BIKERNET 5-BALL RACING TEAM OFFICIAL ART REWORKED BY THE MASTER– Like planned, I finished reworking the Racing Team art last week.Now it’s closer to my original vision and the digital color study.It looks even better than the photo. Hope to get a better image with a scan.
Here’s what I did.1. 5 Ball: Reworked the highlight, added secondary reflections and shading
2. Helmet: Shaded near edge and under women, Blue pinstriped the scallops, and highlighted.
3. Background: Reworked the blue outlines (they faded), and darkened outer edges with airbrush.
4. Sprayed entire art with satin clear coat to protect.
All that’s left is to scan it for a better image for my files, put it back in frame,and write the Step-by-Step process from start to finish.
I’ll likely also post the step by step on my blog, and hopefully you will post the process on Bikernet.
There will be about 18-20 images for the whole process.

AUSTRALIAN SHOW WINNER CHECKS IN– Thanks for the interest in my latest bike, here’s a bit of info about it.I just picked up the title of National Australian Custom Bike Championand picked up a beauty of a prize and a S&S 93cu knucklehead engine supplied by Australia’s East coast custom, which I am sure will come in handy for my next project.
I go by the name RHC “Robb Handcrafted Cycles.” The current bike is a ’69 XLCH Sportster fitted with big valves, heavy porting, P cams, an S&S super E, and a Joe Hunt magneto. I radically modified the cam cover, rocker boxes and kick shaft support, and fitted an alternator conversion. This is all sitting in a 1-inch off a 4130 chromemoly custom chassis built by a great mate, Luke from Gworks Custom Cycles.
Front end comes via a Ducati 916, a set of blackstone tech carbon fiber wheels keep it off the ground, and everything was handmade, including all the carbon fiber work which consist of tanks, seat, primary cover, rear guard, chain guard, exhaust shield, which reminds me a lot of work went into the exhaust which exits under the bike through an aluminum muffler. The heat shields keep the heat away from the rear set controls, which I fabed up too. All the brake rotors are one-off, which make this puppy stop on a dime. I am extremely happy with the bike’s handling in the go, turn, stop department. The bike only weighs 357pounds.
I think there were not too many parts on the bike that didn’t escaped heavy modification in one way or another. The bike has been so well accepted down here since it’s very rideable, practical bike. Also it wasn’t a big dollar bike built in a fully equipped workshop, just one guy, in his shed out in the backyard! Now my plans are set on the AMD 2010 with the knucklehead!!

JUDGE LETS MYRTLE BEACH BIKER LAWS RIDE– Disappointed with a judge’s ruling Tuesday to allow Myrtle Beach’s new bike rules to take effect as planned, two city residents suing the city because of its efforts to curb the May bike rallies have vowed to fight on.
“This isn’t about the rallies. This is about the freedoms we have,” said resident, motorcyclist and motel owner William O’Day. “As soon as you stop fighting for your freedoms, you lose them.”
Horry County Circuit Court Judge Michael Baxley declined to side with O’Day and his wife, Carol O’Day, on Tuesday and stop the city from enforcing its new helmet law and an amendment to its noise ordinance specifying required labeling on mufflers.

?Meanwhile, the Myrtle Beach City Council on Tuesday afternoon passed the first draft of an ordinance repealing the amendment to the noise law that requires Environmental Protection Agency labels on mufflers, saying it was redundant now that it has set a decibel limit for nonemergency motor vehicles. The ordinance requires a second approval, but if it passes, it could negate the second count of the O’Days’ lawsuit. The revision also included repealing the portion of the law that said all vehicles must have continuously functioning mufflers, because the state already has such a law.
The O’Days’ attorney, Virginia-based Tom McGrath, asked Baxley to rule immediately because some of the new laws, including the helmet law, go into effect Saturday.
Baxley declined to prohibit the city from holding administrative hearings to deal with the civil infractions that will result from some of the 15 laws and amendments it passed last fall.
McGrath called the system a “motorcycle court” that has not been overseen by the state, and said the S.C. law has no provision allowing the city to create an administrative court process for civil infractions.
After listening to both sides and asking several questions of each, Baxley took about 15 minutes to make his decision, saying the lawsuit will still go forward, but that because the helmet law is not in effect yet and no hearings have been held in the administrative court, it’s too soon to say they should be stopped.
Cindy Graham Howe, representing the city, contended the civil infraction tickets that will be handed out for motorcyclists and scooter riders not wearing helmets will not be any different than parking tickets.
Co-attorney Michael Battle addressed McGrath’s argument by saying that impounding motorcycles for muffler violations is no different than what is done for other vehicle defects such as a broken tail light or headlamp.
The city said it passed the helmet law to help prevent serious head injuries and deaths.
“The state law says helmets are required for people under 21, period. We would like the state to pass a helmet law for everyone, but it hasn’t, so we did,” city spokesman Mark Kruea said.
But the O’Days’ supporters are skeptical.
“If the city is so concerned about our safety, why did they wait until now to make a helmet law?” Michele Taylor asked. “Where were they 25 years ago?”
She said she went to Tuesday’s hearing to support her friends, and even though the O’Days are the only plaintiffs in the lawsuit, “they speak for all of us.”

