THE HOT PRODUCT THURSDAY NEWS

Hey,

Every week the world changes according to our stellar Thursday News. One week it’s all about laws and legislation. The next, it’s all jokes and fun, and the following it’s all about creativity, products, and new bikes. It’s incredible, as if the stars are aligned for whatever topic is in store for us this week.

Could it be mystical, the season, the tides, or tea leaves? Who cares… A steam roller is rumbling up and down the street next to our 1926 building, and each time it moves, if feels like an earthquake inside. Damn, they need to finish the street widening before I go out of my mind. Let’s ride–just after the news:

SINISTER INDUSTRIES ‘BAD ASS WRAP’ FENDERS– Steel Fenders for 21″, 23″, 26″, and 30″ Front Wheels.

John Shope of Sinister Industries has long been pushing the envelope with his custom builds, and now you can have a killer piece from his parts bin for your next build. Sinister Industries is proud to announce the release of their very own 12 gauge steel fenders for larger front wheels. These fenders are hand spun and fully TIG welded, then precision cut for the best fit on the market.

Each fender has an aggressive cut, but leaves plenty of room for trimming to suit your own taste. Each and every fender is smooth as glass, and hugs the tire just right. The thicker material also doubles as a fork brace, which you already know these larger wheels require.

The best part? Sinister is offering these in hard to find sizes, such as the 23″, 26″, and the monster 30″. Of course the wide 21″ is also available. Pair one of these with Sinister’s Slim Line Fender Mounting Blocks, and you will have the perfect install. And the price is right! The 21″, 23″, and 26″, are priced at $395!

Please contact Sinister for pricing on the 30″. Hit John and the crew up at www.sinisterindustries.com or give ’em a shout at 623-465-5263

QUESTION OF THE WEEK REGARDING BIKERNET TRIKES–
How can I get my product mentioned on TRN or www.bikernettrikes.com?

Bikernettrikes, formerly Trike Riders Now Product News & Reviews page is a section where we post selected items we feel are of interest to our readers. If you would like your product to be considered for a product announcement—where we do not test the product, we simply post information about it—please follow these guidelines: submit a press release spelling out the basics of the product (i.e. who, what, where, why and when). Attach at least one image (two are preferred) in a high resolution jpeg format. While low resolution photos are used on the Web, we prefer to downsize them on our end. Email the images and press release to the editor at Bandit@bikernet.com. We make no guarantees on when and if the product will post, but unless it’s gold lace doilies, you’ve got a helluva shot.

If you wish to have your product tested by any Bikernet editor or one of our contributors, it is best to call or email us, so we can find the proper fit, motorcycle, writer, and make it happen for you. We cannot guarantee we’ll test every product, but in most cases, unless you manufacturer pink ear muffs, we’ll find a place for your product.

LIFE’S LITTLE LESSONS–

A priest offered a Nun a lift.
She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg.
The priest nearly had an accident.

After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg.

The nun said, ‘Father, remember Psalm 129?’

The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again.
The nun once again said, ‘Father, remember Psalm 129?’

The priest apologized ‘Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.’

Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way.

On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, ‘Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.’

Moral of the story:
If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

12th ANNUAL V-Twin Expo Delivers–
Longest running event at the Duke Energy Convention Center delivers throngs of dealers and over 230 world-class exhibitors to Cincinnati.

Agoura Hills, CA— Following strong pre-registration for the 12th Annual V-Twin Expo in
Cincinnati, topped off with solid exhibitor registration, the 12th Annual V-Twin Expo
proved once again why it is the world’s largest V-twin industry trade show.

Occupying more than 52,000 square feet at the Duke Energy Center, the V-Twin Expo
welcomed throngs of dealers Saturday February 4. Sunday continued to be a busy day
for the over 230 world-class V-twin industry exhibitors with just a few hours remaining
Monday morning, most exhibitors were found renewing their booth contracts for 2013 or
networking among industry professionals.

Positive feedback electrified the air during and after the show from both the attending
dealers and presenting exhibitors. From first time dealer attendees like Duane and
Cristene Justus at Adele Motors in Hauser Lake, Idaho to long time dealer attendees
like Ken Puzio of Black Hills Custom Parts out of Rockaway, New Jersey, the sentiment
was the same —“Best Show in years!” First time attendees like Duane and Cristene
commented on their experience at the 12th Annual V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati: “By
attending, we were able to establish relationships with four or five target vendors we
hope to work with in 2012. We are already excited about next years show and have
made room reservations,” said Duane Justus. Ken Puzio summed up his 12th year of
attending like this: “See you next year”.

