The July 5, 2014 Fifth Annual “Run What You Brung” motorcycle drag races in Oldtown were the largest and most successful to date, according to race director and founder, Peter “Algie” Pirrello, owner of Killing Machine Choppers. The race attracted thousands of spectators and participants including many from as far away as Oregon, California, Montana, and Canada.

This event would not be possible without the sponsors, vendors, and especially the dedicated staff of volunteers headed by the Washington Nomad Chapter of the Hells Angels, Tonya Murray of Curley’s Hauser Junction, Clara Wilson of “Smoke & Mirrors Photography“, Jamie Zachary of Y.E.S., J. Sprague of SafetyLine, and the musical director Brian Neville of Classic Auto Body.

For the second straight year, the race net proceeds were donated to the Spokane Veterans Forum.

The Spokane Veterans Forum is a nonprofit that provides the therapeutic readjustment support and one-on-one veteran mentors for veterans who are defendants passing through the justice system in six area veterans courts. Algie learned of the Forum and their needs from his good friend, veteran and forum mentor Michael “Psycho” Lovas. Unfortunately, Mr. Lovas was killed when his motorcycle was struck by a truck last year. The race has been dedicated to his memory. Algie was honored with a certificate of appreciation at the Forum training session on July 17th for organizing the race.

Several representatives from the Washington Nomad Chapter of the Hells Angels (the event’s largest sponsor) presented the $1,500 in proceeds to the Forum before the appreciative gathering of over 100 vets, mentors, and Forum staff at the Washington Army National Guard Readiness Center in Spokane. The Hells Angels’ representatives also thanked all the veterans in attendance for their service.
