Downtown Houston 1968 was models, motorcycles and Matt Helm

Apparently there was a time in Houston’s past when you could see two bikini-clad girls riding through the streets of downtown to promote a movie … in January or thereabouts.

In this 1968 photo, accompanied by a brief Houston Chronicle write-up headlined “How to clear traffic — and stop it,” Sharon Horne and Judy Bracey are leading an escort to the Metropolitan Theatre to help promote the Dean Martin film “The Ambushers.” In the car behind them is fashion designer Joan King, representing Oleg Cassini, who designed the film’s wardrobe, sets, hairstyles and makeup.