Exhibitor Greg Blackwell, Vice President of Sales, Drag Specialties said this about the
12th Annual V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati: “When it comes to trade shows, we look for one
thing: quality, established American V-twin dealers. The V-Twin Expo does an outstanding job attracting these dealers into Cincy each and every year. Drag will continue to support the V-Twin Expo in a big way”.

Dealers actively in the V-twin business, motorcycle retailers, manufacturers and members of the press are invited to attend this trade only event. The 13th Annual V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati February 2-4, 2013. This is the only exclusive V-twin trade show attracting dealers from the US, Canada and around the world. The V-Twin Expo by
Easyriders is wholly owned by Paisano Publications. The V-Twin Expo has not been
combined with any other show or company.

Watch for 2013 schedule, show info and registration details at: www.VTwin-Expo.com.

BIKERNET FAMILY COUNSELING SESSION–
There comes a time when a woman just has to trust her husband…

A wife comes home late at night and quietly opens the door to her bedroom.
From under the blanket she sees four legs instead of two. A man and a woman. She reaches for a baseball bat and starts hitting the blanket as hard as she can. Once she’s done,
she goes to the kitchen to have a drink.

As she enters, she sees her husband there, reading a magazine.

“Hi Darling”, he says, “Your parents have come to visit us, so l let them stay in our bedroom. Did you say ‘hello’?”

UNCLE MONKEY ON MONEY AND TRADE–
Money makes the world go around. The days of bartering and trade, though not dead are behind us. The company that I work for has thousands of great, loyal customers who we are more then happy to do business with. That being said we do occasionally run into customers who don’t pay.

The excuses are long and varied but basically fall into them not having the money or them ignoring how much something would cost before they gave the go ahead. It means that we have to sometimes take customers to court in an attempt to recoup some of our money. It had become quite problematic for the company before I started there.

I implemented a policy of getting a credit card number from all new customers before we would do the work. The policy has considerably cut down the number of dead beats we are forced to deal with. Having a credit card number on file is a way of life now. It is virtually impossible to rent a car or a hotel or even a movie without having a credit card.

The bulk of our customers do not have a problem with this. They understand that it is a safety precaution on our behalf, a last resort when all else has fails. But there are customers who do have a problem with it. It is not surprising, the ones who refuse, claim to be cash only, claim that we have no right asking for something up front, are the same customers, who at the end of the month, at the end of the year that still haven’t paid their bill.

Business is not a charity. We are here to make money, to provide jobs for our techs, to put food on their tables, to make sure they have money in their accounts to pay their own bills.

My days of paying cash are in the past. Personally, I deal with people and companies all over the world. It is world of plastic and e-commerce. Hotel charges and receipts show up in my inbox at the end of the month. My bank account rises and falls with the flow of parts and work in and out the door. So if you’re a new customer and you don’t believe in plastic, well I guess you won’t be our new customer.

BIKERNET MEDICAL CENTER HEARTBURN FINDINGS FROM DR. WEIL–
If you suffer from frequent heartburn – twice a week or more – you may have gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD. This condition occurs in people whose lower esophageal sphincter doesn’t close properly, allowing stomach acid to backflow into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in the chest and neck areas.

It can also cause nausea, coughing, belching, a bitter taste and respiratory problems, including aggravation of asthma. Diet, stress, smoking and pregnancy can all trigger or worsen symptoms.

If you think you have GERD, see a doctor to rule out other concerns, such as angina, which has similar symptoms. Discuss any medications you are taking: some can trigger reflux. If you want to naturally treat GERD try the following:

* Keep a food and beverage journal. It can help you identify, track and later avoid triggers.
* Eat small, frequent meals.
* Wear loose clothing and maintain a healthy weight. Both can prevent stomach constriction and help reduce GERD.
* Avoid lying down after eating.
* Practice relaxation techniques such as breathing exercises.
* Sip chamomile tea. It can help soothe inflamed tissue in the esophagus.
* Try sleeping on your left side. This may help move acid away from the entrance of the esophagus. Raising the head of the bed by a few inches can also help.

FINNED DISHPAN ROCKER COVERS–
These Covers were designed and manufactured by Randy Smith and CCE back in 1968. Designed to eliminate the oil seepage associated with the stock Panhead rocker box covers, these covers also imparted noise dampening and a cooler running motor.

