ORIGINAL JOHNNY CHOP BIKE FOR SALE–Hello my name is Robynn Kosobud. I found your email on a tribute page for Johnny Chop. My husband and I bought a 1948 Panhead from Johnny in Santa Cruz back in 1998. He was down on his luck at the time and needed some cash.

He reluctantly sold us his pride and joy. He informed us that it was his first bike he built and he had so many wonderful memories with the chopper. I have the original bill of sale that was hand written by Johnny Vasco.

We are also in need of cash and hate to sell it. We wanted to contact friends and family of Johnny’s because we want the next owners to appreciate the sentimental value of this special bike. If you or know anyone interested in this unique bike let me know and I would gladly send photos.

Anyone who was a friend of his could verify the authenticity of the bike. We never modified anything on the bike. It is in the exact condition we purchased it in.

GOLD COAST BIKE WEEK CONFIRMED AS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OFFICIAL AFFILIATE– AMD Magazine has confirmed that Australia’s Gold Coast Bike Week is the latest custom bike event to become an Official Affiliate to the World Championship of Custom Bike Building.The one-day custom show, to be held on Saturday August 30th at the Carrara Sports Complex, will see a top prize of some AU$ 10,000.00 awarded to the winner of the AMD Affiliate Award, being an expenses contribution for the winner to compete at the 2009 Official World Championship of Custom Bike Building (OWC) in the United States.Staged each year during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, South Dakota, USA (2008 is August 3rd to 6th inclusive) at the event’s own Champions Park venue on Lazelle Street in downtown Sturgis, the OWC is firmly established as the world’s most prestigious custom motorcycle design and engineering competition.

BIKERNET OPENS CONVENIENCE STORE– A biker walks into a convenience store at about 2:30 in the morning. He walks up to the cashier and asks “Where are your tampons?”

The clerk goes, “Right down on aisle three, on the end to the left.” Biker disappears down the aisle and finally, about 45 min. later he returns carrying toilet paper and cotton balls.

The cashier starts to ring him up and goes, “You know, I know it’s none of my business, but I thought you were here for tampons.”

Biker goes, “Well, last week I sent my ol’ lady out for smokes and she comes back with Zig Zags and tobacco, by God that fucking bitch can roll her own too.”

MORE AND MORE COPS IN SOUTH FLORIDA GETTING BUSTED– Two Broward County sheriff’s deputies charged in sting operation A Broward Sheriff’s deputy nicknamed “Wingnut” used his badge and expertise to aid a drug smuggling operation, then recruited a fellow deputy he said had a history of drug-dealing to help out, federal prosecutors charged Monday.

Deputy Richard Tauber, a 14-year veteran once fired for cavorting with prostitutes and unsavory characters ? but later reinstated ? and two civilian friends were charged in federal court with smuggling cocaine, diamonds and Krugerrand gold coins. A separate FBI complaint charged Deputy Kevin “Tattoo” Frankel with running surveillance for one of Tauber’s cocaine deliveries for $3,000.

Tauber, 37, of Boca Raton was released on $600,000 bail. Frankel, of Lake Worth, is behind bars pending a bail hearing scheduled Thursday in Fort Lauderdale. Both men worked in Deerfield Beach. The two civilians, Robert Baccari, 38, and Christopher Provenzano, 37, both of Boca Raton, also are being held pending a Thursday hearing.

The arrests cap a 16-month month investigation of Tauber, who has a history of problems with the department.”We’ve been watching him for quite a while now; we’ve gone on our gut instinct because a leopard doesn’t change his spots,” Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti said Monday of Tauber. Stopped by a Maryland state trooper on Nov. 27, Tauber pulled out his Sheriff’s Office badge, then continued transporting what he thought was $125,000 worth of gold and silver coins to a destination in Connecticut. He wore his deputy’s uniform to a meeting with FBI agents posing as drug dealers and used knowledge he learned from four years patrolling Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to explore ways to elude drug-detecting dogs.

