by Otilia Drăgan from https://www.autoevolution.com DGR’s Lucky Winner to Take Home the Special Edition DGR x Triumph Thruxton RS Triumph marked another year of its long-time support for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR), making this year’s event even more memorable thanks to the special edition DGR x Triumph Thruxton RS that will be awarded to the lucky winner. DGR is a one-of-a-kind event in many ways, but mostly because it blends 2 unique features. On one hand, it gives motorcycle lovers the chance to dress up and ride in amazing classic and retro-styled outfits, and on the other hand, it’s a charitable event that raises awareness and funds for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health. This year, the DGR celebrated 10 years since it’s been inspiring like-minded people from all-over the world to take their bike out for a noble and stylish ride. The main event took place on May 23rd and the fundraiser was closed on June 6. Over $4 million were raised, plus an $113,000 contribution from Triumph Team that added almost 300 riders to the event. An impressive number of 65,000 motorcycle riders participated at this year’s DGR, from more than 900 cities throughout the world. Whether it was because people were eager to be outside again, or because 3 separate ride formats replaced last year’s single format, what’s certain is that men and women all around the globe really came through for the event’s special anniversary. And so did Triumph, who announced a month ago that it would be presenting a one-off Thruxton RS during the event. This special edition bike is now displayed at the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience and the lucky winner of the ride’s famous Gentlefolk competition will get to take it home. Not many details were revealed about this celebratory model,

Patriots Motorcycle Ride throughout USA

by Stuart Price from https://www.fourstateshomepage.com JOPLIN, MO – Today was an ideal day to spend on a motorcycle, and that’s what a large group of riders did. A group, that made its only official stop in the state of Missouri, in Joplin. Hideout Harley-Davidson in Joplin was the one and only stop in the Show-Me State for the Nation of Patriots motorcycle ride. An event that takes a single American flag on tour throughout the U.S. which starts on Memorial Day and ends on Labor Day. Roger Beckley, who spent nearly 30 years in the U.S. Army had the honor of bearing the flag through his native state of Kansas. “I retired in 2009. I’ve been to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait, in today’s world, I don’t know how much respect is still out there for this flag and so when we can put it on a bike and ride it down the road and people see it coming, it makes them think what it is and what’s it stand for,” Says Beckley. Beckley took an oath to carry the flag to honor the nation’s veterans, the enlisted, and their families. On Saturday many of these same riders will be joined by others from Arkansas for its next destination, which will be fort smith, before eventually making its way back to Nevada. This is the 12th year for the event and each year it starts and ends in the same state, this year it ends in Las Vegas. But veterans aren’t the only riders who take part in the event, so do people like Ryan Mitchell, the regional commander for the Nation of Patriots, who rides with the procession through three of the four states: Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas. He says it’s his chance to serve those that did serve their

Annual Steel Horse Rally at Arkansas

When 20,000 motorcyclists converged on Fort Smith in Arkansas for the annual Steel Horse Rally, Meridian Rapid Defense Group was there to ensure a safe and memorable event. Large parts of the downtown needed to be closed off to cars and trucks but still left open for the bikers to enter and that’s where Meridian’s Archer 1200 barriers were the perfect fit. https://www.thesteelhorserally.com/ The Steel Horse Rally is a motorcycle gathering held on Fort Smith’s Garrison Avenue to benefit local charities. This year again, more than $100,000 was raised and an estimated $4.2 million of revenue flowed into city business over the two day rally in May. Meridian’s CEO Peter Whitford said, “In this situation with a huge number of motorcycles and crowds on the streets, safety was of the utmost importance. By correct placement of our barriers, we were able ensure that cars and trucks were kept out of the mix.” Meridian’s fully certified deployment team moved in with Archer barriers and quickly secured the street. The barriers, which carry the full certification of The SAFETY Act and each are made of 700 lbs of U.S. steel, were set far enough apart that bikes could easily pass through while larger vehicles were blocked from entering the rally area. The Archer barrier can be moved by one person and can stop a vehicle hitting it head-on at speed. Capt. Daniel Grubbs from the Fort Smith Police Department explained that security was a big factor, “We set out to ensure the safety of the motorcycle riders and the general public during this event.” Before the event Meridian worked with the city and organizers to prepare a fully certified vehicle safety mitigation plan. “The rally was all about people enjoying themselves safely,” said Mr. Whitford. “And, importantly, raising money for local charities.

This year it began with a memorial motorcycle ride in honor of the first female corrections officer killed in the line of duty. More than two dozen officers in Southwest Florida have been killed in the line of duty in recent years. Darla Latham is one of the officers. Every year the Florida Defenders Motorcycle Club makes sure to honor her. Vinny Gorgogolione is the President of the Charlotte County chapter of the Defenders. “Today’s our 15th annual fundraiser in the name of the Darla Latham who was killed in the line of duty during a prison break in 2003,” said Gorgogolione. Hundreds of bikers from different chapters all around the country gathered for Latham and other fallen officers. “I think it’s important to focus our efforts on officer safety and those that do get injured or killed on the line of duty that there’s somebody there to try to help them and their families out,” Gorgogolione said. Toney Mineo recently retired as officers and they rode from the east coast to who their support for this forever brotherhood. “It’s heart-wrenching for first of all that we know what they go through,” Mineo said. “Our job as a former law-enforcement is to make sure they’re OK and if they need anything to step up to the plate.” The money raised is to support our local men and women in blue. Harley-Davidson to hold virtual annual meeting, acting CEO says More Roads plan is working

by Margaret Naczek from https://www.bizjournals.com Amid the instability of the COVID-19 pandemic, Harley-Davidson Inc.’s acting president and CEO Jochen Zeitz reflected back on the advancements made in the More Roads to Harley-Davidson strategy in 2019. 2020 already was a pivotal year in the company’s strategic plan to grow more riders and expand dealership reach, but the year became a lot more crucial as the Harley-Davidson (NYSE: HOG) looks to also overcome the difficulties during a pandemic. With concerns over public health and travel restrictions, Harley-Davidson organized its 2020 annual shareholders meeting to be conducted virtually via a live audio webcast on May 21, 2020. The annual meeting will elect nine directors to the board, approve the compensation of the company’s executive officers, approve amendments to the company’s restated articles of incorporation, approve the company’s 2020 incentive stock plan and ratify the selection of Ernst & Young LLP as Harley-Davidson’s independent registered public accounting firm. “As we embark on our next chapter and seek new leadership, we are steadfast in our belief that we have both much to be proud of and much to look forward to,” Zeitz said in his letter to shareholders. On Feb. 28, Harley-Davidson announced former CEO Matt Levatich had stepped down and Zeitz would assume the role of acting president and CEO. The company is currently engaged in a search for new CEO. In his letter to shareholders, Zeitz shared some of the company’s accomplishments in 2019. While U.S. motorcycle sales continue to decline over consecutive quarters, Zeitz noted that in 2019 the rate of decline significantly tempered. “After four years of accelerating declines, such improvement was supported by our More Roads actions, notably in how we’re Amplifying our Brand and delivering on our New Products catalysts for growth,” Zeitz said in the letter.
