Pirelli Storms to Third Consecutive Daytona 200 Victory

By General Posts

For the second consecutive year, Paasch captured the victory and Rolex

Brandon Paasch, Cam Peterson, and Sheridan Morais Make it an all Pirelli Podium Sweep using DIABLO™ Superbike Slicks

DAYTONA, Fla. (March 12, 2022) – Pirelli Tire North America stormed to victory and a one, two, three finish at the 80th running of the Daytona 200. The victory marked the second consecutive at Daytona for TOBC Racing rider Brandon Paasch who relied on the performance of the DIABLO™ Superbike range in each of his successes. Attack Performance Yamaha rider Cam Peterson came up 0.007 short to finish second, followed by fellow South African Sheridan Morais in third aboard his Syntainics / Penz13 racing machine, making it an all Pirelli podium sweep for the first time in the event’s history.

“Man, what a race,” said Paasch. “I kind of hung back early to let everyone settle in before making my moves and we got going just in time. That was a close finish and the slingshot worked out perfectly. My team decided to not change tires on our last pit stop, which definitely was a gamble, but it showed how much traction was left in my Pirelli’s as we came to the final stretch. A huge thank you to Pirelli for their efforts that have played a big part in my Daytona 200 victories!”

The 57-lap shootout proved to be an all-out battle as riders exchanged passes for the podium positions lap-after-lap. Paasch used patience for the majority of the race, running just inside the top-five with his sights locked in on the front-runners. As riders began to make their final pit stops, Paasch found himself out front before making a pit stop of his own, allowing Peterson to inherit the lead with 12-laps remaining. Paasch and the TOBC Racing team elected to pit for fuel only after seeing how well the DIABLO™ Superbike slicks continued to hold up. He would return to the track in second but was quickly shuffled to fourth, as he got back up to speed.

“My team absolutely crushed that second pit stop, which put me in a great position,” said Peterson. “I was kind of out there in no man’s land with a little bit of traffic and no draft. I came around to the finish and thought I had put myself in the perfect position, and at the last second, I could feel Brandon there and tried to push up on him. It was a fun race and a good confidence builder.”

Paasch and Morais used one another to begin a push towards the front, slowly closing in on the rear wheel of Peterson with just three laps to go. With the race to the checkered flag on, it was Paasch who proved to have a brilliant strategy holding back throughout the race and using a slingshot move down the final straight to take the victory by just 0.007 seconds over Peterson. Morais was just behind the lead duo to complete the podium in third, 0.057 seconds behind the winner.

The victory marks the first time that Pirelli has won the Daytona 200 three consecutive times. Kyle Wyman won in 2019 and Paasch in 2021 and 2022. No race was held in 2021.

“I wanted to break away so bad, but it just seemed impossible,” said Morais. “That was a fun race. Probably the most fun I have ever had in a race. Every lap someone was there. I thought Cam should have had that race, but we put our heads down and managed to close that gap and it was a battle to the finish.”

Paasch’s race-winning Triumph set the fastest lap of the race with a 1:49.959 and was equipped with a 120/70R17 DIABLO Superbike SC2 front and 190/60R17 Daytona rear tire.

“What an incredible way to cap off the weekend here at Daytona,” said Oscar Solis, senior racing manager, Pirelli. “To be able to win this iconic event for the third consecutive time is special and to do it by sweeping the podium just makes it that much sweeter! It was a tight race to the finish and having so many Pirelli riders battling for the win just shows how capable the DIABLO™ Superbike range is. Congratulations to Brandon on the win and Cam and Sheridan on their podiums!”

In addition to capturing the top three spots, Pirelli showed its domination with six riders in the top eight positions, including TOBC Racings Danny Eslick sixth, TSE Racing’s Harry Truelove seventh, and Vision Wheel / Discount Tire / KWS Motorsports rider Geoff May eighth. With MotoAmerica and Daytona allowing riders to choose the tire brand of their choice, more than half of the grid elected to run Pirelli.

