’s become known throughout the industry as the “Godfather of Pipes.” He is the inventor of numerous high-performance exhaust systems – some years, he introduced more than 50 new designs.
In 2005, Kenny made the decision to move his business from its current location in Brea, California to the Sturgis Industrial Park. Shortly after the original announcement, the economy forced Kenny to slow that move down.
Now, ground has been broken, and Samson is expected to make its move in the spring of 2013.
The ceremony welcoming Samson to the community included welcomes from each of the state’s two U.S. Senators and South Dakota’s lone Congresswoman. In addition, the company was welcomed by Sturgis Mayor Mark Carstenson, Meade County Commissioner Alan Aker, and local economic development officials.
Kenny Price took the microphone and told the crowd how excited he is to finally be making this move. The presentation ended with Sturgis Economic Development Corporation President Pat Kurtenbach presenting Kenny with a personalized Samson t-shirt with the Sturgis logo on the back.

UNCLE MONKEY ON HOW FRAGIL WE CAN BE–We often forget how fragile we are. We assume we are going to live forever, treating our bodies like amusement parks; one hell of a ride hoping to arrive at the Pearly gate with a weathered and completed worn out body.
It doesn’t always happen that way. It was only a few years ago I ran into my friend Grant at the local coffee shop. He came into town to have breakfast with friends, stop and say hello to family. We talked for a couple of minutes and wished him well. Little did I know at that time it would be the last time I would see Grant. He died in an unfortunate motorcycle accident a couple of hours later that day.
We faced another uncertainty when my good friend Lawrence was in an accident Saturday. Little is left of his half-ton as it was mangled by an eighteen-wheeler. All those coming up to the accident assumed it was a fatality. Lawrence very luckily escaped the Grim Reaper bruised and battered with a mangled throttle hand but he lives on with us. We are all thankful.
Often we go about our day-to-day lives without thinking about our family and friends. Rarely does it occur to us that they might not be there, that we might not be here. So what is the answer? I’m very against the nanny state that our society is gravitating towards where everything is rounded corners and soft surfaces. It makes us complacent, reckless living without consequences.
So live your life, enjoy your life. Embrace your friends, love, laugh, and cry. Stop what you are doing and read a bedtime story to your little girl because in a blink of an eye she will be putting a granddaughter in your arms. Savour wine, woman, and song. Realize there is no wasted moments in life. Stop worrying about what might have been or could have been and live in this moment, right here, right now because it is already gone.

BANDIT INSTALLS A RIVERA-PRIMO STIFFY—Watch for this super simple tech to be post over the weekend. Although we were forced to grill Ben Kudon, the Rivera GM, for info we were able to squeeze the info out of him.
This must be one of the easiest installs I have ever encountered, and it will be extremely interesting to test the results on the Mudflap girl FXR over the months ahead.
If you have a touring H-D or FXR from ’84 to ’08 you might consider this install. Let me know how it works for you.
AUSTRALIAN ‘SECRET’ FORCE TARGETS REBELS–Australian national and state law enforcement agencies have targeted the Rebels motorcycle club, with a top-secret joint taskforce to also probe Australia’s largest motorcycle group’s expansion into Southeast Asia.
The Attero Taskforce was established this year by the Serious and Organized Crime Co-ordination Committee, which represents all law enforcement jurisdictions.
The Rebels MC, established in Queensland in 1969, is the fastest-growing and arguably the largest club in Australia with more than 1000 members and has chapters in all states and territories.
The taskforce has combined the resources of the federal police, the Australian Crime Commission, Customs, the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Securities & Investments Commission in an unprecedented joint effort. It is seen as a forerunner to other national operations targeting motorcycle clubs and criminal groups operating across state boundaries.

I learned this weekend that Amsoil oil products make Harleys run 15 degrees cooler that other oils across the sun belt.
We’ve been asked to display all of our Bonneville bikes at the IMS show in Long Beach in December.
