Historic Hot Rods, Dragsters, and Corvettes Galore for Inaugural Anaheim Auction, Nov. 15-17   High performance collector car auctioneers Mecum Auctions is set to host their inaugural Anaheim event with an offering of more than 750 vehicles and will host a live SoCal broadcast debut of Mecum Auto Auction: Muscle Cars & More Nov. 15-17, 2012 at the Anaheim Convention Center. The Mecum Anaheim Auction and its host venue is a match made in hot rod heaven.  With 815,000 square feet of exhibit space, the Anaheim Convention Center is the largest indoor exhibition facility on the west coast and will provide an enjoyable environment for buyers, sellers and spectators throughout this 3-day auction that is certain to become the SoCal auction event of the year. Hot Rod Magazine, the National Hot Rod Association, and the Southern California Timing Association: all are products of the car culture born in booming postwar Southern Calif. The Golden State is also the birthplace of several history-making rods being offered through the course of this three-day happening, including Lot S109, the 1932 McMullen Roadster known as “The World's Most Iconic Hot Rod,” made famous by the April 1963 cover of Hot Rod magazine and S116, the famed 1936 Ford Calori Coupe that took 1st in Class at Pebble Beach in 2007. The Rodder’s art has historically found its fullest expression in the heat of competition, producing over half a century of pioneering drag and road racing machines. The inaugural Mecum Anaheim Auction reflects that history with a number of noteworthy racing machines including two very special offerings from the private collection of Don “The Snake” Prudhomme: Lot S170, the first funny car to reach 315 MPH and Lot S171, the “Gold Snake” Camaro funny car painted to celebrate The Snake’s seven U.S. Nationals titles. An All-Wheel-Drive Motorcycle?

Steve Christini's first all-wheel-drive bike—his senior mechanical engineering project from Villanova—hangs near the main entrance ofChristini's shop in downtown Philadelphia. That first bike used a series of chains, shafts, and pinions to transfer power to a suspended, steerable front wheel. His latest two-wheelers—a line of all-wheel-drive off-road racing motorcycles—get power to their front wheels in much the same way. But rather than being prototypes hanging on the wall, they are competing on the world stage at venues like the X Games' Enduro X and Erzbergrodeo enduro.  Read more

Powered by nothing by a scuba tank full of compressed air, this motorcycle achieve speeds usually reserved for combustion engines without the emissions. While electric motorcycles may be all the rage, they’re not necessarily the most cutting edge alternative fuel bikes out there. Electric vehicles still require expensive, energy-intensive batteries and electricity that’s usually generated by fossil fuels. Advocates say compressed air engines could be a truly emissions-free option, with much cheaper fuel, but there are still some major hurdles to overcome. Read more
