Thousands of Kids, Toys, And Motorcycles In Tijuana

Charinay Bolaños Quintero, 10, has been standing outside for hours. She's one of nearly 8,000 kids here on Avenida Revolución, Tijuana's famous downtown strip. They fill the street, for block after block. Some look excited, and some are clearly nervous. Some have their hands clasped together, eyes closed, as if deep in prayer. The reason they're waiting? "Bicycles, toys, dolls, mmmm," Charinay tells me dreamily, in Spanish. She's excited, and having trouble standing still. "They bring lots of presents." Members of the Unwanted Motorcycle Club reached their ninth year visiting patients on Christmas Eve at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger. No matter the style of bike they ride, motorcyclists stick together. The road is dangerous, especially to them. It’s two wheels against four. The biker community is a large part of the Marine Corps. The love of riding draws motorcyclists together all over the Combat Center and has become a common activity among units to bring together Marines of all ranks. Combat Logistics Battalion 7 had their monthly motorcycle outing Dec. 12 from the Combat Center to Willie Boy’s Saloon in Morongo Valley, Calif. “That's a Fine MotorBike,” an exhibit of fine, vintage, rare and custom motorcycles, opened Dec. 16 at the River Falls Public Library, 140 Union St. and runs through Jan. 27. The show features 26 motorcycles and a variety of art, gear, clothing and toys. Visitors will see such machines as a 1969 Honda police bike, 1966 Triton, 1970 Ducati, custom Harley and 1977 rocket bike.
