In the midst of the excitement surrounding the Daytona Beach Biketoberfest set up, an associate at J&P Cycles’ Iowa headquarters received a phone call from an editor at the Daytona Beach News Journal. The newspaper wanted to send a straight-laced reporter into the store to be outfitted as a biker and do so the following day. Always up for any challenge, J&P Cycles reached out to staff in Florida who jumped at the opportunity.   The future is now as Daytona International Speedway prepares to host its first emissions-free race Sunday. The Time Trial Extreme Grand Prix, a three-continent series that features electric-powered motorcycles, will stage a five-lap sprint race over Daytona's 3.56-mile road course. “This is something new and special and appropriate it should happen at Daytona,” Speedway president Joie Chitwood III said.   Williams, a trooper for Illinois State District 20, is getting a chance to be West-Central Illinois' version of Ponch or Jon. On Monday, he became the district's first full-time motorcycle patrol officer in 14 years. "You're about invisible out here on a bike," said Williams, who has been with the Illinois State Police for 5 1/2 years. "You can see more violations when you're on the bike. We're looking for texting and cell phone use." Williams said curbing distractive driving is one of the Illinois State Police's highest priorities right now.   Our friends over at Klock Werks are raffling off an awesome 2010 tricked out Victory Kingpin next Friday, Oct. 26. The bike, Tattooed for Life, honors two men close to the Klock Werks family who were tragically killed in different accidents and represents the importance of organ donation. Twenty-nine-year old Vic Briggs, a Klock Werks team member, was lost in automobile accident in late June of 2011. Austin Shimon, 20, a close friend of the Klock Werks family, passed away after a motorcycle accident in 2009. With Jose Padilha‘s remake of RoboCop, not only is the title character getting a new suit, apparently he’s getting a new mode of transportation too.   Bikers decked out in leather vests with patches and insignias denoting their time in the armed forces mounted shining motorcycles and roared away, beginning a quest through the Onslow County’s past. The bikers were at a local motorcycle shop for the Historical Markers Ride, an annual motorcycle scavenger hunt, held by North Carolina Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. The ride brought together the thrill of the hunt with the company of the local community, including many servicemembers and veterans. “We wanted to put together a ride different from other rides,” said H.
