Harley-Davidson X 500 model specs for USA

By General Posts No Comments

Qianjiang-Produced Harley-Davidson X 500 is expected to be available in USA from 2024.

US-specific owners manual has been published by Harley-Daivdson. The X 500 was announced for the Chinese market in April, and later for Australia and New Zealand, but the newly published owner’s manual assures a U.S. launch.

There are distinct changes compared to the 2023 owner’s manual, adding information specific to the American market such as a U.S. vehicle identification number (VIN). The manual’s VIN breakdown specifically details the codes for models manufactured by Qianjiang in China for export to the United States.

Warranty information and a clause marked as “Other Limitations” included six items in 2023 manual but for year 2024 manual there is an addition of a seventh item. This addition states United States customers are not allowed particular modifications that are not approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or the California Air Resources Board. A definition of tampering with noise control or exhaust emissions control systems is mentioned. These were absent for the manual meant for Chinese market.

X 500 is the second model to be produced under the partnership between Harley-Davidson and Qianjiang, following the X 350. The smaller engine model was not intended for US market as per Q1 2023 report, though X350RA variant to be used by Harley-Davidson’s Riding Academy.

It is expected the people and dealerships (and media) will react fast & furiously to a Made-in-China Harley-Davidson being sold in USA.

We can expect the same liquid-cooled 500cc Parallel-Twin engine, claiming 47 hp at 8,500 rpm and 33 lb-ft. at 5,000 rpm. The claimed wet weight remains 456 pounds, and the fuel economy is unchanged, still claiming 49 mpg. Valve inspections are scheduled for every 15,500 miles.

Harley-Davidson Reveals new Apex Factory Custom Paint

By General Posts

H-D Legacy of Competition Inspires Custom Paint for Nine Touring Models

MILWAUKEE – Harley-Davidson today revealed the new Apex factory custom paint option for select Harley-Davidson® Grand American Touring models.

The dynamic new paint scheme debuts at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Apex custom paint is inspired by the long and successful competition history of Harley-Davidson, the world’s most iconic motorcycle brand. A racing legacy established more than a century ago in hill climbs, enduros, and fairground flat tracks continues today as the Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle® factory team defends its 2021 MotoAmerica King of the Baggers championship.

“Apex factory custom paint gives riders the opportunity to express the thrill of speed and competition on the bodywork of their bagger,” said Brad Richards, VP of Design and Creative Director – Motorcycles. “This paint scheme communicates velocity and forward momentum with lines and colors inspired by Harley-Davidson competition motorcycles.”

The Apex paint scheme features a graphic outline on the fuel tank which mimics the shape of the tank on the legendary Harley-Davidson® XR750 flat track racing motorcycle. On models with a fairing the graphic sweeps back to align with the tank graphic and leads with an angle that suggests speed. The lines on the front fender connect visually to those on the side covers and saddlebags, creating a flowing effect. When viewed in profile, the motorcycle appears to be in motion.

The color scheme starts with a base of Vivid Black paint. A graphic element adds Gauntlet Gray panels surrounded by an accent stripe of Jet Fire Orange – the original color applied to the XR750 competition models. Each panel is designed with inner drop shadows and a subtle Bar & Shield pattern that fades in and out throughout the scheme. This fade effect was inspired by the checkered fade seen on Harley-Davidson Factory Team race bikes. Clear coat paint is applied as a final layer. The Apex custom paint is applied in-house at Harley-Davidson York Vehicle Assembly and Harley-Davidson Tomahawk Operations.

The Apex custom paint will be offered globally for the remainder of the 2022 model ordering period as a factory-installed option for nine Harley-Davidson Grand American Touring models:

  • Road King® Special model
  • Street Glide® Special model (Chrome and Black trim versions)
  • Ultra Limited model (Chrome and Black trim versions)
  • Road Glide® Limited model (Chrome and Black trim versions)
  • Road Glide® Special model (Chrome and Black trim versions)

Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor Parts & Accessories will offer Tour-Pak® luggage carriers and custom front fenders painted to match the Apex paint scheme. This will allow riders to further customize a motorcycle ordered with Apex factory custom paint.