1. Brandon Paasch
2. Cam Peterson
3. Sheridan Morais

Pirelli Unveils The New DIABLO ROSSO IV CORSA

By General Posts

The Sportiest Tire in the Diablo Rosso Family, Available in the Celebratory Edition of Pirelli’s 150-Year Anniversary

• Ideal for riders who want performance upgrades for their motorcycles
• Higher grip, enhanced “fast” handling and performance consistency
• Bi-compound scheme both on front and rear tire
• Slicker tread pattern compared to DIABLO ROSSO IV
• Racing-derived technologies applied to profiles and structures

ROME, Ga. (February 10, 2021) – Pirelli presents the new DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa, the high-performance hypersport tire that raises the bar of sport riding even higher within the DIABLO ROSSO family. The new DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa represents a fiercer version of the DIABLO ROSSO IV super sport tire, created to satisfy the most demanding motorcyclists seeking a tire capable of high performance, to fully utilize the potential of their bikes.

DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa was born in the year in which Pirelli celebrates its 150th anniversary and becomes an integral part of the celebrations. During 2022 a limited edition DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa pays homage to this milestone and features the Pirelli’s 150th anniversary logo on its sidewall.

Formed in Milan on January 28, 1872, the company began its business with diversified rubber products, making the first tire for bicycles in 1890. Always passionate about competition, Pirelli participated in the first motorcycle races in 1897 and today continues with the role of sole supplier to the Superbike World Championship, a collaboration that started in 2004, as well as being the most successful brand in MXGP. Today Pirelli is the only tire company focused exclusively on the consumer world, with products and services for cars, motorcycles and bicycles.

Who is DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa designed for?
DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa is the ideal choice for:
• Motorcyclists who love a dynamic riding style on winding roads and mountain passes, who want a tire to match the sporty performance of their motorcycle.
• Motorcyclists who are passionate about tuning, who look for performance upgrades and take care of the bike set-up and aesthetics. These riders seek the optimal set-up of their motorcycle according to the type of use, also through the upgrade to high-performance equipment. They also recognize the lightning-shaped tread design, here interrupted, as the iconic symbol representing DIABLO ROSSO sporty performance.

The benefits of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa:
The main benefits of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa are:

Higher grip in dry conditions thanks to a slicker tread design that guarantees a larger footprint area alongside the use of innovative compounds that increase mechanical grip levels.

Enhanced high-performance handling and precise feedback. The innovative technologies applied to the carcass make DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa able to adhere to the micro-roughness of the asphalt, ensuring precise feedback and a feeling of control.

Performance consistency over multiple riding sessions, made possible by the characteristics of the tread pattern, where the intended repetition of the grooves offers high resistance to stress, and, by the new arrangement of the compounds, ensures optimal thermal balance.

THE TIRE IN DETAILS
Tread Pattern
The tread design of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa features a calculated repetition of the central grooves and a slicker shoulder area, for a void/fill ratio 25%[1] lower than DIABLO ROSSO IV.

In the central area, the group of longitudinal grooves assures directional stability and water evacuation. Their orientation follows the wear waves and enables an even wear, while their position increase the structural stability of the tire to give performance consistency over multiple riding sessions.

In the intermediate area, linear grooves of different lengths are positioned using a scheme that balances compound flexibility and water evacuation. DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa features a large slick area on the shoulders, able to offer high levels of grip, precision and stability at maximum lean angles.

Compounds
The front tire is divided into three areas using two different compounds:

The central band has a Full Silica compound that occupies around 45% of the section width and is present in the contact area used up to 25 degrees of lean angle.

The side areas have a softer compound, also Full Silica, thanks to the use of innovative resins that offer excellent grip and improve the front tire feedback.

The rear tire also has a bi-compound scheme for excellent road performance and works in harmony with the front.

The central Full Silica compound allows for a quick warm-up and excellent chemical grip on different surface conditions.

The shoulder compound is 100% Carbon Black and derives directly from the compounds of DIABLO Supercorsa SC used in racing competitions. This compound is able to offer support at full lean and traction during acceleration managing the torque generated by the latest generation superbikes.

Profiles
Pirelli exploits all the know-how acquired in the fastest production-derived motorcycle championship. The profiles of DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa are therefore race-derived and are characterized by a multi radius design that improves the tire’s handling.

The central area has a sharper profile to facilitate immediate lean and rapid change of direction. In the lateral areas, on the other hand, the profile curvature is less accentuated in order to increase the contact area and ensure maximum traction when cornering. Front and rear tires follow a similar profile design, thus ensuring a perfectly balanced and neutral behavior of the set.

Structure
With DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa Pirelli uses a racing-derived structure with zero-degree steel belt, which manages to adapt perfectly to different levels of stress without compromising comfort and work optimally with the most advanced electronic control systems.

