Weekly News and ROT Rally – join the Cantina

What’s hip and what’s real? We see it constantly around us. It’s one of the things I liked about being a biker. It was just me and my motorcycle. I wore what I wore for me and nobody else. Most of us looked like hell most of the time. Who cared? Life is changing fast and in many respects I don’t like the business formula thrust on us by many companies. I try to keep Bandit’s Cantina and Bikernet simple and to the point, no games. As I often say behind a bottle of whiskey. “Time will tell and shit will smell,” as told to me by a Richmond Hells Angel when I was a prospect. Over 200,000 made the annual pilgrimage to the Austin area to party like it was 1999 and with a good number of them entering the rally. The ROT is a throwback rally where the Harley faithful connect at the Travis County Expo Center for music, stunt shows, vendors and custom bikes. READ THE ROT RALLY REPORT BY CLICKING HERE

Cantina Episode 85: It’s not over

Bandit threw his long leg over his classic slim Le Pera seat and buttoned up his brown leather vest. He liked natural brown leather gauntlet gloves, vests and boots. He shifted his narrow glasses as the officer approached him in the Chowder Barge parking lot. “Thank you,” she said, and for the first time her tone softened. She pushed a big boob against his shoulder and ran her hand up his inner thigh. “I’ll let you know how this investigation unfolds, and anytime you want to see me unfold, let me know.” READ THE NEW ADVENTURE EPISODE by joining the Cantina with an annual subscription.

Hells Angels bikers banned by Netherlands court

A court in the Netherlands has banned the Hells Angels biker club because of its culture of violence. The court in the city of Utrecht ruled that the group was a danger to public order and the rule of law. It referred to several violent clashes over the years with rival motor gangs, like the Bandidos. It is unclear whether the Hells Angels will appeal against the verdict. The group was founded in 1948, and now has thousands of members around the globe. In Wednesday’s ruling, the Utrecht court stated that “the violence is often so serious and causes so much social unrest that it can be considered in contravention of social order”. The court specifically referred to Hells Angels Holland and the global organisation to which it belonged. The verdict makes the Netherlands the first country to outlaw the entire club – and not just some of its local branches, known as chapters. The Hells Angels club was founded in California. Its members around the world are known for favouring Harley-Davidson bikes and wearing denim and leather.

In Memoriam: Gene Romero 1947-2019

“I Dig Carnations!” The motorcycle industry couldn’t be sadder. Another Champion is gone. Gene Romero, husband, father, best friend, legend and Champion. Born, Gene Ronald Romero, May 22, 1947 in Martinez California, Gene called San Louis Obispo home. He cut lawns and cleaned pools to get his first motorcycle. His father, Gene senior, was a tough and proud man who imparted the traits of hard work and honest living to Gene and his two younger brothers, Carlos and Terry. Their mother, Emma was a saint. She had the intolerable job of raising these three, rough and tumble boys, while keeping up with the demands from the patriarch of this respectable Romero family. Her German lineage added a meticulous, sensible and loving aspect to their upbringing. But just don’t get between any of the Romero brothers (or senior) because chances are you may find yourself on the loosing end of the stick. Always the cool one, Gene had those Elvis Presley good looks. He had class, talent, determination and the best sponsors you could find. He was one of America’s greatest motorcycle racers. He changed the course of professional motorcycle racing when he brought non-motorcycle-oriented sponsors into the sport from outside the industry. When local sponsors like, Bill’s muffler shop or Joe’s Garage seemed to be the only available course, Gene pursued and landed national sponsors like Busch Beer, Ocean Pacific, Evel Knievel and factory Yamaha. Romero honed his racing skills on dirt and scrambles tracks in the Central Valley of California. As an amateur, Romero used his scramble skills to become a top TT Steeplechase Rider. Not surprisingly Romero’s first pro finish came at the age of 19 at the Castle Rock TT in July 1966. He adopted the nickname “Burritto” with two Ts instead of the conventional spelling with