See a local authorized Harley-Davidson® dealer (click here) for details on ordering a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle and accessories with Apex factory custom paint.

Vance & Hines Expands New PCX Lineup

Vance & Hines Expands New PCX Lineup with Return of the Pro Pipe and Debut of Bagger Race Replica System

Santa Fe Springs CA – Vance & Hines, which earlier this week announced its innovative new PCX (Power Chamber Exhaust) technology, is now adding two new 2-into-1 exhaust systems to their product line. The introduction includes the return of the ultra-popular Pro Pipe 2-into-1 exhaust system and a system inspired by the one used on the company’s King of the Baggers racers, a series that has inspired a new level of custom and performance in Harley-Davidson touring bikes. PCX technology ensures that these Vance & Hines systems meet all EPA emissions criteria.

Pro Pipe is a classic design that has twenty years of evolution and improvement built into its return to market. It has all the ingredients for making power: stepped headers, an oversized collector and long megaphone muffler. The new generation Pro Pipe now features the innovative PCX™ technology, which integrates a chambered high-flow catalyst in the megaphone for a bigger boost in torque and a more robust rumble of a big V-Twin motor. The placement of the catalyst deeper into the muffler moves heat away from the rider and improves rider comfort.

The Pro Pipe system fits Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Touring (2017-2022) and Softail (2018-2022) models, as well as late model Twin Cam Touring models (2010-2016).

The Vance & Hines Hi-Output RR exhaust system comes directly out of the development work done for the riders in the King of the Baggers class of the MotoAmerica Road Racing Championships. Constructed of high grade, 304 stainless steel, the hand TIG welded headers of the Hi-Output RR step from 1.75″ to 1.875″ to 2.0″ and feed into the same oversized collector used on the race exhaust system. The collector is even rotated to add extra ground clearance to enable steeper lean angles through the turns. Finishing off the system is the Vance & Hines mid-length 4″ Hi-Output megaphone muffler featuring the same laser-cut riveted badge as the race system. The consumer version of the system includes PCX technology using a chambered, high flow catalyst which increases torque, especially at mid-range RPMs.

The Hi-Output RR system fits Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Touring models (2017-2022). An optional accessory heat shield kit will also be available.

“The Pro Pipe is a rider favorite and we’re so glad to bring it back with PCX technology,” said Vance & Hines President and CEO Mike Kennedy. “With our company’s roots in racing and our excitement about this year’s King of the Baggers program, the race-replica high-output system was a no brainer. I can’t wait to see a bagger ride by with the same pipes that James Rispoli has on his Vance & Hines race bike.”

Both systems are available this week at Vance & Hines’ two locations at the Sturgis Rally. Vance & Hines staff at both Black Hills Harley-Davidson and at J&P Cycles in Sturgis are showing all the company’s top products to attendees at the rally.

Pirelli Unveils The New DIABLO ROSSO IV CORSA

By General Posts

The Sportiest Tire in the Diablo Rosso Family, Available in the Celebratory Edition of Pirelli’s 150-Year Anniversary

• Ideal for riders who want performance upgrades for their motorcycles
• Higher grip, enhanced “fast” handling and performance consistency
• Bi-compound scheme both on front and rear tire
• Slicker tread pattern compared to DIABLO ROSSO IV
• Racing-derived technologies applied to profiles and structures

ROME, Ga. (February 10, 2021) – Pirelli presents the new DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa, the high-performance hypersport tire that raises the bar of sport riding even higher within the DIABLO ROSSO family. The new DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa represents a fiercer version of the DIABLO ROSSO IV super sport tire, created to satisfy the most demanding motorcyclists seeking a tire capable of high performance, to fully utilize the potential of their bikes.

DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa was born in the year in which Pirelli celebrates its 150th anniversary and becomes an integral part of the celebrations. During 2022 a limited edition DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa pays homage to this milestone and features the Pirelli’s 150th anniversary logo on its sidewall.

