E-bikes to rule the US EV market in next decade

In the last couple of years, e-bike sales have been growing steadily in the US, but they still represent a small part of the overall segment in the country. Electric vehicle market in the US in the next decade will be dominated by e-bikes, claims a media report. It forecasts a total of 113 million e-bikes will be sold in the country between 2020-2023. Sales of the electric bikes in the US have grown more than eight-fold since 2014, claims the report further. In the last couple of years, sales of e-bikes have been growing steadily in the US, but they still represent a small part of the overall bike segment in the country. As the report claims, e-bike sales jumped by an incredible 91 per cent from 2016 to 2017. Also, it grew 72 per cent from 2017 to 2018 to reach $143.4 million, as revealed by market research firm NPD Group. Between 2006 and 2012, e-bikes represented less than 1 per cent of total annual bike sales. In 2013, US customers bought 1.85 lakh e-bikes, while across all of Europe, 1.8 million units were retailed. The media report quotes Jeff Loucks, executive director of Deloitte’s Technology, Media, and Telecommunications centre, who said that e-bike sales will not increase evenly across the US. He forecasts cities, in particular, will see the biggest adoption rates. As he said, “We’re seeing more people move into the urban core of cities throughout the United States. Prairie Grove PD Ends Motorcycle Chase After Speeds Exceed 160 Mph

(KFSM) — The Prairie Grove Police Department was in a high-speed motorcycle chase that they ended because the motorcycle’s speed was deemed unsafe to continue. At approximately 9:06 p.m. last night (Dec. 14), Officer Franks attempted to make a traffic stop on a blue “sport” style motorcycle. The motorcycle had been traveling westbound on Hwy 62 at approximately 70 mph on a 55 mph zone. The motorcycle passed the officer and accelerated rapidly to 80 mph. Officer Franks turned on his lights and siren and the motorcycle began to pull over. Before the motorcycle completely stopped, it made a u-turn in front of the officer, flipped him off and sped away turning eastbound onto Hwy 62. The high-speed chase then began with the motorcycle reaching speeds of an estimated 160 mph. Sargeant Belew immediately joined the pursuit and Officer Cluck joined soon after. The motorcycle continued into Farmington where Farmington Officer Talley and Detective Collins joined to assist. The motorcycle sped through multiple intersections driving around slower moving traffic with “no regard to safety or human life,” according to Prairie Grove PD. The pursuit continued into Fayetteville where the chase led the officers northbound onto I-49. Once they hit the interstate, the motorcycle reached speeds that officers deemed unsafe to continue the pursuit. They decided to end the chase near Porter Rd. exit and AR State Police were notified.

What does Spellman know? A lot, to be honest. And, while “Truth Be Told” examines the impact of media on public opinion and the ripple effect true crime leaves in its wake, the showrunner delves deeper, using the character of Poppy Parnell (played by Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer) as an in-road to pay homage to her real-life hometown, Oakland. In the show, she examines big topics, like the class differences that exist in cities separated by a few simple bridges, and tells stories based on the nonfictional locals, like the real-life storied motorcycle club, the East Bay Dragons. Parnell is a fictional journalist who begins questioning her role in the incarceration of Warren Cave (Aaron Paul). As her posh lifestyle and public reputation get threatened, demons from Parnell’s past bubble up, leading Parnell to venture to her old Oakland stomping grounds. Spellman found this locale to be perfect for reminiscing on her childhood, in effect highlighting the profound influence a long-running regional African American motorcycle club, the East Bay Dragons MC, had on her forming identity. Now in its 60th year of existence, the East Bay Dragons are one of America’s first-ever all-black motorcycle clubs. Police link South Canberra incidents to outlaw motorcycle gangs

ACT Policing’s Taskforce Nemesis is targeting criminal gang activity in the ACT and believes at least five incidents between September and November this year are linked to outlaw motorcycle gangs. An ACT Policing spokesperson said at least one of these incidents targeted a home with no known links to outlaw motorcycle gangs. “We are urging anyone with information or footage of these incidents to contact police, as even a small piece of information may help with inquiries,” the spokesperson said. The following instances of suspected outlaw motorcycle gang activity are being investigated: About 9:55 pm on 26 September 2019: gunshots were fired at a house on Fraenkel Street, Monash About 10:20 pm on 29 October 2019: gunshots were fired at a house in Fink Crescent, Calwell About 10:40 pm on 29 October 2019: an incendiary device was thrown at a house in Pockett Avenue, Banks About 10:55 pm on 20 November 2019: an aggravated burglary and arson occurred at a house in Chirnside Place, Kambah About 10:10 pm on 25 November 2019: three cars were set on fire at the same residence as a previous incident in Fraenkel Street, Monash. Police believe these incidents were all specifically targeted and are related to outlaw motorcycle gang activity. “Officers from Taskforce Nemesis will continue to relentlessly pursue criminal gangs who seek to disrupt the safety of Canberra suburbs,” an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

