The Surgeon’s Note.

A nurse was on duty in the emergency room when a young woman with purple hair styled into a punk rocker mohawk, sporting a variety of tattoos and wearing strange clothing, entered. It was quickly determined that the patient had acute appendicitis, so she was scheduled for immediate surgery.

When she was completely disrobed on the operating table, the staff noticed that her pubic hair had been dyed green, and above it there was a tattoo that read, “Keep off the grass.” Once the surgery was completed, the surgeon wrote a short note on the patient’s dressing, which said “Sorry, had to mow the lawn.”?

MAILMAN WINS SEATTLE INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY– OK, it was a small victory in a field of only four bikes, but he took the prize money, all $21, and a plaque to boot, beating out his good buddy Doc Ford (ex-modified racer) for the win.?

He was very pleased with the times his bike was turning, mostly 10.8s and 10.9s. When asked how he felt about the upcoming Vegas drags, he responded, “I’m ready!”

REPORT FROM BIKERNET SQUADRON MEMBER–I spent almost 3 years in Germany back in the 70=92s and got to do some traveling. One of the guys in our company actually had relatives in Amsterdam! They do like to party there. Even got to return for a couple of weeks for Reforger (war games) right before I got out. By then I was stationed at Fort Hood. Still was able to visit a lot of folks I had known.

My father had been stationed at the same post I was in Germany only 20 years earlier and two buildings up from mine.

It was designed to bring the brothers together to ward off problems with the Man and enhance communication between clubs to prevent harmful disputes. It’s been working like a champ. Not many companies in this industry put their money where their mouth is like AIM. I’ve known Richard for 20 years. He’s done a helluva job for bikers.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON RUNNING STRONG–Following is the majority of their third quarter financial report. I just recently purchased some H-D stock. Bikernet is growing and we’re damn proud of what we’re doing, but we’re not rolling in the profits. But, ever since the WTC attack I’ve been making every effort to buy some stock to show support for American business. What better company to buy?

Harley-Davidson today announced record sales and earnings for its third quarter ended Sept. 23. The company’s third quarter sales were $850.8 million, an increase of 19.1 percent over the third quarter last year. Diluted earnings per share were 36 cents, a 34.9 percent increase compared with last year.

“For the first few days following the tragedies of Sept. 11, many of our U.S. Harley-Davidson dealers reported a slowdown in retail activities,” said Jeffrey L. Bleustein, chairman and chief executive officer of Harley-Davidson, Inc. “This was particularly noticeable in areas around New York City and Washington, D.C., As time progressed, however, it appears as if aggregate retail activity has returned to expected levels for this time of year.”

“We remain confident in the continued long-term growth of Harley-Davidson,” said Bleustein. “In fact, we are increasing our 2001 production target for Harley-Davidson? motorcycles from 231,000 to 232,500. At the same time, we continue to carefully watch our internal and external indicators as well as world events so that we can best manage our business through these challenging times.” As previously reported, the company has a 2002 goal of 256,000 Harley-Davidson units which represents a 10.1 percent increase over the new 2001 goal.

Motorcycles and Related Products Segment – Third Quarter Results Third quarter sales of Harley-Davidson motorcycles were $638.2 million, an increase of 20.8 percent over the third quarter last year. Shipments totaled 56,611 units, up 8,534 units or 17.8 percent over the same period.

Sales of Parts and Accessories (P&A), which consist of Genuine Motor Parts and Genuine Motor Accessories, totaled $150.2 million, a 12.6 percent increase from the year-ago quarter. Third quarter sales of General Merchandise, which consist of MotorClothes apparel and collectibles, totaled $44.1 million, a 7 percent increase over the same period last year. On a longer-term basis, the company expects the growth rate for P&A revenues to be slightly higher than Harley-Davidson’s motorcycle unit growth rate. The General Merchandise growth rate is expected to be lower than the motorcycle unit growth rate over the long term.

Third quarter gross margin was 35.5 percent of revenue, up from 33.6 percent of revenue for the same period last year. Gross margin improved primarily due to favorable product mix, worldwide price increases and a higher percentage of U.S. shipments.

Third quarter operating margin for the Motorcycles and Related Products Segment was 18.3 percent of revenue, an improvement on last year’s third quarter margin of 16.3 percent. The increase in gross margin drove the corresponding increase in operating margin.