They were a great success not only because of their mechanical improvement but also because of their distinctive style.

We’ve reintroduced these to the market using the original tooling Randy designed and cast at the same foundry.

The BEAST IS COMING TO ATLANTA–
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation’s (MRF) Annual BEAST of the East Conference will take place in Atlanta, April 13-15, 2012, hosted by ABATE of Georgia. MRF conferences are designed to educate and motivate those in the motorcyclists’ rights community. In addition to being a fantastic learning opportunity, these events are a great chance to meet other people from all over the country who are as passionate about motorcyclists’ rights as you are.

Workshops and seminars this year will be presented by motorcyclists’ rights activists from Georgia, Washington DC, Arizona, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia and Wisconsin, and we expect participants from all over the country as well.

You can register in advance for BEAST, as well as download and/or view the BEAST poster, registration information, and tentative agenda at www.mrf.org/events.php.

When making your travel arrangements, PLEASE NOTE that workshops for BEAST this year will begin at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 13. The agenda covers a wide range of topics, and naturally, we will update participants on all federal motorcycling issues and the MRF’s 2012 legislative agenda.

We will have informative seminars regarding motorcycle awareness and education, women in motorcycling, a variety of legal perspectives, and the U.S. Constitution. In addition, we will have training seminars on how a federal bill becomes a law, developing relationships with legislators and agencies, passing bills, and “Share the Road” programs; as well as special meetings for MRF Reps and for motorcycle club members.

One of the highlights of the conference will be a general session on “The History of the MRF.” Some of the most valuable knowledge you will gain will be in the “meetings after the meetings,” which take place in the hallways, hospitality suite, and banquet. The networking opportunities are phenomenal at MRF conferences.

We do have an auction at the banquet to raise money for the MRF (it costs approximately $1000/day to keep our office open in DC, even with an entire volunteer Board of Directors). Auction item donations are greatly appreciated, and will be collected on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning at the conference hotel.

Conference participants are required to make their own hotel reservations. We have negotiated a special room rate of $89 per night at the Westin Atlanta Airport, which includes free parking and special meal rates in the hotel restaurant. Attendees who are not staying at the Westin will be required to pay $10/day to park in their lot. Rooms must be reserved by March 15, and you must mention the Motorcycle Riders Foundation BEAST of the East Conference to get the special room rate. The BEAST conference poster provides all of the hotel registration information.

I hope to see you at the MRF’s BEAST of the East conference in Atlanta!

TERRY THE TRAMP REPORT FROM MOTORBOOKS–
It’s our best selling POS (point of sale, not the other kind of POS) title right now. Of course without our second biggest customer (Borders) the term “best-selling” means a very different thing than it did a few years back. Still, it’s doing well, and it’s getting great reviews.

THE HORSE WORKS WITH BILLY LANE ON THE ROLLING THUNDER BUILD IN PRISON–
Once we got the green light to begin the Rolling Thunder WDC, Inc. build with Billy, we wasted no time in flying down to Florida and meeting with the Warden, his staff and of course, Billy at the Avon Park Correctional Institution.

Warden Chapman has been very supportive of this project and hopes to use this build as a pilot for future programs that helps inmates re-enter civilian life with useful skills and confidence. Warden Chapman has made our job easier in solving many of the logistical challenges normally associated with such a project, considering the apparent constraints. This build is being completed with no cost to the institution or the Florida Department of Corrections.

HORSE Back Street Choppers Magazine

Billy Lane on the upcoming build:

I’ve always found it absolutely necessary to show my support and appreciation for our nation’s active duty servicemen and women, and especially for our veterans. I had planned to attend the Rolling Thunder WDC, Inc. event in 2006, since I’d never been before.

My trip was contingent on one or both of two other events not materializing: filming a Biker Build-Off Television Show versus Russell Mitchell for the Discovery Channel, and a USO Tour overseas to visit our deployed troops and their families. It turned out to be a busy summer. Prior to leaving the States, the USO arranged for me to visit wounded veterans at Walter Reed Military Hospital and the Fisher House in D.C.

The simple plan is to incorporate Speedway styling with design elements found in some of the Air Force fighter planes and bombers, while avoiding the traditionally followed and well-worn paths of ornamenting the machine with faux bombs, missiles, Gatling guns, and nose art. Nose art is great, but there will be no place for it on this bike.

