SA Police launch first solo road safety campaign with a focus on the safety of motorcyclists

by Steve Rice from https://www.perthnow.com.au Motorcycles – there’s a lot riding on it. SA Police’s first solo road safety campaign intermingles the process of starting a bike with candid moments of a father’s life. You’ll ride slower after this. The campaign – the first since the Motor Accident Commission was wound up in June – focuses on motorcycle riders and specifically men, who are most at risk while on the road. It emphasises the need for them to return home safely and shows a variety of invaluable life elements – partners, children and pets – that would be lost if they died. Police say riding motorcycles is a dangerous form of transport because of low visibility and minimal protection on the roads and that men are over represented in casualty crashes. Motorcyclists comprise 15 of the state’s 89 road fatalities so far this year, compared with 10 for the whole of 2018. The greatest representation of motorcycle-related serious injuries last year were men aged 50-59 followed by men aged 30-39. SA Police acting Assistant Commissioner Dean Miller said the campaign aimed to address attitudes towards motorcycle riding. “Police are committed to improving road safety to reduce road deaths and serious injury crashes on South Australian roads,” he said. “We believe this is a very balanced approach to changing road user behaviour, particularly for motorcyclists. It contributes to our overall goal to make our roads safer for every road user.” Police Minister Corey Wingard said the campaign was hard-hitting and would make an impression on motorcycle riders. “We as a Government needed to look at better ways of tackling road safety,” he said. “SAPOL is in a unique position when it comes to road safety issues as they see first-hand the trauma that can occur on our roads. “I applaud SAPOL […]

The idea is that the show provides visitors with everything they need to build their own “perfect day out”. Show MD Finlay McAllan told Mirror Motorcycling: “We pride ourselves on being a show that offers everything under one roof and we place a lot of importance on making sure there is something for everyone. “It doesn’t matter if you’ve been riding for 40 years or you’ve not got your licence yet, Motorcycle Live is a great place to visit. “We know that visitors make the show their perfect day out – we just aim to give them the tools to do that. “Whether you’re bringing your great grandparents or a toddler, there’s something for everyone.” Mr McAllan added: “There are retail bargains and the chance to try on kit, interviews with riders, chat directly with manufacturers on their stands and much more.” The show features all the new machinery for 2020, as well as classics, customs and examples from the motorsport world. There are also no fewer than 10 different opportunities to actually get on and ride something – all for free. 2020 Ducati Streetfighter V4 packs 208 hp in a 400-lb package

by Ronan Glon from https://www.autoblog.com/ It’s an evolution of the world’s best-selling superbike Over a thousand attendees wildly cheered as Ducati boss Claudio Domenicali unveiled the 2020 Streetfighter V4, a racing-inspired motorcycle that weighs less than a Chevrolet big-block engine yet packs more power than a Subaru BRZ. It’s revving proof that jaw-dropping horsepower and eye-catching design are still the guiding lights in the motorcycle industry. The Streetfighter V4 is a Panigale V4 (the world’s best-selling superbike) stripped down to the bare essentials. In car terms, it’s like if Audi dropped the powertrain from the R8 LMS into a purer, simpler variant of the car. While that sounds relatively simple, Domenicali explained striking the right balance between performance, usability, and design was much more difficult than anyone anticipated. The company’s engineers put the Streetfighter through its paces all over the world — even at Pikes Peak. “We test prototypes once a month. About one year ago, we were in Sardinia and we were very unhappy [with this bike]. We were worried, but we totally changed the situation. It has taken one year of hard work, but in the last tests we’ve carried out, you can really feel the difference,” he explained. Andrea Ferraresi, Ducati’s lead designer, instructed his team to draw inspiration from the Joker; yes, that Joker. The Streetfighter’s face was extremely important during the development process, because it’s a model without any side fairing. The drivetrain is fully exposed, hence why this type of motorcycle is called naked. The front end consequently has to convey the bike’s identity on its own, yet it still needs to house the headlights, plus a growing list of electronics. Stylists bent the rules to add biplane wings near the front. Domenicali conceded it was a contentious decision, but the winglets ultimately stayed