KING TAKES DEL MAR IN FORMULA USA NATIONAL DIRT TRACK FINALE Rich King not only claimed his first-evervictory at the Del Mar Mile in the 750cc Super Singles and Twins main eventSunday, but did so in convincing fashion, running away from the field bynearly a straightaway in the Formula USA National Dirt Track Series seasonfinale. A week earlier, King closed out the AMA’s 2001 U.S. Flat TrackChampionship Series with a victory at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds inIllinois.

“I felt really comfortable on the track and had some great lines, which keptgetting better and better,” said King. “The set up on the bike was spot onfor the main event.”

From the start, King was unstoppable; breaking away to a huge lead over themain pack. However, the race was halted with a red flag at the midway pointso the field could address visibility problems that were encountered due tothe Del Mar racing surface.

“Whenever you get a red flag and you’re in the lead, you worry a littleabout losing momentum, but I felt good at the restart,” he said.

QUANTUM BANKRUPTCY UPDATE– I have received mail from Attorney Peter Hill pertaining to the bankruptcy.

It is a Order On Motion To Sell The Corporate Shell Of The Debtor Free And Clear of Liens and signed by Judge Arthur Briskman on September 26th 2001

Basically what it states is that the Court granted the Trustees Motion to sell the Corporate Shell of American Quantum Cycles free and clear of all liens, interests, and encumbrances. The Court also cancels all previously issued and outstanding shares of common and preferred stock.

It states that it cancels the claims of any third parties known or unknown, in and to any copyright, trademark, or service mark, relative to the name American Quantum Cycles Inc. Any and all such claims, liens or interests shall attach to the proceeds of this sale.

Bids were received in open court and the successful bidder being Axis Financial Services, LLC, and a South Carolina limited liability company for Sixty Six Thousand Dollars ($66,000.00)

The successful bidder receives 100 shares of common stock in American Quantum Cycles Inc. which shall be considered fully paid and non-assessable, the original corporate books of the debtor and copies of all the financial and other records.

The last time I was in Court on this matter Judge Briskman told the Trustee and his Attorney again that the Employees of American Quantum Cycle Inc. were the first priority in receiving monies received from action in this case. Of course that is after Court costs fro the Trustee and his Attorney so do not expect any money soon.

There are still other avenues that the Trustee and his Attorney should follow to see that the Employees eventually receive their past wages up to the point allowed by law.

I will continue to monitor this to the best of my ability and keep you informed.

HAMSTER REPORT–From a long distance riding Hamster and the owner of the Philtown Motel in Sturgis:I’m sure glad all turned out well after your deer hunting accident.Riding the hills out here is always a bit of a scare. It’s worst justafter sunset when they seem to be everywhere. Going to Gillette lastspring there were two big Wyoming State dump trucks and several frontend loaders picking up deer from the ditches. They must have hadseveral hundred loaded into the oversized dump trucks.

I’ve hit them with cars and have been hit by them in my car. A friendof mine had one go through the window of his pickup and it didn’t die onimpact, but continued to fight inside the cab as they tried to stop andget out. One of the occupants ended up with forty stitches.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS– A new employee is hired at the Tickle Me Elmo factory. The personnel manager explains her duties, and tells her to report to work promptly at 8:00 AM.

The next day at 8:45AM, there’s a knock at the personnel manager’s door. The assembly line foreman comes in and starts ranting about this new employee. He says she’s incredibly slow, and the whole line is backing up.

The foreman takes the personnel manager down to the factory floor to show him the problem. Sure enough, Elmos are backed up all over the place. At the end of the line is the new employee. She has a roll of the material used for the Elmos and a big bag of marbles. They both watch as she cuts a little piece of fabric, wraps it around two marbles, and starts sewing the little package between Elmo’s legs.

The personnel manager starts laughing hysterically. After several minutes, he pulls himself together, walks over to the woman, and says, “I’m sorry, I guess you misunderstood me yesterday. Your job is to give Elmo two test tickles.”

