BIKERNET TECH EDITOR GETS A FLAT TIRE, PANICS–If you ride your motorcycle enough sooner or later you will get a flat tire.Riding home on I-95 after judging a bike show in South Florida I got a roofing nail in my rear tire.
The bead on the Continental Milestone did its job and I was able to get the bike stopped safely.
The thing was to get off the highway and wait for a brother with a trailer to come and get me.

Ladies and Gentlmen….START YOUR LAWYERS!– Lawsuits in Myrtle Beach are already starting. Their city attorney is going to be a busy boy.
A Virginia legal firm that specializes in motorcycle law has filed the first law suit to challenge Myrtle Beach’s new ordinances targeting the spring motorcycle rallies.
The suit filed in Horry County’s 15th Judicial Circuit on behalf of two Myrtle Beach residents and motorcyclists, William and Carol O’Day, challenges the city’s new helmet and noise ordinances.
The suit questions whether it’s OK for the city to supersede state law in both cases. The state says people 21 and older do not have to wear helmets while riding bikes, and it doesn’t spell out exact noise standards.
Through its ordinances and amendments, the city declares the failure to wear a helmet a civil infraction, defines noise standards for motorcycles and specifies what kinds of mufflers meet its regulations.
”It’s pretty simple,” said Tom McGrath, whose Motorcycle Law Group filed the suit. “It’s really a question of whether it’s constitutional. Does state law prevail?”
Greenville attorney Suzanne Coe said Friday she planned to file suit in federal court in Florence on Monday morning, challenging the three ordinances and amendments that have so far gone into effect. That suit had not been filed as of ate Monday afternoon.
Coe, who is preparing a suit on behalf of The Dog House, The Masters’ Club and Myrtlebeachbikeweek.com, among other business, said the ordinances are vague, interfere with people’s First Amendment rights and could interfere with interstate commerce, because many of the businesses that participate in the rallies are based in other states.
Coe could not be reached this morning for comment on when she expects to file her suit.

The Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau kindly requests more sport and educational gifts. They also ask that there would be please be no stuffed toys, as they already have a very large supply. There is always a great need of items for teens and preteens some suggested items are music gift certificates, cd walkmans, blow dryers, curling irons, make up kits, store gift certs.

THE SECOND ANNUAL PETER MAKRIS MEMORIAL RUN JUNE 14 EVENT GROWS AS BIKERS AND BOATERS RAISE MORE FUNDS AND FUN FOR LACONIA FIRE DEPARTMENT LIFE-SAVING FUND– As a benefit for the Laconia Fire Department?s Life Savings Fund, the Second Annual Peter Makris Memorial Run is ready to follow its initial year?s success with an even bigger bike and boat event. Says Laconia Fire Chief, Ken Erickson, ?This year, we have a history to build on and a new goal for improved equipment. We have even more community enthusiasm and though we were overwhelmed by the response last year–this year, people can expect even more fun!?
The 2007 inaugural Boat and Motorcycle Run Around Lake Winnipesaukee raised over $22,000 for the Lifesaving Fund, which supports the Fire Department?s water rescue unit; the run had over 200 registrants and was sponsored by national and local businesses and individuals.
This year, the registration will start at 9:30 AM at the NASWA with a hearty brunch, provided by Battlegreen Foods. Participants will receive a T-shirt, arm band, a memorial pin. A post-run bountiful Pig Roast and Buffet lunch is also included in the $40 fee. A $35 pre-registration at the NASWA is available through June 12. For $50, VIP boaters and bikers lead the pack and enjoy reserved docking and parking.
?The fantastic spread by Battlegreen alone is worth the price of admission!? says event chair, Marilyn DeMartini, a long-time NASWA fan and friend, ?Battlegreen surprised us all last year and has even more in store for this year!?
The police and antique fire-truck-escorted ride travels from the NASWA to Meredith Center Harbor, Moultonboro, Wolfboro and Alton Bay . Boaters make the trip around the Lake, stopping at the Laconia Fire Dept. Rescue Boat at Alton Bay to pick up a special gift from Mount Gay Rum, on to Wolfboro for a surprise from Jagermeister, then return to the NASWA.
?Live music, raffles, a silent auction of valuable items and fan-fare all make this run much more of a party than a Memorial. Peter would have wanted it that way,? says Cynthia Makris, general manager of the NASWA Resort. The Marine Leathernecks Motorcycle Club is an important guest of this event in honor of Makris? long-time devotion to the group and its support throughout his illness.
through the NASWA Resort by friends, family and employees, in memory of Makris, the owner of the NASWA who lost his fight against cancer last February. His wife, Hope, is the second generation matriarch of the resort, which was started by her mother and father, Fannie and Jim Salta, in 1935. Makris was a well-known and respected fixture at the NASWA, as well as a dedicated U.S. Marine, boater and biker and most registrants and sponsors participated in his honor. ?We loved Peter!? said Steve Irons, general manager of Manchester and Nashua Harley Davidson a returning sponsor, ?This is a great new tradition for Bike Week in Laconia?now in its 85th year!? Makris was a community leader, lawyer and businessman and was instrumental in the development of the Laconia Life Saving Fund and the initial purchase of the Fire Department?s rescue boat, which is not funded by the City. ?This rescue service is of paramount importance to everyone who uses our beautiful lake,? said Erikson, ?We are grateful for the private support that helps maintain and train our force and helps us to continue to save lives year-around. ?We were so gratified by the outpouring of love and respect for my father,? said Cynthia Makris, general manager of the NASWA, ?He is missed by all of us, but this event and others in the future, will keep his memory and name alive in Laconia.?

THE END–All over the Southwest folks are gearing up for Las Vegas Bike Fest and the Smoke Out West in Cottonwood, Arizona.
