Motorcycle Mission Goes Global

Two years ago, a Mitchell woman wanted to do something to give back to her community. So she started a program that would help at risk girls at the Abbott House. Little did she know at the time, her idea would wind up helping hundreds of girls around the world, one wrench at a time. The girls at the Abbott House have restored and customized two Harley Davidson motorcycles over the past couple of years.  The most recent one will be raffled off next week to help raise money for the Abbott House. The restoration project is through a program called Helping with Horsepower, an idea that was kick started by Laura Klock of Klock Werks. Continue reading Advertisement

FIM And TTXGP Teaming Up To Promote New Electric Motorcycle Road Racing Series

The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with TTXGP to promote a new series of electric powered motorcycle road racing events. This agreement lays the groundwork for growth and a higher profile for the sport. The new series will initially be run as a World Cup and as a support class to other FIM Championships events. For the inaugural season in 2013, it will consist of four events in both Europe and the USA, and a Final in Asia. And for 2014, it will revert to a championship calendar with a minimum of six events over three continents. The next milestone of this new concept comes in 2015, when this FIM Championship becomes a headline event in its own right with a global calendar. Since first FIM World records in 1994 and the first Road racing event held in 2009 by TTXGP, electric powered motorcycles have shown huge improvements in both range and power. The new e-Road Racing series will provide an intercontinental platform for the development of electric powered two-wheelers and showcase their great potential as clean sports and road vehicles. FIM President Vito Ippolito said of the groundbreaking new series: “Through this agreement, we are taking another important step towards the growth and promotion of clean electric road racing. The FIM is committed to furthering sports events for electric motorcycles which will certainly be a major component of the motor sport of the future”. TTXGP founder Azhar Hussain considers the agreement a milestone in the development of electric motor sport: “This partnership with the FIM clears the way for a single destination for all the world’s innovators to drive the next generation of technologies for competitive motor sport beyond the grid. We look forward to working with the FIM

Industry Pulse: Arlen Ness Enterprises sign up for Big Bike Europe

Arlen Ness Enterprises are among the latest in a slew of market leaders to sign on to exhibit at the upcoming BIG BIKE EUROPE expo. BIG BIKE EUROPE is the all-new custom and performance industry expo concept for catering exclusively to the international parts, accessories, custom, performance, service, workshop and tuning vendor community. A 'non-selling ProGrade' expo, BIG BIKE EUROPE is also the new, permanent host event for the acclaimed AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building (2013 will see the World Championship mark its 10th anniversary and first ever appearance in Europe). BIG BIKE EUROPE is a three day expo offering exhibitors an innovative and unique new Invitational/Open-admittance attendance strategy. The first day (Friday May 10th, 2013) is an "Invitation Only" day set aside for motorcycle dealers, custom shops, custom motorcycle builders and customizers who receive invitations from AMD magazine and the expo exhibitors themselves. In turn invited dealers are able to register and invite up to 25 of their best customers and high mileage large displacement motorcycle riders, as their own 'VIP Riders' for complimentary three-day all-area expo access as their own guests, compliments of BBE's exhibitors. The weekend (Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th) is open to general public, rider and enthusiast attendance with tickets available from as little as €10 a day (approx $15.00). It is estimated that some two-thirds of the value of the European motorcycle market resides with the one-third of European riders who own 'Big Bikes' (source: ACEM). In addition to a local population of some 18 million "high percentage motorcycle ownership" consumers (within a 100km radius of Essen, Germany where BIG BIKE EUROPE is being staged), research suggests that some 60 plus percent of Europe's franchised motorcycle dealers and custom shops are within a three, four or five hour ride of Essen. Bonneville Land Speed Racing Vincent Streamliner and Marvel of Engineering debuts at SPRINGSHOW 2013

Direct from the Salt Flats at Bonneville, Altometheus 2, the amazing 3-wheeled salt racing motorcycle, will be a feature of the ‘Bikes of the Century’ red carpet display in Hall 3 at the International Centre on the weekend of March 16 & 17. Altometheus 2 is 20 feet long and was built to race the salt flats by engineering genius John Renwick of Great Britain.  John also built Altometheus 1 which is now in the hands of a private collector in Italy.  Altometheus 2 is a recent acquisition of motorcycle collector and SPRINGSHOW Founder, Bar Hodgson. The rig’s Vincent engine is 1650cc, with a combined horsepower of 120 on methanol fuel and an additional 60hp when the nitrous oxide is triggered, for a total of 180hp.  The streamliner posted 205 MPH at Bonneville in 2012, without utilizing the nitrous system, before the front tire (from a Harrier jump jet) blew and the parachute was deployed.  Followers of Bar Hodgson’s exploits may recall that in 2007 he raced the Arrow Streamliner at Bonneville and crashed at almost 200 MPH sustaining moderate injuries and was able to walk away. The SPRINGSHOW highlights the Canadian debut for Altometheus 2.  It is a great opportunity to see this genuine marvel of engineering and design.  The bodywork will be removed to display its mighty Vincent engine, nitrous system, 16inch diameter cockpit, and other internal workings. For further information on the Motorcycle SPRINGSHOW, sponsored by Dalton Timmis Insurance, visit  www.motorcyclespringshow.com

A Bike Week call for motorcycle awareness

A tractor-trailer cut sharply in front of Nikki Cope's pink-trimmed Yamaha. The 23-year-old motorcyclist swerved and survived. But not everybody is as agile — or as lucky — on two wheels. "I think we've all had some really serious close calls," said Cope, shaking her head as she recounted her most recent narrow escape during a motorcycle-awareness rally Sunday in east Orange County. "Motorcycles can be hard to see. They're small. But people are always in such a big hurry on the road. They don't take the time to look." With the approach of Bike Week, Cope and three dozen fellow bikers waved signs and stood together in the cold at Colonial Drive and Rouse Road, urging people to be watchful for motorcycles and to look twice before changing lanes or turning right at a red light. Bike Week, the 10-day, rumbling homage to Harleys that is reputed to be the world's largest motorcycle event, begins Friday in Daytona Beach, filling Central Florida's roadways with hundreds of thousands of visiting bikers. Cope has a special reason to ask people to look cautiously when driving. Continue reading