An Aston Martin motorcycle will grace the world soon enough

by Sean Szymkowski from https://www.cnet.com by Luke Wilkinson from https://www.autoexpress.co.uk The bike will be a collaboration between the automaker and Brough Superior. Aston Martin is prepared to dive into the world of motorcycles, thanks to a collaborative effort between it and storied British motorcycle maker, Brough Superior. Motorcycle fans will see the Aston Martin badge grace a two-wheeled contraption for the first time next month when the automaker and motorcycle maker unveil a carefully crafted bike. Aston Martin said Thursday the first motorcycle coming to life will debut at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy, on Nov. 5. Details are, obviously, absent for now. However, the British carmaker underscored that it tapped into its decades of engineering and design expertise to help Brough Superior craft something only the two companies could create. It’s something of a passion project, too, as Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman and Brough Superior CEO Thierry Henriette are both motorcycle enthusiasts. “The opportunity to collaborate with Brough Superior has given us the chance to bring our own unique views on how beauty and engineering can combine to create a highly emotive piece of vehicle design,” Reichman said of the project in a statement. Aston Martin has continuously expanded its reach, and the upcoming motorcycle is the latest branch sprung from the British automaker. The company has plans for not one, but three mid-engine supercars in the near future, and a resurrected Lagonda brand will handle luxury electric vehicles. A DBX luxury SUV will also launch in the coming months. We’ll see the limited-edition motorcycle in a couple of weeks and I expected it to be nothing but a grand piece of transportation. Aston Martin and historic British motorcycle manufacturer Brough Superior will unveil a new motorcycle this November Aston Martin

This Harley-Davidson Custom Bike Was Signed by the Pope, and Now It’s For Sale

by Daniel Patrascu from https://www.autoevolution.com If anything, the six years spent by Pope Francis at the head of the Holy See have been characterized by unorthodox approaches to very catholic problems. So when you hear the Pope signed his name on a custom motorcycle, there’s no surprise there. The bike in questions started life as a 2016 1,570cc Harley-Davidson owned by a Harley dealer in Germany. At the request of the Jesus Bikers group in Austria – yes, there is such a thing – the bike was modified with the goal of being donated to the Pontifical Mission Societies, a group that provides support for Catholic overseas missions. It was named White Unique because it is finished in pearlescent white mixed with Chicano detailing, gold-plated components, and a Dorne wreath ornament. The two cherries on the cake are the sunken cross and Pope Francis’ signature on the tank. So, how did the Pope got tied up to this? The bike was shown for the first time on June 29 in Würzburg, Germany, and then headed off to the Vatican as part of a procession of the Jesus Bikers. Once at the Vatican, on July 7, the bike was presented to the Pope in St Peter’s Square, where His Holiness blessed it and signed it, surrounded by a crowd of 17,000 people. On October 20, the bike is heading for the Bonhams Autumn Stafford Sale where the auction house by the same name hopes to sell it for anywhere in between £50,000 – £100,000 for it. All the proceeds are to be donated for charity. “We are incredibly proud to be entrusted with the sale of this unique motorcycle, set to benefit such an important cause,” said in a statement James Stensel, Head of Bonhams Collectors’ Motorcycles UK. “It’s fitting that

Riding Free from DC: Your Weekly Biker Bulletin from Inside the Beltway

Meeting of the Minds Last week the 35th Annual Meeting of the Minds was held in Bloomington, Minnesota. The gathering of so many dedicated and selfless motorcycle advocates in one place was powerful. We in D.C. are continually talking with lawmakers about our membership and the riding community but being in the same room with the people we represent further fueled our passion for advocating on your behalf. Two full days of meetings and panels covered a wide range of issues including collaboration between SMRO’s and clubs, lobbying tips and tricks, our health, being a better brother and sister, the MRF PAC and the establishment of the 2020 MRF legislative priorities. On Saturday night, we heard from two guest speakers. First Rep. Peter Stauber from the 8th Congressional district of Minnesota spent 20 minutes discussing many of the issues we face at the federal level in D.C. Congressman Stauber is a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and pledged to work with the MRF to fight for our priorities in the upcoming transportation bill. Additionally, as a former law enforcement officer, he understood our concerns regarding motorcyclist profiling and was proud to be a cosponsor of H.Res. 255 since June. He offered to meet with the D.C. team in the coming weeks to follow up on our priorities. Second, State Senator John Hoffman from the Minnesota State Senate addressed the group. He spoke about working with local motorcycle rights groups and the battles and victories that have been fought at the State Capitol in St. Paul.   Having both a federal and a state elected officials speak to us demonstrates that motorcycle rights are a battle fought on different fronts.  State legislators and federal lawmakers each play a different but useful role in the fight for motorcycle rights. We
