PAINT YOUR RIDE award

PPG AWARDS HOT WHEELS SPECTRAFLAME PAINT YOUR RIDE CONTEST TROPHY —STRONGSVILLE, Ohio ? December 2, 2008 ? PPG Automotive Refinish awarded the 2008 PPG Hot Wheels Spectraflame PAINT YOUR RIDE Contest trophy November 5, at the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas. Accepting the award were Jim and Melinda Cooper of Laguna Hills, California, co-owners of the winning entry, a 1956 Chevrolet Handyman 2-door station wagon. The award ceremony took place at the PPG exhibit booth with Larry Wood, Mattel, Inc. Hot Wheels chief designer presenting the trophy.

Contest entrants created original paint schemes for their vehicles using the eye-catching Hot Wheels Spectraflame colors available in PPG?s Vibrance Collection of automotive coatings. The Coopers? car featured a striking finish of Hot Wheels Spectraflame Medium Sapphire with dramatic contrasting silver flames. It was selected from a field of 12 highly-competitive finalists that included entries from custom painters, car builders and hot rod enthusiasts.

?All the entries were truly spectacular, so it is a real honor to be named the winner,? said Jim Cooper. The Coopers received a trophy case with an exclusive Hot Wheels? 1/18? scale model version of the winning paint scheme. The scheme will be reproduced on a future production Hot Wheels toy car Mattel, Inc. will introduce in 2009. The car, which was on display at SEMA and featured in a recent PPG Repaint Reporter magazine article, will also be highlighted in full color along with the other finalists in a 2009 PPG calendar.

PAINT YOUR RIDE Contest entries were reviewed by a panel of judges well-known in custom car circles, including Wood, Dave Perewitz of Perewitz Cycle Fabrication, Paul Stoll, PPG?s custom painting trainer, Brian Brennan of Street Rodder, and Ed Capen of Goodguys Rod & Custom Association. The announcement of the winner was originally made by PPG at the 11th Annual Goodguys PPG Nationals in Columbus, Ohio this past July. Wood acknowledged how hard it was to select just one winner, ?We were so impressed with all the finalist cars. It was a very difficult decision. . . . but in the end we all agreed on the Chevy Wagon. It had everything ? awesome paint, cool graphics, and a great overall look.?

BIKERNET 5-BALL RACING DOG FOR SALE–A guy is driving around the back woods of Georgia and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: ‘Talking Dog for Sale ‘

He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the back yard and sees a nice looking Beagle sitting there.

‘You talk?’ he asks.

‘Yep,’ the Beagle replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says ‘So, what’s your story?’

The Beagle looks up and says, ‘Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA and they had me sworn into the toughest branch of the armed services…the US Army Special Forces. You know the reputation of them Green Berets.’

In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders; because no one figure d a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running, but the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn’t getting any younger. So, I decided t o settle down.

I retired from the Army (8 dog years is 56 Corps years) and signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I’m just retired.’

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

‘Ten dollars,’ the guy says.

‘Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?’

‘Because he ‘s such a bullshitter. He never did any of that shit. He was in the Navy’

LEGISLATIVE ISSUES ACROSS THE ATLANTIC–The second edition of the European Road Safety Day ? which took place in Paris on October 13 – had the objective to discuss EU road safety targets and means to achieve them, with a special focus on urban accidents and vulnerable road users.

The European Commission?s initiative stressed once more the necessity to enhance dialogue between stakeholders in order to find out specific solutions, which take all road users? needs into account. Only a balanced traffic mix can guarantee mobility for all.

Fortunately, the use of motorcycles – but also scooters and mopeds – is recognised more and more by European citizens as a solution to beat increasing congestion on our roads. This trend is making road authorities more aware of the specific needs of these vehicles and their users, and interesting national initiatives are emerging throughout Europe.

The importance of road infrastructure has now also been recognised as a priority to improve road safety and FEMA warmly welcomed the final vote of the Directive on Road Infrastructure Safety Management, supported by the European Parliament and the Council.

Of course, there is still a long way ahead before it becomes natural to integrate PTWs by default in all transport policies. But we are hopefully going in the right direction…

BIKERNET TO MEET WITH MIC REGARDING SEMA MOTORCYCLE COUNCIL–I suggest you go to Diamond Bar before your meeting with the MIC and meet with SEMA attheir offices and see for yourself. I can tell you over and over howunbelievably good SEMA will be for the motorcycle industry but you are justgoing to have to live it like I did.

You would not believe how many peoplewere against ARMO (auto restorers) joining SEMA. The restoration industry had no industryand SEMA has helped that industry 10 fold.

Oil Filters

S&S OIL FILTERS NOW AVAILABLE–When you are the leader in engine manufacturing you worry about the little things and how they might affect your product. You may not think an oil filter is important to how an engine runs, but it really is. Single and dual cam engines have very different ways of filtering oil?the single cam filters it after it leaves the engine, the dual cam engine filters oil before it makes its way into the engine. Because of this, different flow rates in the filter media are required.

S&S offers filters specifically for single cam engines?PN 31-4101 black and 31-4102 chrome?that feature a micron rating of 25. This is just enough for this type of engine to allow proper oil flow and no restriction. For the dual cam engines S&S offers two filters?PN 31-4103 black and 31-4104 chrome?with an anti-drain back valve and 7 micron filer media.

You may think the smaller filter media is the way to go for all bikes, but you would be wrong. More restrictive flow on a single cam engine will back oil up trying to exit the engine resulting in a filled crankcase, sumping and plenty of oil carryover. Exactly what you don?t want to happen.

Invest in your engine?whether it is an S&S or any other?buy purchasing the right filter for it. The black S&S filters have an MSRP of $10.45 and the chrome are just $12.95 and you can count on them working properly.
