California Lane Splitting Bill Has Passed The State Senate!

AB 51, which recently passed the Senate Transportation Committee 11 to 0, has passed the full Senate, 38 to 0. The full vote happened yesterday, August 1st, 2016. The bill now goes back to the California State Assembly where it originated, for concurrence—meaning that the house of origin must approve changes made to a bill while it was in the second House (from the California Legislature glossary). Remember, AB 51 has been amended since it was introduced last year, but heavy involvement from all involved parties  along the way makes it likely that the bill will be approved, and if not, it’s eligible for a two-house conference committee composed of six legislators, three from each house. If required, the committee meets (in public session) to reconcile differences between the Assembly and Senate versions of the bill. We here at LaneSplittingIsLegal.com (and CityBike Magazine) have been strong supporters of AB 51 since last year, and I’d be surprised if AB 51 required a conference committee. So assuming it achieves concurrence, the next step is a signature from the Governor. Stay tuned here or to the LaneSplittingIsLegal Facebook page for updates.

FEMA Survey On Emissions — Do Your Part

Motorcyclists, please fill out FEMA’s survey on emissions! With growing pressure from city councils on older motorcycles (< Euro 3) and threats or even concrete plans to ban them from cities, or toll them like in Paris, London and several Italian cities, we experience a growing pressure to switch from older motorcycles to new, less fuel consuming and cleaner motorcycles. FEMA, the Federation of European Motorcyclists’ Associations, wants to know how motorcyclists feel about this subject. Please click here and take a few minutes to fill out this survey in the language of your choice. Make your voice heard!

The 2016 Veterans Charity Ride To Sturgis Kicks Off Tomorrow

Indian Motorcycle is a proud founding sponsor of Veterans Charity Ride to Sturgis. Each year, hand-selected wounded and amputee Veterans are chosen to experience the ride and heal with motorcycle therapy. Motorcycle therapy is about getting the Veterans outdoors, riding the open road with the wind in their face, and talking about their experiences while serving in the military so they can experience life and living again. These deserving Veterans are leaving Los Angeles tomorrow and will spend the next nine days riding America’s most beautiful roads, getting to know each other and helping each other heal from the traumas experienced during war. The Veterans also see how much their service means to America by stopping in small towns along the way to meet the grateful people of our nation who they helped protect. The ride culminates by spending the week at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota.

STURGIS PACKING BIKERNET WEEKLY NEWS for July 28, 2016

Hey, Are you packing for Sturgis? It’s that time of the year to make our annual pilgrimage to the badlands. Along the road we finally have time to think without a myriad of distractions. Have you ever watched “Hell on Wheels?” It’s a wild series made in Calgary about building a railroad across the United States, the greed, the corruption and the bad government. It’s incredible. We are living in another Wild West situation and while you run through the desert toward Dead Wood think why? I have a contention. Two things may have a major impact: Government over-regulation and corruption and a shitty economy. If you can’t make a buck and party, and freedom is replaced by thousands of pages of regulation, what the hell are you going to do? Maybe bad things. Here’s the crazy portion of the equation: It could be easily fixed by the government, but will they? This week week we have action from Sturgis, Cycle Source, the HORSE, Harley, Indian, Bonneville, Born Free, Lost Highway, Paughco, JIMS, Weego, and more. Click here to read it all.

Matching the chart-topping Kid Rock with a comparable talent who can offer a full-tilt show that barrels through the Buffalo Chip’s natural amphitheater is a challenge not offered, nor accepted by many. When Grammy-award-winning singer-songwriter Leon Russell suffered a heart attack last week, it left the Sturgis Buffalo Chip with such an opening in its 2016 lineup. As luck would have it, celebrated Runaways lead guitarist and ‘80s glam metal maven Lita Ford was able to accept the challenge and will now open for Kid Rock on Sunday, Aug. 7. More than another pretty face While British-born Ford earned her stripes as a founder of the smoking-hot, all-girl group The Runaways in the 1970s, she has earned considerably more topping the charts with a duet next to Ozzy Osbourne titled “Close Your Eyes Forever” and hits such as “What Do You know About Love,” “Shot of Poison,” and “Larger Than Life.” The complete Wolfman Jack Stage band lineup for the 35th anniversary of The Best Party Anywhere: Friday, Aug. 5 – Willie Nelson, Drake White, Jimmie Bratcher Saturday, Aug. 6 – 3 Doors Down, ONE – The Only Tribute to Metallica, Midnight Mob Sunday, Aug. 7 – Kid Rock, Lita Ford, Tim Montana and the Shrednecks Monday, Aug. 8 – Lynyrd Skynyrd, Elle King, Mothership Tuesday, Aug. 9 – Cheap Trick, Texas Hippie Coalition, The Grizzled Mighty Wednesday, Aug 10 – Five Finger Death Punch, Reverend Horton Heat, Low Volts Thursday, Aug. 11 – Miranda Lambert, RATT, Stolen Rhodes Friday, Aug. 12 – Buckcherry, Pop Evil, Sweet Cyanide Saturday, Aug – “Weird Al” Yankovic, Reformed Whores Those wishing to purchase passes may do so by going to BuffaloChip.com or calling 605-347-9000.   Advertisement
