AMA announces AMA Vintage Motocross and AMA Vintage Hare Scrambles National Championship Series

By | General Posts

Vintage motorcycles and the men and women who love to race them will see more track time this summer in the AMA Vintage Motocross and AMA Vintage Hare Scrambles National Championship Series. The new series will kick off on May 4-5 in Athens, Ohio, and wrap up at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days in Lexington, Ohio, on July 19-21.

"Vintage racing is an important part of the AMA's past, present and future, and I'm pleased that we are able to expand our vintage motocross program into a series," said AMA Motocross Manager Kip Bigelow. "Our members have expressed considerable interest in more vintage racing and we're pleased to partner with an experienced promoter. I'm looking forward to some great racing on the track, as well as some invigorating bench racing and reminiscing about old times that goes hand-in-hand with the sport."

Each round will feature two days of racing: vintage hare scrambles and motocross competition on Saturdays and post-vintage hare scrambles and motocross on Sundays.

"Few pastimes are as liberating, exciting and fun as riding a dirtbike fast through the woods — just like when we were kids," said AMA Off-Road Manager Chuck Weir. "Vintage motorcycle competition remains one of the most accessible, affordable and least-intimidating ways to get involved in motorsports racing. I encourage all AMA members with a vintage motorcycle in their sheds to consider battling for an AMA Vintage National Championship in 2013. Who says you can't be young again?"

AMA-chartered promoter Bart Newman from Log Road MX will serve as the series organizer in addition to hosting the second round on June 1-2.

"The chance to be a part of the AMA Vintage National Championship Series has been in the works for a couple years," said Newman. "Assembling a group of fellow promoters with a passion for the sport was paramount in making this series a success, and we have done that. This four-race series incorporates hare scrambles, vintage motocross and modern support classes for riders from 10-years old to 100-years old. I am super pumped to be a part it."

The AMA Vintage Motocross and AMA Vintage Hare Scrambles National Championship Series expand the AMA Vintage Grand Championships, held each summer at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days. Previously, AMA-sanctioned vintage racing followed the AMA Grand Championship model, which has a long and proven history with premier events such as the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn's and the Dirt Track Grand Championships.

The vintage motocross and hare scrambles series join the AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Championship Series, which is in its third year and also features a round at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days.

Bikernet Video Treat: Brooklyn Bike Invitational

Video posted on Vimeo by

On sept. 17 2011 a group of guys From a Blog deemed the White Knights In the House of Kolor, from Brooklyn, New York put on a great motorcycle show called the Brooklyn invitational. My bike No. 9 was one of the 20 or so bikes that was invited to this extremely masterful production. Other big names such as Paul cox, Keino, Tom Fugle, Lock Baker, And many many more, were there to be a part of the show. While I was there I decided to take as much footage as I could to put this short video together. I don't think this show will ever be topped as far as the variety of the builders that they invite and the different minds and cultures that come together in one spot to share in a common interest of custom motorcycles. It is a great honor on my part to be amongst these people that have inspired me so much. This video is a sort of token of gratitude for the experience of getting to be a part of it. Thank you Wes, Jeffrey, John, and Keino for having me again

France Could Ban Motorcycles from Mountain Passes

By | General Posts

Too much motorbiking can easily turn into no biking at all, or at least that's how things are moving in France. Alain Perret, prefect of Lower-Rhine region in France, wants to ban the access of motorcycles in the high mountain passes of the Vosgi during weekends. The only high passes remaining unaffected by such law initiative are Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, Bonhomme and Bussang.

Now, before we get to tourists and Human Rights, what would happen to the guys living and working in the area and riding motorcycles? Are they going to apply for some special permits allowing them to ride to work or see their relatives, or what?

The French Motorcycling Federation and the French Federation of Pissed Motorcyclists (who have a long and funny history in protests against stupid French laws) have already filed complaints against such a law.

Avon Offers Cobra Gl 1800 Tire Combination

By | General Posts

Specially designed for the Honda Gold Wing 1800, the Cobra GL 1800 tires from Avon Motorcycle Tyres are the perfect choice for the rigorous demands of the powerful launches, fast acceleration, hard cornering and hard braking of this powerful bike.

When compared to the stock tires, the Cobra GL 1800 rear tire offers an increased load index of 80 to handle nearly 1,000 pounds. A triple compound, including a longer lasting compound in the center, softer shoulder compound for improved grip and cornering performance, and a third compound underneath, work together to reduce tire temperature and increase mileage. This six-ply tire includes two Aramid belts and a nylon belt to reinforce and stabilize the tire carcass, reduce tire flex under heavier loads, and provide a more comfortable ride. Force Following Grooves transmit energy across the surface of the tire for even wear and longer life.

“It’s important to use a model-specific tire for the Honda Gold Wing 1800 because this bike places rigorous demands on the tires,” stated Sukoshi Fahey, Sales & Marketing Manager, Avon Tyres. “This bike is fast and powerful. The Cobra GL 1800 tires have been developed with big, solid blocks of rubber to resist irregular wear, the elimination of the center groove for better handling in the wet and on irregular surfaces, and an increased load index for the rear tire.”

The Cobra GL 1800 tires are available in size 130/70R18 (#90000001167) front, and size 180/60R16 (#90000001418) rear. Both include the popular Cobra snakeskin effect sidewall for the ultimate style.
