Seventh Annual Riding for Warriors event supporting Veterans

The group surpassed its initial goal, raising more than $73,000 to help veterans and their families. To honor those who’ve served, a group of motorcycle riders are making their way from New York City to Washington, D.C. and back. The first stop Saturday night was at Battlefield Harley Davidson in Gettysburg. The first 200 miles of their trip is complete, all to benefit Hope for the Warriors, specifically the Warrior’s Wish program, funding requests from wounded veterans. “It could be as simple as specialty workout gear, bicycle. It could be something like woodworking equipment,” Michael Nehlsen, organizer of Riding for Warriors said. It’s Nehlsen’s seventh year helping fund those wishes. “This year, unlike other years, I’ve actually invited some of my friends, colleagues and other veterans to ride with me,” Nehlsen said. While planning this year’s first stop, he met Sandy Sipe, whose son Lance Corporal Jamie Sipe of Camp Hill died in 2017. “He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Gulf War era who honorably served five years from 18 until he turned 23 years old,” Nehlsen said. His family was recognized by the organization, including seven-year-old son Austin, who was gifted a motorized bike and money for a trust account. “We will never forget this and moving forward we will pay it forward to others and I think it’s something great for our family to feel that someone else is honoring our, my son,” Sipe said. The headlight gets a tint of yellow while the special medals have been made by Crankbrothers. To keep consistency with the all-black theme of the bike, the makers have blacked out the battery tank pads, chain and the large stainless steel panel situated in the middle of the frame. Indiana Jones Motorcycle Guy Hilariously Recalls Major ‘Distraction’ On Set

Of course, seeing Harrison Ford riding motorbikes in ancient ruins left an impression on moviegoers. One of those moviegoers was Hollywood’s go-to motorcycle guy Justin Kell. He loved being on set and seeing Ford in full Indy mode, but there was one recurring hilarious moment. Kell recalled a major distraction while working on the set of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Taking part in an Indiana Jones film would be any fan’s dream. And Justin Kell got to witness so many things while working on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Of course, motorcycles are a huge part of the Indy legacy. So, it only made sense for Kell to be part of the production. The motorcycle expert gave a peek into what working on the Indiana Jones sequel was like. “One of the distractions I had to deal with was Steven Spielberg’s DP, who was a rider, and every once in awhile would snag one of the bikes when I wasn’t looking. I would be with my guys, hear one of them fire up, and watch as he drove by us with the middle finger raised. [Laughs.] Of course, all of that was clearly worth it, especially when I first got to set to see Spielberg behind the camera and Harrison Ford walked out in that Indy costume. Not to mention I got to ride a Harley through the library at Yale College, a scene a lot of people remember. Deep 18-inch Wheels on Custom Harley-Davidson

This is how a Japanese shop by the name of Bad Land likes to play the game, and most of the time it nails the effect it goes for. Bad Land is one of those garages that don’t like to fool around when it comes to its own interpretation of two-wheelers. Specializing in reinterpreting Harley-Davidson creations, the shop has been over the years responsible for making possibly hundreds of unique projects, some of which we’ve already featured. The transformed Harley you’re looking at now is called Ise Dragon, and it follows in the footsteps of all other Bad Land builds with cold, dark looks, a polished appearance, and custom parts at times so extreme it is hard to find anywhere else – the wheels, for instance, are of the shop’s own design and both sized 18 inches, but the rear one looks so deep it kind of makes one afraid not to get lost in it – check photos for details. Of all the builds of the Japanese we’ve featured so far, this one probably has the most Bad Land-made bits. I got talking to a lady who drove from Tekapo in the morning. She told us that the first club group ran into dense hoar frost and thick fog all the way from Tekapo to the Ohau turnoff. BMW makes big impression at its first Sturgis Rally

Oleg Satanovsky, product communications manager at BMW, said this is the first year BMW has been in Sturgis and wanted to do “something cool.” “We’ve never really had a motorcycle that fits as a cruiser,” he said. “Last year we would’ve been here for the first time, but COVID-19 got in the way. Finally we were able to take everything, everything’s been packed up and we were waiting for it to start up this year.” Satanovsky said people can submit photos by tagging BMW on social media. Throughout the week, an artist will add caricatures to a mural that features a BMW motorcycle and a rider in black and white spray paint. Two artists from New York worked on the mural, along with another artist who works on caricatures. After the week is over, the mural will disappear from Sturgis, but it’ll be online. BMW isn’t selling anything at its stand on the northeast side of Main Street in Sturgis, but it is displaying its new R 18 model motorcycles. Satanovsky said people are welcome to test drive the new model. Those who don’t have a license but are interested in the new model can sit on a bike that’s held on a stand. “You can start it up, feel like you’re riding it, shift through the gears and learn how the motorcycle works without having a motorcycle license,” Satanovsky said.