ROW (RIGHT-OF-WAY) BILL FILED IN NEW MEXICO–A Failure to Yield the Right of Way bill has been introduced in New Mexico by State Representative Rick Miera, a longtime motorcyclists? rights advocate and member of the National Coalition of Motorcyclists Legislative Task Force (NCOM-LTF).
The bill will increase the penalties imposed for Failing to Yield the Right of Way. The current penalties for Failure to Yield is a fine of $25.00 to $50.00 no matter the severity of the accident. Careless driving which also falls under the Failure to Yield Statutes is only a $125.00 fine! HB 290 would increase the penalties to $200.00 or 30 day suspension of driver?s license causing NO great bodily harm or death. Great Bodily harm would hold a penalty of $500.00 or 30 day suspension of driver?s license. Failing to Yield causing Death would hold a penalty of $1000.00 or 6 months suspension of driver?s license.
HB 290 is now headed to the Transportation and Public Works Committee, and concerned riders are being asked by the New Mexico Motorcyclists Rights Organization, ABATE and the Confederation of Clubs to contact their legislators seeking support for the proposed ROW legislation. MILWAUKEE (February 26, 2009) ? For thousands of female motorcyclists, hope springs eternal at Daytona Beach Bike Week this year. As a new day dawns on the motorcycle riding season, female riders hope for two wheels and hundreds of miles of open blacktop, clear skies, wind in their face, breathtaking sunsets and unique experiences with their fellow riders. They also share hope to find a cure for neuromuscular disease.
During this year?s 68th Annual Daytona Beach Bike Week, thousands of female riders and Harley-Davidson Motor Company are banding together to help the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) make their hope of finding a cure for neuromuscular disease a reality. The Motor Company has planned two special initiatives for female riders to help raise funds for the MDA:
?Wall For Hope: Harley-Davidson will feature a ?signature wall? in the Women?s Interactive Experience area at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center from Saturday, February 28 through Saturday, March 7, 2009. Riders and non-riders alike can showcase their support for the MDA and their efforts to find a cure for neuromuscular disease by signing the special Wall For Hope. The Motor Company will make a $1.00 donation for every signature on the wall to the MDA.
?2nd Annual Harley-Davidson Women?s Day Ride: The ride will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, and feature hundreds of women riders who will ride triumphantly through the streets of Daytona celebrating their freedom and passion for riding and the MDA. All of the riders participating in the ride were encouraged to secure pledges and donations from their friends and families to support MDA Summer Camp programs across the country. The top three fundraisers will receive a Harley-Davidson jacket and anyone who raises more than $600 will receive an exclusive MDA charm. Last year?s ride raised almost $67,000 for MDA Summer Camps.

IT’S A WILD WRAP–I’m trying to pull myself back on track and it’s working, sorta. Cash, one of our black labs looks up at me with a hollow stare, like, “What the fuck is he saying now?” We’re working with Andy at Big Bear Choppers on their 2009 ride to the mountain. We?re scrambling on our 10th anniversary Smoke Out run and maybe a ride to Burt Munroe’s race in New Zealand, but I’m getting way ahead of myself.
I need to bring you another report on the 5-Ball Factory Racer and the Mudflab girl bike. We need an update on Greg Friend’s big twin Sportster, and the Bonne Belle is still alive at Paughco and Departure Bike Works. We will bring you a new 45 Flathead with a 4-speed transmission Paughco frame build in the next couple of weeks. This frame breathes new life into any old 45 flathead lying around. It’s incredible and Paughco is making a stretched job for our Bonne Belle effort for Bonneville 2010.
Here’s the point cover for the mudflap girl bike, and I now have a Klockworks fender so we can begin designing the rear end. Plus, I’m going to make one final run at my next fiction book, during March and Chris Kallas is thinking about the cover art. This will be the first and toughest fiction effort I’ve stumbled through, but it will be damn worth it. Then I can complete the movie treatment. So while a chunk of the biker nation parties in Daytona, we will focus on delivering you fine content in the form of techs, features and girls. And I’ll wrap up another book. But that ain’t all by a long shot; this year is packed, so let’s ride.
