Firefighters from the Black Hills, and indeed from across the nation, are mourning the loss of one of their own after David "Dave" Ruhl of Rapid City was killed battling a wildfire in California last Thursday. Ruhl, 38, was a firefighter with the Black Hill National Forest who died while scouting a fire site late Thursday. Ruhl leaves behind a wife and two children in Rapid City, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Click here if you wish to donate.

Matthew Palmer is the winner of this year's Garage-Girls Ultimate Biker Makeover winner. Matthew was selected among over 130 entries to this years contest from the story and photo he submitted. Contestants (Girls and Guys) were asked to submit a 600 words or less essay – describing why they are most in need of a biker makeover as well as a photo. Deadline for entries was July 8th 2015. Submissions were narrowed down to the final four by selected judges from Garage-Girls. From there, the judges had to make the tough decision of who they felt most deserved the Ultimate Biker Makeover. It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of French cartoonist Coyote. An avid biker and a beautiful human being, Coyote reportedly died on Sunday of a heart attack at age 53. Coyote rose to fame in the 90's as an illustrator for French motorcycle magazine Freeway. He was famous for inserting outrageous characters over the featured bikes on the magazine's cover. Coyote's work went further as he published the adventures of Mammouth & Piston, a cantankerous old-school biker and his pet rat. Later on, he penned a series of book called Litteul Kévin (Little Kevin as pronounced in French). Coyote dreamed of having his work published in Easyriders Magazine. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the remaining assets of Erik Buell Racing were sold for $2.25 million to Atlantic Metals Group LLC. The buyer has agreed to acquire all the factory machinery, tooling, motorcycle inventory, parts inventory, accounts receivable and intangible assets. In a previously announced deal, Hero MotoCorp, which owned 49% of Erik Buell Racing, acquired Buell's consulting business assets for $2.8 million. Where does EBR go from there? We'll just have to sit and wait to see if Erik 'The Come Back Kid' Buell will still be a part of this wild adventure. We certainly hope so...

Can-Am invited Bikernet to the unveiling of their 2016 Spyder F3-S at the 2015 Sturgis Rally. Getting the call to be the first to see this new trike intrigued me as one of my rides is a 2012 Spyder RT. I was wanting to see the improvements they were bringing out. A MILLION BIKERS at 75th Sturgis rally? Probably not, but likely record crowds-- Law enforcement and transportation officials won’t hesitate in predicting that attendance at the 75th Sturgis motorcycle rally will almost certainly blow away all previous rally records. But thus far, they are stopping short of using the “M-word," as in "million," to count the number of bikers and other visitors that have jammed this normally sedate town of 6,700 and who have clogged roads and highways across much of western South Dakota during the opening days of this milestone rally’s historic week-long run.