The Florida Department of Corrections has embraced this project and pledged its resources and backing to Rolling Thunder WDC, Inc.’s goals of lobbying for veteran’s rights and raising awareness for American prisoners of War and Missing in Action personnel.

Watch for the full report in the HORSE on sale the third week of March.

NEW ANTI-BIKER/ANTI-ASSOCIATION LAWS PLANNED FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA–
Draconian laws designed to stop criminals from associating with one another are among key new measures to stem violence to be introduced into South Australia.

Under the new measures, police will apply to the Magistrates Court for an order that bans a person from both associating or communicating with a person or persons named in the order.

For the order – separate to a control order that can be issued under the Serious and Organized Crime (Control) Act – to be successful, the target will have to have been convicted of an indictable offence within the previous two years. The magistrate must also be satisfied such an order is necessary to ensure the defendant does not commit more indictable offences.

The law is one of several new measures in the South Australian government’s renewed crackdown on so called gang violence. Others include strengthened consorting laws, changes to loitering laws that will apply to a “prescribed” person and several measures to encourage witnesses to give evidence against gang members.

In addition, Cabinet will also consider legislation to amend the existing Act, to make it constitutionally valid. High Court decisions knocked out sections of the SA legislation and NSW legislation in 2010 and last year.

There will be several major amendments to ensure the Act is constitutionally valid and will withstand likely challenges. The changes are likely to include:

GIVING the Supreme Court, rather than the Attorney-General, the power to declare a gang or group a criminal organization.

SHIFTING the issuing of a control order from the Magistrates Court jurisdiction to the Supreme Court and making the decision discretionary.

GIVING the Supreme Court the power to make any control order issued as wide-ranging as possible but with restrictions such as limiting access to electronic communications.

The new legislation will be introduced in Parliament on Tuesday.

BIKERNET UNIVERSITY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT VOCABULARY LESSON–

mammonism MAM-uh-niz-uhm, noun:

The greedy pursuit of riches.

We will bring to mind a young man or young woman bitterly awakened from a fancy dream of accomplishment, action or glory, forced instead to come to terms with a considerably reduced status, a betrayed love, and a hideously bourgeois world of crass mammonism and philistine taste.
— Rudyard Kipling, Kim

Claiming mutual “affection and confidence” with his collaborating reader whom he expects to agree, Dickens also indicts the false religion of Mammonism.
— Linda M. Lewis, Dickens, His Parables, and His Readers

Mammonism is an odd combination of Aramaic and Greek. The word mammon meant wealth in Aramaic, and the suffix -ism forms a noun from a verb, as in criticism and plagiarism.

Bennett’s Performance

Spent yesterday evening with Eric is his engine building room. Eric installed a Screamin Eagle oil pump and hydraulic cam plate that supports the Fueling .574 Reaper Series chain drive cams. Eric bolted the cam cover in place, pre-oiled and installed the Fueling high performance lifters, lifter lock bars and covers.

We’re scheduled for a Thursday evening session, CCI pistons, rings, cylinders, Branch-O’Keefe massaged-to-the-max heads and intake manifold, Crane roller rockers and support plate, push rod tubes and Fueling Hi Performance pushrods along with the rocker box covers to finish the build.
A detailed parts list and a complete step by step report will follow.

Starting to look like a happy 96-inch twin cam engine one more time that will be followed by a happier pilot that’s looking for miles and miles of miles and more miles.

Hardtailz in San Jose, Stay Tuned.

Ron Williams and his crew at Hardtailz will handle the install, heat cycles, road testing and tune up. A Daytona Twin Tech computer will handle the tuning system with precision. More photos and reports will follow.

Rick Tedder 124 inch Turbo Raycer

The people at J&P Cycles have been debating for the last 12 months or so when is the right time to update the popular J&P Cycles’ Vintage Catalog. And the irony is that by now, the vintage book is vintage in and by itself.

WATCH “Gunny” TAKE CHARGE IN NEW TV AD–
Too many Americans have, for one reason or another, have chosen to sit on the sidelines by not registering to vote. Unfortunately, this includes too many American gun owners. It’s part of my job to do something about that.

That’s why the NRA Freedom Action Foundation is wasting no time this year to launch our massive “Trigger the Vote” voter registration drive. Protecting our freedoms requires an informed electorate that’s motivated to go to the polls. We know that when gun owners vote, freedom wins!

