The Bikernet Blur Feature

At a Paris, France bicycle racing stadium (Le Velodrome du Bois de Vincenes), the Hendee Indian recreates past Board Track glories. In addition, back in the day, motorcycles were once used to “draft” racing bicycles. You can spot a vintage Indian board tracker racer a mile away thanks to its drooping handlebars as well as spindly “hardtail” bicycle type frame and narrow 2 ¼ inch tires. With clutchless ferocious motors and minus brakes, you counted on your feet when trying to come to a stop after 100+ mph. A splinter lifted up from the well-hammered timber boards could wreak havoc with bike and rider not to mention spectators. There were two controls, a spark advance and a kill switch both used to control speed while leaving the throttle wide open. Of the “splinter” machines that carved their way across high-banked (65 degrees), oval wooden race tracks in the U.S. circa 1913-1930, they stand out as perhaps the most beautiful motorcycles ever made. – Read the rest in here.

Cool New Stuff — Slam Your Softail The Right Way

Most agree that a lowered “Slammed down” Softail looks best, but is it worth sacrificing the ride quality? Thanks to Ken Rutherford and his all new Slamtail, Softail owners no longer have to choose between the look and function. Designed to reuse the OEM spring and shock units and maintain the stock ride quality, the Slamtail uses hydraulically-powered rams to raise and lower the bike’s rear suspension. A simple remote key fob moves the bike from the stock ride height to slammed down in a matter of seconds and actually standing by the bike and watching it go through the travel looks impressive to say the least. The system is neatly packaged under the bike and is protected from the elements and road grim by a zinc-plated powdercoated steel plate. Every part of this lowering kit is made from high-quality, aerospace-spec steel and aluminum alloys. There’s no need to remove the rear wheel and gas tank for installation and the system is virtually invisible when installed. The Slamtail will fit all Twin-Cam Powered Softails. Go to www.slamtail.com for more information and a cool animation or email ken@slamtail.com

The Notorious Elbow Inn, Along the Devil’s Curve on Route 66

Everyone should travel Route 66 or at least visit some of the landmarks along the notorious highway. I am hitting sections of the famous road as I travel the US. While at the Mid American Freedom Rally in Buckhorn MO, it was recommended that I scoot on up the road to Devil’s Elbow and have a drink. Well, Sunday afternoon was open, so I fired up the Road King and slipped out of the campground. A few short miles later I was sitting down at the bar of the Devil’s Elbow Bar and Grill, in the middle of Pulaski County nestled on the slippery banks of the Big Piney River. The bar had a great view of the river and restored bridge. This place started out as a coffee shop and ended up as a sweet little rustic bar, serving up some great Missouri BBQ. Continue reading.

Andrew Hines Wins At Maple Grove Raceway, secures 89-Point Lead in Race for NHRA Season Championship

Andrew Hines battled to his second Pro Stock Motorcycle final-round victory in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs at the NHRA Keystone Nationals. On his V-Rod, Hines has two wins in four Countdown events and now has a commanding 89-point lead on the Pro Stock Motorcycle field with three races left. “Our V-Rod bikes are fast off the truck,” said Hines, the four-time and defending Pro Stock Motorcycle champion. “We had a good setup right away on Saturday and just made some fine adjustments for the cold track on Sunday. My V-Rod even saved its quickest run of the weekend for the final and we leave here with another win.” Hines has three wins for the entire 2015 season and 41 career wins in the Pro Stock Motorcycle category. After four of six Countdown rounds, Hines leads the Pro Stock Motorcycle category with 2,378 points. Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Ed Krawiec is in second place with 2,289 points. Krawiec led all qualifiers for the event as his V-Rod blasted down the track in 6.802 seconds in the sole round of rain-shortened qualifying on Saturday. Hines qualified second at 6.816 seconds. Krawiec advanced to the semi-finals in Sunday eliminations and moved up from third place in the Countdown points standings. “With limited qualifying races all the teams faced a challenge in finding a good tune-up for race day,” said Krawiec. “In that regard, the deep experience of this Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle team really paid off this weekend.” The fourth round of the NHRA Countdown to the Championship takes place Oct. 15-18 at the 30th annual AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis.
