BIKERNET SEAT TECH: With El Waggs and Saddlemen, Part 1

Is that a tight fit or what.I’ve known Jim Waggaman of Air Stream Studios for maybe 30 years. He helped me with my ’92 Dyna custom with Mike Maldonado, and I rode it to Sturgis in ’94. Hell, I rode it 400 miles in the rain with Dr. Hamster to the Billet Bar in Phoenix, from Los Angeles, for a drink. By the time we arrived we needed two and a hot shower.Jim helped us with a last minute fairing in 2007 for the World’s Fastest Panhead, which set a record in Bonneville with a top speed of 162 mph. The fairing was built around an Arlen Ness custom fairing with a beanie helmet stuffed into the headlight hole for high tech aerodynamics. When he sent me the initial shots of taping the seat and asked about a seat tech, I was all over it. Fiberglass and composite material pans are a pain in the ass to build, but nothing fits like a fiberglass seat pan. Nothing contours your bike as tight and right as a fiberglass handled properly. It basically uses you’re your bike pieces as the mold. In most cases you don’t need any fasteners to hold your seat in place. It’s fits like a glove. Let’s get started with Jim’s notes: Initial taping is designed to create the ‘mold’ of the actual final shape and fit of the seat and create any barrier between the glass and the bike components. Veterans Charity Ride To Sturgis Promises To Be Epic

The second annual Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis (VCR) will be hosted in summer 2016 and a new nomination program, “Hero’s Ride of a Lifetime,” has been added. Starting in Los Angeles, California on July 30, the nine-day ride to Sturgis, SD will provide twenty veterans a chance to use motorcycle therapy as a way to decompress from the challenges of post-war life. Founded in 2015 by veteran Army Paratrooper Dave Frey and Emmy-award winning director Robert Manciero, VCR uses motorcycle therapy to provide a healing and fun experience for a select group of veterans who need support. “Giving veterans an outlet for their stress, and creating a way for them to find emotional balance, is critical,” said ride founder Dave Frey. “As a veteran myself, I’ve used long motorcycle rides for years as a mechanism to decompress. It occurred to me that others would benefit from the power of motorcycle therapy. VCR provides a group of veterans with the benefits of riding, plus a camaraderie and brotherhood that veterans often have difficulty finding on their own.” The challenges for veterans are well documented. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and difficulties with re-assimilation to civilian life are common. Iraq and Afghanistan veterans – many who are still young individuals – are facing a major crisis, with an estimated 20 percent of those veterans having PTSD and/or depression according to a 2014 survey*. Motorcycle therapy is one of several effective therapies for veterans seeking relaxation, peace of mind and enjoyment. VCR 2016 will give 15 ambulatory and five amputee/disabled veterans of various military branches – the majority of whom are post-9/11 vets – the opportunity to work toward overcoming their post-war challenges on the open road. Riding from Los Angeles to Sturgis, the veterans travel through the most scenic back roads of the

Following Arrest For Battery On A Police Officer, Danny Eslick Will Not Take Part In The Daytona 200 Race

The American Motorcyclist Association and the American Sportbike Racing Association, in consultation with Daytona International Speedway, have suspended professional motorcycle racer Daniel C. Eslick of Broken Arrow, Okla., from the Daytona 200 for actions deemed to be detrimental to the sport. According to the Volusia County (Florida) Clerk of Circuit Court, Eslick is charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, a felony of the third degree, as a result of events that took place about 11:59 p.m., March 7, in Daytona Beach, Fla. Participating in professional motorcycle competition is a privilege, not a right, and there is zero tolerance for behavior that is detrimental to the promotion of motorcycling in all its forms. The AMA has extended Eslick’s suspension to all AMA-sanctioned activity. The suspension will be in effect until this case is resolved, at which time the AMA may lift the suspension or take further action.

HOT ACTION BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for March 10th, 2016

Hey, This news is action-packed and the Bikernet Headquarters are action central. We are still grappling with the city, filling out another form for consideration by the high command. An attorney told me today, “It’s common for them to target an area of interest and start with real or imagined code violations. It’s likely the city’s goal is to get you to sell your property.” We are also scrambling to ship our Salt Torpedo to the Paughco Headquarters in Carson City, Nevada. “Elvis just left the building,” Kent Weeks of Lucky Devil Metal Works reports as the truck departed his Magnolia, Texas location. A friend recommended having the parts shipped here, and then I will pack them in the Bikernet van and peel north to Paughco. They should arrive by Saturday. I’m in the process of wrapping up the second Chance Hogan book, and we’re damn close. And we are completely revamping the Bikernet web experience. Do you think we have enough going on? The Bikernet Weekly News is sponsored in part by Cycle Source, Iron Trader, and Choppertown. Thanks guys… –Click here to read all of the Sizzling Action from Bike Week, Asia, Kentucky, JIMS, RideWright, Low Brow, MetalSport, Lucas, the AMA and more.

The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall Of Fame Announces Class Of 2016

From pioneers and innovators to customizers and dealers, the 2016 inductees into the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame represent every aspect of what makes motorcycling great. The Museum was chartered back in 2001 to recognize individuals or groups who have made a long term positive impact on the motorcycle community. Arguably the most diverse -and deserving – group ever inducted into the Hall of Fame, the Class of 2016 will be honored during the annual Rally on August 10, 2016. “The Hall of Fame’s mission is to honor those who have made a positive and significant impact on the sport and lifestyle,” explains Tigra Tsujikawa, Marketing & Development Director for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame. “It honors the men and women who have dedicated much of their lives to improving, promoting and advancing motorcycling.” While the Museum certainly pay tribute to the heritage of the Rally, the Hall of Fame transcends the Black Hills of South Dakota, she adds. “Having a living off-road legend like John Penton, demonstrates that the Hall of Fame recognizes all aspects of our great sport,” says Tsujikawa. “Many consider John to be the godfather of the dirt bike industry and his pioneering of small, lightweight 2-strokes changed the world of off-road motorcycles.” Not to mention shaping and defining KTM to this very day. In addition to Penton, four other equally deserving inductees have been named to the Class of 2016. The Class Of 2016 Bert Baker – V-Twin motorcycle drivetrain innovator, businessman and patriot, Bert Baker is committed to using materials, labor, creativity, know how and grit born of America. Jerry Covington – Whether it is on TV or the cover of virtually every biker magazine in the world, it is hard to miss custom builder Jerry Covington. What does get overlooked is
