As far back as early 2020, Triumph announced that it reached an agreement with Bajaj – one of the largest motorcycle firms in the world – to develop and build an all-new range of so-called ‘baby’ Triumphs that would fill in the 200 – 750cc engine displacement category. While the plan called for the companies to roll out the first models in the collaboration in 2022, the project has been pushed back as a consequence of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that the pandemic crisis seems to be loosening its grip, both parties say they’re back on track to develop the bikes. Triumph Head of Brand Management Miles Perkins says prototypes have already been created and plans are back in the offing. “That’s going great guns, I have seen the development motorcycles – and the prototype for those – it’s all on track,” Perkins says. “We haven’t yet confirmed exactly what the bikes are and exactly when we will launch them but the news is forthcoming soon.” And fear not, though Triumph hasn’t confirmed exactly which the partnership will create models, it has said the resulting bikes will be sold globally rather be sold only in Asian markets more conducive to sales of cheaper, small capacity motorcycles. Royal Enfield recalls 236,966 motorcycles on ignition coil defect

The defect is in the ignition coil that can cause misfiring, reduced vehicle performance, or rarely an electric short circuit. The three motorcycle models include the Meteor 350, Classic and Bullet. While the company is recalling Meteor 350 units built between December 2020 and April 2021, the Classic and Bullet units produced between January and April 2021 have been recalled. In a press statement, Royal Enfield states that the defect was discovered during routine internal testing and the issue has been clearly identified and isolated to specific batches of material sourced from an external supplier. The recall has been initiated as a precautionary measure, the statement continues adding that the issue is rare and does not impact all motorcycles manufactured during the mentioned period. Is your motorcycle affected? Close to 2,36,966 motorcycles of the Classic, Bullet and Meteor models will be recalled. As mentioned above, only those manufactured and sold between December 2020 and April 2021 for the Meteor, and between January and April 2021 for the Classic and Bullet. Lowes and Fernandez complete more valuable testing miles in Jerez The Elf Marc VDS Racing Team continued its busy March schedule with another constructive two-day test session for Sam Lowes and Augusto Fernandez in Jerez. Pleasant early spring temperatures of 18 degrees and grippy track conditions enabled Lowes and Fernandez to complete a hectic but very positive test schedule as the countdown to round one in Qatar continues. The pair took full advantage of the favourable conditions to complete 317 important data-gathering laps between them, with the main focus on fine-tuning the race set-up of their Kalex machinery. The next track outing for Lowes and Fernandez will be for the one and only official test at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar on March 19-21. That test is immediately followed by a Doha double-header to start the 2021 Moto2 title chase on March 28 and April 4. A busy first day stint of 83 laps gave Fernandez the chance to work on some modified parts made available by Kalex to help with his consistency on track. Is This Patented Simulator The Future Of Motorcycle Testing?

The closest you can get to the real deal, however, is by hitting the arcades and getting in the saddle of one of those plastic replicas attached to the Superbikes games that only lean at a 70-degree angle. Italian firm Mototrainer took things a step further with its simulator, allowing gamers and pro racers alike to attach their bike to a sort of tipping platform that allow riders to lean the bike safely. All you need is a big enough screen to make you believe you’re there. Now, driving simulator specialist Vi-Grade is taking things up a notch with its version of a motorcycle simulator and the Germans aren’t messing around. The contraption places the bike inside a cube-shaped frame attached to six seemingly hydraulic arms that allow the bike to tip without falling. The system also includes a sort of harness worn by the rider and attached to the frame using cables, a design meant to mimic the forces exerted on the body while riding (being pulled backward during acceleration, for instance). According to Bike Social, the system would have a more commercial/professional application rather than a personal one. The U.K. publication suggests that the system could be used by manufacturers to test their new products, for instance, or by pro racers to get some practice in off the track. While the company specializes in advanced simulators, there’s nothing in Vi-Grade’s patent that suggests a customer couldn’t get their hands on one provided they have the space and the funds for the setup that likely won’t go for cheap.