The stiff cord technology features structural cords that are more rigid and at the same time distributed with less density (-20%) compared to a standard sport tire[2]. This scheme leaves more room for the rubber compound, which improves riding feeling and precision thanks to its damping properties, thus transmitting to the rider, a safety feeling and control of the motorcycle.

The DIABLO ROSSO IV Corsa range includes the following sizes.

Front
• 110/70 ZR 17 M/C 54W TL                                        07/2022
• 120/70 ZR 17 M/C (58W) TL                                      01/2022

ROME, Ga. (September 9, 2021) – Pirelli Tire North America captured the brand’s fifth absolute motorcycle track record of the 2021 racing season as JC Camacho put in an impressive performance at MSR in Cresson, Texas. The new lap record was set aboard a 2019 Kawasaki Ninja® ZX™-10R motorcycle-equipped with Pirelli DIABLO Superbike slicks.

“It was a solid weekend at MSR,” said Camacho. “I’ve been able to keep building on my platform and have been finding more confidence in my setup each day I take to the track. Pirelli Nation Riders Set Sights on 2021 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship

By General Posts

The 40th Annual Amateur National Championship Will Run August 2-7

ROME, Ga. (July 28, 2021) – Pirelli Tire North America has its sights set on the 40th annual AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, which is set for August 2-7. Pirelli will be on-site to assist its #PirelliNation rider support program and offer technical advice to all racers competing on SCORPION MX tires.

Amateur racers are presented the opportunity and access to the very same tires use by Pirelli’s professional racers and factory race teams, including world champions such as Tim Gajser, Antonio Cairoli, and Jeffrey Herlings. Pirelli’s approach of “we sell what we race, we race what we sell” ensures the development of the brand’s products for motocross-specific tracks and that the consumer is receiving the latest technology available.

“The AMA Amateur National Championship is always special,” said Nick Walton, off-road race manager, Pirelli. “There’s a lot of great history within the sport at Loretta Lynn’s, including with some of the sports brightest stars. Pirelli is proud to support all of its racers and families who have sacrificed and dedicated so much throughout the year for the opportunity to compete. Pirelli continues to offer amateur racers access to the very same tires used by our professional racers, which we believe will help them reach the top step of the podium.”

Pirelli will support a wide variety of talented amateurs including the BarX/Chaparral/Ecstar Suzuki Racing team, ranging from up-and-coming minibike stars to veterans and amateur pros who are set to make their professional debut later in the year. The SCORPION MX lineup ranges from 10-inch to 21-inch sizing and offers race-winning performance for 50cc – 450 cc riders.

The SCORPION MX range consists of three primary tread patterns with the SCORPION MX Soft, SCORPION MX32 Mid Soft, and SCORPION MX32 Mid Hard. Pirelli racers will use the SCORPION MX32 Mid Soft front and rear tires as a starting point on the tacky and rutty east coast soil when the gates drop in Tennessee. The SCORPION MX Soft may be considered an option for riders who are looking to get that extra traction during an early morning moto or if rain is in the forecast due to the softer and deeper soil. Recommended tire pressure is 14 psi for both front and rear tires.

Pirelli takes Top Two Positions in Bagger Racing League at Utah Motorsports

By General Posts

Michael Barnes (34) and Tyler O’Hara (29) gave Pirelli a 1-2 finish in the Bagger Racing League Bagger GP race at Utah Motorsports Campus.

Michael Barnes narrowly edged out Tyler O’Hara for the victory by 0.3 of a second.

ERDA, Utah (June 30, 2021) – Pirelli Tire North America showed its commitment to racing across all spectrums by dominating the competition in both the Bagger Racing League BAGGER GP Class and the PRO STOCK BAGGER Class at Utah Motorsports Complex on Sunday, June 27. Pirelli controlled the top two positions in BAGGER GP with Michael Barnes racing to victory aboard a Harley Davidson and Indian Motorcycle rider Tyler O’Hara finishing a close second.

Both Barnes and O’Hara relied on the performance of Pirelli’s DIABLO Superbike range. In PRO STOCK BAGGER, Benny Carlson rode his Sly Fox-backed Harley Davidson to the top step of the podium with Pirelli shod Oleg Pianykh taking second, also using the DIABLO Superbike Range of tires.

Michael Barnes and Tyler O’Hara led the way with a Pirelli one-two finish in the Bagger GP class.