AN ENSIGN’S LETTER FROM AT SEA–This is an e-mail from an Ensign stationed aboard the USS Winston Churchill…

Dear Dad,

Well, we are still out at sea, with little direction as to what our nextpriority is. The remainder of our port visits, which were to be centeredaround max liberty and goodwill to the United Kingdom, have all but beencancelled. We have spent every day since the attacks going back and forthwithin imaginary boxes drawn in the ocean, standing high-security watches,and trying to make the best of our time. Being isolated as we are, I don’t think we appreciate the full scope of whatis happening back home, but we are definitely feeling the effects.

About two hours ago the junior officers were called to the bridge to conductShiphandling drills. We were about to do a man overboard when we got a callfrom the LUTJENS(D185), a German warship that was moored ahead of us on thepier in Plymouth, England. While in port, the WINSTON S CHURCHILL and theLUTJENS got together for a sports day/cookout on our fantail, and we madesome pretty good friends.

Now at sea they called over on bridge-to-bridge,requesting to pass us closeup on our port side, to say goodbye. We prepared to render them honors onthe bridgewing, and the Captain told the crew to come topside to wish themfarewell. As they were making their approach, our Conning Officer announcedthrough her binoculars that they were flying an American flag. As they cameeven closer, we saw that it was flying at half-mast.

The bridgewing was crowded with people as the Boatswain’s Mate blew twowhistles- Attention to Port- the ship came up alongside and we saw that theentire crew of the German ship were manning the rails, in their dress blues.They had made up a sign that was displayed on the side that read “We StandBy You”.

Needless to say there was not a dry eye on the bridge as they stayedalongside us for a few minutes and we cut our salutes. It was probably themost powerful thing I have seen in my entire life and more than a few of usfought to retain our composure. It was a beautiful day outside today.We are no longer at liberty to divulge over unsecure e-mail our location,but we could not have asked for a finer day at sea.

It’s amazing to think that only a half-centuryago things were quite different, and to see the unity that is beingdemonstrated throughout Europe and the world makes us all feel proud to beout here doing our job.

I’ll write you when I know more about when I’ll be home, but for now, thisis probably the best news that I could send you.

THE BLONDE BUZZ–Returning home from work, a blonde was shocked to find her house ransacked and burglarized. She telephoned the police at once and reported the crime.

The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the channels, and a K-9 unit patrolling nearby was the first to respond. As the K-9 officer approached the house with his dog on a leash, the blonde ran out on the porch, shuddered at the sight of the cop and his dog, then sat down on the steps.

Putting her face in her hands, she moaned, “I come home to find all my possessions stolen. I call the police for help, and what do they do? They send me a BLIND policeman!”

He laid the bike down just before impact and took out the legs of abig elk. They all scattered after his bike stopped sliding, even the onehe hit.

He was tore up and bleeding but managed to get up and after a fewminutes was on the road again. When he got to the meeting another brothersaid, “What’s that stickin out of your forehead?” He reached up and feltwhat was part of an antler stuck in the scalp of his head. GUN LAW NOTION– This notion came to mind the other day. I don’t know whether it’s worth a damn, but what the hell. We’re allowed fire extinguishers in case our house catches on fire. We have tools to fix the plumbing, so why are they taking away our tools to prevent attacks on our family or friends.

Obviously, we haven’t the money to hire a security guard to live in our homes. What gives?

BIKERNET CARIBBEAN REPORT–We could not make it last week, we were in Frisco and then Santa Clara forthe Custom Chrome dealers show.Speaking of which, and I’m pretty sure Bandit will add on, we had a greattime, meeting new people and hanging out with old friends, even seeing somethat we have only known via computer.We spent a couple days in Frisco playing tourist, what a cool city, plus wehad friends showing us around and making sure we had the best time ever ! The cool thing about this industry, brotherhood, or lifestyle, whatever youwant to call it is the solid bond and friendships that come with it. Ourfriends Heather and Rudy from California Choppers went out of their way totake us around town and making sure we had a place to stay, good places toeat, and knew which way to go. We went to the shop for a after hours tourand later to hang out with the other guys there. Then off to Santa Claraand the show, everyone was there, but in a less crowded, relaxed,situation.We even got to see Bandit and Layla and finally got rid of the famous worldtraveling 5 balls(I’ll leave that story to Bandit). One thing about themeeting, those guys from Custom Chrome throw a hell of a party. We made itback to Puerto Rico, safely, after hours of waiting in line and severalsecurity checks, so here are the news.

