MAKE A RUCKUS!– Lookin’ for a way to dress up your office, garage, clubhouse or maybe the wife’s fridge? Hang 1, 2 3 or a whole pack of these awesome embossed metal signs and you’re going to have the coooolest wall candy going. Ruckus Rods is the source for these thought provoking pieces of art that bring back as many memories as they do smiles. Shown here “THE AMBUSH” takes you back to a day when ambushing a pack of bikers made law enforcement’s day.

Today half the riders would probably be law enforcement officers, but the image is as exciting now as it was confrontational back when. Matter of fact, “AMBUSH” is based on an actual event that went down out in Idlewild, California back in the late 50’s. Dennis Perrin, founder of Ruckus Rods was there and he wasn’t one of the cops!

These unique sign make great gifts for any motorcycle or automotive enthusiast and make for great conversation pieces. Call direct to 805-388-7310 and be sure to head over to www.ruckusrods.com and check out the entire collection of Embossed Metal Signs, Lectric Art, Neon Clocks, Metal Embossed Posters complete with Bullet Holes, Switch Panels and more.

MRF REPORT ON PETERS INITIATIVE– the MRF along with many of our SMRO partners who have visited Washington DC to lobby this spring have taken action on this Peters initiative in person and several more SMRO’s have written to their legislators to let them know how they feel about this, at this time NO legislation has been proposed and at this time we are aware of no one looking to do so, and I can assure you we along with many of our SMRO partners are monitoring this closely and have in fact been very active on this front

The DNC, the RNC, FedDOT, and numerous federal legislators know where we stand on this issue and unless some thing changes tonight no movement on the requested raid of 2010 federal funds has occurred, can it still occur – sure it can and this is why we have our Lobbyist spend a great deal of his time on the Hill and in agency meetings so we can stand vigilant on things related to street motorcycles and motorcycling, and we stand ready to go back to the Hill and work against it if the current state changes and I am certain many SMRO’s will join us on the Hill as they recently have.

One of the most valuable tools we have in DC is that when the MRF goes to the Hill and presents a position it is through years of visits by the SMRO’s around the country with the MRF accompanying them that it is understood we are speaking for Sustaining Member SMRO’s back home, when our relationships with our federal legislators are sufficiently strong that often suffices, and where not there is work to be done both in DC and in our home states to get to a point where the relationship is in fact that strong.

Regular visits to DC with the MRF serves to strengthen that tie and then when an issue arises that is imminent the process has been established to quickly move through DC and get the job done as has been the longstanding history of the MRF and our SMRO partners

The MRF is still looking for the State Coordinator of ABATE of California Board to make an official request of the MRF and as importantly to forward a press release from ABATE of California requesting that SMRO’s support this effort that we can run in our MRF Reports and distribute on our MRF NEWS press release system. I have seen the piece titled “a Union of Motorcyclists.” but have yet to receive it from ABATE of California as a suggested document we should run with, the MRF will not pull something from the web or off one of the many e-zines and cover it.

Dave Dwyer, the MRF SMRO Representative to the Board, is on point for the MRF on this and he can be reached at DAD@mrf.org.

ABATE of California as the Sustaining Member Organization of the MRF is who we need to make the official request and in something such as this requesting monies it should come from the sitting State Coordinator, this is a courtesy I believe all organization CEO’s would expect. I have seen them come in from numerous sources but none from the State Coordinator of ABATE of California that I am aware of, again if it has in fact been made please forward immediately.

The MRF is not in a position to support this effort financially and to date with the numerous e-mails on this has the MRF received communications from any SMRO Sustaining members requesting we do so. In fact we have received communications that they would rather see the information put to the states, as it has been many times now, and let them decide on their own whether to send donations. But that they would not want to see monies they donated to the MRF go to this State cause directly from the MRF as this is not why they donated to the MRF as their federal representatives, again individual SMRO’s can certainly donate at will. This seems the most reasonable approach and in concert with what I believe you are asking of the MRF in the letter of January 24, 2008 I just received a copy of very recently.

As far as supporting a helmet fight of course the MRF does so 100%. We will certainly consider doing so with regards to this one when we receive the official request to do so directly from ABATE of California with the Press Release/Position statement that we can then forward to our SMRO’s in the manners suggested above.

PAUGHCO LAUNCHED DEDICATED WHEEL DIVISION– PAUGHCO MC is a new division of Paughco Inc. created specifically to provide aftermarket wheel manufacturers with wheel blanks of the highest possible quality.

