Peter Fonda’s motorcycle from ‘Easy Rider’ is heading to auction

LOS ANGELES, May 15 ― The iconic “Captain America”, the motorcycle that Peter Fonda rode in the movie Easy Rider, will be auctioned off in Texas on June 5, 2021. Famous for the star-spangled banner painted on its gas tank, the motorcycle is currently estimated at between US$ 300,000 and US$ 500,000. The motorcycle in question, symbol of freedom and the hippie movement of the era, will be sold without a reserve price. This exceptional model, famous across the world, was built from an old 1952 Harley-Davidson bike bought for a pittance at the time. In 1996, the bike’s owner at the time, collector Gary Graham, sold the Captain America bike at the Dan Kruse Classic Car Productions auction to Gordon Granger. Since then, the bike has resided in Austin, Texas, where it even survived a fire in December 2010. For anyone who needs a reminder, the film Easy Rider was directed by Dennis Hopper and released in 1969. The movie is a cult road movie about two bikers leaving California to reach Louisiana. The authenticity of this model for sale is nevertheless debated among some aficionados. For the record, two bikes were used for the shoot. In 2014, one of them was sold for 1.3 million dollars. In addition to Captain America, about 20 other vehicles from Gordon Granger’s collection will also be offered at auction on June 5, all without reserve prices. Jason Momoa is a star on both big and small screens, and also a fan of the open road. His love for motorcycles led him to Blackbridge Harley-Davidson. “Jason has been part of the Harley-Davidson family for quite a while now, he’s worked very closely with the motor company with some of their projects,” Erin Mitchell, with the dealership said. “It’s a pleasure to share his enthusiasm for riding.” The dealership delivered some new electric LiveWires to Momoa and his crew. The actor of “Aquaman” and “Game of Thrones” is currently filming the second season of “See” in Toronto. “It was just fortunate, a happy accident I guess,” Mitchell said. “They noticed we were open and that we had bikes for rent.” The dealership posted about the LiveWire drop-off on social media. Several new set photos show what is likely the actor’s stuntman, under heavy make-up, of course, taking flight on a motorcycle in a high-speed chase. Riding through the streets of Gotham City, it is possible that the shots are part of a similar chase scene that has been filming with the Caped Crusader and Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman. A lot of attention has been paid to Colin Farrell’s villain, with the actor having undergone a complete transformation courtesy of the make-up department. While many have compared the look of Penguin to actor Richard Kind, there is no denying the skill that has gone into turning the handsome actor into a pretty comic-accurate version of the deformed crime boss. Cobblestones are apparently pretty slippery generally, so the film crew had to device a way to make them stickier. Enter: Coca-Cola, which for a price did the trick. Apparently, the production spent €60,000 or more than 70K in U.S. dollars to pull off the one quick stunt, with stunt head Lee Morrison revealing that 8,400 gallons of the brown stuff was also used. “I spent nearly €60,000 spraying Coca-Cola around Matera. The character is based on Evel Knievel real name Robert Craig Kneivel Jnr who was a daredevil stuntman in the 1970’s. According to Kelly, the movie giants gained financially from a character based on his father without his permission. According to Knievel junior, his father did not thrill millions, break his bones and spill his blood just so Disney can make a bunch of money. The character in contention, Duke Caboom was voiced by Keanu Reeves in Toy Story 4 and is described by Disney-Pixar as a 1970’s toy based on Canada’s greatest daredevil stuntman with confidence and swagger. The character has however never been able to do stunts advertised by his own toy commercials. He also alleged that a propelled stunt toy sold as a marketing strategy for the move, Toy Story 4, was similar to another toy released by Evel Knievel in 1973.
