Raising $1 Million For Women Affected By Breast Cancer

The Harley-Davidson family of riders and fans has a promise for women affected by breast cancer: You’re not alone, because we ride with you. These riders and fans added extra horsepower to that promise by raising more than $1 million for organizations that support and empower women affected by breast cancer through the purchase of Harley-Davidson® Genuine MotorClothes® Pink Label Collection apparel and merchandise. “The brave and courageous women who have shared with us stories of battling breast cancer are the inspiration for the Pink Label Collection,” said Karen Davidson, Creative Director of General Merchandise and granddaughter of a Harley-Davidson Motor Company founder. “The custom Pink Label gear is a powerful way for riders and enthusiasts to express their support for the one in eight women in the United States who are diagnosed with this disease.” The financial support begins with the purchase of any H-D Pink Label item. Three percent of the suggested retail price of Pink Label merchandise is donated to organizations like the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Young Survival Coalition that support women affected by breast cancer. Thanks to the generosity of Harley-Davidson motorcycle riders, fans and dealers, the Pink Label Collection generated more than $1 million for such organizations since its inception in 2010. And that’s just the beginning. For 2014, the new and expanded H-D Pink Label Collection includes 88 iconic items, each with the power to make a difference. Visit h-d.com/pinklabel to learn more.

Kickin’ It on Route 66

Our friend Jeff Najar had the opportunity to do some riding the 66 in New Mexico while he was setting things up for the 2014 IronWorks Magazine Chile Pepper Rally. While out on the road he turned in this report that we’d like to share with you: “I got on the horn with Marilyn Stemp, Editor of IronWorks Magazine, and explained that I couldn’t make Indian Larry’s Block Party in Brooklyn, New York, because I was heading West to New Mexico to get the gears turning on the 2014 IronWorks Magazine Chile Pepper Rally to be held in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Marilyn, being the multi-tasker that she is, put the arm on me to cover the Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally in Ruidoso, New Mexico, too. So I added that to the list of duties. I also told Edge, Promoter of the Chile Pepper, that I was heading to the Land of Enchantment, and he decided to hop a flight and meet me out there to assist in the ground campaign. I landed at Albuquerque International Sunport at noon on Tuesday and hustled up to Santa Fe Harley-Davidson. I met with Tina Reeves, the shop’s Marketing Manager and a Marine, and received the update on the Harley community in the state. In quick secession, I met with Albuquerque Harley-Davidson and then met up with Edge, loaded his gear and set off for Santa Rosa. Read more Advertisement

Big Bear Choppers Titanium FXR

Ridden by Ray C. Wheeler in San Bernardino By K. Ball with photos by Garz Marz and the BBC team On a beautiful Southern California day, three Bikernet staffers darted across town to San Bernardino to the Big Bear Choppers headquarters at the base of the mountain, which was the previous home of Big Bear Choppers, Big Bear. Ray Wheeler, the Bikernet Performance Editor, took Kevin’s personal Titanium out for a ride. Ray has two world land speed records under his belt, and is currently working on a state of the art Hayabusa speed demon to hopefully place him securely in the Bub 200 mph club. Here’s his report, “After an around the block or two meet-the-Titanium session, I threw a leg over and felt right at home. The mirrors were set for a taller rider and needed a minor adjustment for a slight view of my Arai helmet from each side, perfect. The foot pegs are mid-mounted for a balanced, predictable ride. Doug Coffey's RetroMod Panhead Part 2

I’m using a Baker DD6 transmission and they mount on a 5 speed transmission plate as used in Evolution Softail frames. I don’t care for the flimsy stamped sheet metal trans mounting plates available commercially so I opted to make my own. Back in the day we used to have V shaped rear foot peg mounting brackets I always thought looked pretty cool and they helped fill in an empty spot in the frame for a ‘tighter’ look I prefer. Welcome To The Borderlands – Chapter 7

Styx and Slippery Stones by Derrel Whitemyer Name’s Christopher Jax but people call me Jax. It’s been a week since I escaped from Ma n’ Pa’s Borderland by fleeing across a small bridge behind the Styx Diner. I’ve returned on occasion on my Suzuki S83 aka 1400 Intruder but never to cross back over and only to stay long enough parked under some nearby trees to have a bag lunch. It’s hard to believe the stream flowing beneath the bridge once separated the Borderlands from our world and was once part of the river Styx. Today finding a Mark Twain character skinny dipping in one of its pools would be more likely than finding the Borderlands on the other side. Speaking of which, tomorrow I’m riding back and going for a swim. Beyond the bridge is an iron gate; beyond the gate a narrow road. Debris on the road’s surface and the condition of the gate show neither has been used in years. There’s no sign the Styx Diner was ever there; only the ruins of an old adobe mark where it once stood. Tastes Good…..No….Less Filling

Do you try’n ‘Harleyize’ your metric OR ??? Text and Photos by Derrel Whitemyer Sooo you’ve been searching the internet for dealerships that have new bike sales and you stumble across a husband and wife selling ‘both’ their bikes for two thirds of what you’d pay for a new one. One’s a 2009 Yamaha Road Warrior; the other is a 2009 Yamaha Raider. Both have less than 8500 miles on them. They’re the original owners and the bikes have two years left on their extended factory warranties…soooo you trailer them home. Now you’re faced with the question many metric riders face: Do you try’n ‘Harleyize’ your metric OR do you own ‘ALL’ of what you’ve bought. I VOTE you own what you bought for the simple reason; if you wanted a Harley you should’ve bought a Harley. CLICK TO READ ARTICLE

New Indian Motorcycle Dealership To Open In Erie County

From www.goerie.com Joe Askins, vice president of Off Road Express and Auto Express at 10320 Wattsburg Road, Greene Township, said he’s been in talks for more than a year about becoming an Indian dealer. His dealership, which opens within the next few weeks, is one of the first in the region, opening before Indian dealerships that might come to Pittsburgh, Buffalo or Cleveland. Askins, who will host “Demo Days” on Oct. 8 and 9, said the company will bring 16 new Indian motorcycles to town, which will be available for test drives for anyone with a motorcycle license. Although he doesn’t have any motorcycles in stock, Askins said he’s already sold more than 20 and has a list of about 70 more people who are waiting to try one. “It’s exciting,” Askins said. “It’s America’s oldest motorcycle brand. It was formed in 1901, and it was a group of Indian riders who started the Sturgis (motorcycle rally) in the 1930s. It’s got a lot of heritage behind it.” Read more Advertisement
