NEWCOMER SCOOPS WIN AT FIRST WORLD CHAMPS AFFILIATE EVENT IN AUSTRALIA– Gold Coast Bike Week, August 30th 2008:JOE Schembri, a drag racer and custom drag race car fabricator and parts machinist from Glenmore Park, New South Wales, scooped top honors with his first ever custom bike build at the 10th Anniversary Gold Coast Bike Week (GCBW) event, an hour south of Brisbane on Australia’s East Coast.

This was the first year that the Australian custom industry had staged a World Championship Affiliate event. AMD would like to express its thanks to the event organizers, their sponsors, the Championship program’s Official Partners and the Australian custom bike building community itself for helping to make this latest extension of the Affiliate network a success.

The Winning scooter.

The warm welcome with which integration of the Australian custom industry into the World Championship network was received is greatly appreciated and we are delighted to be able to help provide a global showcase opportunity for the outstanding craftsmanship and practical design and engineering thinking that Australia’s builders are already noted for.

The win scores Schembri an AU $10,000.00 expenses contribution towards competing at the 2009 Official World Championship of Custom Bike Building at next year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally (Champions Park, Lazelle/3trd, Sturgis, August 2nd through 5th 2009) from Championship Affiliate sponsor and Official Partner Australian Motorcycle Imports.

Event judging was conducted under Official World Championship rules with the competitors themselves choosing their winner. Independent scrutiny of the judging process and results oversight was provided for AMD and the event organizers by visiting VIP guest Paul Yaffe and representatives from Heavy Duty and Ozbike, two of Australia’s internationally recognized custom bike magazines.

Called ‘Hide & Seek’, Schembri’s Ultima 100 inch engine rigid features an advanced one-off own design and made front end and a level of finish and attention to detail that is characteristic of the standards that Australian customizers seek.

Schembri’s win was by the narrowest of margins (one point!) from Dylan Goldfinch (DG Design, www.dgdesigninc.com) whose 125 inch Patrick engined, modified Independent Cycle ‘LowLife’ framed softail called ‘Spank’ (I didn’t ask!) won many admirers.

ANTIQUE MOTORCYCLE CLUB OF AMERICA AND BIKERNET CONTEST TO ENCOURAGE NEW AND YOUNG MEMBERS–I talked the board into supporting my 45 Flathead build contest to entice new members to join. I have to have the club’s attorney approve my press release. I plan on launching this next week sometime.

I will hopefully have the website ready to link it to sometime in the next ten days.

Our knucklehead run is going really well. Eleven knuckleheads, and no serious trouble, since South Dakota which was 1800 miles away. Wish you were here to enjoy it with us.

Saxon

Saxon Motorcycles Europe launches new model in Europe Saxon ?Henchman? old school for a good price!– Saxon Motorcycles Europe launches her new European model at the European Bike Week in Austria: the Henchman.

The Henchman is a slightly villainous, ?hard-core? bike with a twinch of the dark side. It combines the looks of a classic old school chopper, but is built with modern technology. It is a new ?oldschool?: a no- nonsense bike presenting a beautiful style of the old days, but with the comfort and quality of today.

?It is fantastic to be able to launch a new model so quickly? says Frank Vermeulen, ?mostly because the price of this new bike will be lower than our current models.? He adds. ?Like our other models the Henchman can be custom build to the wishes of the buyer, herewith we offer the same possibilities as for our Warlord and Firestorm? adds Rinke Andringa.

The Henchman is a real hardtail in the bobber-style, equipped with a 96? (1566cc) S&S engine, a 200 rear tire, 6-speed transmission and a spring seat. Optionally the Henchman can be equipped with a springer fork and the dealer can provide the seat with shocks or even a pneumatic seating system. Saxon uses Brembo brakes in front and rear, just like the Firestorm and the Warlord, current models of Saxon. These bikes are bigger and built with a softail-frame, a 260 rear tyre and a right side drive.

Saxon aims to obtain the European Type Approval for the Henchman this year, so the bikes will be available in Europe and Switserland before 2009.

All Saxon bikes have a 2-year factory warranty.

KRAWIEC WINS RINGERS BIKE BATTLE IN ALL-HARLEY FINAL–Krawiec Defeats Hines to Claim $25,000 Bonus at Indy U.S. Nationals.

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. (August 30, 2008) ? Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Eddie Krawiec won the eight-rider Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle bonus event at the NHRA Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. It was the first NHRA event win for Krawiec, who earned a $25,000 bonus for his victory, and the fifth consecutive year that a Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines rider has raced a Harley-Davidson V-Rod to win the Pro Stock Motorcycle bonus event at the U.S. Nationals.

?This is huge for the Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines team,? said Krawiec. ?Harley-Davidson is celebrating its 105th anniversary in Milwaukee this weekend, so this couldn’t have come at a better time.?

The final round of the Ringers Battle was an all-Harley affair, as Krawiec faced his Screamin? Eagle/Vance & Hines teammate, Andrew Hines, in the race for the top prize. Hines fouled at the line after battling launch issues with his Screamin? Eagle V-Rod in earlier rounds.

?I knew that I was probably going to red-light,? said Hines, who has reached the Ringers final for the fifth-straight year. ?The bike still reacts too fast to keep the light green. But after I beat Matt Smith and realized that we?d continue our Ringers Battle streak, I was pretty happy.?

