We were very skeptical about the myCharge’s claim that it could jump start and engine, so we can give it a try, several times, with a number of vehicles…

We hooked it up to a broken down Triumph motorcycle that was stranded on the way to the Rock Store in Malibu. On a motorcycle, the worst part of the operation is always about wrestling to connect the device to the terminals (what else is new?). But once we were able to achieve proper connection, there was no problem. The bike fired right up and got under way.

On another occasion we tested the myCharge on a V6-powered Mazda SUV. The car had sat all night with the lights on and was completely dead in the water. Well, it was much easier to hook up to the battery of course, and even easier to get the vehicle under way. We told the owner to go for a long drive so the alternator could recharge the empty battery. Missions accomplished!

In closing, here’s a comment one of our readers made: I started my diesel tractor with a device like this. I let it charge the battery back up, removed it and then cranked it over. With a gas engine, I left it hooked up and started it right up. You don’t want to leave it hooked up too long while cranking it.