Custom Chrome Show news:Jesse James brought a couple of new exhaust designs ala Hell bent, and newsof the upcoming show, sometime in Jan is the pending date.Paul Yaffee has a new bike kit with one cool chopper, plus had the superexpensive Arizona Diamond Backs bike on display, to all you Sportsterowners, a very cool set of pipes are on the way.

BMC displayed their new Softail chopper, and the prototype for a rigid 250tire bike, all at prices lower than a new “factory”bike.Those are some highlights, since I’m sure Bandit will tell us about theshow.

Sure, it doesn’t have a damn thing to do with Vietnam or bikers, but it was a real advertising mistake.

VIET NAM SPECIAL ON PBS– At 9:00 pm (PDT) Friday, October 5th on PBS (Ch.28 where I’m at in California) there will be the debut broadcast of a new TV documentary series. Part of this broadcast will be about the battle my company was in on 11 April, 1966 in Viet Nam.

The name of the show is “Life 360: Six Degrees of Separation.” featuring the Pitsenbarger Medal of Honor story and Charlie Company’s (C 2/16 Rangers, 1st Inf. Div.) fight for survival.

I don’t know anything about the broadcast, but I do know about that fight. Over 80% casualties. Out of 134 men, all but 28 of us were either killed or wounded. Both William Pitsenbarger, an Air Force Pararescue Jumper, and SSgt. Jimmy Robinson (one of our men) earned the Medal of Honor, both posthumously, and our unit was awarded the Valorous Unit Award.

American Motorcyclists Alerted: Major MRO Offensive Aimed at Emissions Regulations Rolls Out in November 2001.Topeka, Kansas The Motorcycle Riders Foundation issued this emergency alert to State Motorcyclists? Rights Organizations (SMROs):?

?Prepare now for a major grassroots offensive aimed squarely at the Environmental Protection Agency?s proposed rulemaking on street motorcycles.?

The alert was announced at the September 29 Meeting of the Minds members? banquet, MRF?s premier national leadership summit, a riders gathering that brings together the leaders of the American motorcyclists? rights movement and key international allies.

The new rule on street bikes, which MRF expects the EPA to issue in November 2001, will be followed by a 60- or 90-day period calling for public comment.

?That public comment period will be met by sustained, intense and dramatic grassroots action by the American motorcyclists? rights movement,? predicted Tom Wyld, MRF?s Vice President for Government Relations.

In concert with the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and the Federation of European Motorcycle Associations (FEMA), the Motorcycle Riders Foundation also announced a major global initiative to oppose a draft of the universal motorcycle emissions test procedure. That procedure, called the ?World Motorcycle Test Cycle? or WMTC, is gaining momentum and acceptance in Geneva as the single way all governments worldwide will test all motorcycles for emissions compliance.

Speaking on behalf of the International Steering Committee in its consolidated statement, MRF announced an offensive aimed at the defeat the proposed WMTC.

At the September 29 Meeting of the Minds banquet, MRF announced the following initiatives aimed at the domestic environmental regulations threat:

1.MRF will thoroughly examine the rule.

2.MRF will provide to our members and member-SMROs and chapters vital information on rule details, our analysis and likely impacts. Our goal is to generate a superhighway of public comment. ?We want every motorcyclist to comment,? Wyld said. ?That?s 12 million Americans who ride more than 6 million motorcycles.?

3.MRF urged all SMROs to prepare their members and organizations now for massive grassroots activity from November 2001 through January 2002. This INCLUDES VISITS to Washington during that critical period.

4.MRF is now taking the following actions:a.We are launching a threat awareness campaign aimed squarely at the motorcycle press – both popular magazines and periodicals that service the industry.

b.We are continuing our work with the Small Business Administration and with the White House Office of Management and Budget.

5.MRF will take the following actions: a.Through networking, seek the involvement and support of small-volume makers, custom shops and the aftermarket.

b.Develop and circulate, in concert with SMROs, ?delegation letters? to be signed by as many members of state Congressional delegations as MRF and SMROs can possibly generate.

c.Depending on the severity of the rule, seek the intervention of the Office of Management and Budget within the White House to quash the rule in the course of its required review process.