York City Police Department receives motorcycle donation

America’s 911 Foundation donated a brand new 2019 Harley-Davidson police motorcycle to the York City Police Department on Saturday. Each year, the organization gives away a motorcycle to police departments, this one is the 20th one they have donated to police. Chief Troy Bankert York City Police said the motorcycle unlike a vehicle, helps them spark a conversation with the community and better their relationship. “It gives us a good opportunity to interact with the community without being inside of a car, it’s more personal but at the same time it lets us have some mobility,” said Chief Bankert. “These are people who protect us and put their lives on the line every day,” said Roger Flick, America’s 911 Foundation promotions manager, “and they want to keep their community safe and we want to help them do that.” The organization also holds a motorcycle ride to remember those who lost their lives on September 11th. The York Police Department takes part in that ride, so organizers said they were more than happy to announce the winners of this year’s raffle.

BMW’s new S 1000 XR all-season bike unveiled

With a superbike engine mounted in an adventure bike frame, the BMW S 1000 XR was an unusual concoction when it was first launched in 2015. This powerful bike was never intended as a hardcore offroad machine, but had the raised ground clearance and suspension travel to be capable of mild dirt riding, meaning the journey needn’t end when tar gives way to gravel. Its upright seating position was also suited to long-distance riding comfort. This adventure sport bike has gone on to become a popular model for the German brand, and the second-generation version has been unveiled as a lighter and more agile bike with an improved suite of safety- and convenience-enhancing electronics. Making its world debut at the recent EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy, the new S 1000 XR has shed 10kg and features a newly developed engine and suspension. The suspension has been slimmed down, the frame and swing arm are now 1.8kg lighter, and the new double-sided swing arm reduces unsprung masses — all contributing to improved agility. The updated engine is 5kg lighter and is based on the mighty four-cylinder 1,000cc unit used in BMW’s S 1000 RR superbike. While the 123kW and 113Nm outputs are unchanged, it has increased midrange power for enhanced rideability while fourth, fifth and sixth gears now have longer ratios to reduce noise and fuel consumption. In addition to a smoother slipper clutch, the new S 1000 XR also features a new electronically controlled engine drag torque control (MSR) which prevents the rear wheel from slipping as a result of abrupt throttling or downshifting. The Husqvarna Norden 901 Adventure Bike Is Heading To Production

You guys were really excited about it when it was unveiled, it made our top 10 of the coolest bikes showed at EICMA, and it even found a spot in director Jason’s top 5 bikes he’s most excited to see in 2020. Now, we learn that Husqvarna is moving ahead and will make the model a reality. In a press release published on Monday, Husqvarna confirmed that the Norden 901 will become a full-time member of its lineup. This will become the brand’s first adventure motorcycle—a welcome addition if you ask me. The brand’s main focus was motocross and dirtbikes for a long time. It only very recently made the jump to street bikes with the introduction of the Vitpilen and Svartpilen 401 in 2018, then the 701 in 2019. The Norden 901 will strengthen the manufacturer’s presence in the road bike segment and will become the biggest engine currently offered in the Swedish lineup. The Norden will run on an 890cc parallel-twin engine, use WP suspension components, and run on 21 and 17-inch wheels. That’s pretty much all the numbers we get for now. We don’t even get a release date. The company promises a lightweight adventure bike—”class-leading lightness”—that will also be comfortable and versatile. Nothing we haven’t heard before. Ask the MSF : Three Wheels Versus Two

Q:What are the main differences between riding a trike and riding a two-wheel motorcycle? Are trike training classes available? A: The common types of trikes are those with two wheels in the back (such as Harley-Davidson’s Tri Glide and Freewheeler), and those with two wheels in the front (such as Can-Am’s Spyder and Ryker). Trikes have traditional motorcycle controls, engines and seating positions, but they do not handle like traditional motorcycles. Unlike two-wheelers, three-wheelers do not lean into turns and counter-steering is not used. Instead, like an ATV, you steer a trike in the direction you want to go. Initiating a turn may require more effort and different body positioning compared to a two-wheeled motorcycle. Always set a good entry speed, look through the entire turn, and keep your eyes moving. Evaluate the turn for its geometry, surface conditions, and traffic. It helps to turn your head in the direction you want to go. Just like riding a two-wheeled motorcycle, you need to be aware of traffic and environmental conditions, compensate for inattentive car drivers, and minimize risk by using the MSF SEE system—Search, Evaluate, Execute. Since a three-wheeler is wider than a two-wheeler, stay fairly centered in the lane. When riding in a group, do not use a staggered riding position. Instead, set a minimum gap of two seconds both in front of and behind the trike. If the rest of the group wants to use a staggered formation, the three-wheeler should be the first or last in the group, so the full two seconds can easily be maintained. Trike training classes are available. The MSF has two distinct training courses for novice and experienced riders of three-wheeled motorcycles.