This quality should be assured given the fact that the people behind the new enterprise have a combined total of more than eighty years of experience in the design, manufacture and sales of forged aluminum wheels and wheel blanks for motorcycles.

Talking about the new division Joe Distefano, VP of Sales, said: “This is a new division of Paughco, Inc. Paughco has consistently provided top quality part, accessories, and service to the Harley-Davidson motorcycle aftermarket industry, and this wheel division will be no exception to that long tradition that Paughco has established since 1969.

Wheels will be the only business of this new company, and not a sideline.” He continued, saying on the subject of availability: “This is the largest issue of all according to our research. When was the last time you called your current supplier and had a pre-polished wheel blank shipped within 24 hours? Answer – never. Paughco MC will maintain levels of inventory on all popular sizes in pre-polished blanks, ready to go at moments notice.”

Paughco MC wheel blank company will offer a wide range of wheel sizes in both 2D and 3D styles, and ship orders within 48 hours of confirmation.

The wheel blanks are forged in an 8,000 ton hydraulic press, utilizing the latest in wheel technology and die design. The blanks are forged conventionally to guarantee the correct material flow is obtained for the maximum in weight-to-strength ratios. Aircraft grade aluminum forgings are heat-treated to 6061-T6 and machined on brand new, dedicated CNC turning centers that are fixtured to only run motorcycle rims.

The blanks are engineered to facilitate tire installation and removal. All Paughco MC wheel blanks are pre-polished to above industry standards, and are inspected throughout the process, with a final inspection prior to shipment.

THE CONDEROSA DEVIL’S OWN DRAGSTER MAKES THE DEADLINE– Sure, it was on Sunday at noon, but I was THERE dang it! 48 hours without sleep. I brought some Armor-all to make everything look good in the show, but the show was full and everything looked cooler with Bakersfield bugs and dust all over it anyway.

Conderosa

I finally got to meet Adam Sorokin and a few other guys I’ve been wanting to shake hands with for 8 years, and saw some BADASS cars.

Again, to everyone who made sure the rail was loaded up and on it’s way, THANK YOU. Everything is on the back burner again until I pay off roughly 5k in rail bills, then I’ll find the money for re-certing my belts, a fire suit and fuel mask, a clean, minimal snout starter set-up and a few thousand bucks to run with.

HeelGuard 1

HEEL GUARD PROVIDES PIPE AND BOOT PROTECTION– Anyone who has bought a new scooter and immediately cooked their boot heel on what was a sparkling chrome exhaust pipe, knows what a bummer it can be. Not only did you mess up the pipe to the point that it may never be the same, you probably left a nice gouge in those cool new riding boots. Fret no more; the folks at HEEL GUARD can help. HEEL GUARD.INC has developed a great looking, fully functional bolt-on, boot heel and sole protector.

Available in turn down, turn out and straight styles to fit a variety of Harley-Davidson and Indian footboards. The HEEL GUARD is precision fabricated from high grade steel for a quick bolt-on installation. HEEL GUARD is finished in rugged and durable show quality chrome as well as black powdercoat.

Once bolted to the footboard, the HEEL GUARD provides a barrier between your boot and the pipe without interfering with foot control operation. HEEL GUARD is also available for the left side, if the heel shifter has been removed.

HEEL GUARD has a passenger model for the Harley-Davidson RoadKing and Dresser models. The MSRP is $64.95 for all models except the Passenger model which is $69.95.

HEEL GUARD can be ordered by calling 406-689-3102 or by going direct to www.heelguard.com. (HEEL GUARD shown mounted on existing footboards).

wheels through time

WHEELS THROUGH TIME IS SHIFTING GEARS– The Wheels Through Time Museum will be shifting its gears in 2009 towards new objectives and a new focus. America’s most renowned collection of rare vintage American Motorcycles will be relocating out of Western North Carolina to a currently undecided location in order to expand its horizons and broaden its impact.

Having relocated to Western North Carolina in 2002, the museum has been an outstanding success, preserving the history of hundreds of America’s rarest two- and four-wheeled machines and presenting them in a fascinating, natural ambience for over 280,000 visitors in just five short years. Now, the museum looks to broaden its impact, through both a new location and a new museum initiative of “Taking Wheels around the World”

“The new museum program, ‘Wheels Around the World” will allow the history of American motorcycles to be shared with a larger audience than only those able to visit the physical museum itself” says Dale Walksler, curator and founder of Wheels Through Time. “Through this new and exciting initiative, we will offer full service exhibit development, construction, and curatorial services to the countless organizations around the world who have an interest in displaying the history of the culture and sport that his influenced our society for over 100 years.”

