Harley-Davidson dealer giving away custom bike to support Sioux nonprofit

by Dillon Adams from https://www.siouxlandproud.com SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The 81st Sturgis Motorcycle Rally kicks off Friday in the Black Hills of South Dakota but before then, Rooster’s Harley-Davidson is hoping to raise money from bikers to help a local nonprofit. The bike isn’t any regular Harley-Davidson though. The Harley is known as the knucklehead collaborative build and is being raffled off for $50 a ticket. All proceeds from the raffle will benefit Sioux City’s Camp High Hopes. The fully custom bike was designed after a public vote. “We did like a people’s choice. We voted online, voted in store, we had giveaways, so the people kind of helped us put this bike together. We voted on seats, handlebars, taillights, the paint color, pretty much every nut and bolt got touched by everybody but us,” said Riley Jasa, of Rooster’s H-D. The bike was completed earlier this week. Tickets can be purchased at Rooster’s or at Camp High Hopes, as well as their Facebook pages. The winner will be drawn at the annual Miles for Smiles poker run on September 11. Tickets are still available for purchase! Charity motorcycle ride raises more than $95,000

by Vincent Ball from https://www.brantfordexpositor.ca Organizers of the charity motorcycle run for Lansdowne Children’s Centre are sending a virtual “wheelie” to their supporters. “We raised $95,663 and we can’t thank people enough for all of their support,” said Angie Turnbull, director of philanthropy, at the Lansdowne Children’s Centre Foundation, the centre’s fundraising arm. “We had so many people, so many businesses step up this year to help out. “It’s really quite heartwarming.” Organizers of the virtual ride held during July had hoped to raise $70,000, up from the $33,000 generated by last year’s virtual ride. The last time the event was held in-person was in 2019 when $62,000 was raised. This year’s event was boosted by the sale of raffle tickets to win a motorcycle provided by Harley-Davidson Cambridge, Turnbull said. “We were really worried about how we were going to sell raffle tickets but when people heard about our concerns they responded,” shel said. “A lot of businesses called and offered us space to sell the tickets and that was a really big help.” Turnbull said 42 riders participated in the virtual event. Past rides have attracted from 280 to 400 riders. “We’re thrilled with the results but the big winners are the 3,000 children we support.” Lansdowne provides a range of services to children with physical, communication or developmental challenges in Brantford and Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk counties. It receives government funding for programs such as occupational, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy. Money raised by the foundation through events, such as the motorcycle ride, goes to support recreational programs such as cooking, gardening and camping. In addition to building the self-confidence of the children, the programs enable them to safely socialize with other children and provides some respite for parents.

The 26th Annual Harley Party, an Amarillo staple, returned after being canceled last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Event organizers said turnout for the event was good. Live music, food, vendor booths, and a drawing for a chance to win a motorcycle were all on hand for the activities. The best part about the event, it directly benefits Family Support Services here in Amarillo. “Well we’re just excited to be out and providing this event again,” said Jim Womack, CEO of Family Support Services. “It’s not only a fundraiser but it’s a way to thank our supporters and the community. You know, and show them a good time and, you know, great bands and great food and it’s the drinks and it’s just a great time for everybody.”

Motorcycle ride at Pocono Raceway benefits the community

The annual Pocono Raceway Motorcycle Ride took place Saturday in Monroe County. Riders across the commonwealth came to ride on the track as well as indulge in a surf and turf meal. The ride started at Pocono Mountain Harley-Davidson in Tannersville, then went to the track for a few laps and then back to the motorcycle business. “Well for are family, it’s giving back to the community and our employees are involved. It’s just a great thing to do, you know? We see a lot of suffering and we hope that what we do helps the community,” Pocono Mountain Harley-Davidson president Jim Schlier said. Benefits from the event went to Valor, the Pennsylvania State Police’s camp cadet, and the Stroud Area Regional Police Department.

Over 100 motorcycles roll in to benefit Cleveland Clinic pediatrics

Riders arrived at the hospital around 1:30 p.m. The Community West Foundation, Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital and Rock-In-Roll City Harley-Davidson held the event. The mission of Community West Foundation is to advance the health and well-being of the community. The staff and Board of Directors are guided by the words in Matthew 25:35-40: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me… Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Many police departments were there as well to support the event: Beachwood police, Fairview Park police, Cleveland police, Bratenhal police, Cuyahoga County Sheriffs Department, Lorain County Sheriffs Department and Rocky River police. Motorcycle dealers in Canada blame rising insurance for drop in sales

Hertzog is one of many business owners in the motorcycle industry who have voiced concerns about the increasing expenses for bike owners. SGI is considering upping insurance rates again, by 15 per cent for insurance premiums greater than $1,000 and by $25 to $150, for those that total $1,000 or less, leaving businesses with increasingly dire prospects. “They just can’t afford to ride anymore,” Hertzog said. “My younger clients are just not getting into it because when your monthly rate is as much or more than your loan payments, it makes it very, very difficult.” Earlier this week, an SGI spokesperson told the Leader-Post that increasing fees are part of a plan to rebalance insurance rates. This would lead to an annual rate decrease for some types of vehicles and in an increase for vehicles like motorcycles that are perceived to have higher accident risk. A latest proposed rate increase is being reviewed by The Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel. Insurance rates for new models with large engines, like Harley cruisers, can range from $2,000 to $3,000 per year. Red River Harley Davidson hosts 33rd annual Poker Run and Ride

All the proceeds benefit The Friendly Door and its Meals On Wheels program. Dozens participated to support the cause. For company service writer Bobbie Gilmore, the Red River Harley Davidson poker run ride has been something she’s been doing for as long as she can remember. At this year’s 33rd annual ride, she and others said it felt good to be out riding together again. “Everyone that knows Red River knows this is a nostalgic ride for us,” Gilmore said. “Everyone wants to be a part of it and get in on it, and you just tie in just by being here and we’re all a family together riding.” The event started with an 80 mile motorcycle ride, followed by lunch and raffles. The ride has only gotten cancelled three times in the past, one being last year due to the pandemic. “COVID killed it earlier, and they just got cleared,” Gilmore said. “So they got cleared, we’re ready to go, let’s do it.” “It really has a big turnout,” Tom Venhaus, a chairman for The Friendly Door, said. “For them to give up their time on a Sunday to do the ride and then to come here and we do lunch.” This year, the proceeds from the poker run will go to The Friendly Door Senior Center of Iowa Park.
