California: Anti-Gun Bills To Be Voted on Tomorrow!

From NRA-ILA The legislature will convene tomorrow for the last time before summer recess. It’s anticipated that a number of gun bills will be considered in both chambers. This could be the last opportunity to voice your opposition before the bills are sent to Governor Brown’s desk for his consideration. The eligible bills range in topic but hold a central theme, limiting and restricting the rights of law abiding citizens. Click here and here for additional information on the eligible bills. It is CRITICAL that you contact state Senators using the take action button below urging them to OPPOSE AB 450, AB 1664, AB 1673, AB 1674, AB 1695, and AB 2607. Yesterday, June 28, the Senate Public Safety Committee passed Assembly Bill 450 on a party line vote. AB 450, sponsored by “F” rated Assembly Member McCarty, is a “gut and amend” that covered a completely different subject matter until last week. Now, AB 450 is aimed at arguably the most law-abiding citizens, CCW permit holders. The bill seeks to increase fees to not only cover issuance but also enforcement. Exactly what “enforcement” is to cover remains unclear, however what was abundantly clear is McCarty’s disdain for concealed carry permit holders and his desire to put a price tag on permits beyond the reach of average citizens. It is important that you forward this alert to your family, friends, and fellow guns owners and sportsmen and urge them to contact state Senators and Assembly Members.

Further Adventures of the Borderland Biker -Chapter 23

We rode the rest of the night putting mile after mile between us and the town of Oakley. The longer I was on the Raider the more I remembered its particulars; in particular the particulars surrounding its six foot wheelbase and extended rake. When I say extended rake I mean extended relative to the rake of the Suzuki M109 and Larry’s Victory Vegas 8-Ball. Larry’s 8-Ball with its lighter weight and shorter wheelbase was definitely more at home through tight corners while the Raider had the edge in comfort and with those big high speed sweepers. And the M109…well the M109, like the Yamaha Road Warrior with its R1 front end, was one of the elite that would always command a place for all round handling and brute power. To compare them was expected; however to expect one bike to be like the other would be like expecting different restaurants to have the same menu. It was sunrise when we stopped, “Do you think that lawman a.k.a. the shape shifter will be there if we returned during the daytime?” Larry walked to the side of the road, “Hard to say. My guess is, if its umbilical cord holds together, it’s retreated into some sort of lair to heal…some sort of dark place.” “You mean like below that saloon…maybe down in the basement? Its umbilical cord led back into the saloon.” “I mean like,” laughed Larry, “I’m not going out of my way to find out; I mean like unless we have no other choice we’re not riding back through that place.” Continue reading.

Bikernet Road Stories: Oaxaca Part 2

… Although back roads are my preferred place of travel, Oaxaca is a very long way from Florida and secondary Mexican roads tend to be beat up, full of speed bumps, sometimes turn into little chicken trails, and generally require a lot of time to go a short distance. The interstates (I use that term loosely here) are almost all toll roads and in the interest of making better time on this dramatically long journey I’d decided to ride them for a while. This brought up the question: should I pass through the bandito toll booth, or take the road around it? I’d come upon these overtaken Mexican toll booths before and always noted how much cheaper they are than when the authorities run them. What the hell, I’d brave the outlaws… Click here to read the whole story.

Sturgis Buffalo Chip Surprises Spearfish Student with Scholarship

Spearfish High School student Logan Lucas was caught off guard Monday while visiting the Sturgis Buffalo Chip’s office on an errand for his summer job. Buffalo Chip President Rod Woodruff surprised Lucas by announcing that he had been selected to receive a $1,599.89 scholarship courtesy of the Flying Piston Breakfast, a charity event held at the Chip last August. Educational grants awarded to Northern Black Hills students resulting from the Buffalo Chip’s two-year scholarship program now total nearly $19,000. Lucas is junior at Spearfish High School and an alumnus of the Buffalo Chip Challenge, a program created to inspire Black Hills students to discover a career in the expanding world of motorcycle engineering and manufacturing. He was the fourth local student enrolled in the 2016 program to receive a significant award. “I was really surprised by the scholarship!” Lucas said. “I joined the Challenge program because I wanted to learn more about motorcycles, and I did. I plan to enroll in the program again this year. It was a lot of fun.” Lucas was visiting the Buffalo Chip with his boss, Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Director Myrick Robbins. Woodruff had planned to call him later in the day to announce the award, but when Lucas entered the office it seemed appropriate to surprise him in person. “Thanks to the organizers of the Flying Piston Breakfast we were able to give a fourth scholarship this year,” said Woodruff. “It’s very satisfying to be able to help these students continue their education and positively influence the economics of the region. As a direct consequence of the Challenge program many students plan to get their education and open industry-related businesses in the Black Hills.” The Buffalo Chip Challenge is the result of a collaboration of motorcycle industry leaders, local businessmen and the Sturgis Buffalo
