Clean Sweep In Denver Drags for Andrew Hines and His V-Rod

Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines motorcycle rider Andrew Hines overwhelmed the Pro Stock Motorcycle field with a record-setting performance at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals. Hines rode his V-Rod drag bike to lead qualifying, re-set the track Elapsed Time record three times over the weekend, and on Sunday won an all-Harley dragster final against teammate Ed Krawiec. With the 45th victory of his career, Hines set a new record for wins in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class, surpassing the record of 44 set by the late champion Dave Schultz. “I grew up around this sport, but never dreamed that one day I’d set a record like this,” said Hines, who is a five-time Pro Stock Motorcycle champion on Harley-Davidson V-Rod motorcycles. “The record will likely stand for a long time, and represents a lot of hard work by the Screamin’ Eagle team over the years. Dave Schultz was one of the founders of this class and raced with passion and drive, and we lost him when he was still winning races. He would have undoubtedly added to his total. I’m really honored to be in this spot today.” Dave Schultz, a six-time Pro Stock Motorcycle champion, died of cancer in 2001. With three victories each, Hines and Krawiec have raced the Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines V-Rod motorcycles to wins in six of seven Pro Stock Motorcycle finals in the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Hines set his first track record of the weekend in the second round of qualifying on Friday with a 7.161-second blast that stood up through Saturday to make him the top seed for Sunday eliminations. Krawiec qualified second at 7.177 seconds. On Sunday, Hines re-set the elapsed time record with 7.151-second pass in the third round, and then went even quicker in the […]

Feds After Club Colors In Court Case

Federal prosecutors are revving up efforts to seize the trademarks of motorcycle clubs in California and possibly the Midwest in a renewed effort to target the groups’ colorful “patches” that members wear on their jackets and vests. A First Amendment obstacle course still could lie ahead, experts warn, as officials go after organizations with names like the “Mongols” and the misspelled “Devils Diciples.” But in new legal filings, prosecutors are keeping alive tactics begun during the presidency of George W. Bush to cripple the groups by seizing their assets. Read more here.

ATOMIC BOB’S Prison Art

Sitting alone at my steaming computer at midnight slamming keys like the Hell on Wheels crew with sledgehammers against railroad spikes in the 1880s. I was pissed, when the phone rang and a gravely voice from far away started to drill questions into me. “Where’s Atomic Bob?” the voice coughed. “How the hell would I know?” I said and sipped whiskey. “Who the hell is this?” “This is detective Rancid Dung,” he said. “Where’s Bob?” I hung up as if it was another Chinese telemarketing team disturbing my Wa at all hours trying to give me a free trip to Vegas, if I spent my lifesavings on a monthly carpet cleaning contract. Atomic Bob sizzled in a hot prison cell in the Lorain Correctional Institute in Ohio. Convicted of robbing a chain of pet stores of miniature poodles for the love of his life, Bob spent almost a year behind bars, initially. But the sentence was extended. Read the rest of the story on Atomic Bob here on Bikernet.com.

Gettysburg Bike Week Wrapup

Gettysburg Bike Week kicked off Thursday, July 7, 2016, and ran through Sunday, July 10. “Turn-out exceeded expectations, which were high to begin with,” said Kelly Shue, GBW event coordinator, “and the weather was fantastic for virtually the entire week.” Bike builders battled for the Biker Build-Off Championship, with Tom Keefer, Jr., of Franklin Church Choppers taking home top honors with a 74″ Custom Cutdown Flathead. The Cycle Source Ride-In Bike Show was a total spectacle, featuring ten classes, including Best Sportster, Big Twin, Bagger, Chopper, Bobber, Asian Import, Euro Import, Antique, Panhead and Knucklehead with the Best Of Show winner being a classic 1978 Shovelhead Chopper owned by Jack Deagazio. And rally goers had to don sunglasses to protect their eyes from the sparkling onslaught that was the Parade of Chrome. Music acts Quiet Riot, Kix, Mustang Sally and The Marshall Tucker Band took turns headlining the Budweiser Stage, rocking capacity crowds each night of the rally. A-list regional acts jammed during the day, and rally goers were treated to performances by the International Bikini Team, Torch’s Rock & Roll Inferno Fire Performer and, of course, the late night spectacle of the GBW wet T-shirt contest. Other crowd favorites included bike games and burn-out and tattoo contests, which drew a bevy of contestants. And, of course, no rally would be complete without great riding, and Gettysburg has some of the best. Rally goers enjoyed hundreds of miles of the best riding in the east, cruising scenic highways and historic battlegrounds on myriad poker runs and charity rides. It’s always great when doing good works and having a good time can coincide, and that certainly was the case when the Pink Journey of Lights and Stars of Hope charity rides raised over $5,000 for breast cancer awareness and New Hope

Arlen Ness Recognized For Lifetime Achievement Honors

Already a Sturgis Museum Hall of Fame member circa 1992, Arlen Ness was a unanimous choice to receive the first Lifetime Achievement honors. “Arlen truly is the ‘Godfather’ of the custom bike movement,” says Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall Of Fame Executive Director Myrick Robbins. “No one has done more to influence the look of what a custom motorcycle is.” Victory Motorcycles also recognizes Arlen’s achievements and is honored to be part of the induction ceremonies this year. “Victory Motorcycles has worked with Arlen Ness for many years now,” says Rod Krois, General Manager of Victory Motorcycles. “Early on the designers and he helped to create the now iconic Arlen Ness editions of several different models. Arlen has always been the head of his time, and we are proud to be the presenting sponsor at this important event.” Inaugurated this year, The Lifetime Achievement award was established by the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame Board of Directors to honor those who have greatly contributed to the world of motorcycling and have been recognized by many of the leading motorcycle related organizations, their peers and the general riding community. “There is no more recognizable and recognized figure than Arlen in the world of custom motorcycles,” adds Robbins. “Given their close working relationship, it is awesome that Victory Motorcycles has stepped up as the presenting sponsor!” As innovative and influential as Ness has been to the motorcycle industry, the contributions he and his fellow Hamsters club members have made to local charities over the years, including Children’s Care Hospital & School Foundation and LifeScape Children’s Care of Rapid City, are equally important. “The Sturgis Museum’s charter is two-fold, in addition to honoring individuals we want to pay tribute to the heritage of the Sturgis Rally,” Robbins explains. “Arlen and the