“The weekend off started really good and I was able to get pole position,” said Barnes. “I was fast right out of the gate and the switch over to the DIABLO Superbike SCX rear helped us find even more speed on the racetrack. It got hotter heading into the main race, but it seemed to help the tire become even more consistent and proved to be no issue. Along with Oscar’s [Solis] help, we continued to make improvements all weekend long and did a lot of little fine-tuning with air pressure. It was an incredible weekend!”

Barnes, who was able to control the pace out front, used a 125/70-17 DIABLO Superbike SC1 front tire paired with a 200/65-17 DIABLO Superbike SCX rear. O’Hara opted for a 120/70-17 DIABLO Superbike SC2 front and a 190/60-17 DIABLO Superbike SCX rear to keep the pressure on Barnes for the majority of the race.

“That was the fastest I’ve ever gone on my Indian Challenger,” said O’Hara. “The new Pirelli DIABLO Superbike SCX is next level. My tires provided me with the most lean angle and edge grip I’ve ever had in bagger racing. Thank you, Pirelli, for the support!”

O’Hara managed to clock the fastest lap time of the race and of any rider throughout the weekend with a 1:38.550. Barnes recorded a best lap time of 1:38.635. The duo finished with more than 30-seconds to spare over their nearest competitor.

“What Pirelli riders were able to accomplish this weekend was nothing short of amazing,” said Oscar Solis, senior racing manager, Pirelli. “Bagger racing is something that we’ve only begun to scratch the surface with and it’s really satisfying to have this kind of success right away. Pirelli’s commitment and dedication to racing are second to none and I believe that this weekend just further showed when racers have a choice, they choose Pirelli. Congratulations to Michael [Barnes] and Tyler [O’Hara] on their great rides!”

Pirelli continues to set the bar in roadracing throughout North America, and when spec tire rules do not apply, has been the go-to tire choice for racers looking to reach the top step of the podium. Over the weekend, Pirelli took the lion’s share of podium spots, with a total of four riders on the Bagger Racing League’s first podium presentations.

Stefano Mesa and Pirelli Take Two with Track Records at Summit Point Raceway and Nelson Ledges Road Course

Mesa’s Ninja® ZX™-10R is Unstoppable with the New DIABLO Superbike SCX Rear

ROME, Ga. (June 10, 2021) – Pirelli Tire North America captured the brand’s third and fourth absolute motorcycle track record of the 2021 racing season as Stefano Mesa put in an impressive performance at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia and then backed it up with an inspiring ride at Nelson Ledges Road Course in Garrettsville, Ohio. The new lap records were set aboard a 2021 Kawasaki Ninja® ZX™-10R motorcycle-equipped with Pirelli DIABLO Superbike slicks.

“The feeling of achievement in setting a lap record just never gets old,” said Mesa. “Each year these things become harder and harder to accomplish but having Pirelli and the new products that they continue to develop certainly make a world of difference. They continue to develop incredible products and in return that allows me to be faster. The new 125/70 and 200/65 sizing are just insane, and when combined with this SCX rear compound, it’s a phenomenal package.”

Mesa’s new lap record of 1:10.551 in the Championship Cup Series at Summit Point Raceway was set in the Unlimited GP class, topping his own previous lap record of 1:10.728. A DIABLO Superbike SC2 in 125/70-17 was used on the front of his ZX-10R motorcycle, while a DIABLO Superbike SCX in 200/65-17 sizing was used on the rear. Just one week later, Mesa carried his momentum into Nelson Ledges Road Course by setting a new lap record of 1:03.926 in the WERA Series’ A Superstock class. A DIABLO Superbike SC1 front in 125/70-17 sizing and DIABLO Superbike SCX rear in 200/65-17 sizing were used to outpace the previous record of 1:04.192.

“We’ve seen the new SCX rear tire start to drop lap times across the nation, so these records are no surprise,” said Oscar Solis, Senior Racing Manager, Pirelli. “Stefano [Mesa] has a new weapon of choice with the SCX and we’re glad that he continues to put his trust in the Pirelli brand. He always manages to make this look easy, but we know it’s not. Congrats Stefano!”

Mesa is now the third different Pirelli rider to earn an absolute motorcycle track record in 2021 and the first to do so twice. Pirelli continues to remain the motorcycle tire of choice for North American riders looking to reach the top step of the podium and log fast laps at events and series that do not have a spec tire rule. Reward prizes are offered to riders who set a new motorcycle track record while using Pirelli race compound tires.