But in virtually every state, you have to be registered before you can vote. That’s why the NRA Freedom Action Foundation sponsors the important “Trigger the Vote” voter registration campaign, featuring film legend Chuck Norris as our Honorary Chairman.

This year, Chuck is getting an assist from another action hero – R. Lee “Gunny” Ermey, retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant, and member of the NRA Board of Directors. We are proud that Gunny volunteered his time to film a new voter registration PSA, and we wanted to give NRA Members the first look. Here’s what Gunny had to say about the ad:

“Listen up and hear me well! This is a critical time for our nation, and too many people are sitting back to let others do the hard work. So it’s time for all of us to put some gas in it and persuade all eligible gun owners to register. That’s why I volunteered my time to film the ad shown here. Now it’s your turn and I want to see results! Start now by sending this message to everyone you know who supports the Second Amendment. I expect 110% right now from everyone who values our freedoms! NO EXCUSES. And remember — pain is just weakness leaving the body!”

– R. Lee “Gunny” Ermey, NRA Board of Directors

Sounds like he’s serious! Watch the ad here and send it to your friends, family, and fellow gun owners.

Sincerely,

Chris W. Cox
Executive Director
NRA Institute for Legislative Action

INTERMOT GRANTED USDOC TRADE FAIR CERTIFICATION–STEP PROGRAM AND FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR U.S. EXPORTERS–

Koelnmesse Inc., the Chicago-based office of the German organizer of Intermot, today announced that INTERMOT (October 3-7, 2012 in Cologne, Germany) has been granted Trade Fair Certification by the U. S. Department of Commerce. Consequently, U.S. exhibitors at the show might be eligible to receive government funding to offset part of their cost of exhibiting at this event.

The State Trade and Export Promotion Program (STEP) is a 3-year trade & export initiative authorized by the Small Business Jobs Act 2010. Funded by federal grants and matching funds from the states, the STEP Program is designed to help increase the number of companies active in exporting and to strengthen existing U.S. exporters. The SBA is authorized to grant up to $ 30 million to states each year under the program. Upon inquiry, the State Economic Development offices of California, Arizona and Oregon have already confirmed that funding through this program is anticipated to be available for the fall of 2012, coinciding with the Intermot dates.

Said Koelnmesse Inc.’s President, Mette Petersen: “Exhibiting in overseas trade shows such as Intermot provide U.S. exporters with a tremendous opportunity to generate export revenues and therefore can become a very valuable investment. The USA Pavilion at Intermot offers a unique chance to meet customers, collect market intelligence, and evaluate potential channel partners. We look forward to working with interested companies in all states on increasing their export revenues by making a strong impact at Intermot.”

Leading the U.S. companies expected to show products at Intermot will be Harley-Davidson, Polaris, Bel-Ray, K&N Engineering, National Cycle, Hot Leathers, Lethal Threat Designs, All Balls Racing and Procom Engineering – ElectroSport. 30+ U.S. companies are expected to take part in Intermot this year.

The trade fair certification by the USDOC is the agency’s official recognition of Intermot’s considerable potential for U.S. exporters to overseas markets in the two-wheeler industry. As a certified trade show, the USDOC will provide a range of services such as offering pre-show promotion, market research and counseling before, during and after the event, business lead generation, matchmaking services as well as working with U.S. exhibitors on issues such as trade mark protection. Details can be found here: http://export.gov/germany/TradeShowsEvents/FeaturedGermanTradeShows/eg_de_034820.asp

NEVER A DULL MOMENT–
Even over the weekend, new content will be flying at all the Bikernet sites. I just looked at our internal readership report for December. Some 222,000 unique users came to Bikernet. We had over 13,000 visits a day, for a total of 427,000 visits for the month, 801,000 page views, and 9.7 million hits.

This weekend, if the steam roller outside the building doesn”t shake us loose, we will post another Bikernet/Cycle Source Sweeps bike report. The first report on Ray’s 96-inch Build with RevTech, H-D, Branch, and Fueling components.

Then we are wrapping up another ATK 250 entry level road test, the lightweight Buell answer. And tomorrow Michel Paquette, the Director of Campagna trikes may be moving into the Bikernet Headquarters, while area journalists road test and photograph his trike. He rode it down from Canada.

If only I can get a couple of quiet hours, my son’s Mudflap FXR will be wired and running. We installed the new matching Rivera Primo Inc., ring gear this week. Hang on.

Ride Forever,

–Bandit