6.Finally, if and when necessary, seek review and rejection of the rule by the Congress of the United States, either in the normal course of rule review or, if necessary, by the advancement of stand-alone legislation legislation the Motorcycle Riders Foundation has tentatively dubbed ?The Motorcycle Protection Act of 2002.?

BRITAIN: ?From news I’m reading by Mark Sage in the PA News, I guess Britain is having problems with their speeding drivers too. ?Speed traps there reveal that 66% of cars and 54% of trucks are exceeding the limits on rural roads. ?35% of motorcycles are running 5 miles an hour faster than limits too. ?Over 55% of all rigs are exceeding the speed limits on their motorways (freeways?) as well. ?Oh, my! ?Are we in trouble again?

ASHEBORO, SC: ?There was another fatality in the USA because of a Police chase involving a MOTORCYCLE RIDER. ?As a result of such a chase, we have lost another brother, run over by a police officer.

This in the Asheboro News & Record, written by Chris Helms. Gerald “Tiny” Abney died as a result of injuries sustained during a “low speed” chase by Police. ?Apparently the Police car ran over Tiny’s bike during the incident.

Not all details are clear at this writing, except that this big chase was just for a minor traffic infraction. ?Our North Carolina AIM Attorney, Bob Donat, is on the job looking at this case. ?We are, after all, vulnerable out there.

Rumor has it, this is a tourist shot taken at the top of the WTC. The camera was found in the rubble afterwards.

SAN JOSE, CA: ?According to the San Jose Mercury News, a Judge gave chase on his MOTORCYCLE, to assist local officers in apprehending a hit and run driver. ?He chased this woman for several miles at speeds up to 60 MPH on surface streets in town. ?Apparently the old gal had five crashes before the Judge got her stopped. ?I wonder if she will go to court or if the good judge took care of things on the spot?

TOKYO, JAPAN: ?Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Suzuki Motor Corp are partnering up on the design of a wide variety of American style bikes. ?They say they will work together to develop these new bikes and ATV’s in order to take advantage of being able to make more profits working together in this world of fierce competition for the biker’s dollar. ?Hope it works. ?Competition breeds ingenuity, by golly.

COTABATO, PHILIPPINES: ?Here we go again. ?An Irish missionary was killed on his motorcycle when he resisted four gunmen who tried to abduct him in the southern Philippines. ?Haven’t we mentioned in the past that it isn’t real smart to ride your bike where there is shooting going on? ?Man, when I see guns I leave the area. ?FAST!

FASCINATING FACT: ?Just saw this on the Internet. ?In the TV series “Happy Days”the character ARTHUR “THE FONZ” FONZARELLI couldn’t wear his LEATHER JACKET unless his bike was part of the scene. ?Seems the studio had problems with the leather linking the show in some way with a criminal element. ?Wow! ?Now that’s reaching pretty hard.

PERTH, AUSTRALIA: ?Orbital engine company, the maker of the great new 4 strokefor motorcycles among many other uses, including cars, is in financial trouble. ?The engine is environmentally friendly and fuel efficient. ?Hope the company gets their problems solved. ?If this engine is as good as they say it is, we need it.

LOUISIANA: ?I read an article from a Louisiana newspaper that hit the nail on the head as far as safety concerns for bikers. ?The guy said in essence that there were a large group of drivers on the roads today that had no regard for anyone on the road, let alone motorcycles.

He says the safety solution for bikers is BETTER TRAINING for all motorists and would-be motorists, and not more equipment laws. ?Finally, someone understands the problem! ?If we could get the self-centered driver to wake-up to the fact that he isn’t the only one on the road that has the right to be there, we would all be much better off. ?

Motorcycle safety is a two-way street. We need alert and cautious drivers, regardless of how they travel from one place to another. ?It’s called respect and just plain courtesy on the road for the other guy.

GUNNY AGAIN: ?In Oregon, we have one more camp-out called “The End of SummerRun” and that’s the end of the overnight rides for this year. ?Our southern Oregon ABATE chapters had a good run last month known as “The Southern Oregon Summer Run,” or the “SOS” run, down near a historic old Stagecoach stop called Wolf Creek.