Formed in Milan on January 28, 1872, the company began its business with diversified rubber products, making the first tire for bicycles in 1890. Always passionate about competition, Pirelli participated in the first motorcycle races in 1897 and today continues with the role of sole supplier to the Superbike World Championship, a collaboration that started in 2004, as well as being the most successful brand in MXGP. Today Pirelli is the only tire company focused exclusively on the consumer world, with products and services for cars, motorcycles and bicycles.

Who is DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa designed for?
DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa is the ideal choice for:
• Motorcyclists who love a dynamic riding style on winding roads and mountain passes, who want a tire to match the sporty performance of their motorcycle.
• Motorcyclists who are passionate about tuning, who look for performance upgrades and take care of the bike set-up and aesthetics. These riders seek the optimal set-up of their motorcycle according to the type of use, also through the upgrade to high-performance equipment. They also recognize the lightning-shaped tread design, here interrupted, as the iconic symbol representing DIABLO ROSSO sporty performance.

The benefits of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa:
The main benefits of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa are:

Higher grip in dry conditions thanks to a slicker tread design that guarantees a larger footprint area alongside the use of innovative compounds that increase mechanical grip levels.

Enhanced high-performance handling and precise feedback. The innovative technologies applied to the carcass make DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa able to adhere to the micro-roughness of the asphalt, ensuring precise feedback and a feeling of control.

Performance consistency over multiple riding sessions, made possible by the characteristics of the tread pattern, where the intended repetition of the grooves offers high resistance to stress, and, by the new arrangement of the compounds, ensures optimal thermal balance.

THE TIRE IN DETAILS
Tread Pattern
The tread design of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa features a calculated repetition of the central grooves and a slicker shoulder area, for a void/fill ratio 25%[1] lower than DIABLO ROSSO IV.

In the central area, the group of longitudinal grooves assures directional stability and water evacuation. Their orientation follows the wear waves and enables an even wear, while their position increase the structural stability of the tire to give performance consistency over multiple riding sessions.

In the intermediate area, linear grooves of different lengths are positioned using a scheme that balances compound flexibility and water evacuation. DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa features a large slick area on the shoulders, able to offer high levels of grip, precision and stability at maximum lean angles.

Compounds
The front tire is divided into three areas using two different compounds:

The central band has a Full Silica compound that occupies around 45% of the section width and is present in the contact area used up to 25 degrees of lean angle.

The side areas have a softer compound, also Full Silica, thanks to the use of innovative resins that offer excellent grip and improve the front tire feedback.

The rear tire also has a bi-compound scheme for excellent road performance and works in harmony with the front.

The central Full Silica compound allows for a quick warm-up and excellent chemical grip on different surface conditions.

The shoulder compound is 100% Carbon Black and derives directly from the compounds of DIABLO Supercorsa SC used in racing competitions. This compound is able to offer support at full lean and traction during acceleration managing the torque generated by the latest generation superbikes.

Profiles
Pirelli exploits all the know-how acquired in the fastest production-derived motorcycle championship. The profiles of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa are therefore race-derived and are characterized by a multi radius design that improves the tire’s handling.

The central area has a sharper profile to facilitate immediate lean and rapid change of direction. In the lateral areas, on the other hand, the profile curvature is less accentuated in order to increase the contact area and ensure maximum traction when cornering. Front and rear tires follow a similar profile design, thus ensuring a perfectly balanced and neutral behavior of the set.

Structure
With DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa Pirelli uses a racing-derived structure with zero-degree steel belt, which manages to adapt perfectly to different levels of stress without compromising comfort and work optimally with the most advanced electronic control systems.

The stiff cord technology features structural cords that are more rigid and at the same time distributed with less density (-20%) compared to a standard sport tire[2]. This scheme leaves more room for the rubber compound, which improves riding feeling and precision thanks to its damping properties, thus transmitting to the rider, a safety feeling and control of the motorcycle.

The range
The DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa range includes the following sizes.

Front
• 110/70 ZR 17 M/C 54W TL                                        07/2022
• 120/70 ZR 17 M/C (58W) TL                                      01/2022