The museum plans to collaborate with fellow enthusiasts and their notable collections, among many others, to provide these institutions with the ability to create first class exhibits telling the stories of our countries treasured motoring past.

“We are very excited to move ahead with this new program, and look forward to developing a more avid interest in the past, present and future of American Motorcycling across the country.”

In pursuing these new initiatives, Wheels Through Time will be downsizing its collection with an auction slated for September 25th-27th, 2008. Approximately 150 of the rare machines from the collection will be offered in a sale hosted by RM Auctions. This international event will be held on the museum premises, and will give many the opportunity to own some of America’s rarest two-wheeled marvels and related memorabilia from the first 100 years of America’s motorcycling.

The Wheels Through Time Scholarship Fund

As part of the museum’s efforts to develop a larger interest in motorcycling across America, Wheels Through Time will be creating a scholarship fund, which will target ambitious, young students in need of support in their efforts to make an impact on the future of our American motorcycling heritage. The Wheels Through Time Scholarship Fund will provide assistance for education to those students who are dedicated to contributing to- and developing the motorcycle industry. Whether through trade schools, marketing courses, or motorcycle design and development education, the scholarship fund will provide qualified students with financial support to get the education they need to enter the industry.

For more information, visit the museum’s website, located at www.WheelsThroughTime.com or contact the museum any time at (828) 926-6266.

ABATE OF WISCONSIN DELIVERS 500 TO THE CAPITOL ON LOBBY DAY–ABATE of WI Inc 2008 legislative agenda includes amending parts of recently passed legislation that was intended to enhance penalties for right of way violations and make motorcycle awareness such as ABATEs Share the Road program mandatory for all violators. Since this law has been in effect for more than a year and we haven’t seen any changes, this is one of our top priorities.

Also promoted in Madison were our suggestions for a state fix to the federal Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) which currently allows insurance companies to discriminate against motorcyclists by denying health insurance coverage simply because they choose to ride a motorcycle. A great amount of interest was shown by our legislators on these issues.

ABATE members and supporters also took this opportunity to re-introduce themselves to our legislators and let them know our stance on recent helmet recommendations by the NTSB and the overwhelming need for crash avoidance solutions not safer crashing. Information on our Share the Road motorcycle awareness program and our new anti-impaired riding program was also given to legislators to give examples of the tireless efforts of our organization and its members.

Pictures of the event are available on our website www.abatewis.org and again thanks to all in attendance that made this a great event.

We’ve beefed up security from Hackers. Actually I have a killer story about BMWs from Paul Garson, which should be up shortly.

BIKERNET IS ALIVE AND KICKING ONCE MORE—There’s good news around the Bikernet Headquarters. The lovely Nyla, who keeps me alive and whiskey in the cupboards delivered American Honey by Wild Turkey. It’s delicious and did you know the meaning of Honeymoon? After getting married you’re supposed to stay so busy in bed that you don’t eat but drink only whiskey with honey in it. Now I know why. This shit is amazing. I immediately contacted Wild Turkey and they responded:

Thank you very much for contacting us regarding the new Wild Turkey American Honey. It has been a little over a year now that this product is out in the market. It replaced the Wild Turkey Liqueur with Honey. Given your inquiry we thought we would share some of the inside story on the new America Honey. When reviewing the Wild Turkey product line Master Distiller Jimmy Russell decided that the Honey Liqueur was due for an update. After some consideration, he determined that it was time to bring back his original formula from the early 1970’s. After changing the formula to ensure that the quality and flavor of Wild Turkey Bourbon play a more prominent role in the product taste profile, Mr. Russell is now convinced that the new American Honey allows his real Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey to truly work it’s “magic” with the hand selected American honey that is used in the production process.

We are quite sure that you’ll find this original formula to be as pleasing and rewarding as you would expect.

Regarding this turning 60 shit. I don’t want to belabor this milestone. I guess I feel officially old. On the other hand I want to thank all the readers and riders who have allowed me to create, build, and write for almost 40 years. I can’t tell you how honored I feel to reflect my thoughts, notions, experiences, and love affairs on paper and entertain at the same time. Thank you for the opportunity.

Knockout pipes
Here’s an new set of pipes from Knockout Motorcycle Company. We’ll have a tech shortly.

On the other hand, I may be old, but I’m way back from the over-the-hill precipice. There’s considerable more whacky shit coming from these old bones. Hell, you’ll see two books published this year and we just kicked off Bikernet Metric. I ain’t slowin’ down.

Let’s ride