We were in a Forest Service campground with the vendors pretty well set around the baseball diamond. ?The bandstand was set up too, right in the middle of things. ?Speaking of bands, the music was different than we are used to, but most really enjoyed the change to CAJUN style. ?I sure did, but I’m an old duffer that doesn’t like the constant hard rock that many younger folks do. ?Besides, I was stationed in New Orleans when I was in the Marine Corps several hundred years ago, so it brought back lots of memories.

The weather was great and temperatures stayed in the mid 70’s. ?The camp sites were semi-isolated from each other so people enjoyed a little privacy when they needed it. ?All in all a great run. ?I’m looking forward to next year.

BIKERNET AIRLINES REPORT–The following is from a letter by a professional friend on her returnflight to D.C. this week.

“I just wanted to drop you all a note and let you know that I arrived safeand sound into Dulles Airport tonight [9/15] at about 6. It was aninteresting flight.

The airport in Denver was almost spooky it was so empty and quiet. No one was in line for the security check point when I got there so that wentfairly quickly, just x-ray of my bags and then a chemical test to be surenothing explosive was on them.

Then I waited 2 1/2 hours to board the plane. What happened after we boarded was interesting and thought I would share it with you.

The pilot/captain came on the loudspeaker after the doors were closed. His speech went like this:

First I want to thank you for being brave enough to fly today. The doors are now closed and we have no help from the outside for any problems that might occur inside this plane. As you could tell when you checked in, the government has made some changes to increase security in the airports.

They have not, however, made any rules about what happens after those doors close. Until they do that, we have made our own rules and I want to share them with you. Once those doors close, we only have each other.

The security has taken care of a threat like guns with all of the increasedscanning, etc. Then we have the supposed bomb. If you have a bomb, there is no need to tell me about it, or anyone else on this plane; you are already in control. So, for this flight, there are no bombs that exist on thisplane.

Now, the threats that are left are things like plastics, wood, knives andother weapons that can be made or things like that which can be used as weapons.

Here is our plan and our rules. If someone or several people stand up and say they are hijacking this plane, I want you all to stand up together.Then take whatever you have available to you and throw it at them. Throw it at their faces and heads so they will have to raise their hands to protect themselves.

The very best protection you have against knives are the pillows andblankets. Whoever is close to these people should then try to get a blanket over their head–then they won’t be able to see. Once that is done, get them down and keep them there. Do not let them up. I will then land the plane at the closest place and we WILL take care of them.

After all, there are usually only a few of them and we are 200+ strong!We will not allow them to take over this plane.

I find it interesting that the U.S. Constitution begins with the words “We,the people”–that’s who we are, THE people and we will not be defeated.

With that, the passengers on the plane all began to applaud, people hadtears in their eyes, and we began the trip toward the runway.

The flight attendant then began the safety speech. One of the things shesaid is that we are all so busy and live our lives at such a fast pace.She asked that everyone turn to their neighbors on either side and introduce themselves, tell each other something about your families and children, show pictures, whatever. She said “for today, we consider you family. We will treat you as such and ask that you do the same with us.”

Throughout the flight we learned that for the crew, this was their firstflight since Tuesday’s tragedies. It was a day that everyone leaned on each other and together everyone was stronger than any one person alone. It was quite an experience.

You can imagine the feeling when that plane touched down at Dulles and we heard “welcome to Washington Dulles Airport, where the local time is 5:40.” Again, the cabin was filled with applause.

Hey, I don’t know what the hell is happening from one moment to the next. The world is on fire. Terrorists are on their way out. Although the media is trying to convince us that the economy is dropping, they’re completely wrong. Sure, the airlines fucked up and risked our lives with their poor security. And of course they want the government to bail them out from their own mistakes. You know as well as I do that millions of people will be flying again soon.

On another front, one of my girls went out with another woman last night, and we’re about to completely rearrange the Bikernet Gulch. Next week we’ll have a new feature on the Easyriders Dallas Shovelhead project. We are planning a run to San Jose this weekend to the Custom Chrome dealer show. That’s just scratchin’ the surface. Watch as the Digital Gangster’s bike comes together. We’re hoping to move on our morale officer’s Pro Street bike shortly. The wrecked Buell was returned from Phoenix. It’s in bad shape, but the driveline could become another project for our master illustrator Jon Towle. Ya just never know what will happen next. Broaching a controversial subject that has gained visibility since the Sept.11 terrorist attacks, Oracle Chairman and CEO Larry Ellison is calling forthe United States to create a national identification card system — andoffering to donate the software to make it possible.