Eight riders qualified for the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle based on season results in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle events. Krawiec advanced to the final by beating Rush Racing Products Buell rider Angelle Sampey, who broke at the starting line, and Chip Ellis, who fouled out. In both rounds Krawiec made outstanding 6.99-second runs. Hines made a 6.98-second run to beat Geico Suzuki rider Karen Stoffer in his first-round match, and then used a 0.003-second reaction time to score a 6.98 to 6.97 hole-shot win over NitroFish Buell rider Matt Smith in round two to advance to the final.

If Krawiec wins in Pro Stock Motorcycle eliminations at the 54th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals on Monday, he’ll receive a $10,000 double-up bonus from NHRA for sweeping both of this weekend?s races..

The Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Pro Stock Motorcycle team is sponsored by Ford Truck, Dunlop, Matco Tools and S100.

Jason Michael Carroll doesn?t look like he sounds ? and that intrigue only heightens both realities of the tangy vocalist from North Carolina. After all, to hear him is to hear a straight-up, full-tilt, no-frills country singer who works a groove like a mule team, a melody like a barrel racer going for time, and a tear jerker with the dignity of Sunday grace. And fans have loved what they?ve heard ? sending Carroll?s debut album, Waitin? in the Country, to #1 in its first week of release, and making his first singles, ?Alyssa Lies? and ?Livin? Our Love Song,? back-to-back Top 5 hits ? with Carroll becoming Billboard?s Top New Country Artist of 2007.

But to look at the rangy 29-year-old is to see a twinkle in the eye of a kid who could be just as at home on a surf or skateboard, a bit of mischief and kicked-back cool that says suburban sprawl and good times found where they fall.

Carroll not only isn?t afraid of the contradictions, he leans into them with a freewheeling abandon. To listen to the thump?n?bump of ?Waitin? in the Country,? with its great big, descending bass-line and big-flanged electric guitars; the chuggingly insistent ?I Can Sleep When I?m Dead,? with its turbo-diesel chording; or the romping, universal whirl of ?Anywhere USA,? with its sawing fiddles and wailing steel guitar, is to understand this is a young man who likes to have economy-sized fun. Yet just as quickly, he can sink his teeth into the fight-for-the-one-you?re-meant-to-be-with intensity of ?Love Won?t Let Me,? the celebration of life and enduring love in ?Livin? Our Love Song,? or the resolved acceptance of life on its terms with ?Let It Rain,? which speaks to a seriousness that exists below the obvious inside the emerging singer/songwriter.

Nowhere is that seriousness more powerfully reflected than in Carroll?s debut single, ?Alyssa Lies,? a song about child abuse ? told from the perspective of a classmate ? that has an impossibly sobering end. Though not the feel-good ?rocking country? that Carroll ? a devotee of Steve Wariner, Randy Travis, Radney Foster and especially Garth Brooks ? naturally is drawn to, it was a realization that the dedicated father of four couldn?t sidestep.

?I started that song when I lived in Texas four years ago,? he recalls. A poem written by a friend, as well as news Carroll had been seeing at the time, became the catalysts. ?You get thinking about how deep it is, how people don?t want to hear something like that, but then you keep hearing stories on the news ? you look at your children and realize how fragile those young lives are.

?All these stories of children being abused by their parents, and it occurred to me how it must seem to a little girl not quite understanding, but knowing the way children do. So I dug in, and I wrote it, really worked on it for a long time because of how important what it?s saying is ? and in the end, it?s a song I wrote all by myself.?

The power of the lyric, and Carroll?s performance, touched a nerve with listeners across the country. Already a Top 10 country airplay single weeks before his album?s February 6, 2007 release, ?Alyssa Lies? became the fastest-rising debut single by a male country artist in 2006. The song also set a record in its first week of availability, earning the highest country new artist debut in the history of SoundScan?s Digital Songs chart. And while that all sounds rather commercial in light of the subject matter, it?s a reflection of the impact and resonance of a genuinely heartfelt song. As Carroll has visited radio and made appearances in city after city, people have shared their real-life stories and their thanks for the voice he gave them and others, even to the point of approaching him to say, ?I?m not an Alyssa, but,? or perhaps more poignantly, ?I was an Alyssa.?

?That may be the song I?m the proudest of on this record. Not because I wrote it or sang it, but because I really mean it ? and believe it may get people to talk about the unspeakable, to maybe not wait until it?s too late somewhere else. If a song I touched could do that, well, then ??

And it?s his willingness to go deep that gives Carroll so much of his impact.

Charriotsr

Born in North Carolina to a preacher, the youngster spent years not being allowed to listen to ?secular music.? No rock, no pop, no country ? and other than the occasional moment stolen in a friend?s parents? car on the way somewhere, Carroll?s musicality came in a rush when he began working in a motor shop.

Suddenly, it was full immersion ? though country spoke the loudest to him, the young man?s break came from a pop radio station?s karaoke contest, which he entered and won ? and in doing so, was asked to join a local country band that was losing its singer. But while they were playing at playing, Carroll was spending his off-nights at the Longbranch Saloon in Raleigh, making friends and in-roads.

When an offer came to play the legendary club and his buddies had other things to do, there came a crossroads. Carroll was handed a pink sheet of paper with the news that he was being terminated. Having helped his bandmates step it up, they responded to the challenge by retreating ? making the scrappy 24-year-old that much more determined.

And in his conviction, Carroll was willing to sing any time, any place, anywhere. And he opened up that cavernous baritone with abandon ? even singing on an American Idol-type knock-off for local FOX affiliates.
