New York Councilman Proposes Bill to Let Motorcyclists Park Free

 

Standing before rows of bikes parked neatly on the plaza outside of Queens Borough Hall, Councilman Peter F. Vallone Jr. detailed a bill that would make motorcycle parking free in the city. Assemblyman Michael G. DenDekker, who said he recently received a ticket for the first time in 34 years of riding, is proposing a similar bill in Albany.

Currently, the vehicles are subject to Muni-Meter rates, as any car would be. But motorcyclists say enforcement is inconsistent, and contend that there is no suitable place on their vehicles to display the receipts. Some riders said receipts were often stolen, blown away, or damaged by rain.