Under Ellison’s proposal, millions of Americans would be fingerprinted andthe information would be placed on a database used by airport securityofficials to verify identities of travelers at airplane gates.

“We need a national ID card with our photograph and thumbprint digitized andembedded in the ID card,” Ellison said in an interview with KPIX-TV in San Francisco.

“We need a database behind that, so when you’re walking into an airport andyou say that you are Larry Ellison, you take that card and put it in areader and you put your thumb down and that system confirms that this isLarry Ellison,” he said.’Absolutely free’

Ellison’s company, Oracle, based in Redwood Shores, is the world’s leadingmaker of database software. Ellison, worth $15 billion, is among the world’srichest people.

“We’re quite willing to provide the software for this absolutely free,” hesaid.

Calls for national ID cards traditionally have been met with fierceresistance from civil liberties groups, which say the cards would intrude onthe privacy of Americans and allow the government to track people’smovements.

But Ellison said that in the electronic age, little privacy is left anyway.”Well, this privacy you’re concerned about is largely an illusion,” he said.”All you have to give up is your illusions, not any of your privacy. Rightnow, you can go onto the Internet and get a credit report about yourneighbor and find out where your neighbor works, how much they earn and ifthey had a late mortgage payment and tons of other information.”

Ellison said shoppers have to disclose more information at malls to buy a watch than they do to get onan airplane.Civil libertarians said caution is needed.

“It strikes me as a form of overreaction to the events that we haveexperienced,” said Robert Post, a constitutional law professor at theUniversity of California, Berkeley. “If we allow a terrorist attack todestroy forms of freedom that we have enjoyed, we will have given thevictory to them. This kind of recommendation does just that.”

Post said that while such a system may catch some criminals, it could be hackedor faked or evaded by capable terrorists. Nor is it clear that such a systemwould have foiled the Sept. 11 attacks, he said.But polls last week show many Americans support a national ID card.

THE CRAZY HORSE EAST COAST SUMMARY–I’m just checking in. The leaves are falling here and summer is becoming asweet memory. I didn’t go riding this weekend. I’ve been busy workingon paint jobs, rebuilding my Web site and getting ready for Biketoberfest.

The Softail is almost ready to be fired up. Tanks get bolted on later thisweek.Two notorious guys from NH, Oneeye and Maddogare, are riding down and meeting me in Daytona. They’ve been busy playing very loud games of golf in South Africa and riding across Australia. Now they are “borrowing” a beach house onAtlantic Avenue. My usual Biketoberfest buddies, J-12 and Donnie, are chainedup at home this year. I have attached two pictures of the latest work I have beendoing.

He has been to six continents since January promoting the use of motorcycles for medical assistance and raising money for Doctors Without Borders and Riders for Health. CAMERA/TATTOO TEST– Here’s the best one of the few I took today with the new digital camera of my riding buddy Suzanne’s Angel. She just had some touch-up work done on it to add color and detail.

It was one of the best days for riding I’ve seen in a long time. I hung the new camera around my neck and took movies as I rode. You can’t see enough so a few adjustments will be made, but the sound is great. I need to learn how to edit. The movie files are too big to mail to most people.

Racing at SIR today, Mailman caught his left foot under a broken shifter at 70 mph and wrenched it real hard. It’s bruised and swollen, but not hurt too bad. He loaded his own bike on the trailer.?

It pissed enough of us off to scour the city ofSacramento and we found it! Great poem. Here is her post:

Well folks, it certainly has been a roller coaster ride. I hope none of youever buy tickets for this one. The following account is what happened whenthe keeper was found and the trap sprung. Ride on and ride safe.

There they are huddled together –

He roared and grabbed my jacket.
With a halfway grin, “It’s nice to share,”
I purred before I nailed his package.

He coughed and groaned with surprise
when he caught sight down the street.
Lots of pretty blue and red lights
were ready for us to meet.

“Thank you again for your time,
and consideration in this matter.
Oh, and Coldfyre would like to say,
May you all BURN in the hereafter.”

A thank you of a personal nature
I feel I must extend.
It’s for someone I’d like to call