The four men put their freedom in jeopardy for a total of $51,000 in payments. Tauber received $25,000, and Frankel, who complained the men were taking chances and not getting enough cash, got $3,000.

After his arrest Wednesday, Tauber became an informant against Frankel, describing his friend on the force as a “criminal” and telling FBI agents he paid Frankel to conduct counter surveillance during a delivery of cocaine to the Pompano Beach Air Park, authorities said.

On Thursday, with Tauber wearing a wire for the FBI, Frankel confirmed his involvement with the drug delivery and discussed plans to help a future drug-running operation, the complaint states.

The arrests are the latest in a string of law enforcement agents caught in FBI stings. Although the cases are unrelated, all involved similar investigative methods: undercover FBI agents pretending to work for organized crime and paying the officers to take ever bigger roles in criminal activities.

Two weeks ago, FBI agents charged two veteran Miami officers with protecting FBI agents posing as mobsters during a cocaine operation. Last year, four Hollywood officers pleaded guilty to protecting illegal drug running, stolen bond and jewelry shipments and crooked card games. A judge sentenced them to nine to 14 years in prison.

In all three cases, the supposed criminals were undercover FBI agents, the drugs phony and virtually every conversation caught on tape.

Monday’s arrest was different in one way: the Sheriff’s Office initiated the investigation, then brought in FBI agents to help with a “very complicated” case, Lamberti said.

Tauber has a long history of problems and Lamberti said Sheriff’s Office brass had watched him carefully for years. During the investigation, Tauber admitted receiving oral sex from a prostitute but said he thought she was a “dancer or a model.”

He was also accused of spending long hours on and off duty at a motel known for prostitution and managed by a man who had open arrest warrants.

The Sheriff’s Office tried unsuccessfully in 2000 to fire Tauber. “We did fire him and did everything possible to get him off the force, but unfortunately, an arbitrator gave him his job back,” Lamberti said.

LACONIA SPOTTY WEATHER, EXPENSIVE GAS, DIAL DOWN BIKE WEEK EXPECTATIONS– LACONIA, N.H. –Gray skies, aging fans and high gas prices are some of the factors behind organizers’ modest expectations for Laconia Bike Week this year.

The 84th annual Bike Week kicked of this weekend in Laconia, where Weirs Beach is the center of all things motorcycle-related in New Hampshire for the next week. But even as the roads filled with squads of rumbling Harleys, Bike Week director Charlie St. Clair said he expected a good — but not great — turnout for the spring ritual.

“With the economy the way it is and gas prices so high, there’s no way we’re going to set any record this year, even if the sun shines for the rest of the week,” he said.

St. Clair said Bike Week attendance has dropped by one-third since 2004, when 425,000 people attended. He expected that figure to stay level in 2007, but noted that even with flat attendance, Bike Week still pumps $140 million a year into New Hampshire.

He and others said they already are looking forward to a better turnout next year, when Bike Week celebrates its 85th birthday.

“I think this is going to be one of those average years and that in the future you won’t see a big spike in attendance until every fifth year, one that ends in five or a zero,” St. Clair said. “We’re already looking forward to next year, which will be the 85th anniversary.”

Bikers are changing and so are Bike Week merchants, St. Clair and others said. St. Clair said many vendors have abandoned expensive rental spaces at Weirs Beach for cheaper business opportunities, and bikers also are branching off, heading to spots across the Lakes Region and even the North Country.

Age also is a factor — the baby boomers who make up the majority of Bike Week fans are less willing to travel long distances and younger bikers are more interested in newer events in Texas and Arizona, said Mark Creswell, a Florida bike enthusiast who works with Bike Week vendors.St. Clair agrees that newer rallies are competing with Laconia but said he sees plenty of young bikers drawn to Bike Week.

Al Solomon of Alton, said he’s been attending Bike Week for years and is still enjoying himself. He said he’s not a big fan of attempts to make Bike Week more family friendly to attract bigger crowds.

“Make no mistake about it: the partying is still going on, and that’s what I come here for,” he said.
