The Search For Nirvana Thursday News For May 15th, 2014

Nirvana? That’s the place where the powers that be and their friends hang out! Hey, This is a crazy one and I got a late start. I needed to speak in front of the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Commissioners this morning. We were forced to push our non-existent waterfront effort forward for the people of Wilmington. It’s amazing, and folks don’t realize the high level of impact they can have on their community, just by speaking up, writing a letter, and being there. That’s why our motorcycle rights groups are so important to our survival. Evil folks don’t govern in a void. They reach out for input, but if we don’t step up, the folks who gain financially will, and we lose freedoms in the process. We just got a new set of Commissioners, so the money factions jumped. “If we build new rails and automatic container removal systems, we will save bundles.” What they didn’t mention was the thousands of lost jobs, and the lost waterfront effort for the community. Amazing. We needed to point out the other side of the coin. Let’s hit the NEWS! CLICK to read!

I Guess I Left a Mark In the Motorcycle Industry – by Howard Kelly

The Horse Magazine STILL Writes about me. By Howard Kelly Yesterday I was on the phone with a younger guy in the editorial world, explaining some things about us older mag guys and he told me that in the recent issue of THE HORSE, Hammer—Ralph Janus, the OWNER of the magazine, the guy who makes all the coin it generates—was ragging on me and praising Jeff Holt the current editor of HOT BIKE. He wrote the same stuff he has been writing about me for OVER 10 years, corporate, boring, blah blah blah. Now in the last 10 years since leaving HOT BIKE all I have done is write two books and maybe a dozen magazine articles. I should not be a factor in the magazine industry at this point, but he goes on and on, about me and the way I did HOT BIKE….. CLICK to read all!

LAPD To Target Motorcyclists

The Los Angeles Police Department and the California Highway Patrol have launched a motorcycle enforcement and education campaign in May as part of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. The LAPD will be conducting specialized Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operations citywide on May 24 and 31 in an effort to lower deaths and injuries. Extra officers will be on duty patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists, and where motorcycle traffic collisions have occurred. Officers will be looking for violations made by drivers and riders that can lead to motorcycle collisions, and will be specifically cracking down on drivers and riders who are speeding, making illegal turns or are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Motorcycle fatalities experienced a drop of 37 percent from 2008 to 2010, but then rose 23 percent by 2012. California collision data indicates that primary causes of motorcycle-involved crashes include speeding, unsafe turning and impairment due to alcohol and drug use. The LAPD is also reminding all motorists to always be alert and watch for motorcycles, especially when turning and changing lanes. Drivers should be aware that motorcycle lane splitting is not illegal if done in a safe and prudent manner. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
